The south-south is a geo-political zone and not just a geographical area. The zones were carved out considering not only the geographical location, but also the political interest of the people involved. The SS was carved out of the western/midwest zone and the Eastern zone and the main consideration was to group southern minority tribes into a separate zone where they wouldn't be dominated by the 2 major tribes of the western and eastern block (Yorubas and Igbos). Ive never seen anyone from the SS or the North central zone complain of the fact that they were carved into separate unique zones.

The term SS or Niger delta, what's the difference? And how does the term 'Niger delta' make it feel better?... besides, these are geo-political zones, not just 'political' zones; so would you have prefered the 6 zones in the country to be have NW, NE, NC, SW, SE and Niger Delta? Does it really make any sense?
I guess you are reading too much meaning into what I said.
There is absolutely no complaint over creating unique zones for minority tribes.

You correctly said it is a geo-political zone and in the context of geography, South-South is a meaningless name.
You asked if there is a difference between South-South and Niger Delta? I'm sure the difference is self explanatory.
Again, no minority tribe in the south is complaining that a separate zone was created for them. My comment is not a political one but is about the meaningless name as it does not represent any geo-location

Where are you from?... I've never heard a person from the SS make this statement before.
Same way North-North does not make any meaning is what South-South is. While the name does not have any direct bearing on capacity, Niger Delta would have made more meaning as a geo-political zone than that nonsensical South-South coinage.

There should be no South-South because there is none

Seunfretty:
It's just a reflection of wat Italian football as become...and how much football as evolved...The Italian teams need to start tweaking there playing philosophy and try playing more in the front foot...tl

Roma got a goal against Sevilla and went to park the bus ..Sevilla equalized and the still parked the bus...they had to wait and hope for a penalty ...something that happens to be 50/50.. unfortunately they weren't lucky

Inter was better against city ...taught hard and made life difficult but even if they had equalized in the second half they would have parked the bus and hoped to play on counter and then hope to drag the game to penalties...another gamble style of game...just like Roma

There are different ways to success in footal...but the rather pragmatic side is something not really working anymore...and that's wat the Italian teams kind of favor in style ..they are the most user of the 3-5-2 formation in their league a formation which is more rigid and defensive than offensive...

The only team that really plays possession based and attacking football is Napoli ( and partly lazio) and it's no surprise Napoli cruised to the league title

The quality in the league is also a set back even the home grown players ...Italy can hardly bost of fast ..skillful..exciting attackers...but year in year out the produce rugged defenders ..most which are not even really good in possession
@bold

Exactly what led to Roma losing that match, I was livid.
How can you be on the front foot, play so well, score a goal then go back to park the bus. Roma could have even gotten another goal if they had kept the attacking momentum especially in the first half.
Mourinho screwed that match

Exactly what Jonathan said and the propaganda machine from a section of the country picked it up, oiled it to deceive the ever willing Nigerians that love to be deceived.

Jonathan was of the opinion that, calling the theft of public funds as just "corruption" which every learned person know it to be is not good enough in our Nigerian experience. And that whoever is proven to have stolen from government should be called a "THIEF" instead since that will resonate more with the people.

For example,

ex-governor Akp**** is a thief
ex-governor Akp**** is corrupt

The first example clearly situates the Nigeria understanding of how severe the crime of taking what is not yours is, unlike masking it under the generic term "corruption"
It is because we don't tag them as thieves, that's why a man accused of corruption, that is in court, to the tune of N102 billion would present himself to be elected as a president, governor or as a senate president.

The honest explanation that ex president Jonathan was trying to make- boom, the propaganda machinery tagged it as Jonathan saying "stealing is not corruption"

The only other country at par with the USA in terms of size is only Canada at 9 million square kilometers.

The normal Ibadan hood women , traders and vendor

They said in their Neighborhood Yahooboys won't let them rest with Sounds of Generator from morning till night as they don't work, and they also go clubbing disturbing them at night

They said with subsidy removal atleast the money would go to power generation for the whole country and other infrastructure

If these women could understand it's Economic importance , I wonder why some educated folks are against it especially NLC boss

Nigeria has over 11,000 abandoned Projects

*Fix Ajaokuta with $1.2billion USD and Nigeria would become manufacturer of steel based products

*Complete Zhengeru Projects, Mabila dam with $500m and we have more power

*Build two Nuclear powered plant and like 5 coal plant and Generate enough power to sell accross west Africa

*Build monorail in all major city

*Build Inter state roads and rail

.
@bold

They failed because there is no money or they failed because of corruption?

Nigerians love hiding behind one finger. It would be an error for you to think Nigeria is failing because there is paucity of funds.

Some of you just re-echo beautiful bedtime stories presented by politicians in public fora like you are the one saddled with the responsibility to implement it judging from the way some of you say it with so much gusto.

Funds spent on power between 2003-2019, is it not enough to build the "2 Nuclear Power plants, 5 coal plants and generate enough power to sell across West Africa" just exactly like you captured in your statement?

The 11,000 abandoned projects that you mentioned; is money the reason for their abandonment?
What have you seen differently this time around that is suppose to allay the fears of those that view every government action with suspicion? Is there any way we can hold them accountable if they repeat the same process?

Those are the indices we should be discussing and providing solutions, and not how you went to an amala joint and overheard market women saying what government will do with subsidy funds.
What you heard the women saying, how is it different from the failed campaign promises we have been nourished with in the past?

The NLC are empty individuals. Government didn't fix petrol prices, NNPC did for their filling stations.

By virtue of the Petroleum Industry Act, NNPC is a private company and no longer a government corporation. The price fixed by the NNPC are independent.

Filling stations that are not under the NNPC franchise can sell at whatever price they want.

Let's face it, the NLC wanted their party to win. The leadership of the trade union endorsed the Labour Party during this year's general elections.

It is painful when groups try to stall genuine and pertinent economic plans because they're not in power. It is counterproductive to play politics when its time for governance. Tinubu himself and the most members of the APC countered Jonathan when he started the process of removing fuel subsidy many years ago.

However, the NLC and sister organisation the Labour Party will fail to stop the removal of fuel subsidy and will fail to win elections in 2027 😂

Why then is government threatening and/or sealing private fueling stations?

Some of you are just unbelievable

I won't support the school of thought that feels Tinubu should have announced this later into his administration...no way! It would have been seen by majority of Nigerians as if it's his policy.. because we forget thing in this country.

So, it's better he is all out and out on this categorical statement that, he is inheriting what is already a LAW..that's Subsidy has not budgetary provisions in 2023 budget beyond June.

Some of you are unbelievable. Trying to pass the buck as a president is one of the first signs of failure as a leader, and it is exactly that you are trying to do on behalf of the new president.
If Tinubu does not have a 100% buy in on subsidy removal, he wouldn't have made executive declaration of its removal on his first day in office, especially when there is appropriation for subsidy payments till June ending.

Again, what exactly is the narrative that he inherited it, it is a law and other attempts at hiding behind one finger?
If president Tinubu wants subsidy payments to continue beyond June, he has the prerogative to send a supplementary money bill to the National Assembly for approval.

The idea behind what you wrote, exactly just like others, is an attempt to shift the blame to the previous government in the future if Nigerians begin complaining about the effects of this government policy.

The president of Nigeria is arguably among the most powerful presidents in the world because he can virtually do anything and not be held accountable so they have no good reason to fail, and to see ordinary citizens making lame excuses for their actions is difficult to read.

What do we have as Nigerians, even they don't respect our military anymore in Africa, nor is there any direct benefits they enjoy from Nigeria, so u think the rebels would allow peaceful evacuation of our people so that the sudanese army can use the opportunity against them abi.

My opinion though, you are free to disagree but no foul language, argue like a reasonable and rational thinking human being not like a lout

@bold. You are right, I'm sure that's why the US is extending thanks to Saudi Arabia in the statement for their role in the evacuation effort.

However, the Nigeria government is still grossly incompetent in our foreign relations. We always suffer from this die-minutes syndrome where we wait till something is almost beyond repair before we act...largely for selfish reasons.

Imagine sending a letter to Ethiopia in a war situation that can be dumped anywhere. How about calling their diplomatic lines directly either by the minister or even the president himself, to reach an agreement so our people can take refuge in that country.

It is because of our incompetent government that's why even countries like Sudan don't take us seriously or fear us, especially when we are even Specialists in killing our own citizens before the very eyes of the world.

Kukutenla:

You're capping
Neither Aston villa nor Nottingham forest were small clubs when they won the European Cup.
Besides, making your argument based on number of clubs to have won the ucl from a country is wrong because it's a case of margins. If Valencia and Atletico had won their finals against Madrid for example, Spain will have four different winners. I hope you're aware Valencia also got to the final in 2001 and were defeated by Bayern, a back- to- back final loss.
Even Deportivo made the semis once. Same with Villareal who almost eliminated liverpool last season.
So making a case based on number of clubs to have won including a relegated club who have not even appeared in UCL in this millennium is baseless.
Ucl is about wins not spread
@bold

It is because you read that part of my comment in isolation, the reason I believe you missed where I said "clubs considered to be small in present time . I never alluded if Aston Villa was small in 1982.

Secondly, the reason why I mentioned the number of teams that has won the competition from England was purely to support the argument that the EPL is highly competitive or the EPL has more teams competing at the highest level.
I don't understand why you brought in Valencia and Athletico....the claim is about "what is" and not "what could have been". If it was about near luck, I would have added Mancity and Tottenham.

@last paragraph.

It was the original argument from the first commentator that elicited the issue of spread.
Again, I still maintain that saying Madrid is better than the whole of the EPL because of the number of UCLs won is a wrong thing to say.

Liverpool has done it against Real Madrid in the Champions League, and against Deportivo in the UEFA cup. Likewise there are other English cup final wins against Spanish teams in the Super Cup. Most recently Chelsea vs Villareal
However, I am not interested in that argument cause it is a deviation from my argument in my opening comment.

Someone said Madrid has won 14 UCLs, while English teams combined has only won 13 which is wrong because it is 14, then he went ahead to opine that Madrid is better than the whole EPL for that singular reason.

The crux of my argument is that it is wrong to say so because more teams from England has won the competition including some that we consider to be very small clubs in present time. Other teams winning the UCL from the EPL apart from the traditional big-5 is a sign that the EPL is highly competitive, so I submitted.

I don't want to be dragged into a di*k measuring contest because the argument about the "best league" in the world is highly subjective

Whether Sahara lied or not, this particular letter from the health ministry is devoid of any fact.
The letter only mentioned bringing health care closer to the rural communities by setting up PHCs in the 177 wards of the state...the letter failed to mention at what cost, and if the PHCs in the 177 wards were all built within this budget cycle.

Besides making reference to 177 PHCs and wards in this letter, every other thing in that letter are just mere and general statements not worthy of a rebuttal.
What does patients getting care at no cost to them at a particular time got to do with refuting a claim that they spent 91 billion on PHCs, or mentioning how government has been doing well in the health sector?

The letter did not even state "if such money was not spent on PHCs" rather gave a line explanation of the gains made by the health ministry in building the PHCs and the procurement of other health equipment.

When fake news channels make outlandish claims, government should do well to provide facts so the public can shame the fake news merchants
