Politics › Re: From Spaghetti To Egg – How Buhari Government Changed Nigerians’ Dining Tables by Reference(m): 8:25pm On May 21, 2023
bluefilm:
As far as I am concerned, I still maintain that Nigeria's economic woes is not Buhari's fault.

The entire world economy suffered a severe downturn, which was made worse by the fake COVID 19 SCAMdemic.

There is hardly anywhere in the world today that inflation is not being witnessed.

If people really want to blame Buhari for the high prices being witnessed today, then they should also remember go as far back as 1979 and blame all the subsequent governments we have had since then.
Oga. Citizens of every other country experiencing serious inflation blame their governments and their leaders for poor judgement, from Biden to Sunak to Macron. You only need to watch the news regularly.

The difference here is that this government has never addressed the inflation issue in any way, shape or form. They just continue with mis-governance the way they have been, completely deaf to the cries of the people and blind to the raw, unnerving data coming out of their own institutions of economic statistics.

And the reason is simple. People here do not elect governments or remove them based on such issues. They swallow their sufferings and hang onto their sentiment to the bitter debasing end.

There is simply no way on earth a government that has performed this badly can get re-elected in any developed society.
Politics › Re: NNPC To Supply 300,000 Barrels Of Crude To Dangote Refinery by Reference(m): 12:25pm On May 21, 2023
I will have rather loved to hear that Dangote Refinery 'is purchasing crude oil', rather than the NNPC 'supplying'.....
This little seemingly insignificant wording has serious implications in a country such as Nigeria where accountability is a serious problem.

The relationship between Dangote and the NNPC should be conducted with utmost transparency and in the public interest only because it involves national assets, resources, our collective patrimony and as such there must not be any hint of underhand dealings.

Purchases of crude must be to the barrel and receipts must be paid to the relevant agencies in a timely manner because the end products will be paid for by citizens at the point of consumption.

We don't want to hear about shady transactions and the kinds of unsavoury dealings that have characterized the NNPC for over 50 years no matter what coat they wear these days.

The National Assembly must take the centre stage in checking this in requesting for comprehensive audits of the transactions between both parties to the highest standards possible.

We cannot afford to exit the corruption around the fuel subsidy caper of the last twenty five years and merely change the address of the perpetrators. And yes, the NNPC has been in cahoots.

Cut Arsenal some slack abeg.

A team with a manager of just two full seasons, the youngest squad in the Premiership and a budget that is fractions of the top clubs in Europe was not expected to wrestle the title from a City side with the deepest squad in Europe, arguably the best manager of this generation and an unlimited budget.

This is the reality of modern day sports. Its a business, an enterprise in which the biggest dog in the fight always wins.

This is exactly what we are saying, structure.
How on earth can this happen, except in a banana republic.
How on earth can the CBN credit the account of an individual. How come.

It simply shows the subterfuge going on in the corridors of government. The systematic bypass of institutions one should only witness in a totalitarian regimes like military rule.

Why should the CBN seek or have the account details of any one individual on its payment schedule when it's role is strictly to bank banks and government agencies alone.

Even its own wages and expenses should not be handled this way.

They will say a governor has embezzled 50billion and you begin to wonder what kind of system permits such humongous amounts pass by his fishing rod and reel.

Of course the new government will have to borrow more to satisfy the army of political contractors gnawing at the rottening flesh of a decaying state if not they will turn against them and make the state ungovernable.

There is a wildlife sign in game reserves that says, 'do not feed the bears'. There is a serious reason for that.
Crime › Re: Over 150 CSOs Ask Bawa To Quit Now And Face Probe Panel by Reference(m): 3:24am On May 20, 2023
Nigerians are just wasting their time. Without restructuring Nigeria CAN NEVER get better.

A people that lack the courage to change corrupt, non performing governments time and again like laundering dirty garments are doomed to oppression and serial suffering.

The very people that are permitted to continue in power will use the proceeds of corruption to undermine institutions going forward over the next four years.

No one hates himself and will willingly give up his loot. It is the people that rise to take it away from him by freshening up the helm of affairs or as it is known in saner climes, wiping the slate clean.

Just sorry for this country. I hope those apolitical, reasonable, non fanatical citizens who mistakenly brought back this government at the last elections will wake to their folly and brace for impact as more damaging revelations come to light and be entertained by the tragic comedy of the ruling party"s desperate attempt to cover the mess.
Politics › Re: Kwankwaso And I Sold Gov’t Houses, Ganduje Replies Abba Gida-gida by Reference(m): 2:32pm On May 19, 2023
If the new NNPP governor does not follow the founder of his party's alleged romance with the ruling APC, ignoring pressure to join to form 'a government of national unity' or whatever coverup scheme being concocted he is bound to discover a minefield of evidence, a grave yard of skeletons once he takes office.

His quest to seek redress and bring justice to the state from past misgovernance will then be his own check and balance to ensure he governs with fidelity knowing the past government can always come back with a vengeance should he fail.

That is what makes democracy successful, an interplay of power and the fear of losing it with all the consequences thereof brings sanity to the system.

I'm afraid this country has lost a great opportunity to found its democracy as a tool for development. The gains of 2015 will not be consolidated. And the beginnings of this regime lends credence to that.
Politics › Re: Kwankwaso And I Sold Gov’t Houses, Ganduje Replies Abba Gida-gida by Reference(m): 2:14pm On May 19, 2023
This is the SIMPLE reason why change of government is the only way to get a nascent democracy working.

This is how democracy works everywhere it is successful in the world. That the fear of a change of power bri gs about the kind of accountability that curbs corruption and misgovernance.

And thus is why we said time without number to those not in the camp of political fanaticism or ethno religious mongering, those genuine, objective and selfless citizens of Nigeria that it was absolutely necessary to change government during the past elections.

You can see the effects in Nigeria. Before and during the elections there was a lull in government misadventure in everything from insecurity to corruption.

But now that the coast is clear that the government will succeed itself socio-economic life has gone haywire. Insecurity has worsened, borrowings has reached pandemic proportions and for those of us in Abuja are witnessing a massive heist of last minute contracts awarded wily-nily as parting gifts.

If this government did not return the opposite will have been the case. Continuity in our case means, of all things decaying and the covering of all things cringe worthy.

If the APC had won Kano who will hear about this. So whether action is taken or not by the new government, the most important thing is that the people know and as they suffer the consequences of misgovernance one day they will respond.

So for all those seeking government of national unity, it simply means an invitation to jointly bury skeletons. Those who voted for a better country should do no such thing. For they are the only checks and balances for the coming administration who are busy buying off the Legislature and removing the last meaningful constitutional safeties for the journey 2023-2027.

You talk as if you don't know the kind of President you have been enduring for almost 8 years , the killers are the brethren of the President and he and his cronies aids them , hence their boldness .

What do you expect a Governor who's not in charge of any Military or security outfit to do , someone whose personal police guards can be withdrawn by just a call from Abuja .. you really think he hasn't called and the C in C chose to do nothing with his body language ?

Until State Police is introduced and the Constitution amended to make provision for that , State Governors will continue to be powerless in such circumstances if the President chose to fold his arms ...
We have been talking about this for over two decades, using multiple examples and instances of countries and nations having similar complexities and historically experienced similar challenges as to how they handled these issues as concerning the reformation of institutions, etc.

But it appears that the establishment is hellbent on keeping the present structure for whatever reason and has succeeded in scaremongering the largely unintelligent citizenry into accepting the status quo as the only option.

The question now is, how many hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands will be needlessly sacrificed to suit the palate of the owners of Nigeria.

When Presidents, governors, chairmen, legislative candidates came their way, soliciting their support, pleading for their votes, WHAT DID THEY DEMAND FOR IN RETURN....?

This is one of the very few democracies in the world where their is no correlation whatsoever between elections and the enthronement of leaders and governance and the experience of the average citizen. None whatsoever.

People just vote for voting sake, to boast about their tribesmen in power. Nothing else. No benefit, even life doesn't matter in the consideration of who is empowered and what the person is expected to do to secure their lives and better their destinies.

The police in Nigeria are so unprofessional and feels they are not bound by any law.

I hope Femi Falana takes up all these human rights abuses on Seun Kuti up with the relevant authorities- both local and international.

Not necessarily. Their defensive core, Alaba, Rudiger and Tchauameni can hold fort. Camavinga runs. Modric wont thrive with running so he will depend mainly on killer passes. One-Two passes between Modric-camavinga-Vinicius-is enough to do damage.
But Madrid has never been a defensive team. The have hardly kept clean sheets in the last decade of UCL.

Their strengths have been in the centre of the park and upfront. But since Casemiro left for United the team has relied on wing play because Kroos is no longer able to link effectively with Luca. Then there is Benzema. He is clearly not at his best for now.

As for those younger players, I cannot see them matching City for experience in the middle.
