I have been using that same account before they acquired Continental Trust Bank where Ike Nwabuoku was MD then. However, i had no problem using it in Kaduna town for my transaction cos thats where i am based. But when the above incident happened in Lagos and i was made to wait for hours almost missing my flight back to Kaduna,. This happened in 2009. I came back to Kaduna and the Manager there advised that I request for a new cheque book. So its not a hollow story as you suggested. |

I believe that you should have asked for a slip to enable you withdraw over the counter if they claim your CB was not valid, at most you would paid a token. Besides, there are various ways to verify you are the account holder and you should have stuck to your right instead of walking out. Paying the token was not my problem. Politics › Re: Presidency Shops For Jega’s Replacement - Vanguard News by rhames(m): 5:57pm On Feb 10, 2015 |
spott: By Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North
ABUJA — With the successful postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Presidency has launched a two-pronged war to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan wins the election convincingly. Anambra Supplementary Election: INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega addressing pressmen , announcing November 30 for Supplementary election at Anambra State while National Commissioner Lawrence Nwuruku looks on in Abuja. Photo by Gbemiga Olamikan.
The two strategies are to stop Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate from contesting the election with Jonathan and the replacement of the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, with a less independent-minded person. Jega, it was gathered, had been described by hawks around the president of being too independent-minded and ‘uncooperative’ despite being given the job on a platter of gold by the president’s men. Vanguard learnt that Jega might have unwittingly played into the hands of the forces arrayed against him by agreeing to shift the elections.
Legal war to disqualify Buhari
Competent sources said last night that the move to remove Jega and the legal fireworks against Buhari, would be taken up simultaneously with effect from this week given the timeframe made possible by the shift.
The retired general is to be prosecuted by a team of legal luminaries for ‘lying on oath’ that he had a school certificate with the Nigerian Army when he knew that it was untrue. The plaintiffs are said to have settled for trying Buhari for alleged ‘perjury’ instead of outright non-possession of certificate following legal advice that the latter would be more difficult to prove within the time at their disposal.
Vanguard learnt that although Jega reluctantly succumbed to pressure from the Presidency and its security chiefs to shift the polls, he might still not be allowed by the forces to conduct the rescheduled elections between March 28 and April 11.
Vanguard gathered from competent sources that the Presidency was no longer comfortable with Jega and was, therefore, working tirelessly to get him out of the commission to pave the way for a more ‘trusted hand’ to conduct the rescheduled elections.
It was learnt that the forces arrayed against the INEC boss had convinced the President not to renew Jega’s tenure, which is expected to lapse on June 13 this year. The forces, it was learnt, felt that Jega was rather too ‘difficult’ to deal with, having not allowed himself to be dictated to by anyone since assuming office like other appointees of the government.
It was learnt that in a bid to sweep off Jega from his seat without raising any dust, he would be asked to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, this year since he is expected to retire on June 13.
S-West gov’s brother may replace Jega
Vanguard gathered that in his place, the Presidency was considering bringing in another academic from the South-West, who is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. The professor of Political Science and International Relations is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and his party. Competent sources also told Vanguard last night that although the name of the academic had been made known in security circles, it was not clear whether the man had been cleared by the forces with a view to sending his name to the National Assembly for possible confirmation, as required by law. Working against Jonathan’s interest As a prelude to removing Jega from office, some close allies of the President had started accusing him of taking side with the opposition to undermine the success of Jonathan and his party in the next election. Earlier last week, Jonathan’s godfather, Chief Edwin Clark and other prominent politicians from the Southern part of the country had accused Jega of working against the interest of the president and the PDP and asked him to resign from the commission.
Although no evidence was adduced by Clark and his group to support their allegation, they nonetheless called for the arrest of Jega. Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Saturday, said Jega had lied about the state of the commission’s preparedness for the conduct of the election.
In the same vein, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh, accused INEC of working with the opposition to deny its members of permanent voter cards in some states. He called on the security agents to probe the commission over the development.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/presidency-shops-jegas-replacement/ Professor Attahiru Jega has done well in his job. Thank God he is one of the few Nigerians who can stand his own rain or shine. May God Protect him to conduct this election very well. Amen. |

Politics › Re: Boko Haram Small But Financially Secure -US by rhames(m): 7:23pm On Feb 08, 2015 |
viczing: Boko Haram is flush with cash and weapons after a string of battlefield advances, but the fighting group could face a tougher fight with Nigeria’s neighbours, US intelligence officials have said.
In an assessment of the group, whose five-year uprising has included massacres and kidnappings and spread from Nigeria into neighboring states, the officials said they did not believe it posed a major threat to Nigeria’s oilfields in the south.
They said the group has about 4,000-6,000 “hardcore” fighters – considerably less than some estimates which have put the group’s size at up to 10,000.
The group is “financially secure” from bank robberies, kidnappings and other sources, and is able to go “toe-to-toe” with the Nigerian military after capturing an arsenal of arms, the intelligence officials told reporters.
However, the group could soon face an unprecedented test on the battlefield against more capable forces from Cameroon, Chad and Niger, they added.
The military intervention of neighbouring powers “potentially can be a game changer in a positive way,” one intelligence official said.
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Boko Haram were believed to be still holding about 300 schoolgirls they kidnapped early last year and had dispersed them to multiple locations.
Around 10,000 people were killed in Boko Haram attacks last year. The Sunni Muslim group poses the biggest security threat in Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer and biggest economy.
Concern over the insurgency appears to be and one of the main reasons for what appears to be a surge in political support for opposition leader Muhammadu Buhari in a February 14 election.
Many Nigerians believe Buhari, as a former military ruler, will be able to bolster the army’s hapless efforts to counter the insurgency, and that as a Muslim he may even be able to take some of the wind out of Boko Haram’s ideological sails.
The officials said the group had been engaging in both small-scale and larger attacks in recent weeks and they expected this mixed pattern of operations to continue during the election period.
The US officials’ comments came as Boko Haram suffered heavy losses after launching a major attack into Niger on Friday for the first time.
The clashes involved troops from Niger as well as Chad, which has adopted a leading role in the fight against the group.

Politics › Re: Gunmen Storm Lagos Press, Confiscate Book On Jonathan by rhames(m): 6:47pm On Feb 08, 2015 |
viczing: Like actions in Hollywood blockbusters, gunmen, which number could not be easily ascertained, on Friday morning raided a printing press in Shomolu area of Lagos State, carting away copies of a book on the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen harassed the printers and took away copies of the book, entitled Two-Faced Jonathan: 100 Reasons Why Jonathan Must Go, authored by Blessing Agbomhere.
Workers in the printing press who were too frightened, could not ask questions or confront the gun-wielding men suspected to be security operatives.
Speaking to journalists on the development, Agbomhere said the book was scheduled for launch at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Lagos, before the incident.
Agbomhere, who is also the initiator of Change Ambassador of Nigeria (CAN), said, “This book was being printed in Shomolu and I was told that the book that was to be launched today (Saturday) was taken away after someone within the printing press, who has sympathy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alerted security operatives about it.
“They came and confiscated all the printed copies of the book. They came in mufti.
“We don’t know the arm of security agency that they belong to, or whether they are private individuals or not.
“The printers had to immediately release the books to them, because, they were heavily armed. I am not owing them. I have already paid them.”
Agbomhere added that the book mirrors Jonathan as a “President of the cabal, Tompolo, Asari-Dokubo and a few other corrupt elements, who are sponsoring Boko Haram to destroy Nigeria’s unity.
“The book says President Jonathan has failed to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and as such should not seek re-election or ask for a job he know he doesn’t have the capacity to do,” he said.
The author dared Jonathan to act on the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) forensic audit report and bring those indicted by the report to book.
Also speaking, Ibilola Essien, a social entrepreneur with Act Now Nigeria, a non-governmental organisation, said the present administration has not done enough to salvage the country from the many problems besieging it.
According to her, poverty and corruption have continued to soar, while insecurity in the North East has claimed over 15,000 lives since 2009.

Deeman87: The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu 11, has warned the new Assistant Inspector of Police(AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Police Headquarters,Lagos, Mr Joseph Mbu to desist from any attempt to intimidate the people of Lagos as he earlier did in Rivers State, when he was police commissioner.
Akiolu gave the warning yesterday, while receiving the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate,General Muhammadu Buhari’s delegation in his palace.
The traditional ruler who urged people of Lagos to cooperate with security agencies, warned Mbu, saying: “Nobody can intimidate us. Let it be clear that Lagos is not Port Harcourt.”
“Though police redeployment is normal during elections, but any policeman that comes here to cause trouble will fail. I and my people will give him a matching order.”
He said police officers should not be partisan, adding that “police should do their constitutional role without bias.
He said: “I want to sound a word of warning to security agencies. If anybody comes here to come and cause trouble he will fail. Others have tried and failed. Sometimes back, someone (a police officer) was posted here and he attacked me and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I told him (police officer) he will fail and he did fail,” the monarch said.
He however urged the people of Lagos to cooperate with the security agencies for the general well-being of the state.
“I urged my people to cooperate with the police and the army to do their job. I want all my people to be peaceful and law-abiding. All shall be well with us,” he said.
The monarch said Lagos State has suffered under the PDP-led Federal Government since the return of civil rule in 1999. He described Buhari as an upright, honest and dedicated gentleman who meant well for the country.
“Lagos won’t ever lag behind again in the forthcoming dispensation. I know the ability of Buhari. He is very passionate about this country and he will deliver,” he added.
