glen87: Oya those that regard Fashola as god should defend him. Is it not same fashola and Thienubu that wasted billions of naira and blocked the whole surulere just to celebrate thifubu birthday. Criminals.
But do you accept that he is better than the PDP lot? In a country full of blind citizens, he with the mere one eye towers above all.
He is not god or even near-divine, but he has definitely bettered the lives of his fellow citizens in Lagos. Please, quit hating for hating sake.
Fashola is not a saint by any stretch of one's imagination, but he would have been better if the ruling party had bothered to strengthen the democratic institutions in Nigeria since 1999. Ours is a very sick democracy, even the most ardent and passionate PDP supporter recognises this truth.

PoliticsRe: Fashola Is Fatigued Of Ideas – Lagos PDP by Ribaman(m): 10:29pm On Jan 23, 2013
horlatunde: BY DAPO AKINREFON
THE Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State over his directive to his commissioners and senior civil servants not to speak to the press on matters of governance in the State.

The party alleged that following this directive, it has shown that Governor Fashola “has skeletons in his cupboard and desperate to cover up his misdeeds, even If he has to turn the state into a fully Fascist State.”

In a statement by its chairman, Capt Tunji Shelle (rtd), the party said the move was an attempt by the governor to cover up his alleged misdeeds.

Shelle said “similarly, such a step presupposes that all is not well in Alausa and the Governor is panicking.”

He added that such a reactionarydirective can only be sustained in a “fascist regime which the Governor may turn the state into if not checked”,
noting that “no wonder the Lagos State House of Assembly is so slow to domesticate the FOI Act, which would allow private persons to get information on the workings of the Government.”

Besides, the party chairman said;”we have said severally that Governor Fashola is not on the seat to serve Lagosians selflessly. We have equally
stated too that the huge IGR, now over N40 billion monthly, are being shared between the Governor and the ACN leadership.

“Now that the Governor is jittery and has come out to ban his Commissioners and Senior Civil servants from speaking to the Press, then he has admitted failure and misdeeds. We are now indeed vindicated.

PDP recalled that the same Governor had sometime sacked certain Media houses from reporting from the State Secretariat, claiming that they are Anti
ACN-policies.

“We make bold to say that Governor Fashola is now obviously fatigued of ideas to further govern Lagos State. He is now so overwhelmed by the self imposed pressures and no more has original ideas for Lagosians.

“Lagos state is too sophisticated to be used as experiment. Rather than become a ‘taiwan’ idea Governor, we advise Governor Fashola to apologise to
Lagosians and bow out honourably”, Shelle stated.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan, Dickson, Archbishop Trade Words at Azazi's Burial by Ribaman(m): 7:39am On Dec 31, 2012
Hycinth is a soft-spoken, intensely spiritual and gentle person. Takes a lot to ruffle his feathers. First met him in the 1990s, he is also a great classroom teacher!
Go for it HY!

lanre_front: The remains of former National Security Adviser, late Andrew Azazi, who died in a helicopter crash, were buried on Saturday at the Ijaw Heroes Memorial Park, along Sani Abacha Expressway, Yenagoa in Bayelsa State.

Among dignitaries at the commendation service included wife of the President; Patience Jonathan; Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; members of the National Assembly; service chiefs; former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Alamieyeseigha; former governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke; and his wife, Onari; among others.

Although it was supposed to be a solemn funeral service for the departed soul, Bishop of Bomadi Catholic Vicariate, Archbishop Hyacinth Ogbebor, exercised his apostolic liberty and expressed his profound disappointment over poor governance and deplorable condition of infrastructure in Bayelsa State in particular and Nigeria in general.

Ogbebor took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Government for their inability to fix the dilapidated East-West Road.

He also bemoaned the developmental retrogression in Bayelsa, describing the situation as worrisome.

He condemned the conduct of public officers whom, he noted, are deliberately impoverishing Nigerians through acts of corruption and lip-service to issues of development and campaign against corrupt practices in the country.

Ogbebor, who was delivering a homily at the funeral service for the former Chief of Defence Staff, pointedly told the audience which included President Goodluck Jonathan to put the East-West Road in good shape and save hapless Nigerians from their untimely deaths resulting from pothole-ridden roads crisis-crossing the country.

He said, “Mr. President, repair the East-West Road. Tankers fall on that road every day. Spare the lives of Nigerians. Work the road. The potholes should be covered. I almost got killed on the East-West Road because I shuttle between Bomadi (in Delta State) and Bayelsa.”

He also admonished Dickson to translate his words on development into action because, according to him, the people of Bayelsa would not fly in the sky to get to their houses.

Describing Azazi’s death as tragic and devastating, the clergyman said the frequent occurrence of air mishaps in Nigeria was frightening and unbecoming.

“His death is tragic. It is a devastating blow to Bayelsa and Nigeria, more than the flood disaster.”

Ogbebor, who is also a member of the state’s post-flood management committee headed by Azazi, noted that if the military is unable to protect its own, it will be difficult to believe that it can protect citizens.

He lamented that, before now there was dedication and professionalism in service. “But now, compromise and money have taken over,” he stated.

Ogbebor, however, said he was aware Jonathan was trying his best in the task of nation building and that the Church was praying for him and his administration to succeed.

President Jonathan, while paying tribute to Azazi, reminded Archbishop Ogbebor that lack of attitudinal change was responsible for most of the problems plaguing the nation.

Jonathan said the emphasis on corruption most of the time was also misplaced as some of the cases that are brought under the purview of corruption do not belong there, stressing that until Nigerians behave rightly and properly, the country cannot move forward the way it should move.

He remarked that if 50 percent of Nigerians behave uprightly like Azazi, then the country would experience a change.

Jonathan said: “If all of us or if only 50 percent of Nigerians, and I mean it, if 50 percent of Nigerians that have privileges to certain offices or by virtue of their own struggle, have gotten to some level in society like General Azazi, this country will change.

“If we do things properly, if we change our attitudes as Nigerians, most of these issues we are blaming on corruption, we will know that it is not corruption”

On his part, Governor Dickson expressed dismay over Archbishop Ogbebor’s remark, pointing out that he did not complain about developmental backwardness in Bayelsa in the five years that preceded his administration.

While highlighting some of the contracts that his administration had awarded so far, Dickson cried that Azazi’s family, Bayelsa and Nigeria had lost a rare gem and icon, who was not only a father, but a loving husband, grandfather and an accomplished soldier.

During the church service for the late General Azazi, his first daughter, Akpolade, read the first lesson at the funeral service while her younger brother, Pelede, read the second lesson and his first son, Owoye Azazi Jr, gave a tribute of their late father.

Among those who paid glowing tributes to Azazi, besides Jonathan, Dickson and Pelede, were the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, and former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen Alexander Ogomudia.

Others were: Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika; Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke; and Governor of Rivers State and Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Chibuike Amaechi.

Amaechi named a street under construction in Elekahia area of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, after Azazi.

Azazi’s remains were lowered into a concrete grave at the Ijaw Heroes Memorial Park at about 2:55pm after a parade by a military guard of honours.

Why are you passionately defending someone whose actions are clearly being ventilated and examined?
It's not about the ICC, it's about national growth and integration.

confusion247: Biafra Biafra Biafra.....40 years after the war, the agitation have refused to die and every effort to suppress it have proved abortive instead the effort is giving the agitation energy and popularity. From the day this name Biafra was born and rejected by Nigeria, we have known no peace and progress. I will suggest we allow Biafra to stand so that we can have peace.
Looks like you don't get it. We are where we are because of the factors that gave rise to the Biafran war. Achebe's book is an opportunity for every one of us to reassess where we are as a nation vis-a-vis where have been. It also another opportunity to critically look at ourselves in the light of what we are, and what we could have been!

Until we do the foregoing, nothing will work in this country! It is not about the ICC or whatever! Lastly, the Biafran war turned out the way it did only because the US was bogged down in Vietnam. The Irish catholic lobby in the United States would and could have helped to kit out the Biafran side, but the Vietnam war meant the US had other priorities.

Gowon fought for one Nigeria, can he really say he is happy with what we currently have on ground! He was a tool in the hands of those who had an agenda against the Igbos, sadly he discovered that truth too late!

When someone treats you bad, you do not have to take laws into your own hand.
All you have to do is seek justice.
The beauty of Biafra's case is that you are not filing your case within Nigeria.
Why not go ahead and seek justice.
Knowing what to do and not doing it is foolishness.
So for which of my comments do you think I should be crucified?
Please stop being petulant and churlish!
Pls be methodical and dispassionate for once.
Pray tell me what is wrong with our ruling class, and why we can't hold them accountable!

WE TOLD THEM,"PRESENT YOUR CASE"
THEY CAN NOT.
WHY SINGING DIRGE WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO ACT.
AWOLOWO IS INNOCENT UNTIL ICC DECLARE HIM OTHERWISE.
GO, TAKE ACTION. THAT IS MY ONLY ADVICE.
OUTSIDE THAT, THE REST WILL TANTAMOUNT TO DANCE OF SHAME.
@ all
Remarks like the one above are very indicative of why we are we are!
For the unwise, unlearned and unschooled; the evils and problems in today's Nigeria spring from the wrongs that occurred in this country between 1966 and 1970. Those who killed the Igbos have turned their guns and 'entitlement' mentality on us.
Do not deceive yourselves, the Igbos were, and are, not their only enemies and victims. Like it or not, we all are their victims, in one way or the other!

To to Yoruba irredentists amongst us, the biggest proof that we are all victims is the fact that a smart, organised and articulate visionary like Awolowo never made it to the presidency. Nigieria, and in deed all Nigerians are poorer because Awo never made it to the presidency!

Pls, leave Achebe alone! He is not the one who ruined Nigeria! Those who ruined Nigeria are the vey people who committed genocide against the Igbos!

Lastly, this country will never improve, as long as we are afraid to say the truth without recourse to tribe, religion and/or state!

By the way, I am not even an Igbo man! I am just a Nigerian who once believed, very passionately, in the enterprise called Nigeria.
