Hmmm, no wonder OBJ quickly introduced GSM. No miss-communication when unleashing EFCC. At least you have half a dozen choices today. ![]() |
In engineering terms if a location is below the ultimate reservoir which is the ocean there is no way any form of drainage can work without mechanical means. Where such locations are close to the sea level the rate of run-off declines even further. To further compound matters flood water from adjoining states particularly Ogun have to negotiate through Lagos canals to reach the Atlantic. If you look at a crossection of the terrain between say Abeokuta and Ikorodu you will observe a sharp decline which tapers off at the end in some cases below sea level. To further compound that, being the most urban state in Nigeria (with over 70% of the surface area developed) there is very little chance of water percolation through the extensive paving statewide. The only options the government has is to immediately truncate urban expansion (very difficult), create buffer zones (mini dams) to hold flood water and open up wetlands (rather than sand-filling the few ones that remain). Lagos cannot afford the unmitigated expansion we have seen over the last twenty years. There are limits and they are very grave. If flooding grinds Lagos to a halt, the entire economy of Nigeria goes with it. Then and only then will we realise its beyond Fashola, ACN or Tinubu. |
If its true its a fantastic development. If she could succeed under a very authoritarian OBJ she definitely will have a bigger impact under a more conciliatory president GEJ and if she could bring back Mansur again then the steady degeneration into unwanted external debts once againcould be stemmed. Yes there are other choices amongst the 140 million good people of this country but the fact is that very, very few are proven at this level. They can be engaged as under secretaries for a latter date. Aganga for economics, Iweala for finances and Mansur for debt - the best combination we can possibly have for our present challenges. |
Hmmm, and to think he may become the VP of this country. Together with his Oga, two very, very angry men. Maybe we should be thanking God more that it did not happen. |
Really funny thread. So how will a man address his female boss, colleague or subordinate compared to his wife ![]() |
Because of the curses rained on the woman after the fall of Adam. Like the man was condemned to sweat out his existence to eat (while women generally don't really have to), the woman was given perhaps a worse deal (Gen 3:16). The responsibility to bear children and while you're not at it you'll get regular pain and all manner of inconveniences. The second part of that curse is even worse. Your desire shall be to men. Meaning that your entire life will be woven around men. So from the age of twenty four months, though they are born remarkably similar the woman has to battle to look different. Pierce the ears - pain. Weave, plait, burn the hair - more pain and as she grows makeup and all manner of supplements till the day she dies whether she is appreciated or not. What will it get a man to shave, certainly not a woman but one word about her looks and it sticks like glue and causes mental havoc. Even when the man says enough of the make up she will never believe but hide under the cover of, "no its not for men, it makes me look nice and feel good". Try it. Pass a woman on the streets who you know not and take a glance, immediately her eyes go down to her body checking for inadequacies. Who is that man that shares similar concerns. None I know. High heels, tights, suffering and sweating. Just to prove you're a woman. Its weird but its hard wired. At work women battle to be better than men or to be approved of them. Even the the feminine liberation movement is targeted against men. Men are always the reference point, the enemies to be brought down. That is the last part of the curse and the battle to rise above it. But no matter how hard women try most of the time they end up back under the rule one way or the other. Its difficult for women sometimes but the origins are far back and well known. Only God can handle that. |
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has disclosed that the reason the water main at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, collapsed last week, causing water taps to run dry at the country’s gateway, is because it was built in 1978 and was not serviced or changed for 33 years. FAAN was reacting to a story published in P.M.NEWS on Friday 10 June which described the agony air travellers went through at the country’s busiest airport on 8 and 9 June after the water main collapsed in the evening of 7 June. FAAN in a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Akin Olukunle, while extending the management’s apologies to Nigerians, explained that a burst in the 200mm water main was traced to fatigue and pressure of the slumping pipe. “The existing copper-cast water main and network were installed in 1978. At over 32 years old, they have outlived their life-cycle. “Being the only vehicle for water transportation to the international terminal and with a delivery rate of 200m3/hr under a pressure of six bars, it would have been impossible to carry out any maintenance/repair without having to shut the pumps. “While the repair/replacement lasted, a number of water tankers were deployed at strategic locations of the terminal to minimise the temporary hardship experienced by passengers and other airport users. The Authority regrets any inconveniences caused by the unfortunate incident,” Olukunle said. He said that the Water Sewage Department has fixed the problem, thereby restoring normalcy to water supply at the terminal. Olukunle said that the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun, who has headed the agency since November 2008, is working on infrastructure development of many of the 21 airports under its management. P.M.NEWS investigations had revealed that since Tuesday 7 June when the central water supply system broke down at Nigeria’s busiest airport, convenience rooms in the facility were filled with human waste and the entire terminal building covered with awful stench. While most passengers avoided the airport’s toilets, those who were pressed by the call of nature, made use of table water and came along with their tissue paper. A female traveller and wife of a Nigerian serving Senator almost collapsed in the toilets when she came face to face with a heap of excreta and assailed by heavy stench. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2011/06/13/lagos-airport-water-main-not-serviced-for-33-years/
Really, then she should ask her 1 million naira a day husband if his wages could be better spent elsewhere. And by the way where was she traveling to. |
violent:I don't know why people like you are not in elected positions. For goodness sake when you have won an election politics is over. You cast the agbada, broom and that funny cap and dorn a three piece suit. Leave politics for economics. People did not vote him to talk but to walk. What right thinking economist will be borrowing for recurrent expenditure for goodness sake. He should strike when the iron is hot and capitalise on his party's hot popularity making swift changes like is happening in Imo. The States' finances are in a mess for exactly this reason he is towing when half of your income goes to servicing debts. Cut costs, cut, cut, cut. Half of those he's paying probably don't go to the offices they claim, a good proportion are certainly ghost workers. He should immediately call all workers under forty and redeploy them to critical sectors of development namely infrastructure provision. Let them take over all the failed road, drainage, power, water projects that have been mismanaged and abandoned and tail off all sundry public works contracts - another area of monumental waste. Like you said immediately privatize all government holdings in business ventures. And all this job creation noise he's making, if it is not private-sector investment led and infrastructure targeted then let him get set to take an IMF loan to pay them. Haba if they sack you from work, you no go sack your houseboy and driver quick quick. You go still dey do big man. May be I misunderstand what being broke is. |

I guess because she's the wife of the president ? Rubbish
You're quite right you know. I'm not criticizing her educational antecedents but honorary degrees are given for significant contributions to a cause the institution recognizes as noble. In this light very few politicians fit this bill and the first family are not significantly tested to meet this criteria. Mamman Shata's case is different. He has a lifetime of achievement in his field of enterprise and was hugely successful and inspirational to many. Not her fault. It is the awarding institution that is threatening its values and undermining past and future titlists on the altar of political and financial expediency. These institutions need funding no doubt but the quality (they are inadvertently undermining) the command is the best ticket to getting what they need. |
Hmm, what nostalgia. Really its good to be good. ![]() |
Ujujoan:Don't want to ruffle a few feathers but when you take note of the sectors most in opposition I want to bet that a good proportion are probably involved in this money laundering business within and across borders. I will not mention businesses. |
yemic:The Senate. |

From the replies to this strange thread there is yet hope for this country. Towards the poster what can I say. |
kalokalo:Thank you for sound reasoning. I don't know exactly what Nigerians want. To boost their economy or that of China. China did not get to where it is by imports. America is where it is today by buying much more than it makes. When did Lafarge take over from Wapco. When did Dangote take over BCC and when did Obajana come on stream. When did Orascom complete Unicem in Calabar. All these plants came on line in the last ten to twelve years. Unicem train two is well underway, Dangote is expanding. Same thing for Lafarge. Guys you have to hand it to these fellows. It is not easy for private investors to build these multi-billion naira plants in such a short period of time with very little help from the economy, from banks and from the capital market. We should make up our minds. If we want to industrialize we must bite the bullet and if choose to be an importer nation we should just go ahead. But in a weak and unorganized economy such as ours you cannot effectively have both. If those importers have the resources to flood the market with a million tonnes a year what stops them from investing in manufacturing They won't because they are lazy and risk averse. Such are our champions. Cash and carry. What is the difference between them and those who crush our local refining so they can import petroleum products. Or is crude oil more abundant than limestone. Very soon this group of importers will form their own cartel. Give them a metre and they'd take a mile and when our foreign currency reserves head south there should be no reason to complain whatsoever. Dangote is probably price gouging but what you do here is to bring the weight of the law against him and not throw the baby out with the bath water. No doubt we have a massive housing gap brought about by our run away population (which no one cares to address). Our personal development and individual aspirations are way ahead of of our collective abilities. We simply cannot house ourselves. That is the reason we want cheap this, cheap that. But what is most upsetting is that we cannot even have the patience to work towards having these things. We want everything now and are willing to lie down with whoever can provide them. My mum used to say this when we were the lazy kids we were. Whatever you cannot do for yourself you will pay dearly for someone else to do it for you. Imports may seem cheap today. Tomorrow when China sends the prices up tell me who you will fall back on. Diesel is sky high, kerosine is on the moon and $ 4.00 PMS is not far away. Let us keep on importing. |
alex101:I mean can you imagine all the rubbish the Oyedeji is saying. Is it MKO that will rise out of the grave to reactivate those businesses. They are waiting for the nation to immortalize the man yet they who are perhaps the closest to him cannot even raise a finger to prevent the total destruction of his businesses. They should wait for his ghost to write cheques and obtain loans for them. . Just give some interested, hard working and half decent fellow a fraction of those assets he mentioned and you will be looking at a millionaire in just a season. For his information 1,000 acres of bare farm land is what some are looking and even killing for to cultivate. Does it take a loan to put a hoe into the ground. They are waiting for MKO. Lazy fellows. That is what you get when your wealth is not built right. It can never endure. Wealth built by vanity is quickly eroded. He never had workers but pillagers around him and not managers but parasites and boot-lickers who merely saw the ease with which he made his wealth and never learnt hard work. How can you have all these businesses and cannot transmit your values to t least one, one, one human being around you. Tell me forumites, how does a man become a billionaire without any positive, transmittable impact to anyone around him. How can one possible rise to such heights all alone. This country sef. |
snowdrops:But he should be at the peak of his powers after all he's just 28 ![]() |
Yak's not too far behind in the abs indices of prosperity and i bet Kanu as well in the future but you must hand it to this gov'nor appearing just about everywhere and really enjoying himself. I tell you leadership isn't hell on earth as some others may have you believe. |
When has it become an offense to dislodge protesters with tear gas and arrest unruly rioters. A mountain out of a mole hill this one. |
J12:The woman may or not be in a cage for all we know. Perhaps (and I can only speculate) they have shared certain aspirations and dreams and suddenly something comes out of the blues so the reaction may be one of "but we have agreed on this so why this now." or perhaps they don't know anything about each other and the only thing that holds them together is money, earnings, how much they bring to the table. One thing is certain before they decide to bring any child into their "yet to be settled lives" they'd better sit down and consider carefully the implications of adding yet another problem to our over-strained social fabric. |
I feel there is a predisposing view of the meaning of control here. I think we should be graduate the term. I certainly don't want to be in anything without a control. Haba. |
And Adam ate the apple and at once realised he was naked and hid himself. The fact that you have seen his unclothedness. No. Tons on people are happily married to partners of differing social standards and have no problem with it. It appears she has a question she cannot handle. Its better she doesn't try it. She or her pressure piling friends have a complex that will be difficult if not impossible to surmount. |
Most certainly. Always honored to be called up to the national team and always proud to wear the green white green. |
Seun:No doubt Seun but the fact it poses a question means they are not communicating, have not planned forward and are weighing two things that are not comparable. Most of us want everything. Wisdom is knowing limits and the fortitude to accepting what you can be and what you never will. Hollywood for instance is filled with men and women so high on their careers everything comes second and we are all too familiar with the results. Nothing bad if it is a corporate choice. The fact that hubby or wife has issues with your important choices means your courtship or lack of it has been a waste of time. That union has no future beyond pretense, cheating and stress. Love is all about sacrifice and marriage is an extension of it. For a newly wedded couple to have issues with this basic and fundamental question is really puzzling. What then are you wedded for. The man is to complement the woman and the woman the man. This couple is battling to stay apart. |
Inability to communicate. Lack of planning and consideration. Career first. All symptomatic of a failed humanity. That's the beginning pf the end of that marriage. |
Haba, we know where indiscipline has brought us. We've known how many coaches and managers it has brought down. Indiscipline has been one of the two reasons for the gap in achievement between our senior and junior teams. We are very skilled but highly in-disciplined and at times grossly unprofessional. From the days of the Eagles mafioso till now. Can't report to camp on time, can't train, can't take matches seriously. What has Siasia injected into the team this short few months that has given us a ray of hope, nothing but a bit of stick and yet we don't want it. I don't expect everyone will tow the line, after all rules are made to be broken. We don't expect everyone to be disciplined and so we don't expect Siasia to succeed. But if he says he needs discipline to succeed just give it to him period. When Osaze's time is done and he hangs his boots for the suit and gum he can tolerate any kind of acts and antics in his team. But he should remember what goes around comes around. Just ask Keshi in the Adebayor debacle. |
Is this in support of the saudi ban on female driving @ the almajiri who started the thread, as well as his sidekicks. In nigeria, you can buy a driving license even if you never saw a car before in your life talkless drive one, so how is bad driving an exclusively female problem.
Its not a bad driving thing, not a right of way thing either but the simple in and out of traffic thing - switching lanes, turning into traffic, etc you know, where your sidelights are blinking, or you flash your headlamps, honk or wave your hand. That's when they just stare dead pan ahead and pretend you don't exist. You can be sure if its a woman you won't get through. Ive noticed it very many times not just me but to other male drivers and I don't bother asking. I would understand if its a danfo but it cuts across all cars. Really don't know why. |
Ha, that's exactly what I was telling someone. My purple tongue has nothing to do with Ribena. I just love watching Avatar over and over again. Tell me what's happening. ![]() |
We continue to fuel the fire that consumes us. Pity. |
The way this political pendulum is swinging so wildly these days it can make one dizzy. Do people want to get closer or further away from the centre, yes or no. I don't get it. ![]() |
asorocker:That is the transient nature of power and that's why I'm not too concerned. They may be the Gangs of NewYork today but the grave is their ultimate destination. The nation remains bigger than them all and it will endure beyond them. |
Means nothing. |
