razortruth:This is the pressure trigger that can either be diffused or left to blow this country apart. |
.....then Obasanjo came and.... |
Buhari's enemies are behind these leaks, corruption fighting back. It is a matter of time before they get to him personally. It is a pity but we predicted it. Nigeria is simply unworkable. |

2019 will be a long, long, long while to come. |
magzey:Ignorant man. With the ceeding of Bakassi to Cameroun to the East and oil wells to Akwa Ibom to the west Cross-River ceased to be an oil producing state since the time of Yaradua. Their allocation is like every other state now. And nothing of what was promised them by the Obasanjo government was implemented. Bakassi citizens remain largely refugees without a status of their own. No homes, no villages and no towns. |
drss:Everything evil in Nigeria today is traceable to Obasanjo. He and Murtala ruined this country. Like America did after the Iraq war they failed to manage the peace after the civil war and the ousting of Gowon who should not have continued once Biafra surrendered (war time leaders are often terrible peace time managers - Churchill, Truman, Bush). The institutionalisation of nepotism and corruption, the mindless nationalisation of the economy for Southern Africa's fight against apartheid, the politicisation kf the military and this, the ceeding of sovereign territory without legislative aproval in a democracy for personal recognition and gain. Just because he and his bed mates own Nigeria. Evil, vile man. See the carnage he has caused and the troubles this country will endure long after he is dead and returned to dust. |
ademusiwa5:....ok sir, just sit still wherever you are and we will send an ambulance for you... |
The names be like those South African mercenaries wey dey find Chibok girls for Jona government. |
kaorama:How can they. Why should they. So that you people can crash the system. Its a good heads-up but must be managed with wisdom to provide just enough correct information to cut off rumours and speculation but not too much to avoid panic. And be as positive as a Pentencostal Pastor. |
If I was President and knew 90 percent of my earnings come from oil, in this time and age, I will relocate Aso Rock to Warri for a season with all the inconvinience and shame because that is the price Nigeria has to pay. By now I will have jump into bed with all the groups there to ensure 2.5million barrels continue to flow because it is my only hope until I can get other earnings. How many of us have smiled to customers and clients we don't like simply because we want their dough, their patronage. I do personally. But though I am busier than ever thanks to a weak naira, going forward I know things may get dicey in 2 to 3 years time so I am exploring marginal fields, dusting clients files that have been loss making in the past to see what I can do to make them profitable just in case. That is what government should be doing. Our weak naira is an attraction for investment but we will never get it if we are not organised. Nigeria today is seen as a weak, corrupt, divisive entity with confused leadership and lacking ideas. This is bad. Oga Buhari abeg relocate to the South and start sorting out Nigeria from there. |
alfanio:Oga. Just stop it. How much was stolen. 10billion, 20billion, 50billion dollars, name it. Is that the problem of Nigeria. If you put that amount into the economy will it solve our problem. Will it restore subsidy, will it resore foreign investment, will it subsidize the naira. And if you did how long will it last. I continue to repeat this. If your house was burgled and your savings stolen. Is that an excuse for poverty for a working man. The US lost billions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Did it reduce them to nonentities. Your salary savings is stolen and you sit at home saying to your children. "You know we can't eat because we were robbed. Infact if not for the robbery we will be rich..." Haba. Were you rich before and why can't you go to work. Is the robbery the end of Nigeria. What people expect of this government is to WORK!!!. Instead of spending all the time at the police station. Let madam do that. You oga go to work. Repeal the obnoxious laws preventing states, local governments, ordinary people getting access to the tools of wealth. Forward legislation removing solid minerals from exclusive lists so that states can fly, suspending the exclusivity of GENCOS to supply power, implement the extrative industry bills to quell ND restiveness. No, they are busy pursuing rats....nonsense, |
Pappyjandi:Hmmm....after riding on the 'foolish black man' to power you now want him to instantly change to a 'wise white man'. Who is stupid now. Have you heard about the cane that was used to beat the first wife. Na now Nigerians dey unreasonable to you abi. The day the APC was elected I declared that their best days were over because I understand Nigeria her problems and her people. I said you guys will be playing defence till 2019 because once again I know Nigeria, her problems and her people. To you guys it is a shock. You thought the war against corruption, the 1 point agenda is uhuru. I laughed. That even if you stop all stealing and recover all stolen, it doesn't prevent recession because countries with zero corruption experience hardship. That we produce nothing because our V6 engine has only one piston firing. You guys no nothing about what the problems of Nigeria are. You are simply dull. |
How I wish there was really important, good news to be heard about this government especially coming out of the Presidency, something praise worthy, debatable, forward looking, progressive and not stumbling from one incident to another week after week. Why all the troubles everyday, why. Haba. There are some states having little resouces, funds to do much but you they conserve their energy too by keeping quiet, avoiding scandals and only reporting that which is good. The Federal government must borrow a leaf from those. If it knows all these appointmemts won't sit well with the public, it should stop publicising them with all the handover fanfare and just get to work. |
There are plenty of match sticks in a box for a reason but eventually one will ignite the fire. One day one of these flashpoints will be the one that burns the country down. Abeg make una take am easy, both sides. |
Failed parenting. What are you correcting for 22 years, haba. Violence remains the tool of the weak and the ignorant. Start early, raise wisely, live by example and always communicate (an area women oft fall short, that's why they tend to do it more) leave no doubt as to the direction you are leading, love them unconditionally and you will never have to raise your hand against your child. I received the cane as a child but cannot remember exactly what those were for. The things that I do remember today, the things that have moulded my character I still remember and will remain with me till I die is how mamy parents lived. And this is a biblical principle. The Old Testament was full of the rod, God's judgement but until Jesus came did we have a true example of how man should live and it is now easier 'to become'. Worked examples are the best tutor in life. |
Good development. And I hope they will have a hand in running the plant to serve as an incentive to others to follow. The present GENCOS are not doing well. They are unable to surmount even the basic challenges and the government must open up the power generating market to more independent players if it continues this way. |
Many reasons for this but on the whole it is good news and indicative of the fact that deregulation is working and was the right thing to do. It also shows that in future when the refineries are up and running crude consumption wil be preserved. I will speculate that 60% to 70% of that fall is as a result of a collapse in the smuggling market to Cameroun, Niger and Chad and the remaining 10 to 20% to a reduction in economic activities occasioned by the recession and the remaining 10 to 20% as a result of a new found push for more effecient use of the product. This is evident to me personally down to the way I drive and where I will and will not drive to. I find myself using my GPS these days to avoid traffic and watch the time I go to certain places at my own expense. But the greatest benefits will come with time when local refiners are up and running. To claw back that 30% and beyond they will be forced to seek export markets for their products which will earn forex rather that the Nigerian public subsidizing the Camerounian economy via their car owners. And they will be forced to cut local prices and offer other incentives to lure people back to petrol and we wasteful citizens back to our traffic jams and mindless roaming at weekends. I just hooe we have the patience to see the process through so we can reap the benefits just as the price of telecommunications continue to tumble in real terms despite the crumbling economy. |
Dressing to project yourself also matters. If you don't want it to be the centre of attention, hide it, simple. There are tons of clothes that can do that. The problem with the vast majority of the women folk is that they oft believe they can control the consequences of any and all of their actions. This is ridiculous. The vst majority of men dress conservatively not becuase they donot want to appear attractive or are not risk takers but want to be IN CONTROL OF PERCEPTION. We just donot permit people to make assumptions and hope they are in favour of our objectives. Sorry ma'am for the reaction. Think well and far before acting and don't place a glass ceiling over your future. |
hungryboy:You don't harvest leaders overnight. You cannot reap where you did not sow. Leadership like education must be invested in and getting a stream of quality leadership means a long process of natural selection like a fish farmer or poultry farmer reserves his best stock for reproduction time and again until he has super produce. In England they come through institutions like Oxford, in America they pass through Yale, Princeton, Havard...Where do these ones in Nigeria come from.....and talking about the South and East, where is the broodstock to be sourced from when there is hue and cry everytime the prospects of an eastern president is mentioned. They oft speak of poor quality leadership in the south-south but gave the region just five years versus their 35 years or so in power. How can you generate the requisite leadership experience that way. Just as it is in education there has to be a minimum standard set for elective office and affirmative action in favour of regions that are lagging behind, so called politically disadvantages regions, states, tribes in order tto maximise the value of our polity if not it will be the same set of people ruling forever with all too predictable results, stagnancy and candidates who are never prepared and never qualified to rule. |
cekhoe:Hmmm...sounds just like me. Wonder if we are Siamese. .... |
MusaIbrahim1: hmmmm.....nice. |
Hmmm......he looks 23....seriously. |
Revolva:The trains will ultimately make the road network easier to complete and maintain. One of the reasons why infrastructure in the developed world appears to last longer is that it is used lighter because there are alternatives. Abuja central has some of the best roads on earth. The quality is world standard but roads in areas like Wuse are already cracking up just becuase of overuse, huge traffic, huge wear and they have not reached their max lifespan. When you are poor even your clothes appear to wear out twice as fast simply because your wardrobe is bare. Our roads are not able to breathe from the constant pounding day and night. The metro will take a lot of people off the roads and it will not only give the roads time to be cleaned and maintained but more importantly time to be BUILT properly. Not the one or two weeks you often see or the work in rain and flood because it is causing 'go slow'. |
janellemonae:Then they will have to make rules, strict rules, which will make it decent but not popular and not absolutely, ultimately profitable. Just like the airlines and air travel, it may become semi-elitist. These are the interesting facts I often ponder when culture and technology clashes, the results are mixed with either side winning some and losing some battles. |
dont8:Yeah, but how do you define light loads, how will the system be managed. Typically in aviation this is determined at check-in. They will tell you what cannot go in the overhead bin and what goes into the cargo-hold. You will be informed about what will not even be admitted on an aircraft at all. These are the activities that take up huge amounts of time, the haggling. But metro trains donot have the time for that. They are not booked in advance and operate on a first come, first serve basis. The checking comes at the turnstiles by metro officials either before or after ticketing. As a matter of fact some of the turnstiles are built to ensure you cannot gain access with baggage. Will this be implemented here. Then the question of what you can bring on board, a couple of shopping bags from 'game/shoprite' or a dripping carton of fish from 'Oshodi market'. These are socio-cultural questions but are serious enough to affect the operation of the system. You know this country na. If you allow Mama Ronke to bring on board a dripping carton of croaker or you don't allow Abdullahi to bring his smoking kettle of 'shai' and Chinedu a greasy half engine block of Nissan Pathfinder 2003, guess what, the metro will be in court for....marginalization.(pls. bear with the stereotyping)... |
1miccza:These sort of systems operate on the principle of preventive maintenance. Each component has a scheduled date of replacement, a set lifespan and if religiously followed will never have to ground the entire system. Typically what they do is to carry these out at night when the line is closed. That four, five or six hour window is usually enough but this requires a very professional set up and culture, dedicated facilities and infrastructure and an unending supply of parts, machine tools amd technology. It is not easy but you must rise to the challenge if you must enjoy the benefits of a safe, reliable system. I think the first part to getting this culture in a monopoly such as this is to remove the business from every shield of government immunity. That is the train service must be open to legal action. They must be held accountable, liable for the quality of their services as per regularity, safety, economy and improvements. These are the things that killed Nigeria Airways, the things that bedevil the BRT system, no one is accountable beyond the limits of public opinion. So if for instance I have sold my car to invest in transit tickets for the next five years what do I do if the train master decides to open at 9am when he promised 4 am at inception and then is here today, nowhere tomorrow because governor ABC decides to throw a party across the rail tracks. |
dont8:I sincerely hope this is not an all purpose rail network. Everywhere in the world the intra state movement of goods is done by trucking. Goods by rail only pays off when the distances are large because the turn around time for goods trains in loading and offloading is long, far longer than you just getting on and off a train. Goods and passengers do not mix at all. If you travel by air you will discover that 70 percent of the time you spend at the terminal or on the tarmac is spent related to luggage check-in, verification, sorting, loading and offloading. I often travel light so I know this. It will be interesting to see what is permitted on these new trains as it affects our socio-cultural behaviour and socio-economic activities. Will it bear any semblance to the existing BRT system or will it be relaxed to accomodate traders, hawkers, artisans who typically commute to work with their articles of trade which they will ordinarily place in the trunk of a taxi or danfo or on the roof of a keke.....who knows. |
Passy089:Not on an active line if it runs typically for upwards of 18 hours a day. That will be extremely difficult. |
More than long overdue. If it could happen like yesterday I will be glad because the impact on traffic will be monumental and will attract people like me back to that city. Good one. This is one project that should not have any problems whatsoever attracting capital. I wonder why financing has been difficult over the years. If it could be a broad based PPP tending towards full commercialization then it could be floated and secured thus attracting public capital. All those investing millions which total billions in okadas, keke's, taxis, danfo's and other gass guzzling, polluting, road choking vehicles could finance this and still make a decent profit in the long run. But now their business will be threatened when this and other lines eventually get going. |
When professionals jump into politics this is the result. This is exactly what happened to Soyinka last year only for him go into hibernation after seeing his long standing reputation soiled and those he took sides with emerging different from what he thought. It is always risky because you never can know the background to the acts and actions of politicians. At the least, when they say or do things, think it over carefully and let it ferment for a while before taking any serious position. It never ends well. |
