FireUpNow:I think there is information going on underground that the subsidy has already been removed. What we are hearing this morning in Abuja is that the NNPC has begun to adjust prices. N537. Let us wait for clarity before casting aspersions. The government should act because there is official news and unofficial news. And the owners of these retail outlets are not children but powerful individuals who have their ears to the ground. They act on fact. |
Well folks what we are hearing is that the new official price of pms in Nigeria is N537. The NNPC has said it can no longer bear the burdens of subsidy and their gas stations are beginning this morning to adjust their meters. |
Yourprick:Which fellow Nigerians. Are you informed at all.... Why has your government been blaming Covid-19 and Ukraine war for non performance. Does it not show cause and effect. If the King of Saudi Arabia announces that his country will pump more oil or cut production will it not affect markets. Will you then blame the world. If the CBN governor suddenly announces that old currency will be be extinct by August will the new notes not become suddenly scarce. Is that not the natural reaction. Gasoline is a commodity and a prime commodity for that matter in every economy of the world. And every news concerning it is bound to provoke a reaction. Only juvenile leaders and naive citizens will think otherwise. |
Sammyblacky87:That is democracy for you. I once told you folks that electioneering and victory is like cashing a cheque at a bank. At the counter of victory you have full value of popularity and depending on your circumstance that value will ebb away until you return to the bank, broke and empty. Said this when Mr Buhari was elected in 2015. Can we remember the 'Sai Baba' bedlam then. We just emerged from the bank all happy. But then.... The beauty of democracy is that there are no ultimate winners and losers. It is a perpetual game of, 'the grass is greener in the other party'. Every elected party and leader is bound to become unpopular with time and travel no matter what until his tenure is over and every leader that 'never was' is bound to become increasingly popular till he too goes to the bank of elections. So if you are opposition this is your time, your treasure, your mouth to talk anyhow and if you are ruling, well your only benefit is power. Use it well....to prolong the time you need to return to the bank. |
Hey folks. Reality check. There are no easy solutions to tackle a run down economy. The horse bolted last regime and the one before that and on and on. We can either risk a populist government that will just come to take it's share of the booty or scorn one that will lead it along the straight and narrow. It is our choice. Yes, Mr.Tinubu goofed big tine by making such a 'wild' pronouncement on inauguration showing he is more of a politician that an economist. For mere words of authority affects markets in every clime and on any commodity positively or negatively and if he was not going to remove subsidy that day he said so should not have proclaimed it. So yes, he has a lot to learn and his government is going to be deeply unpopular by policies of necessity and yes he does not have the full backing, a popular mandate of Nigerians and yes the opposition may be a lot better this time. But if Nigeria does not get it right this time. We will have no country left to wail upon. It is that bad. We are presently heading for economic apocalypse. And only you, the ready and informed citizen can save her. |
Good move towards education but will be a huge drain on the state's resources. I hope he has plans for that. A better way to go about this is to incentify part timers and volunteers with requisite competencies and experience to take up the load at various levels then redistribute the manpower deficit. In this way the government can offer smaller wages and will not have to pay pensions when the time is due. |
GeneralPula:Then why doesn't the government just declare its removal. Why the pussy footing. This lack of clarity destabilizes any system. When you make declarations on issues as critical as energy prices you have to be precise and detailed because markets are watching and markets of whatever kind will react one way or the other. This is common sense economics. He made a declaration yesterday. I expected that either he or his spokesmen will have gone further with when and how to ensure this kind of thing does not happen. Uncertainty will cause panic anywhere. Nigerians are economically stressed and it will be disingenuous to blame them for panic. Be seriously informed. Energy prices will account for the bulk of the common's man expenses going forward. Government has to be super serious about it. |
GeneralPula:Too early to start making excuses. Government is the supplier of the product. Government is the regulator of the product. Government wants to make it a free market. So what is all the excuses for. Just flood the market with the product. Was expecting complete deregulation by yesterday. It didn't happen. Who's fault, is it not government. And everyday this government delays the act (not mere talk or threat) it becomes increasingly harder to do it. |
Cajal:Just stop for a moment and imagine that you are related to one of those victims.... And have seen the perpetuators walk free... that is if your imagination can reach that. |
Good first step. |
Congratulations to Me. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 16th Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A lot of 'hope' has been placed on this administration to lead the country away from the terrible experiences of the past near decade. Though more citizens rightly voted against the ruling party in seeking a clean break from the present, it was not enough to change the government so it is expected that the regime of Mr. Tinubu MUST be the change they could not achieve at the polls. Anything less and a perpetuation of the status quo across board in all aspects of governance may spell the end of democracy as a dysfunctional system of government. Mr Tinubu has his work cut out in restoring 'hope' in a workable, viable democratic experience so help him God. This is my prayer as a viable, credible citizen of this country and my job starts tomorrow morning in directing the new government along the paths of good governance. Once again. Congratulations. |
ZKOSOSO:Then why do you vote. If you KNOW that the person you vote for cannot do anything. What then is the purpose of government, if there are NO SOLUTIONS. Oga. Elevate your thinking and begin to demand for those with solutions govern you. |
TheGift:Totally agreed with this. Yes, the pursuit of justice also benefits the course of development beyond the individual and the aggrieved party. But the party has agents in the Legislature. It won many seats and the ideal of reforming laws can start there in earnest. If the Labour Party is organised and cohesive it should have called a summit for all its successful candidates like ages ago and deliberated on how its interests and that of the vast majority of Nigerians are going to be served WITH THE POWER IT PRESENTLY HAS so that its leading candidate can take on the Executive. You can have a quest for justice run concurrently with a quest to reform laws and a quest for good governance. That is what democracy is all about. Everyone doing his bit in his office. But if they all sit down outside the doors of the courts they will lose out on the streets and in the homes where Nigeria lives. I will tell you one good reason the PDP performed much worse than it did in 2019, it did not show the vast majority of long suffering Nigerians in the run up to 2023 that it truly cared about them. Everything they were about was themselves, their ambitions, not the people. The Labour Party should not fall into that trap. It should be about what NIGERIA and Nigerians have lost in not voting Labour rather than what Mr Peter Obi or the Labour party has lost in not getting elected. And it will prove this by stepping into the office of The Opposition without delay and with vision and dexterity, then it will be guaranteed a clean shot at power in the near future. |
A very apt message. The government will be inaugurated tomorrow. The time for politicking is over. The time for governance has come and it is CRITICALLY important that all hands be on deck to establish a successful tenure by all concerned both for and against government. I cannot emphasize this enough. That Nigeria's torrid experience over the past 8 years was caused in great part by next to no political opposition to government. The PDP did absolutely nothing to shape the rule of the Buhari administration. We can see the result. Just look at what the Republicans are doing to the Biden administration in the United States, fighting doggedly every step for the values of their supporters and extracting credible reforms and benefits. Not letting the Democrats to turn the country exclusively into their own image because they know whatever is not fought for can never be delivered or experienced. And if the PDP with its identity crises cannot bring itself to do this job and with the NNPP is cahoots with the ruling party, the Labour party is the defacto opposition grouping and perhaps the hope of good governance in this coming dispensation. The good thing about this is that its leadership is completely anti-establishment and ideologically polarised thus it has a great chance of gaining political traction when the heat of governance begins to bear on the ruling party, when the tough and socially unpopular decisions begin to weigh on the citizens of this country. But it can only make hay if it right there in the grassy field not at home or in the hospital or in the courts as it is. One is not saying the court case(s) are not important. But there is a bigger picture out there that it risks losing sight of as evident by the serial distractions of fifth columnists almost certainly sponsored to lead the party astray as did the PDP throughout all of the outgoing regime. Nigeria badly needs the Labour party to make this coming republic a successful one. |
Just the impetus the engine of competition for leadership brings. The steam that a change of government provides. Which is bound to run out at some stage and will have to be renewed by a threat of loss at the next polls, that is by placing electoral coals of fire under their feet. |
I have not been following this drama series since inception but I hope it is not another 'Rice Pyramid'. Flashy shows then boom.... smoke and mirrors. I am not a believer in the Nigeria aviation industry due to its long and storied history as a conduit for money laundering. But if there are genuine practitioners and businesses out there why can't these be nominated as Nigeria's Flag carrier on a sort of league basis with the best performer over a given period of time getting the nod for a specific period. This will encourage the local carriers to up their game and ensure no capital flight. I cannot see how this is different from the Virgin Atlantic caper and what positiveness it will bring to Nigeria. |
Why does he look like the fellow that abducted and murdered that little girl in Kano last year.... ![]() |
JILF:In the long past children particularly the male child remained in the 'home', that is within the sphere of the family but not for the reasons of inadequacies but of continuity. Then they were expected to continue the vocation, profession and enterprise of the parents ensuring lasting legacies in almost every field of endeavour. But I guess as society began to fragment, the challenges of modern life, the erosion of traditions, values, the change of aspirations including the incursion of advanced education and globalization of the western kind, families find it necessary to fragment in order to thrive and increase the chances of success. So the long and short of the story in my opinion is: Success is the children leaving the coop as soon as they are trained to fly and feed, so failure means they are unprepared. But ultra success is the children never leaving home but becoming upgraded versions to take dreams, aspirations and ventures to the next level. |
bayelsaowei:Well Nigeria has to find the money somewhere with all current revenue going towards debt servicing, the citizens will have to bear the brunt. That I why I said yesterday that opposition parties should sort themselves out and start their jobs as opposition in earnest because things are going to be rough going forward and vast swathes of Nigerians will give them a listening ear. |
Angelfrost:That is because they elect leaders they cannot control. Can you employ a driver you cannot caution. And what will your friends think of you if they see you constantly 'appealing' to your servant to do what is right, what you employed him for. That is how other nationals see us. I am glad the wording of the Bishop's message is 'tasks', not pray or appeal or hope as some of his fans say. Because come Tuesday the 'tasking' will start from well meaning Nigerians. The heat is on. |
Angelfrost:DP. |
abhosts:Hmmm.... na waoh... |
Wow. That schedule is gruelling. Haba. Just three or four per year at your age and state of health is okay. Just skyrocket ticket prices. |
Sonnobax15:Which hard work. What is a man doing with 11 million dollars in cash. There is nothing about the whole episode that is lawful or good for Nigeria. There are many good reasons why limits are placed on transactions and cash in transit. |
Kobojunkie:Well it cuts both ways. Will any woman like to marry the in-laws, the man's 'domineering' family as well..... |
Perhaps the next criteria will be for men and women to marry from families that actually have things doing. Can't imagine anyone who has a job, profession or business that will have the time to snoop around his or her married children consistently. Most will be glad to rid themselves of the children that have bothered them for decades and perhaps inhibited their personal aspirations to certain degrees. Don't marry from indolent families. It rubs off. |
udemzyudex:Abi oh. Wen excavator dey .... ![]() |
BafanaBafana:I just don't get. I don't know what religious beliefs they follow. If there is a prayer that is to be made it is one of guidance and wisdom into making the right decisions. After that it is either thanksgiving for a successful outcome or a prayer of penitence for a rescue from a bad actions and consequent outcomes. You don't buy a good car and pray it works. Just playing games with God. Another reason why despite being highly religious there are scant signs of righteousness through the length and breadth of the country. Large numbers of citizens completely out of touch with reality. |
ReturnMan:Two things . One. They are not sure so they need to pray. 'May' is the wording of appeal, pleading. That God, help us. Two. They are rather sure that they cannot control the situation. Compel the government to prosper them so they need God's intervention to reach out to the king. So how is that possible. How can you be so sure about winning but unsure about governance. This is the detachment of the funny democracy in Nigeria. People that just cannot correlate their actions with their experiences. Sounds to me like a gamble. 'Oh God I have rolled the dice, give me a six'. For who employs a qualified servant and then begins to pray that he should be able to do the work. Funny democracy. Nigerians are not yet ready to do the work of developing this country. |
fuckJones:Why all the fear... it is not a professional examination.... |
siofra:Hmmm.....I think they are wondering, that if all they individually desired and had were cats, goats and chickens, where will you have come from. You owe your very existence to their sacrifice. |
Agadinaagwuofe:There is a lot political opposition can do if done properly. It is just that teal, beneficial politics takes place only once on four years for a few months before elections. But if a 'defacto government in waiting' kind of opposition can be established, almost like in the parliamentary system of government which will take on the ruling party step by step, policy by policy, program by program then it can easily demarket a non performing ruling party. It doesn't take a lot to turn the citizens against a government that is full of faults, inadequacies and corruption of every kind in a legitimate and cerebral way. The problem with the PDP was that they fought internally for 7 and a half years before the elections. The Labour party was formed on the eve of elections and the NNPP is not even looking like a party in opposition. If the PDP or Labour wants to govern Nigeria the time to start working towards that is now. As the ruling party is sworn in they should swear themselves in to oppose. As the ruling party rolls out it's cabinet they too should roll out their shadow cabinet of intellectuals and experts to a guide their alternate ideas. |

. Nothing pain person reach when he/she lose e money via robbery...The funny part is that the so-called armed robbers will later lavish the money on women, drugs and clubbing...Another man proceeds after so much sweat and hardwork?
