De Beauvoir: What has feminism got to do with African culture? Are you kidding me? Are you seriously not aware of all the different sexist cultures that pervade African socities?

Take marriage for example,

In Africa the woman must always be the surbodinate, before she gets married, she must have a 'bride price' paid on her head as if she is nothing but property that can be bought and sold. After marriage she has to change her name from her father's name to her husband's name because women are not allowed in African cultures to have identities of their own. They must always be under the man in their lives, whether it is their husband or their father.

When she bears children they will claim to come from the father's village or town, that is if she doesn't marry a man who comes from the same tribe she does. Her kids will say that they belong to their father's home town and not hers. They will not bear her name they will bear their father's name. No matter how much she sacrifices in raising them, their father will always have the final claim to them. Even if he is a lousy and irresponsible father, they will still bear his name and claim his village.

How can you not see the injustice in all this?

These things are not even in the Bible, there is no instruction in the Bible for women to have bride price paid on them, therer is no instruction in the Bible that says a woman must bear her husband's name so why are we still enforcing these laws?



And why is it incumbent on women to be humble and submissive to their husbands? What is wrong with having an egaliterean marriage? Some men don't have leadership skills, they have wives who are better decision makers than they are, they have wives who are smarter than they are but inspite of all that, women are always expected to submit and be humble in marriages. It doesn't make sense for a woman to be smarter and better at making decisions than her husband but still submit to his whim and will when it comes to decision making.



These sexist norms in Africa are the cause of negative stereotypes associated with women in our society today. It is because of these things that men see women as inferior and unintelligent.

Anyway, aunty joavid, if your personal desire is to adhere to the African rules and regulations regarding gender roles then go right ahead and do so. Nobody is forcing you to accept feminist ideologies.

Most of what you stated here is a way of life 'Culture'. Which as influenced all of us one way or the other. And this P is simple because a lot of customs and norms has been altered, modified till date to fit into today's world. Without that we would never have gotten this far, sorta far shaa. Or do you think 9yr olds would have started school, wouldn't 20yr old ladies be planning for a 3rd child ? of which some people still chose to see advantages in them. And as you know the youths of today, majority of'em don't give the nibblest of hoots about culture, of which most of the culture might be facing extinction. I have never heard anyone tell me crap about women not deserving equal treatment from anyone, down to the laws and benefits of life. Am not ruling out that it doesn't exist but i can asure you that tons off peolple even men will turn up against it.

Have you ever lashed out at anyone for not treating you like a woman ?. As some women will ask you to when they feel you're are being too rigid on them or when you talk to them without compassion as men would talk to themselves at times. What would you think the woman asking to treated as woman here means ?

Until some women realize that it is between them, that they have built some limitations to themselves and at the same time feel inferior to some things that they think wrong. It's just like how some black people feel inferior to the white men, or how a particular ethnic group feels towards another.

They should do that research based on the youths of today and they will find a friendlier result. The thing is no one is really against feminism it's just that way some women feel inferior towards their male counterpart. And this i'll blame on their upbringing or their own perception not agreeing to change, while i was growing up none of my parents attached any importance on me despite being the only male among 3 sisters. we were brought up equally. So far i have no p with feminism except that sometimes it just seems like they try to attach too much importance on females, just like males do a times.

Only a myopic person would say the female child should not be granted equal rights and freedom as it is to the male child. I as a person know that women are a very important part of our lives no matter on which card you want to play them, they are as important as men. And we know that even before feminism became a word somethings have been attached to a particular gender which still tells till date. Which is what i think feminism is trying to change.

Another thing i hate a times is that, they go over the edge while asking for gender equality, all in the name of feminism some women feel they produce enough testosterone which makes some of them think they have a diick growing between them. In cases like that i ask them if you want total equality and you expect me to pull your chair, act like a gentle man while still treating you as an equal you've have no fuckin meaning what equality is because i wouldn't do that for a bruva.

I beg your brothers to sign up for adoption in my house. In my house when i was growing, as early at 9, i would wash everyfuggin thing there is to wash; toilet,bathroom,plates,window,the floor, and the dirtiest rags of the world. Although i was a stubborn kid, i would sweep every morning before going to school. Being the only boy in the family with 3 sisters people at school would always tease me about being lucky because they taught being the only boy means ultimate freedom from chores. But hella NO! was the case here, at 15/16 i was still doing all i listed above plus washing the plates of the whole house and running of them crazy errands like pepper grinding, and some impromptu errands like that at a point i was like God why this family ?. Pops wasn't around most of the time so i called over the phone, spoke through text msgs, but pops didn't get the picture he was advising to continue that it's part of my contribution to the family, i felt like running away. My mom always made references like what if we were all males what will i do ? and there's a big point in that.

The P didn't stop until i got admission into a school, while in school i appreciated that i had that training in me, because i didn't have to wait for a girlfriend before i cook, wash or do anything,it made me independent to an extent. I wouldn't have whined about it if i knew it was going to end. But i can't deny that it is very hard doing those chores without a nibble of encouragement. Now it's my lil sis that's doing it,i feel sorry for her because it's a lot do and some times get very tiring.

So as a pop i would definitely let my male child do some because in the end he'll be the one needing it.

The P as been said, except the one with extreme humbleness, Which is very rare. They naturally tend to not give hoots when they're independent, you'll rarely find a guy who doesn't like independent ladies, it's just that the independence is usually accompanied with bossy attitudes which later turns out to seeing the man as unimportant because she can virtually provide almost anything she needs for herself, except fuckin herself. Then any slight mistake you make the thunder of words will fall on you, and men who naturally have egos will feel bruised like me. The P is no matter how independent a lady is she should see the connotation in the phrase "it's a mans world". That's why a lot of them are freakin single and the married ones are now divorced.

I really appreciate independent ladies and ladies who are reasonably dependent not like the hoes we have this days.
