In this modern world we are in, Michael Porter came to Nigeria, gave a lecture and report to Nigerian government officials on how to create a competitive Nigeria that would potentially get tens of millions of people out of poverty, reduce crime and terror rates, reinstate national dignity etc and the Nigerian press hardly carried it.

But Kim Kardashian carries her ikebe to Nigeria, they put it as front-page news.

It irritates me.

coogar: pistorious is an athlete with a tremendous upper body strength. his disability lies in his lower body. i am sure he can carry or drag that fan across the apartment to his room.

wearing his prostheses and taking it off just to get a fan? sagamite, haba? that would take him the best part of 20 mins - a waste of time when he can hobble on his stumps and complete the task in 2 mins.

the police have already conceded the ballistics were consistent with pistorious version of the event that transpired that night. botha admitted that yesterday in the court.
I don't care what kind of superb athlete he is, but to carry a 5ft 4inch, disproportional centre of gravity, metal fan while sitting on your arsse would be pretty much difficult and awkward even if you are Hulk Hogan. grin

He would save time, noise and discomfort by just slipping in his artificial legs.

Okay, about the Botha stuff. Maybe that is a 'Get out of Jail' from that line of question, otherwise he was nailed! grin

bomly: My friend Sagamite, I honestly think Goldie does not deserve that level of condemnation (from my point of view) simple because she had her life in the light, some of this things they do are just to entertain and majority of us love it at least I know I like Beyonce just like Dbanj sang but she is seen to a lot of people as one illuminate sort of which doesn't bother me, let her sing and let her song make some sense to my hearing. Oya he don do make we let Goldie rest I beg una. So what's next
Personally, I am not condemning her.

My concerns are more about the value the society puts over her type in contrast to the value they put over other people that add more value to society.

I remember when Rashidi Yekini died, some foools were saying the government should have funded his health issues. These same mugus did not say Beko Ransome Kuti or Gani Fawehinmi's health bills should have been funded by the government because their immense sacrifice and contribution to the masses is not so funky. In the society we live in nowadays, if you can dance Alanta and shoot football, then you should be made Grand Commander of Commanding Commanders of the Federal Republic of Commanders of Nigeria by these funky mugus of Generation St(u)pid.

https://www.nairaland.com/930325/rashidi-yekini-dead/6#10751417

Goldie is free to sing, dance and gyrate as much as the law allows but I get offended with society for putting that as some significant social contribution.

bomly: Read through this again and you can deduce just two things
1) Irrationalism
2) Writes good English as far it has to do with dehumanizing another

My Advice: Upgrade and focus on the good part in peoples life.
No one said she does not have a good part or she is a bad person.

The key message is to watch what parts/personalities/behaviours we celebrate and iconise and hence indirectly adding to the shaping of our society.

That is not irrational, that is sense.

If I was prosecuting lawyer, assuming that pictorial is accurate, I would be asking how he intended to carry the fan of that size in.

Why was he not wearing his prosthetic legs to get the fan, it would have been a much easier process that way?

This also contradicts police claim that the trajectory of the shots where of someone standing while he claimed he only wore it after the shots.

You don't have an opinion of what your legislators (your elected representatives) should set as law for your society?

coogar: what was found in his flat that the police claimed was steroids happened to be a herbal remedy. at first, i also thought he was as guilty as cain but then i started following the case and all the earlier claims and allegations were just mere lies or speculations.

the "neighbours" happened not to be neighbours - can you call someone living 1000 feet away from you neighbours? then they brought up the issue of a bloodied baseball bat, autopsy reports showed there was no bruise or any single sign of a physical assault or any struggle.

the more i looked, the less i saw. the only flaw we have against him is the fact that he shot into the bathroom without being sure of what he was shooting at. surely, premeditated murder should have more inconsistencies with pistorious' story. at this point, there's none.
Yep, the police have been incompetent.

but what would be the motive to kill his girlfriend? how did the girlfriend end up shot in the bathroom? the bladder starts filling up as soon as it's emptied and autopsy report revealed there was no urine at all in her bladder. whether he acted foolishly or not is no longer important - what's now imported is if he shot her intentionally or accodentally.
I don't know what his motive is. It shocks me!

One possibility I thought of was that he was high on drugs to the point of being out of his mind but police have not seem to find any drug paraphernelia despite a thorough search that found other things.

I don't know why he has chosen to destroy his good and heroic life.

Everyone likes him and everyone wished this never happened.

coogar: his vulnerability is the reason he grabbed his gun. if he had 2 legs and if he's physically fit, he would rely on his physical strength to deal with any intruder and the weapon of choice would be a knife, baseball bat or a plank.
Even without me having vulnerability (apart from my third leg inhibiting my movement grin), I would still grab my gun.

I would grab my gun BUT I would INSTINCTIVELY be checking for my woman and let her know what is abow ta go'down and she should be ready to run to safety or call for help.

[quote author=omo_to_dun]As some people have said, the article, though thought provoking in some sense, is riddled with bias and self-righteousness. Personally, I see absolutely no problem with the way things are in my community. No one forced me to click on any of Goldie's thread. I chose to. I was raised to take responsibility for my actions and not to blame others for my mistakes. "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." So if your child is learning from a celebrity---and not you---then you are a failure. Stop blaming celebrities. No one is forcing you to do anything.

I don't expect the blame game to change. It is what Nigerians do best. We still blame the white man for the state of our country, till this day.

Foreign AffairsRe: What Do You Think Of Oscar Pistorious' Explanation? by Sagamite(m): 2:14pm On Feb 21, 2013
coogar: the father is an ex-cop, there was light in the house and he has 2 legs to walk.

pistorious is vulnerable without his prostheses - if he perceives there's an intruder in his apartment, he's more likely to be edgy about the situation than an ex-cop. it's easy for any intruder to take advantage of a disabled athlete than a fully-fit ex cop and he has claimed the room was pitch-dark when he took his gun to confront the intruder.
I am not saying the father is not wrong. He is still wrong.

That said, the report says he was 77 year old and the mental faculty was in decline, so I would not say he was fully fit.

Yes, Pistorious is vulnerable, but I don't think his vulnerability could have impaired him from the natural instincts of checking for his girl as long as the intruder is not in the room.

I actually think his vulberability should be more of a trigger for checking for her because he might need support handling the intruder(s) and, secondly, he is not in a physical position to protect both of them so his vulnerability should have triggered him to wake her up and warn her to save herself even if she cannot back him up.

coogar: it's the same - they were both together in the living room, the son went out as the father drifted to sleep. the father could have asked the "intruder" who he was.....but he didn't. he just shot him point blank.

by the same token, the father should have checked for his son knowing there were 2 of them watching TV before he dozed off. these cases are very similar. pistorious is disabled, such men are vulnerable without their prostheses.

he thought she was in bed. bedroom was pitch-black and he heard noises in the bathroom.

the same way the ex-cop did not react naturally when he found out his son was no longer beside him in the living room and someone was coming in through the back. i don't really expect the cop to have his gun in his pocket while watching TV. he must have gone to collect his gun somewhere and yet ignored to check if everyone was safe before confronting the intruder. how is this case different to pistorious and why is his statement consistent with the evidence gathered so far?
Obviously the father could have and should have asked who the intruder was but it is still not as bad as Pistorious.

In the fathers case:

1) The son could have existed the room and gone to his bed. That is a reasonable assumption.

2) The suspect was coming from outside the house at a time he did not expect his son to be outside. Coming from outside aligns to what would most likely happen if an intruder is breaking in.

3) If an intruder is coming in the house, he would not really have the liberty to check for his son's location. It is either the son is in the sitting room, which he was not, or he had gone to bed, which was a reasonable possibility.

Pistorius on the other hand was in a location in the house one would reasonably expect both of them to be in at that time.

He claimed not to have done what would naturally be done by any rational human being:

1) Grap my murrafcking gun.

2) As the intruder is not in the bedroom, warn the loved one next to me to either support me or keep safe.

That is the natural reasonable and rational expectation.

He then proceeded to the only other reasonable place that his girlfriend could be and then fired without seeing anyone or asking any questions.

If Pistorious shot his girl in the bedroom at the foot of the bed or in the doorway, it would make more sense to me and fit more with the father one, because:

1) He would not have the time to check for girlfriend.

2) He can reasonably claim he assumed she was asleep next to him and the figure he saw was an intruder.

coogar: they were both in the living room, son went out as the man dozed off. he woke up as the son was coming back in through the back door and he mistook him for a burglar - and squeezed the trigger! this is a veteran police officer! you cannot accurately tell how any human being would behave in the face of imminent danger under his roof. humans react differently to emergencies. pistorious story so far has been consistent to all the evidence the prosecutor has gathered so his story makes perfect sense......he's about to be bailed as we speak.
That is fundamentally different from Pistorious case because, at least, it can be reasonably assumed the son could have gone somewhere else (gone to his bedroom) even if the father does not see him.

Once Pistorious and girl have gone to bed, the most likely place she would be after sleeping is next to him. So he could easily and would have instinctively have checked for her once a feels an intruder was in the house.

If she was not in bed, then the alternative reasonably place she would be at that time is in the toilet.

So he did not do a natural expected reaction of checking for her in bed, and then proceeded to shoot at a place she could possibly be without checking. Haba!

dare2think: However Sagamite, the need for tolerance and respect for other people's choice in living their lives must not be undermined. Excessive freedom and liberal view is often regarded as self-implosion, but the same can be said of the opposite of 'progressives' and 'forward-thinkers'.

This world has had its fair share of draconian rulers who feel they hold the right in knowing how other should live their lives too.

The question is where and how do we find the balance?
What yardstick can be used to measure morality and accepted behavior?
No doubt.

But, no 1, if we are going to co-habit peacefully in a society we need to have terms and conditions for living together. Those terms and conditions might suppress some desires, that is life. It is fair as long as it is democratic and flexible (i.e. changeable over time as taste change). This lack of flexibility is the key fault in fundamentalist Islamic governance. They win through democracy and might decide to permanently force their philosophy on others for life.

No 2, as I said, I am against conservatism too. I am just on the case of liberalism nowadays as it is their junk that is ruling. I am only happy with a sensible standpoint. Sensible always gets the superior outcomes, it is the balance.

Fck freedom! Freedom is always abused. I am for sensible and balanced regulation.

vicade: Is there a global standard for nuisance ? Cos I'm thinking the original poster is a nuisance in my view same way I think Kim Kardashian is a nuisance but I don't think her over 16 million followers on twitter and many more that watch her show think the same.

Goldie was a good musical artist with hit singles such as Jawo Jawo,Say my Name,Don't touch my body and Skibobo. Her music videos were really good and I like her songs. Maybe Dr Kayode Fayemi does too.

The Original Poster is just being overly self righteous. Goldie could sing and she had great videos.

Its people like the original poster that will frown against indecent exposure and yet watch porn or patronize a love peddler by the side.

What's a nuisance to you may not be a nuisance to me. Its a free world not a communist society.
You have to get it in your head that it is one thing to frown at indecency in you society and a completely different thing to engage in indecency in your personal time.

This your statement is as silly as saying "Oh, if you watch por-n, why are you offended por-n is shown to your kids in nursery school. You are just a hypocrite jor!".

Yeah Goldie was no Mother Teresa. But she lived her life in the way she wanted to. She didn't steal from the treasury like Ibori, waste her boyfriend like Pistorius, or jack anybody up in traffic. Whether you like it or not, she put the country on the map by doing what she knew how to do, in her own way.

It's up to her fans to immortalize her. Even if one of them happens to be the governor's wife. It's their prerogative.
It's a pity we have so many chump-minded Nigerians.
If you are happy for your daughter to copy her life rather than people like Odeku, then you are entitled to be comfortble local leaders are publicly idolising her.

Yeah, she put Nigeria on the map more than Latunde Odeku or even Bayo Ogunlesi, but the value of what she is putting on the map should be taken in context. And good leaders should make sound judgements on the mental orientation they want to shape for their society.

The answer is obvious, the so called well meaning and educated Nigerians mostly just sits back and wants to criticise. There is nothing you can do as a well meaning and educated Nigerian when you have:

1) Democracy - All fucktards opinions matter equally.

2) Freedom of speech philosophy - Even fucktards think they have the right to talk.

3) Corrupt & Inefficient social structure - A few corrupt moneybags run the small media industry in Nigeria, which keeps the best away from shaping views and you have a few mediocre and incompetent person like Funmi Iyanda ruling the airwaves.

4) Global trends - This fucktardism is a global phenomena championed by the liberal funkies who now have unrestrianed access to several media to propagate their nice sounding, fun but absolutely cancerous rubbish.
