idupaul:Even if he had no other expenses throughout his career and we know most soldiers for one thing, their excesses. But I will always refrain from speculating where or how a typical Nigerian amounts to the wealth he commands because it is futile. Corruption is so systemic that it could be that, he never stole but could have been advanced the funds by banks, contractors, etc in anticipation or as a reward of future or past patronage. Corruption is so, so complex. There are just no structures in Nigeria that can ever checkmate it. |
facelessangel:No soldier is a card carrying member of any political party. This I will say about Buratai as representing the institution of the Army. His private sympathies on the other hand will have political, tribal and religious colouration as expected. It is this we as a nation must fight against to ensure they are suppressed and that the institutions show and shine through. Let us learn to devalue individuals. |
Thank you Soyinka. Move away from the establishment that has held this country captive since independence. It is for their good but they don't see it. We refuse to crash and burn with this country. Anyone that fails to realise that this country is becoming increasingly ungovernable is the real enemy and grossly unpatriotic. |
Martartins:You are still living in denial as to what Nigeria is and has become . Still chasing after indivuduals. Chase Jonathan for the next 30 years, chase him till he is 90 and near his grave. It won't change anything because the issue is about Nigeria. Better face this today or it will only get worse. 5 years ago it was AK's with 2 magazines, hope you can see 4 and 5 magazine clusters. 5 years ago they will all be in balaclavas, today you see the white of their eyes, 5 years ago the government will ask for disarmament before negotiations, today they negitiate WITH their weapons and left the venue WITH their weapons. What does it say about your country. Dey dia dey deceive yourself. Be blaming while going into the pit. |
SANDOSKI:Spot on. Women just love starchy carbos, avoid cheaper healthy foods and cannot afford the more expensive healthy ones. |
Hahahaha.....now I've heard it all... |
They would have been tied to the transformer proper to receive swift judgement but we know Abuja DISCO will not dance to the tune of the vigilante. |
Progressive01:So are you for corruption fight or not....or when it suits you, or who is being probed. This is why we say 'Corruption in Nigeria is what the other man is doing'. The truth you should know is that if corruption is fought in the real sense of it, this government will not have been in power and perhaps Nigeria will not exist. Corruption is one of the main reasons Nigeria still exists. So your pleading to spare one and continue with other GUARANTEES corruption will continue and thrive. Well done. |
rumaabk:Yeah....that is economic diversity in practice.....we need his Boa Constrictors to strangulate inflation threatening to sink us.....but having a cinema hall on the farm is.....kinda puzzling. Do snakes watch tv too......hmmm.....perhaps auditionimg for another Anaconda sequel. |
igboboy3:Hmmmm......this corruption matter eh....kai....corruotion get fower fa. |
id911:You don't get it......hmmm, so you were trying to 'get it' before. By 2019, everyone will be demystified. Wait till the political battles spread to hitherto sacred grounds. |
tete7000:Once again I have told you people like a gazzilion times. Africans donot believe in institutions. We chase individuals and are glued to tongues. We prefer what men say to who they are and what they do. What did Bill Clinton say again.... But it happens everywhere, from the Presidency to the architypical family, institutions are always sacrificed for individuals. That is why we are where we are. |
Bolustic:Both have their hands chained by the same ol, same ol....abeg, they should just forget about all this ish. These are not the problems Nigeria faces. |
eddyjibs: Na now you know....hmmmm......Nigerians are just too slow. |
ehimeayeni:That is the suffering a junkie will experience when his crack has been devalued to igbo. Hopefully he is on his way to recovery. Even Buhari is screaming. My oh my, that is not leadership. Cameron, Obama are not economists. But they listened, obeyed, implemented (and they paid in short term political capital) but theur countries are both better for it. Buhari should listen to sound reason. His fidgetting is sending discordant signals and this is not good. |
What devaluation is set to do is to force political decisions, decisions the owners of this country wish to avoid. It will force the lazy, lethargic man off his bed to his farm. Crude oil has failed. Instead of looking for a new rock to crawl under and hide, let Buhari restructure Nigeria now and put every part of this country to work. |
alt3r3g0:Mr. Man. Nigeria's primary problem is not what she imports, but what she produces. The US is the biggest market for most things in the world from crude oil to pornography, but they produce almost everything as well and dominate a few like high tech and entertainment. Japan on the other hand is a huge producer but very poor importer of foreign goods so they have this unending economic problem, numerous recessions, stagnant for decades, China has overtàken. You can isolate your economy by being productive. That is why when recession looms in the US, they stimulate CONSUMPTION, not savings like Japan, because they know consumption will lead to production, jobs, etc. What government in Nigeria and most of you are saying is that since we cannot work we should not eat. Is this not madness. Yes, it is right in theory but the result is death from starvation. WHY NOT PUT PEOPLE TO WORK. But how will you do that when you insist on a system where jobs are not created but handed out, wealth is not created but shared by monthly allocation. What is the incentive to work when you know your salary comes through every month guaranteed. Nigeria is not the only country with oil, with states, with a diverse population of dissimilar races and religions. Why don't we want to work. That is the answer. You can NEVER prosper without work and this country's structure can never put Nigerians to work. Stop blaming devaluation. The alternative is death and since 1984 (and before he was in power), Nigeria's economy has been dying. No successive governmental era has been better. Can't you people see it. Haba. |
What is Buhari talking about. Is it not the structure of Nigeria that makes it a mono-economy, the dependencies enshrined by the constitution that cannot allow the economy to fly. Devaluation is the natural response to the failed economic state of the nation brought about by socio-political imbalances. It is like a family that has the father as the sole breadwinner with a sit in wife and grown kids all feeding off his salary. When he gets a pay cut or loses his job it is natural to devalue the living standards of the family or they will go bankrupt. Buhari is always talking about living realistically. It starts with your purse, your currency. You devalue that first so that family members will be able to set their priorities individually. When you begin to cut the meals to twice daily, the cable tv to 3 channels and generator fuel to 1 hour a day, they will all find their way to do productive things. That is devaluation in a nutshell. It does not say stop watching tv, but it makes such decisions more circumspect. So devaluation is not the evil, not the cause, but the fact that in a family, only one is working and that is risky, so while devaluation goes on, get others jobs to do. This is where most governments including the present grinds to a halt, bereft of ideas and trapped in the cage woven by parochial, self serving, ethno-centricism that creates a morbid fear of restructuring. He should just chose between Nigeria and his love for the status-quo and stop blaming a long standing, natural economic response to the crises. |
xynerise: Best players.....you want me to laugh. |
aieromon:Even if you throw in the Queen and Boris Johnson..... |
tayoccu:Hahahaha......by popular appeal |
....three pussycatos....meowwwww. |
youngaz: Chai, sorry for my Baba Wenger..... |
I knew it, I said it and now Italy will go on to lift the trophy. Long overdue. Finals the last time, it is only fair. This generation of Spanish footballers as exemplified by Iniesta have had many a sucess over the years, but...... their time is past and now its confirmed curtains for them. |
Akinkunmi0777:Argentina cannot win it. South American football is currently in poor shape ànd in Russia....you find a land too far from home. |
evy1:No, na White House Down. Maybe oil well dey dia. You know say oil spill clean up no be beans. Mungo Park go dey tink for im grave....why did I discover the Niger....God forgive me. |
Chai, Nigeria.....I think it is clear Buhari is just wasting his time. Anti corruption cannot work in Nigeria. Restructure now. |
bittertruthz:That is the old regimented way of thinking. Understandable but useless. It has not helped Nigeria in any way, just protected croniism and most of the negativity you see in our institutions, not to talk about the financial cost of retiring people before their time like changing your oil before it is due. Your engine loves it but....its just stupid. |
If we don't restructure this country we are heading for the rocks. This is clear. People said he was appointed on merit and not geography but he is now acting on the same sentiments we criticize. Its like trying to square a circle. Okay, if his appointmemt was meant to reposition the force, removing hands more experienced than himself is what, mbok. For heavens sake everyone in every work in life put people more experienced than them in positions of greatest advantage. It is the vestages of colonialism (that I always say we have to rid ourselves off to survive) that ENSURES AND REQUIRES that a leader must be one of greatest all round competencies and that everyone he leads must be 'dumber', less competent than him. I know some may say it will undermine command and control and I will reply this: The police must drop its tag 'force' and embrace intellectualism which has no sentiments and pulls no rank. It is time the police embraces 'specialists' (not in its 'rank and file - military terminology) but in its 'employment'. The police doesn't need to retire them but restructure its operations to accomodate them in areas of 'specialty' where rank has no meaning but competencies and results. There are task forces to be set up, there are sub-organisations to be created to confront a myriad of intractible problems: insurgencies, militancy, cyber crime, plenty. Create new challenges that will remove them from the spot light, from parades and patrols, marching bands and pagentry and from their uniforms into suits and coveralls. Then you can exploit their experiences without hurting regimental sensibilities that to me are just archaic and quite frankly useless. |
He should go and sit down abeg, nonsense economists. I passed a few factories on my way to Abuja yesterday and hitherto quiet were busy with filled trucks at the loading bays. What is important is the real economy, the industries and other job employing, productive concerns in getting them working again. Their products may be more expensive now but things will change because I repeat again, inflation associated with ensuring productivty is far better than inflation resulting from too much currency chasing few or no goods. And you simply cannot discount job losses. |
So what does the writer want, a legislation enforcing the love of Buhari by the peoples of the South. |
Moukafoam:A stereotypical hate filled comment. What we love says a lot about ourselves. |
