SouthSouth1914:Oh deary, deary... he actually said this to Bloomberg.... rather unfortunate. |
Akinsete19:A government that is for all intents and purposes insolvent and is awaiting takeover by whatever foreign creditor blinks first. |
Parachoko:Na so. In the next few weeks you begin to hear about billion naira payments for hazy contracts, purchase of Landcruiser jeeps for the ogas and vouchers going up in flames Vulture government contractors must be licking their lips, glad at the stench of the carcass. Government that cannot successfully manage a single enterprise cannot be the solution to the power sector failure. |
Maconstruct:When hunger hits us hard and there is no more money to borrow to fund wasteful, corrupt subsidies I will see what will happen to 'safety'. Hunger will be a leveller, a sand blaster to our laziness. |
mrvitalis:And how many people make this sir... these billions you talk about.... And I don't mean government billionaires because that is NOT PRODUCTIVITY, but round tripping, i.e collecting government money and giving little back to government in so called taxes. Ask yourself, how many so called billionaires in Nigeria INDEPENDENTLY CREATE WEALTH, particularly wealth that comes in the form of foreign exchange which is the true position of productivity, how many. Are you not aware of the stark report that over 90% of Nigerians have less than N500,000 in their accounts. That is a nation with less than 50% of its citizens even owning a bank account. Mt friend this nation is very, very poor. There is no way in the world that 5% of the population can float the poor on their own in the system we operate even if all their resources are cornered. Be real. We are a homely, extended 'familyesque' society.... yet it has done nothing to touch poverty even with an average man with a job/business indirectly feeding twelve.... absolutely nothing. We need a complete change in orientation, a change in philosophy to get Nigeria out of big trouble. |
mandax:That is why we say restructuring first.... then every other thing shall be added unto us. Restructuring is the one thing that Nigeria needs most, without which it is impossible to develop, impossible to produce good leaders and impossible for any leader to function effectively. I have said it times without number that RESTRUCTURING simply means all the constituents of Nigeria sitting round a table to agree VALUES. This is the seeds of nationhood. For right now no two Nigerians can agree on anything. We cannot agree on what is wrong, what is right, what is progress, what is regression so how do we corporately move in tandem when there is no unism. Restructuring is even more important than elections, more important than democracies, that is why even some authoritarian states are better and more progressive than us and a nation like Singapore could be ruled by one man for 31 years but still make astronomical progress while others despise their own sit tight rulers. It is structure, the structure of a nation, of a society makes it fertile for either development or degradation. And until Nigeria is restructured I will join Nigerians in fooling around with life but will never do the serious but vain business of obtaining a PVC and voting because I simply consider it.... a complete waste of time. |
Iolo:Exactly what I have been saying for years and shouting from the roof tops when we they were flying Mr. Buhari's anti corruption toga like a kite. We told them that corruption was not the problem of Nigeria but STRUCTURE, one not attuned to productivity. Can you remember the infamous Obi's debate with Mr. Osinbajo and the tale of the rats in the shop.... ![]() I bet Mr. VP will be gobsmacked at what has befallen Nigeria after their anti-corruption crusade and the 'wealth' it has brought Nigeria.... ![]() And where will revenue come from if not productivity, the productivity primarily anchored in the roots of industrialization from which all other branches of the economy spring forth. And where will industrialization come from, what will trigger it, yes, big budget infrastructural expenditure and here lies the twin follies of poverty that has crashed our economy today. Our industrialization drive and infrastructural spending failed to meet our biggest wasteful expenditure, we did not invest in petroleum refining insisting on railways instead and after borrowing heavily for that, we gave everything over to the chinese to build robbing us of the industrial trigger required to build a productive economy. This is where intelligent, visionary leadership is critical. Leaders who know INDEED how to create wealth, how to build economies from scratch, how to wean this country from consumerism, rent-seeking and round tripping.... |
mrvitalis:150K tax from a minimum wage of N30,000 ?.... oh Einstein how do you square this circle. I tell you. An uninformed citizenry simply cannot develop its country. Quick question. What comes first, the chicken of a wealthy citizenry or the egg of desirable taxation?? |
Nigerians love their feudalism. You will never hear of such in developed parts of the world. Continuity belongs to the civil service, that is their job. Political leadership on the other hand is all about vision and that is not transferable. If his successor does not have a better vision than his, then I regrettably say it is better for Fayemi to continue. |
Great0ne1:Are you referring to the 'War Dogs' of the world, Great Britain? Boy, there is no country on this planet that the British have not fought, none, absolutely none. Win or lose they are not scared of anyone. From antiquity their ancestors fought the Romans, the Ottomans, fought the French and defeated Napoleon, fought the Portuguese, fought the Spaniards, in modern times fought in India, Indo-China, fought all over Africa, captured half the middle-east, battled in Afghanistan to a stand still, fought China, fought Japan (all before the United States entered the war).... and fought the Almighty America in the bloody war of Independence and it took the help of France for America to prevail. Fought Germany and the Axis powers in World War 1 and 2. Fought with NATO in Kosovo, in Iraq, in Afghanistan Abeg talk about another country, not Britain. They may not have the physical resources like other nations but they punch far above their weight..... and have the best special forces on this planet. Read your history not stories very, very well. Check google: Britain is No. 1 without question having fought about 110 wars in all history and the longest war with France lasting over 1,000 years. |
This Russia-Ukraine war is closing in on a more dangerous phase since its has been revealed that a radiation leakage at the Zaporizhia nuclear plant will trigger Article 5. Now, what are the chances that one drunk Russian soldier will not do exactly that.... wahala rising... |
Circle of Life.... the father is seeing the past while the girl is seeing the future.... ![]() |
I don't like this. NBAis weighty enough to be priority for all the leading candidates. This was how the candidate of the APC ducked and weaved out of public discourse and the rest is history. We need leaders who are willing to listen to hard facts and stern truths as much as they are willing to talk and bamboozle with propaganda.. |
So you can all see that not all southerners are interested in power 'rotating' to the south. There is no consensus in Nigeria about anything. Every passing day I am more convinced that the foundations of the Tower of Babel will be discovered somewhere in Nigeria. |
They will relicate to private universities and the public universities will totally collapse. We have said it countless times, liberalise university education. There is no way a country can offer free college education to all it's citizens particularly a developing country such as ours with galloping population growth. The public needs to share the burden and the Legislature needs to rise to this challenge and set a timeline for government's withdrawal of funding which can be over a period of say ten years so that citizens begin to gradually foot the bill themselves |
Benchilwell:In a proper, enlightened democracy the APC stands little chance in next year's elections. Not because they may have a good candidate or not, but because the message of responsibility must be passed on by the citizens, that failure IN GOVERNMENT cannot be tolerated and there are consequences. If a party cannot lose power no matter how badly it performs in government then there is no incentive for any government to perform. So you can understand where the man is going. He wants his party to continue in government by telling you, you are the reason why you suffer, i.e transmission of guilt. If the APC wins next year it means the change of government in 2015 was just a fluke and not the general progress in our democratic journey a lot of people thought it was. |
No....oh, blame me right.... or as usual, past administration things... So folks, in their campaigns, do not forget to ask them who we should blame before electing any one of them. If they tell you, you will be blamed in future then you know what to do..... |
olas24u:My friend, don't pretend. Every Nigerian from every part of Nigeria behaves exactly the same. We are all racists, bigots and simply cannot take what we dish. |
Why not just rename your armoury 'Shoprite'.... or 'Rent-a-gun llc' |
olas24u:But here Sowore is saying there should be freedom of association. I think he should send the Oba a copy of the Constitution. |
So sorry for him.... but how can a plumber be a bishop.... or am I missing something here. Then reports that he has been seeking sanctuary in a mosque to evade threats. So what has become of his mission, parish, ministry or congregation for that matter....? |
Motirayo2018:Sorry about this but in the tragedy there is a silver lining message. One too familiar with developed nations that we ignorantly fail to embrace, Which is society is only as good as the bottom line. A famous saying: 'A society can be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable' Thus a country like Nigeria where both leaders and citizens judge the quality of life from their personal perspective and care less about the bigger picture society has a way of sharing the pain once the vulnerable notice this dichotomy. Your attempt to improve your life met with the stark, bitter reality that Nigeria is in a mess. I think it is time for us all to collectively agree that we do not have the right structures, the right leaders and the right institutions to effect an egalitarian society that eases the pain all round. However if we choose to continue this way very soon we will not be able to build the houses of our desire, ride the cars of our dreams, eat the foods and drink the wines of our liking and send our kids to schools of our choice.... just because the poor cannot. |
Hawhawhawhaw...... the Premiership is hard.... ![]() |
onuman:But if it goes south it is likely to go to the south-west which has had it for 8 years.... what is the difference. |
Thinkam:Fact, since everyone is voting along tribal and regional lines. Anyone expecting folks from the other regions, tribes or religions to 'be reasonable' and ignore their sentiments while he keeps his own should look in the mirror. We are all responsible for the sorry state of the polity and we all act hypocritically in fueling our own little injustices in our choices. No one will win the little political scrap going on in Nigeria. The PDP says it is the turn of the south whereas Yaradua's truncated term is the only northern representation since 1999. The APC says it is the turn of the south then takes it to the southwest that has enjoyed 8 years in power. The Vice-Presidential candidacies are even worse, that of the APC creating a religious storm while that of the PDP still has not gone to the East. So it is every |
