But who is the average joe in Nigeria ?? That is the question. ![]() I can tell you that Blackberry is not cheap compared to a Nokia, Samsung or even china phone that the common Nigerian can afford. However, Nigerians are a class conscious or "Effizy" kind of people. We will sell our souls to buy a gadget we can't afford just to be among the cool crowd. How many people do you know that have BB but no BIS subscription ?? How many people do you know that have old school BB with monochrome screens ?? Therefore, Nigerians can afford to buy the Iphone. How much is an Iphone 2G or Iphone 3G in the market nowadays ?? Its comparable to a BB Curve or Bold 9700. Therefore, price is not a factor. It will take Apple a long time to put the infrastructure in place to rival the BBM as seeing by the challenges faced by RIM just recently. Across Europe and America, i forsee a great fall in market share for BB devices as Apple & Android phones challenge them but in Obodo 9ja, BB still rules. However if the GSM carriers are to legally launch Apple products and Apple opens an Apple store in Nigeria, then we might see a challenger for the BB in the Nigerian market. |
Wow !! Nice One !! Thanks glo. I have 19.6GB of data on my sim. Time to spend that data bonus. |

ajirebi20:not really. i agree that the quality of nigerian graduates has greatly eroded but there are a few universities that churn out good candidates. i think when recruiting, companies should also look at the university that a person comes from. universities like unn, ui, abu, unilag still have some juice left in them. sorry to be bias but any hnd or graduate of a state university will have his qualifications questioned. back to the topic, my friends earn n3.1m per year as an executive trainee in gt bank. that is a good salary i think. For the public service, n80,000 per month should be the minimum for a graduate. |

puskin:Huh !!! ![]() I think you must be mistaken. I don't own a iwp server neither do i sell. I buy it like everybody else. Am just interested in expanding my I.T knowledge. Thanks anyways. |
Dual Core:Hi DC Can you share the data centre or Host you are using ?! Am curious. Thanks. |
Djcn:Thanks Djcn for that awesome list. Have googled some of the services listed above. But could still use a little explanation. Also, can any one help with the T1/E1 bandwidth thingy ?! Thanks !!! |
http://www.mainonecable.com/our-clients - Main One Cable http://www.nixp.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13&Itemid=13 - Nigerian Internet Exchange Point Check out the above links for more info. Sadly, SAT-3 website http://www.safe-sat3.co.za/ has no info at all and Glo-1 is a proprietary owned cable of Globacomm and therefore does not share information about it. |
The Good Old Days !!! ![]() Where ma peeps @ ?? Moderator, please stick this thread once more !! |
Djcn:Yes, the MTN Hynet service offers unlimited bandwidth. It is based on Wimax technology so it should be relatively stable. Please let us know how things turn out at the MTN office and current prices of the service. Thanks. |

Nice one people. Good locations also. The V/I - Lekki Axis is a good location. Most ISP's and Fibre networks have POP in that area. So, we have tackled location, connectivity and power. The use of a solar generator combined backup generators should handle the power requirements. Now, what kind of services do we offer and what type of hardware is needed ? Taking into consideration the nigerian Market. |
Djcn:Here are the locations: Lagos, Port Hacourt, Ibadan, Illorin, Benin, Warri, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi Port Hacourt is included on their site and the MTN Hynet Brochure but confirm from the local MTN office on the availability of service (coverage) in your location. Abuja, sadly, is not among. |
Djcn:Hi Djcn, Haven't been seeing you around. Welcome back. The 3 issues you mentioned are valid but i think those are of secondary importance considering the big challenge of power to the data center. Power also, will determine the location of your data centre. OK guys, instead of talking in the abstract let us try putting some flesh to our ideas. I propose that our data centre should be in Lagos for obvious reason. Its the nerve of the country. Second, finding a location in Lagos that provides dedicated power supply. If possible, i would have loved it to be located at the Eko Distribution or Lagos Independent Power Stations. With that, security and power are solved in one blow. If located at Eko Distribution, it would have access to Phase 3 Telecoms Aerial fibre network. SAT-3 access at NITEL House, Marina is also possible. The Nigerian Internet Exchange Point http://www.nixp.net/ also has a POP there making inter-connectivity possible. What do you think ?! |
nateevs:Well, when you find out how much these companies are spending on infrastructure and the hostile Nigerian environment, its not eazy. Check out the MTN Hynet Wimax Service https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-501321.0.html. Its currently available in some select cities. Many companies are deploying fibre networks but the pace is slow. check out these ISP's and their products : 1. http://www.swiftng.com/ 2. http://www.ipnxnigeria.net/ 3. http://www.directonpc.com/home.aspx As you can see, wireless is the major technology deployed by these ISP's. Directonpc however, deploys VSAT and Wimax. Infact, its the only other ISP apart from MTN Hynet which offers Wimax Technology. Will let you know more. |
