Let me add my 2 cents.
Ill tell you a personal story.
My older brother served in Benin and met his steady gf during his final months of NYSC. He stayed an additional year working in the city. He however informed the girl that he will be Japa. He broke off the relationship saying if you can wait for me to settle, wait . If you can't , you can't. 2 years being abroad, the lady's mum starts the pressure statics. He informs her, I am not ready yet.
Long story short, she gets married to the 1st person who asked her out - she got pregnant blah blah blah. She has 2 kids. The dude comes back from UK after 5 years, He is also in a relationship but comes back to visit his friends and parents solo. When they meet each other, she starts to cry uncontrollably. ( Na me be designated driver, so I know). She said she is sorry she didn't wait for him, as they begin to discuss about the past, you could see that she has regrets about the whole thing. And said in hindsight she would have waited. They kissed, pre-intimacy... that's when I said hmm hmm. ( they had forgotten i was there or they no send me )

I also have another experience of a dude who just left school, No work but the parents of the girl, liked the dude and saw potential in him. They preferred to give their daughter to someone who would treat their girl with respect, love and make her happy than someone whom they thought might not.
So they got married at the registry, they lived in her parents basement for 2 years while he found work and moved out into their first home. They have 3 kids who are out of the house - they are 18 and live on their own.

A close buddy of mine is in deep shit, just 2 days back he confided in me telling me his maid (who the wife employed herself) is 14weeks pregnant!

Earlier in the year, his wife got an invite to do her masters program in Scotland and they have a 5year old Son, so she elected they employ a maid since she couldn't take him along, she even did so herself.

The husband is a pilot and always never at home (the security the wife had I guess), now I don't know whatever went on in his tiny head, they got intimate (just once) and boom! she caught the shot expertly.. Now, his wife is due back in September, and he's scheduled to travel again by Monday(to return only God knows when).

So technically, his wife might even return before him.

He asked for my suggestion and help, because he mentioned abortion to her and she refuted saying she nearly died after the last one she did, so the doctor warned her sternly against it.

I told him that the best I can advise/do for him is to take her in until she puts to bed. let him tell his wife she ran off with a guy or something of the sort. then we take it up from there after delivery.

The situation is one dicey and fragile one, if not handled carefully with wisdom, can ruin a lot!

I stepped out of the mini bus, and by this time it was already becoming a scene. Folks thought I was guilty of something nobody wanted to help. Their voices drowned mine their hands were all over me.

I just thought within my self that I wasn't gonna be used for suya by irresponsible and degenerates whose lives and future had been harzaded and wrecked. Heck these guys were gone past redemption. I doubt their mothers would weep over their dead bodies. I'm pretty sure their mothers had laid curses on them, regretted not aborting them. Their fathers drunk and useless, old beggars. Probably dead.

One Rick shaw rider just slowed down to see what was going on. I saw an opportunity present itself and I was grateful. I forced my self closer to the keke. The man was uncomfortable with me approaching so he tried to move away. As he doubled his acceleration, I quadrupled mine.

Confused, he decided he was not going to watch anymore before he got involved in something bigger than he had bargained.

As he tried to zoom off, I threw my self into the air. Those boys didn't see that coming. Their grip had loosened. I jumped and clinged on the keke. The rider got more frightened and increased his speed. When we had gone a safe distance, he asked me what happened and I told him. He asked me to check if anything was missing. Gladly only a hundred naira was missing.


This was around 4pm. I told babe to go home that I was gonna see her later. Went to my hood and shared the story with one street og.

Without mentioning the frat to him, nigga told me it had to b vikings. Told me what to do if such happens again. He also tried to get me join his frat to avoid future intimidation. I politely declined, gave him 2k and left.

Got home, called babe to ask her how far. She started laughing and calling me a coward. She meant it as a joke, but it was demasculating and demeaning.

I wouldn't tell you hold old . But I was much conscious when 3rd mainland bridge was commissioned. JB of those days of amazing infrastructure you mentioned isn't same JB of today. They're not so strong as they used to be. I've seen roads constructed by them which was redone in less than 2 decades after it was constructed. Lagos-abeokuta Expressway is a good example, which They're now reconstructing with skukuk funds. They've compromised greatly. In the 80s, if they bidded for a contracts and they were being offered less, they'd not do the job cos they wanted to maintain the quality standards.

Apologies, did not mean to make it personal with the age. Yes you are correct JB of the 90's isn't the same of now but is it because they employed local indigenes to take over or the engineers they recruited from Germany are worth their stuff.
