Wotowotoman:The guy is just disappointing. A complete passenger in this game. Harry Kane will be shaking his head in dismay. |
Ah, ah see Spurs balling.... and shagging the devil himself.... ![]() |
Stealing when they have all the Constitutional potentials to better their lives. Knowledge is indeed everything. Without it democracy is just an English word instead of a means to a better life. They are busy stealing farm produce while those they waste their time electing, aka lions on the loose in the safari are busy helping themselves to their common patrimony. |
It is not lifting the ban. It is facing the reality that you are the smaller dog in th fight. Banking is all about trust. It is the difference between existence and extinction. And until the CBN can gain the kind of trust Nigeria has on the alternate market it will remain a minority player. Few will bank their dollar earnings there. So it can continue to do its round tripping, and other unethical practices that stunt it's credibility. |
When the people are indolent, ignorant, lazy and outright irresponsible, they will be ruled anyhow an bear the dire consequences. I say this and continue to say this. Democracy is a form of PARTICIPATORY GOVERNMENT where the people sit with government to decide ALL MATTERS. And these matters include amongst others. HOW GOVERNMENT IS RUN viz HOW GOVERNMENT RESOURCES ARE SPENT/DEPLOYED. When are we going to elect people who identify with the citizens that elect them. And by so doing are wary, sensitive and careful with the way their resources are used. Everywhere else you hear of citizens complain in outrage when goverment officials waste taxpayers resources and they make them pay dearly at the polls for this. Leaders elsewhere are often voted or removed based solely on their resourcefulness. Not here where the people are contented with grumbling about poverty but remaining silent and invalid to the causatives, a wasteful, inefficient public service and political leadership bereft of any iota of entrepreneurship. Too bad. The people of Osun should send a strong message to the government that this waste is unacceptable and that the governor should reverse course immediately. Poverty does not fall from the sky. It is the accumulation of a little permissible waste here and there that builds the mountain of doom. |
adabaraabdul:No sir. The Judiciary is not above advocacy and citizen pressure. It is done everywhere democracy is practiced. Courts in the west are often picketed during high profile and contentious rulings involving individuals, institutions and government over programs and policy disputes. You only need to constantly watch international news. It happens all the time. I don't know how any of the arms of government can be held to account in office if not by advocacy and civil pressure. May I ask you the mechanism by which the Judiciary is checked in a democratic set up and can you tell me if this mechanism presently works in the case of Nigeria. Remember that a working Judiciary is for the benefit of all citizens no matter ones view on any issue. Because with time everyone will be affected by the quality of their service to the nation. This is a given. Optimism as you say is not a guarantor of good governance. No where is the world do things work by citizens of a country just sitting and hoping. No be una dey talk say, 'power is not given...' |
9jatriot:Well, I think they are trying to 'improve the situation' by seeking justice, and perhaps a new government to rescue them from their situation which is presently dire. And those in power at the moment are not helping their cause by running around like headless chickens. The quality of governance will always and ultimately prove the legitimacy of any government. And on this government, the jury is still out. |
Another proof that these fellows do not know exactly what they are doing. As forumites said on another post, a 'trial and error' government. A grade school student will know that when you triple energy prices the cost of living aka inflation, anywhere in the world will explode. Nigerians will never elect people who are sound in knowledge. Knowledge is what makes the world go round, not hot air or propaganda. We said it from the day of the impromptu announcement at Eagle's Square. That the decision to withdraw subsidies was economically sound. BUT MEASURES SHOULD BE TAKEN IMMEDIATELY TO CONTAIN THE FALLOUT as price rises will naturally start from the transport sector and if not contained or slowed will impact every sector ending with the corrosion of fixed assets and durable goods by which time it will be almost impossible for the economy to recover in this dispensation. And I gave suggestions on HOW to go about it. Today the government is surprised that a flame brought to fuel results in a conflagration. Nigerians, your prosperity, your security, the quality of your lives and your sanity depends on your electoral choices and the diligence.you apply to getting knowledgeable people into power and then driving them towards YOUR expected end. |
robosky02:Waldrum has been the best foreign coach we have had since Clemens. He was on point as far as tournament soccer is concerned. That is a defensively solid team, all down to sound tactics. Australia in the semi's we beat. England in the finals couldn't get a result in regulation. That is quality coaching. Baring our inability to hire quality head honchos he should be given the role of gaffer to the Super Eagles as well Like his honesty. |
mukthar2000:Exactly what I was thinking. N24k of mixed stuff will not amount to much weight in this inflation ridden fly by wire regime.. ![]() |
If it is a big market perhaps they missed each other. May not be a case of theft. But come to think of it. N24,000 worth of foodstuff is not exactly beyond an adult's capacity to personally carry these days. And then why can't these markets operate like their more organized counterparts and have these devices available for personal use. The ShopRite on Airport road allows people some crazy distances with their trolleys. |
Zxcvbnmghtr:Been quietly laughing at the reaction of most folks so far. Appears that resignation to a point of bitter disappointment is at hand. Just a few months in and Nigerians are generally fed up. Few could have anticipated that things could have gotten this bad, even in the camp of the hardiest cynics. And one is not talking about the economy alone. Just the totally poor, mediocre level of governance across board as witnessed so far. Particularly in the light of the hype surrounding the man in question. And this brings me to the bus stop of your post echoing Mrs Tinubu in asking, 'not what government can do for the people, but what the people will do for government..' abi. But is this not a complete goal post shift. Haba fans and fanatics alike of everything Jagaban, APC et al. THIS IS NOT WHAT WAS SUNG JUST A FEW SHORT MONTHS AGO. The song and dance moves back then was that, just bring in the man and everything will be added unto us, as it was in Lagos....world without end (no pun intended). You folks have taken us to the middle of the river and abandoned us saying we should swim the rest of the way.... Kai... ![]() |
stillseth:So the mechanics will raise the cost of their services to make up for sales loss ontop of their own struggles with price rises. It is a vicious cycle of poverty. |
BrokenCondom:The simple reason why he had not charged 3x is that gasoline does not constitute 100 percent of his cost. However inflation is highly economically infectious and invariably other cost items will catch up. So don't rest just yet. When excess water is released in Laminga, Cameroun, Bayelsans can rest but just for a while. It will eventually come and the effects to the degree of preparation. So prepare. Your fare will still rise.... later. When mechanics, spare parts dealers, etc begin to factor in their own stress. |
The good thing is that with the economy tanking the camp of political neutrality grows by the day. In time only fanatical, diehard apologists will remain to defend all these absurdities. Then it will be the quality of governance that mattérs. If the government likes let it continue chasing rats while it's house smokes. |
grandstar:So until a certain minister is appointed nothing can be done to bring the economy out of the perilous dive. Exactly what is a government then. Aren't you worried or concerned that this government by your assertion seems totally unprepared to handle the affairs of this country. Because Nigeria is not in a transition. The same party is in charge so there is a level of continuity at high levels of government. Mr Tinubu knows exactly what was happening in the Buhari regime and was prepared to act swiftly on subsidy which is like a firefighter rushing into a burning building to save the occupants. But then to put out the fire they now need an expert, haba. If Mr. Tinubu needs a Minister to get the basic nuts and bolts of the economy going then who advised him to remove subsidies in the first place. The same person should advise him on how to tackle the inflationary fallout and the cost of living crises. You said previously that Mr. Tinubu is not an economic expert. If so why take a key, key, key, economic decision. Which kind of doctor opens up a patient in theatre without an immediate plan on how to proceed. Me, I am all for quick decision making in ending the structural imbalance subaidies are causing the Nigerian economy but I said it ceaselessly since day 1 that there had to be a plan to tackle inflation before it took hold and spread to engulf the entire economy. Today the patient is dying in theatre with an open wound and the medical director is busy advertising the position of trauma surgeon. Kai . Nigerians abeg make una dey elect people wey get SOLUTIONS. Details, details, details is what matters. Folks of other nations elect leaders based on the facts of what they bring to the table. THEY ARGUE OUT THESE PLANS like a client argues about plans with the architect before he puts his money to build. |
Officialmrt:Hehehehe...the thing is becoming serious abi. As they said. Be careful what you wish for. The reality show has just started. Anyway, elections will always have consequences. Politics is long gone. The time for governance, the real deal is at hand. Better be prepared to hear more. Nigeria is in a real mess. |
Highly over valued. |
Luckysbab:Lucky escape for United. On another day that will have stood. |
Finally. Wolves deserve more from this match. They gave it a go. |
This Cunha will not last in Wolves. The guy is pure class. |
Mount has been a disappointment. |
isahsalee:Nothing is ever clear in Nigeria. A nation that is run on stories but poor on facts and totally bereft of truth. And because of that nothing is ever learnt. |
Kukutenla:Exactly what business of El-Rufai or the the writer is important to you or me as a citizen. We play too much in this country. My interest in stories or incidents around the polity is as it relates to governance. That is what we vote, governance, period. And it is to the quality of governance the office of the citizen is open. The interactions and drama between individuals is inconsequential. And to dwell there is not to be taken seriously. Citizens have 'grabbed their popcorn' long enough to let their country crumble creating a serious threat to our well being. The situation in this country is more than joke pls |
Kukutenla:You folks should stop this childish thought and talk and start acting responsibly if you as a citizen will be taken seriously. |
fergie001:'...Many of us expect that the DETAILS of the initiatives will be clear...' Apt. Details is what distinguishes leadership. It is what defines an entity that is governed. When you listen to leaders of other nations speak, they speak about the facts of the situation that present and then the details of their involvement or counter strategies to contain, prevent, overcome, progress. Here like the fellow says we Nigerians are content with vague statements that sound more like campaign talk than actionable points of governance. Naturally as a result, no one can then measure the performance of any government. And that is why sooner than later electioneering promises are compromised, abandoned and eventually denied....again. The people of this country should wake up promptly and start acting responsibly to drive their government. To order for the kind of country they wish to see. Nowhere on earth are governments left to their own devices. No where democracy works well is leadership not challenged. Autocrycy will never work in the interest of any nation. The poignant example he gave is clear. Mr. Ganduje's appointment despite his baggage favours only the two people involved, Mr. Tinubu and the man in question, practically no one else. Democracy dictates that this should not stand if the people know what they are doing. |
Bovis:What are you talking about.? |
The CBN last had control of the naira in the late 70's. It handed that control over to government since then who promptly appointed the black market as the defacto reserve bank of international settlement. . The CBN is the minority player in the economy of Nigeria. And Nigerians are comfortable with that as seen from the futile attempt by the last CBN governor to take the economy back by coercion. |
The risk elevates with every ridiculous transfer. Who pays 100million for a washed out soccer player in the sunset of his career. Hope they are all looking at the Chinese league and asking why it all went belly up. When the economics no longer makes sense trust that a lot of those contracts will be cancelled leaving those with a few miles left in their legs completely at sea. |
Global warming is real and the destruction is gradually ticking all the boxes of human existence on this planet. Earth is fighting back against a pesky specie called Man. |
One thing is not clear. Divorce is a legalistic term and I cannot see in the write up where you are married. So I can't understand how 'the process is taking a long time'. And if you are not married you are effectively courting. There are no obligations in a relationship not consumated. The issues observed of your partner and how it affects a future marraige are typical products of courtship save for the child you have together (and that is why it is recommended not to have sexual contact during courtship/before marriage). So in summary, move on. The warning signs of future challenges have been presented and you are the wiser for it. The steep price for such tutelage is the child. |
Bellotelli:The black man is feudal in nature. He cannot let go of his traditions so subconsciously mixes or misconcepts democracy with monarchial systems of governance where power, sovereignty and justice lies with the lead. He cannot understand the concept of a balance of power and the interplay of forces that generate development out of it. It is all ignorance. Costly ignorance. |
