Hello everyone,
I need an advice on an F1 visa issue and will really appreciate if I can get a way forward out of this. I know this house is full of gurus and highly blessed. Kindly help a sister in a jam.
My story goes thus:
Sometimes in 2016, my pregnant sister and her husband with their son applied for a US tourist visa and were granted. During the interview, the consular asked whether my sister will visit the doctor and she replied negative. My sister spent 5 months in the US and returned with the child. Their visa expired and the husband is the busy type and has no time for the renewal. Fast forward to this year, the husband was granted admission for a graduate study in the USA and was even offered a little scholarship by the school. The husband applied for F1 visa and was refused. During the interview, the consular stated that the husband travelled with his wife without their child to the USA two years ago and gave birth there after having misinformed the then consular that they will not visit the doctor. She asked where the wife is and the husband answered that she is at home with her business. She also asked how much was paid and the husband answered. The consular also asked for the receipt but the husband answered that when the wife is coming to renew her visa, she will bring it along. My sister's husband doesn't want to miss this scholarship so he wants to apply again before the school resumes this month. What can he do to be granted the visa? Should he apply with his family again for F1 and F2 visa? Any suggestions from the gurus and VO's in the house?will really cherish one right now. Thanks.
Your wife was asked specifically if she was going to have a baby and she answered no. The fact that she went ahead is misrepresentation. The VO set a trap for you. Check on the birthing thread for cases of women in this same situation. You will see that it is not easily surmountable with some women being denied several times even after showing full payment. Even if you present your receipts the fact is you cannot be trusted to abide by the terms of the visa category given. My advice: you (the student) can apply again in time for the school program and try your luck. Your wife may find it difficult to renew, even if all bills were paid

Hello everyone. I have an interview scheduled this august. I'm a web developer and I currently work remotely for a registered digital agency in the US. The company needs my presence over there because I am the lead developer and the main purpose of me going there is because we are holding bootcamps, workshops and training to teach people about programming in which I am the one to anchor the program. I will also be training interns after the bootcamps and workshops. My length of stay is 1 year which is the total coverage of how long I will be there. Salary is huge. My boss is the one sponsoring the trip. What are my chances and the questions likely to be asked?

Hey guys.

I was able to get another appointment for Wednesday after being denied as the quoted post shows..

Any pointers on how to make this a success this time?

Although I'm not married I have a 10 yr old daughter that has a US visa (although expired) and I'm taking photocopies of her birth certificate, passport data page and visa to show my ties home.. I reckon this could help..
How have your own personal circumstances changed since your last refusal? That’s what you will need prove and what the VO will assess. Your travel itinerary does not include your daughter so there’s no need to bring her up. The best you can do is try to convince the VO that your conference/induction is important to your career and that your presence is vital

Me: Good morning

Vo: Pass me your passport
Me: here pls

Vo: Why do you want to go to Philadelphia?
Me: for shopping/ tourism

Vo: how long?
Me: 12days

Vo: Have you travelled before:
Me: Yes, to Dubai

Vo: you are married
Me: yes

Vo: any children?
Me: no

Vo: are pregnant
Me: yes.

Vo: I'm sorry, you're not eligible for a visa. Handed the white paper
Me: why?

Vo: she said the reason is stated inside the white paper.

My people, Na so I waka oh.
You needed to prove your intention was to visit and only visit. You’re obviously pregnant and you say you want to visit for 12 days. The VO will assume you plan to have your child there without demonstrating that you are capable of paying your bills. He/she would see it as misrepresentation. Next time, prepare well.

You see why it’s almost impossible to take the average Nigerian at face value anymore? It’s as though their default setting is to be dishonest. See this ‘tear jerking’ tale for instance. That’s why people (VOs, Twoods, etc) adopt a guilty until proven otherwise stance. And you can’t blame them.

I honestly don’t know why a lot of People here think they can’t give birth in the USA with a visiting visa. It is very legal and ok to give birth in the USA with a visiting visa without even sending any change of intent or applying for medical visa or whatever. Most Nigerians are usually given a b1/b2 visa combined . B1 visa is for business while b2 is for tourism I.e vacation . What we don’t know is that medical treatment such as child birth etc is also allowed under the b2 visiting visa. I got tired of reading about people stressing to write change of intent letter, being adviced to go for vacation first with the visa before using it for child birth for fear of future refusal when they want to renew. Nobody will deny renewing your visa if you give birth in the USA with a visiting visa. My sister gave birth with her visiting visa, paid all her bills in full, didn’t send any change of intent whatever and mind you, at the time she did the interview she wasn’t pregnant and said it was for vacation. She got pregnant, traveled n had her baby and applied for a renewal and her visa was renewed. She has been doing drop box since then . She just got her visa renewed again this April and would be traveling to us to have her baby in October. Google it or go on the USA consular page and you would see that our visiting visa or tourist visa as some people will call it permits us to have medical treatment in the USA without applying for medical visa or change of intent . Infact medical visa which some people say they got is also under a b2 visa and also includes tourism as well. Pls kindly find attachment . I hope this helps people who are terribly confused about traveling with their visiting visa’s to give birth in the USA. Btw the only time I feel one might have issues is if you lied at your interview that you aren’t pregnant, it could catch up with you during renewal. Honesty pays .
You clearly haven’t been reading the thread(s). If you did you would see that people who renewed successfully once have been called in for interview and in some cases, denied. That your sister renewed doesn’t mean everybody else will. The point is to cover all bases and not to assume.

Hello House and fellow mommies,

I am a newbie on this section..1st rule in this section is no spoon feeding. You have enough time to research. Go back to part one and take notes. Contact hospitals you are interested in and get updated quotes. I can see people are very helpful here in answering questions.I am thinking of delivery in the US though EDD is still more than 4 months away. However,I have a few questions and i will appreciate the experienced mommies and daddies in the house to help:

1.Apart from Oakbend TX which I got to know on this forum, is there any cheaper hospital to give birth in the US? We do not have any relative in US and DH's income is not so buoyant. If you aren’t buoyant, think very well about embarking on this journey. It is not cheap. Plan and budget for everything and include contingencies (read the thread for examples of unforseen bills)
2.At what time should one start the visa application process? Early enough in the event you need to reapply. Peak period (summer) is fast approaching and appointment dates are getting scarce
3.How many month account statement is required at the embassy. Enough to show that your income is steady and that you can afford childbirth and no bulk suspicious transfers
4.I have read and learnt on this forum but any other information or advise will be appreciated.

Thanks everyone, God bless you all.

Hello Gurus in the house, I must thank you all for all the good work...this thread has helped thousands! Thanks again.
Please I need advice to resolve issues surrounding below experience:
*Please bear with me I'm not too sure if this is the right thread to post this*
My wife on a B1/B2 visa had her baby in the US in December 2017 and we made sure to clear all the medical bills (zero balance). Before she traveled, we wrote the US embassy in ABJ to notify them of our intent of which they responded that it was OK to have a baby on that class of visa as long as we can cover the bills.
Fast forward, just last week, I landed Heathrow to connect a flight to JFK New York. At the airline desk, a gentleman, probably an airport official or immigration officer (not sure who he was working for) approached me and asked directly "Your wife just had a baby not too long ago in the US, YES or NO?" I answered YES that I was infact on my way to the US to bring them back...that I was only staying for 9days (showed him my return ticket). He asked me to wait and got on the phone then came back to me after ~10mins and told me unfortunately I would not be allowed to board the aircraft to JFK, that that's the directive from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and that my VISA has been cancelled sad. When I asked why? He said I should direct my question to the US embassy in my country.
So my brothers & sisters, that is how I was put on the next flight back to Lagos (had to wait for 4hours).
I arrived Nigeria the next day and called the ABJ embassy, I was redirected to Lagos embassy...the lady that I spoke with apologized for any inconveniences caused and asked me to send a mail to LagosNIV and copy the ABJ address too stating what actually happened.
Lagos responded with a directive to contact DHS TRIP, that they alone can resolve this issue.
I have filled out a complaint form on the website and have been waiting for their response.
Is there any other thing thing I can do?
What does this really mean? cos up till now e still be like Nigerian film to me.

Gurus in the house, abeg over to you.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello everyone here!
I have been reading and getting info from many threads here on Nairaland, but I have just decided to sign up today to ask my urgent questions as I have been reading this thread right from Part 1.
I plead the gurus in the house reply answers to my questions.
My friend in Washington DC (an American citizen) who currently works at the USA Library of Congress sent me an invitation letter four days ago to come to the USA for a book research. In the invitation letter he stated that he will be covering the housing, feeding and flight tickets. I am an author and I am going to the US to research about a new book I am currently writing. I have my valid passport and will be going to GTbank later next week to pay the visa fee and proceed with filling of the DS-160 form and booking of the interview. My intended time of departing Nigeria is March. I am based in Abuja. My publisher here in Nigeria has just written a reference letter on my behalf letting the embassy know that I will come back to Nigeria to sign the book publishing contract after my research. I don't have landed properties in Nigeria, and I am single. Please what're my chances of getting my visa?
Assess your ties objectively. Think like a VO. Why do you need to fly all the way for research when there’s Google. You have no ties and you aren’t sponsoring your trip. Publishing contracts can be signed and couriered so there’s no guarantee you’ll return. If you want to waste your 64k, try your luck. But this ‘packaging’ is obvious and won’t fly

Hello everybody.
First timer here. My wife was able to convince me that we should have our baby in the US. it's gonna cost about $9,000 for normal delivery and about an average of $11,000 for CS. This estimate is for Dr. Ezekiel affiliated with Oak bend (this is the cheapest), and it includes baby documentation fee and accommodation fee. This does not include the flight cost which is still going to be around $2,500 (single) or $4,000 (If I'd be going with her). In total, we will spend over $15,000
Your costs are rather high. Maybe do more research

Goodmorning.
Please has anyone here ever carried cake to the US?

Someone ‘needs’ undecided Red velvet cake and wants it from a particular place in Lagos.

If you or someone you know has transported this successfully, kindly advise. Thank you so much.
Flying with cakes can be tricky. It’s easier to travel with cakes to Europe because it’s a 6hr journey. The simplest way to fly to the US with cake will be to freeze it and pack in your checked in baggage. Considering it is red velvet, the taste would most likely not be the same after freezing but it is still worth a try.
Another way would be to take it onboard fresh as or in your hand luggage but that can be quite unwieldy if it is in a box or be at the risk of melting into your other items during the 12hr flight.

My recommendation: Try option one (properly sealed in ziploc bags)

Hmmm...I kinda knew that once so many people start jumping on this bandwagon of giving birth in the US due to spreading the news about it around and how easy the medical US visa was easy to get it was bound to be abused.

You'll be surprised of how some women have abused the visa that after giving birth in the US runaway from paying the bills with having the intentions of not needing to return back to the US but at least they have gotten what they wanted and that is just to have at least one of their kids a US citizen. Some even result into just staying permanently in the US with no need to return back to Nigeria.
And they’ll claim it’s God’s favour

Way forward
If he lied: come clean and hope for the best
If he was honest, present proof of honesty.

You can decide to apply alone. It still boils down to the vo to evaluate your ties and weigh your application vis a vis whatever record your family/husband created
An entire family is going to the US for a church program for three whole months, husband’s work details are admittedly sketchy, wife plans to birth and her office is going to pay for her bills instead of giving her a car...

Boss Seyewest, to answer that question, from the beginning I said I almost ran late for my interview,I was driving but was caught up in Masha area of Surulere till around 6:30AM,if you see the traffic that morning, no be here ooo when I navigated past stadium I saw another traffic on the bridge heading towards CMS,No way!! I had to stop by a car sales shop along the road, begged the security man with #500 to allow me park there and flagged down an Okada man to take me to V.I, who seeing the desperation in me, charged me #3000 saying his route is only on the mainland, that Island is a risk for him bla bla bla...Lagos na wah...time was 6:48AM,finally we settled for #2500 and it was a good decision because after beating that Costain-CMS traffic, the CMS-bonny camp route would have been another hurdle if not that I took a bike, so all these expenses made me have just #800 on me. N.B I didn't even leave home with my wallet or mobile phone being that all these would not be allowed in and I don't want to pay to store it when I get there so I just grabbed the cash left from Sunday night's groove and shoved it into my pocket. The interview was supposed to be a go-in get out thingy so there was no need for me to pack heavy.
And for the trek home part, its just me being sarcastic, I have people on the Island I could just walk in on and get whatever I need to get me home.
I just want to overcome this conquest and pass this test that I recently failed. As for the transcript, make I remember how it went and pen it down.
Thanks for your reply bro.
You remembered every minute detail of the day but not your encounter with the VO?

So in the spirit of giving back...
Scheduled time for Emirates flight...5:50pm
Time i arrived at MMIA...3:30pm (i dont know the devil that put one kain traffic jam on the road)
Date of flight...sept. 12
Number of travellers...myself and active toddler
Flew at 34 weeks and 2days
Was asked for fit to fly before checkin...showed the emirates lady who then made a copy for me. Had one check in box. Picked up my hotel voucher as i had a 22hr layover in dubai. Got on the plane and was asked for my fit to fly which i gave them. I looked a lot bigger than 34 weeks though.
The flight was smooth as expected with goodies for my kid. Arrived dubai at 4am ish. Asked where to get the hotel shuttle and was directed. Got to the hotel and checked in. It was time for breakfast by then so i simply showed my boarding pass and went to eat at the restaurant. Went up to my room took a nice long bath and rested with my toddler. Had lunch and dinner same way and then checked out by 11pm. Hotel shuttle dropped us at the airport. Boarded my flight and landed Orlando international on Thursday 14th at 10am. It wasnt easy considering my big tummy but i survived.lol.
POE Experience
I was among the first to alight the plane so i was like the 4th in line. Ours was tge only flight. Only one other Nigerian family on the flight. I noticed the CBP officers were all smiles and joking with others...my turn
Me: good morning (with smiles)and hands over over passport to him
Him :good morning(with a smile)
Him : what brings you to the US today
Me: am here to have my baby
Him: youre pregnant? (Seems the smile reduced a bit or maybe i imagined it)
Me: yes i am
Him: how long will you be here for?
Me:10weeks
Him: how much to do you have on you?
Me: 960 dollars and the rest on my card (it was after i spoke i realised i didnt say how much was on the card)
Him:do you have any food items ( asking while looing at my landing card)
Me: yes. Just Dried fish
Him: place your 4 fingers and your thumb.( I do that) follow me and i'll take you to whom you will speak with. ( thats secondary inspection )
I get there and there's just one white man there. I sit and my toddler is busy talking and playing for Africa. The officer there is a woman
Woman:how long are you here for?
Me: 10 weeks ( am still sitting where i am as i answer) then i later go close to her
Her: when are you due
Me: october xx
Her: do you have a doctor?
Me: yes
Her: any documents to back it up?
Me : yes . I askes if she wants to see it and she responds in the affirmative. I hand it to her then go back to sit.
(Envelope contents: fit to fly, letter from doctor, cost estimate from hospital, budget sheet, BoA account statement, hospital registration, email correspondence with doctors office)
I sit for some minutes then she calls me to follow her. Says i should pick my bag and head to agric that my passport will be there and i can head out from there. Did that. Bag passed thru scanner...no need to open and inspect. Called my host and went home.
...so now we have a sample of orlando

I've been following this debate about sending a letter of intent. My question is, why do people assume the hurdle to qualify for a visit visa is any different from that for the purpose of childbirth? If one could afford to pay for childbirth prior to the application, doesn't that put one in a better standing at the interview?
