Even a cheap powmr will not behave as such You are right it sounds like a setting issue. Outback original!, me I use the clone fangpuson what he complained is common with the clone also. The cc can be in charged setting and not delivering current when battery needs it. The setting na war, wake up voltage, absorb voltage, reabsorb voltage , you have to try and get it right . |

Please, why is that so and what am I possible doing wrong? You should switch the position of the batteries, then ensure that each battery has a terminal wire. Battery A positive wire, battery B negative wire. |

queenfav: Good morning house, pls we recently did a 4 battery setup. It's Mpower 220ah indian battery. On our Kartel inverter , the Voltage at Nepa Full charge (100%) is 56.8v
On our Epever charge controller,it's 57.3v.My confusion is how to know the 50% DOD voltage for the battery so i won't allow it drain below that. This chart sums it up a bit, provided by @androblaze... I think.

There are hybrid inverters that can be operated without batteries.
And also there are micro inverters that can be connected to solar panels directly and inverts from DC to ac direct . |

Is it possible to use solar power directly without batteries? And if possible how is the best way to do it? Thanks Of course it is possible, get info on line about hybrid inverters with battery less operation.. |

isangjohnson: QUESTION. If I float my battery today and I wake up the following morning to see 60% left, charge it again and the battery get to absorption by 3am or refuse to float due to dull weather. I now use it again and wake up the following morning to see 60% left, what effect will this have to the life of the battery?
In this case, the flooded battery hasn't been fully charged for about two to three days but 50% DOD hasn't been exceeded. If you continue in this cycle without getting to float, you will eventually discharge beyond 50% DoD. To prevent story charge with mains especially during bad wheather. Your battery is your major investment take care of it. Infact this days in Lagos , it's cloudy, then sunny the most annoying is dusty solar panels due to harmattan. Try cleaning panels. |

ojeysky: The way you worded your message is what was confusing....PV planning is important hence things like weather condition needs to be put into consideration in your planning if you want to ensure your batteries are fully charge via sunlight. No you don't get, it was suggested that charging with grid is not necessary only panels is ok. And I suggested adding grid supply for back up in bad wheather. What fault is there. We are protecting our investment. I suggested an external charger since the inverter as issues. Batteries are the most expensive hardware in a set up. Now you are opening another segment, adequate or large panel arrays is not enough for bad wheather, you also need a big battery bank .with this two you can smile. They work hand in hand . |

GeorgeD1: bro, you might want to check the veracity of your statement again. what the cc can't guarantee you is max current output for a given voltage range all through the day. it can certainly guarantee you steady/constant voltage for the greater part of the day while the sun is up except for an exceptionally cloudy/rainy day. also, its not a rule of thumb to charge your battery bank with public power or nepa/phcn. some of us here have been off-grid for years now, only using the sun to charge our banks and our systems are doing extremely well. it depends on the size of your solar array and cc quality among other factors. I stated cloudy day and bad wheather, which was very common in Lagos for the past 5 months. It is just this month December we are getting clearer skies, but dusty panels with harmattan. And George majority do not have over sized solar array like you . You make do with what you have, when there sky is not clear it is no brainer for you to use nepa or gen to suppliment. |

gadgetplanetng: I always thought solar charging was better for batteries (especially LA) and Charge controllers ensure a constant voltage to the battery Controllers cant guaranty constant voltage, cloud effects , bad wheather and so on. You can carry out a little experiment charge with nepa only and discharge, also charge with controller and discharge. You will notice a difference in run time. The rule is once a while charge with nepa |

Experts can take over from here. Please when dealing with batteries never say you will do away with charging especially with nepa. It is always good once a while to charge with nepa or gen. The voltage is constant. If you can't fix the inverter get an external charger. |

This is the kind of things I don't like, both the buyer and the seller do not know the product the have. This solar lamp is very straightforward read and research before you buy. Most in the market cannot do 24 hrs continous light. That is why it is written on the remote to choose 2 or 3 hrs. |

smallsmall: What should the Voltmeter be reading, for the above test? If the the two panels is in series, he should get between 65 and 85 volts the panels are good. Remove the two wire coming into your charge controllerfrom the panels, then use voltmeter to test the wires. |

mustaphagreens: Check the distance between the cc and battery in the attached. Let me know if they are too far apart, pls. What is the brand of your panels and are they new. next time buying a panel carry a voltmeter and test voc before buying. Ideally your should output be 36 to 42v, without load. Since you have no access to the roof , test the wires coming from the panels into the cc with a voltmeter, this should tell you if your panels are okay. |

oliyeniun: Hi House,
Good evening to you all. i am a bit of a novice but very much interested in solar energy.
Please i need recommendation on good low maintenance battery brand that one can buy for aged parents. i am looking at buying Quanta, that is what i use personally and it has served me for more than two years and still counting, though DoD isnt more than 50% most of the time except in extreme conditions. the electrolyte ones we got them did not last more than one year,
Apart from quality, i am also looking for something that can last for at least five years. Heard those that use distilled water lasts longer, is this true?. if this is the case, how often does the water need to be topped up?
in order to upgrade the system, is it possible to add panels say two 350 watt panel to an existing 250 watts panel array without it affecting the setup (All 24 volts)?
Also i may need to buy a CC for the setup because the inverter has an inbuilt CC which by adding more panels, will exceed its capacity. Kindly recommend a good and not too expensive CC to use for this.
Thank you in advance for your response and also recommendation on who can supply these without hitches. God bless you all. Tubular batteries are okay, the topping of distilled water water depends on your heavy usage discharge and charging cycle. If there is no heavy discharge the water can last you for 3 to 4 months before you top it. Tubular is just like any battery system whether gel , lithium or sealed you must monitor and check regularly. so when people say babysitting tubular I laugh, all system must be monitored. Any adding distilled water to tubular is very simple. |

Assuming that the array you want to use is big enough to charge both batteries

Just don't change it over so quickly Thanks for this the knife change over, will it charge both banks evenly. |

Good day guys, I need your assistance in figuring this out. I have currently two bank system on different solar arrays. One is gel the other is tubular. The gel bank is going rogue so I have decided to upgrade this to anther tubular bank. The question is I want to charge the two banks with one single array. I know I can't parallel the 2banks because of age, does a battery switch help in this aspect to charge the 2 banks. Or any automated system for this thanks in advance. |
