Stegomiah: Dis op is funny, au many billonaires dey for naija and d world at large, and even if you're lucky τ̅☺ hav one, is he gonna share his wealth with you? I'll rada say aspire τ̅☺ be a billonaire yourself!Hmmmmm! Wonders never end! It is alleged in some quarters that there are more billionaires in Nigeria, than we care to acknowledge. Think of all those ill-gotten billions that have never been declared! |
eagle, eye:I see you attended your Law of Evidence lectures. However, this is not mere hearsay. This goes beyond hearsay to issues of justice and national reconciliation. We have never revisited the events leading up to the civil war, the Hausa- Fulani officers have distracted us, as such everyone keeps talking about Kaduna Nzeogwu. Buhari and his ilk murdered their comrades in cold blood, some in their sleep. Let's not forget the other one namely, John Shagaya. Let's talk now, because the generation of soldiers who witnessed these atrocities is dying out. |
charcoalblaq: Prof Chinua Achebe!I totally concur with you. I am also reading the book: I am short of words to describe it. How many of the so-called critics know that the first mention of Awo in the book is one of praise for his political astuteness? |
The process started years ago. Na now wey we wan begin to smell the coffee? |
Of course, no honour amongst thieves! Gbogbo won, barawo ni! |
Have you bothered to consider the hassles that come with travelling within Africa! Do you know that until recently, London and Paris were the best hubs for travel within Africa? |
usmsam: Nigerian Christians just baffle me. How can you say you believe in God and at the same time believe in ritualists. If you have enough faith in God, you shouldn't even believe such nonsense exists because it does not. Rubbish!I can't count the number of times I have postulated these sentiments, only to b rebuffed. The version of christianity that is in ascendancy in Nigeria, right now, has a different take on reality and theology. |
Litmus: Totally agree with Solomon. I'd actually go further and urge the so-called poor of Nigeria to shut up! Work hard and talk less. The reason Asia and other parts of the world has progressed more than Africa is significantly because the West, through the Media creates division in Africa between authority and common man, between rich and poor. In this way, the Media, imbued in the people of Africa a sense of entitlement and expectation diametrically opposite of the stage of development of their nations. You are so out of touch vis-a-vis the dynamics of everyday reality, that the term "reality" ought to be redefined for you and your ilk. Did you actually re-read what you posted here? This country must be doomed! 'Thanks' to Seun, this is a faceless forum. The anonymity it affords enables you type to spew your bigoted remarks without any proper soul searching. Let me conclude: any Nigerian youth who thinks all is well with this country right now must be feeding fat from the national trough, and/or some family member of his/hers is eating more than their fair share of the national cake. |
This is a worrying situation; where and when is this going to end!!!!!! So Free Speech is gone to the dogs, all this in a civilian regime ![]() |
I love both! My iPod and iPad have albums from both. :PI |
Saecula: yet it is indubitable that some jobs are syill being given on merit.Know what? You are right! It's just that the ratio is tilted in favour of favouritism and nepotism. Should'nt the reverse be the case? I wonder |
Dede1: Did I not say you were a drooling airhead in my previous post? Nobel crap or prize is an instrument of colonialism created to engender perpetual mental inferiority among Africans and African descents. The legendary Chniua Achebe put a definite stop to such tea table mentality by writing blistering essays and criticisms against Joseph Conrad and his Heart of Darkness. Furthermore, Achebe wrote a novel titled “Things Fall Apart” that had trumped and relegated “Heart of Darkness” into back shelves. The Nobel Committee tacitly regretted snubbing Ghandi. I won't be surprised if they do the same with Achebe. Achebe more than deserved a Nobel, but hey, he belongs to a select group of stars who never got it: James Joyce, Leo Tolstoy, Samuel L Clemens ( otherwise known as Mark twain) and, of course, many more! |
bolaino: chinua achebe was just a lucky man plain and simple, and the reason he could not win the nobel prize was cos he was not qualified to receive one, and instead of the man to use his popularity to preach about the power of forgiveness and moving forward he decided to preach hate and ethnic bigotry. Well he is dead, and he is deadAny you imagine that you know what Forgiveness really entails? To be forgiven, one must express regret or remorse for the ill or injury caused. Now, pray tell me who you. Wanted Achebe to forgive, or whom did you want him to preach forgiveness to? He is one of the many in the beautiful constellation of great writers who never won the Nobel. ( pls research this matter before you reply). Lastly, he never won the Nobel because he dared to challenge Joseph Conrad ( again, do some googling before you post some tribalism infected drivel here). By the way, I am a non-Yoruba and non-Igbo Nigerian: and have read both Soyinka and the late Achebe. I am the better because of their works. |
Eko Ile: Please keep quiet with your apples and oranges and irrelevant analogies.Who is talking off point and illogically of the two of us. Who taught you Logic? Or did you cut Logic classes to attend to irrelevant issues like irrational hate and self-degrading tribalism. |
Eko Ile: Please keep quiet with your apples and oranges and irrelevant analogies.Who is talking off point, of the two of us. Who taught you Logic? Or did you cut Logic classes to attend to irrelevant issues like irrational hate and self-degrading tribalism. |
Eko Ile: Typical loser talk. The fact that he was ignored year after year and decade after decade means he was never considered for the highest award in his line of based on the low quality of his work as clearly noted by Sam in his wonderful article..Following upon your logic, Ghandi was a failure. Know why? He never won the Nobel Ever heard of James Joyce? He didn't win it Marcel Proust? Ditto John Updike? Ditto Virginia Woolf? Ditto Mark Twain? Ditto Leo Tolstoy? Ditto And many others!!!! I don't suppose you recognise any of them, by your logic they are failures! I don't suppose your hate will allow you to see beyond Awo. Awo, was a great man on many levels. But, he had his faults. Face that fact. |
Eko Ile: Back to topic...Well sir, he is not the first great writer to miss out on the Nobel. In fact, the sheer class of all who have missed out on the Nobel Prize questions the very credibility of the Nobel Prize Comittee. By the way Achebe lost out on the Nobel thanks to his courage to say the truth, he spoke for you, me and all Africans. He dared to challenge the European mindset as evidenced in Joseph Conrad' works. Please read: kirbyk.net/hod/image.of.africa.html |
ochukoccna: Greece was once a world powerPlease, stop exhibiting your ignorance: " there are books of the times, and books of all the time" -Ruskin- |
2015 elections may sound the death knell of this country, as such every Nigerian must be smart/vigilant re their vote. On account of the current state of things in, as well as the past history of, this country; I am more likely to hold my nose and vote GEJ. |
scobaba: I like know all these guy children and grand children, make person no go bring evil come him/her family by associating with dem cos I no understand ds guy @ all.In two words, na wah for this dude! |
Talk about a good Photo in an obituary poster. The laughter and expanded shoulders say it all! Rest in peace, Mr Oghene! |
bandely: As fresh crisis surrounding the health of the First Lady Mrs. Patience Jonathan brews, the presidency has fired her spokesman, Mr. Ayo Osinlu. The news is contained in a press release issued by the president’s Special Assistant on the Media, Dr. Reuben Abati.Sheh this na 1st April? |
mainman7: You are very right! And instead of him to use his old age to bring unity, the selfish and senseless igbo nature controlled him, he fanned embers of wickedness. u igbos are fools, and bloody senseless liars like achebe, twisting history. I don't know any other tribe that is as ungrateful as d igbos. d Thoughtful Yorubas accepts them like brothers yet they rant about us. They are cowards, hausas are slaughtering their brothers like rams in the North, they do nothing.igbos always think they r d wisest and that is why they are fools who think life is only about money.igbos r d Genesis of d problem of dis country, traitors who spared their greedy leaders in January 29,1966 Coup. The civil war would not have happened. Yorubas don't betray, read history, ur useless father azikwe started d betrayal thing when Awolowo helped him to d top and he didn't fulfill his part of their agreement.in d January 1966 igbo coup,Brgd Ademulegun, Col Fajuyi and other Great Youruba Millitary Men were killed, as usual d ever deceitful igbos, against the agreement, told their greedy leaders to skedaddle. igbos must apologize to d Yorubas now!d YORUBAS are already uniting and getting ready for u people.igbos or hausas, what u want is want u shall get from us,Peace or War!What one earth are you smoking? UNITY is not our problem: lack of national honesty is the problem. Achebe knew that fact, and tried to correct it. Poor man, he never stood a chance |
Didi_8: Achebe actually succeeded in denigrating the leaders of other tribes while making his own people the best thing that ever happened to Nigeria. This is definitely not the quality for a man who will make a great contribution to the progress of his country. Great men are never divisive characters, especially when it comes to nation building. Achebe definitely misfired in his last book, and he regretted the uproar the book generated. The book even went to the extent of undermining to genuiness of Igbo intelligentia, hagiographically portraying them false story tellers. It is sad that Achebe who wrote 'Things Fall Apart' in 1958 could descend (through his personal frustration with Nigeria) to the level of writing 'There Was a Country' in 2012. I have read the book twice and I know what am talking about. Nigeria is not a perfect country, and Achebe's last book is definitely a badly written book with his intentions best known to him. Achebe should have known that an elder should not be the one to start a war or foment hatred amongst his people. All the same, we cannot kill the dead. May his soul rest in perfect peace.Wow! Hold your horses!Your contribution is riddled with non-sequiturs, as well presumed conclusions. Achebe did not start any war, he only commented on a war that is likely to consume our union. A condemnation of Awo, in my opinion, is not a condemnation of the entire Yoruba race. Please be realistic! Achebe is being denigrated here, by an unapologetic section of Nigeria. To these haters, he committed the ultimate crime: he told the truth ( the good, the bad, and the really ugly). To the haters, I have a sort message: Achebe's death led to worldwide "Stop Press" mode. How many Nigerians can literally bring the world press to a literal standstill, for the right reasons? To all of these haters, is today's Nigeria the Nigeria of your dreams? Should your answer be a "yes", then you do have more than one reason to hate Achebe! However, should your answer be a resounding "no", then you see Achebe as a prophet. Achebe has achieved more than what a significant number of us are ever likely to achieve, even of we were to live for 8,200 years. |
Some of the hate one encounters here can be very disheartening. The bulk of those on the forum were born after the war, I like to think so. So why the massive transfusion of hatred and mistrust from grandparents/parents to the younger generation? By the way,I am neither Igbo nor Yoruba: But I have reasons to respect both tribes. Why can't everyone of us agree that something terrible happened in this country between 1966 and 1970? Most, if not all, of what is wrong with our country stem from the evils that have we individually, or collectively sanctioned and supported. I have travelled the world, and know that this country is doomed if those of us who are young don't change our world views and compulsive copying of our older ones. |
Chanchit: :-XI think Achebe really tried in promoting civil war in Nigeria, even with the last book he authored last year.u What planet do you inhabit? Nigeria has been in a state of civil war since 1914, and here you are complaining that Achebe tried to instigate a civil war. The man merely reminded you of some fact that you'd rather forget. |
dayokanu: He was a great fiction writer though he had problems with the truth and accepting fateWhy are you spewing this amount of hatred and bigotry? I don't know if you are aware of the this dictum " from the abundance of the heart, speaketh the mouth" |
alaoeri: Pls save my ignorance who's Achebe & wetin he do for Nigeria?I guess you think you are very funny?!?!?!? |
This is my Roll-Call: Myohaung barracks, Lagos ( small place, kind of cozy and warm) Ribadu Cantonment, kaduna (The Good, the bad and the most awesome) ECR Ede, Osun State ( More of a farming community than an Army barracks) |
Odunharry: I didn't stay in face-me-I-face-you but in the barracks for 17yrs, cheii..it almost as worse as slap-me-i-slap-u....@ OP I can swear that you have never lived in an Army barracks. Your post is a composite from various sources. The Airforce and Navy barracks are in a class of their own, for many reasons. Even amongst the Army barracks, there the Grade A ones like, Ojo Cantonment,Ikeja cantonment, Ribadu Cantonment, Mokola Barracks, Depot Barracks Zaria, and Rukuba barracks. The foregoing are the A-listers, the other are small time barracks of one brigade or units. The life in the A-listers is not the same as life in the small ones. Will be back with more gist, make I try do some work first. |
MEILYN: 150 wasteThat's your opinion. |
TUMIC: And yet they call Northerners MUMU!I talk long ago, dem say I dey over react! |
