Secessionist groups, the Biafra Think Tank, and The Biafra Watchdogs have threatened to attack the Nigerian National Assembly complex, Aso Rock and its Presidential villa, the Force Headquarters, Nigeria Army Headquarters, among others,
Their threats follow the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The group also threatened to kidnap all the ambassadors of the Buhari government including the former Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Burutai and keep them hostage until Nnamdi Kanu is released and President Muhammadu Buhari signs and announces Biafra.
The groups in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday and signed by 24 of their members, also directed all landlords in Biafra land to document and send names and other vital information of all their tenants to them.
The statement said, “Every landlord in Biafra land must send the names, phone numbers, pictures if possible, address of any police officers, army, DSS, EFCC, ICPC, CIVIL DEFENSE, Air Force, Navy, Custom, Muslims, be it Hausa, Fulani or any non biafra leaving in their houses,” the statement said.
“We shall inform the public and the country and airlines that gave out our leader, Kanu’s details and ensure that the staff, plane, and the country pays dearly or we will give their own country Jihadists or ISIS useful information to attack their government complex.
“Today we have agreed and decided to kidnap all the ambassadors of Buhari government including Burutai and keep them hostage till they release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and until Buhari signs and declares Biafra.
“We hereby summon all the Biafran sons and daughters working in the USA, UK, EU, AU, army, Navy, Air Force, etc, to attend an important meeting in the USA.
“If Buhari refuses to release Nnamdi Kanu, within 21 days from now, we shall attack the National assembly, Aso Rock, Police Headquarters, Nigeria Army Headquarters etc.”
Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested, allegedly in Kenya at the weekend, was taken to court on Tuesday and is currently being detained at the Department of State Service, DSS.

Tranquillity360: A group of Igbo lawyers resident in the United Kingdom has described as illegal the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government.
The legal practitioners under the auspices of the Coalition of Igbo-British Lawyers condemned the Kenyan Government for arresting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who is also a British citizen, and handing him over to the Nigerian government.
The group revealed this in a statement signed by Barrister Ebuka Okoroafor and made available to SaharaReporters on Wednesday.
According to the lawyers, the Kenyan government has violated the human rights of Kanu, who possesses both Nigerian and British passports.
“Coalition of Igbo-British lawyers condemns the illegal detention and subsequent handing over of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to the Nigerian government by the Kenyan Government.
“The Coalition of Igbo-British lawyers in a statement issued and signed by Attorney E.R Okoroafor on the 30th of June, 2021 at his Glasgow residence in the United Kingdom has condemned the illegal and archaic manner in which the Kenyan Government has acted in the illegal detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“It also condemned the subsequent handing him over to the Nigerian Government without any due process.
“It is worthy of note to mention that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu entered Kenya with his British passport, and the Kenyan government is fully aware of his citizenship status but still went ahead to perpetrate their illegal act which does not only breach the personal human rights of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu but also undermine the sovereignty of the British government,” the statement read in part.
The group also disclosed that the illegal action will be addressed at the International Criminal Court, in Hague, The Netherlands, while asking the Nigerian government to convey Kanu back to the United Kingdom before the expiration of 48 hours.
The Igbo British lawyers also stated that the failure of the Nigerian government to do so has declared war on Kanu, IPOB, and the entire Igbos.
“While this serves as a pre- action notice to the Kenyan Government as we shall be heading to the International Criminal Court to rectify the injustice done as it is trite law that injustice to one is injustice to all, we are also by this medium informing the Nigerian Government that they have 48 hours to return Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to the United Kingdom.
“And if he has any charges to answer to, they should as a nation that is governed by the constitution, pass through the legal means of filing an extradition notice as failure to do so, we shall not hesitate to term this a declaration of war on not only Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB but all Igbos generally, and this we shall vehemently resist with all apparatus of law available at our disposal.
“While all this is being done, the Nigerian government is also being warned that no bodily harm whatsoever must be done to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to avoid a total breakdown of law and order in the fast crumbling entity called Nigeria,” the Igbo–British lawyers added in the statement.

It said this in a reaction to the report by the Nigeria Police that the members of the group invaded and killed a native doctor who used to prepare charms for them.

The separatist group said this via a statement made available to SaharaReporters by its spokesman, Emma Powerful on Monday.
It also berated security agents for killing innocent civilians in the South East and blaming the group for it, adding that it was ridiculous for the police to think IPOB would still kill its native physician.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mike Abattam, Saturday, claimed that the militia wing of IPOB, Eastern Security Network killed and beheaded their native doctor and burnt his corpse after preparing an impotent charm for them.
The statement by Abattam read that the victim was Paschal Okeke from Umudim-Ukwu Orji, Awomama in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo.
Reacting on Monday, the group said, "The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been drawn to the concocted and ridiculous statement from Nigeria police that IPOB and ESN killed a native doctor preparing charms for them in Awommama Oru East LGA of Imo State, and burnt his house.
"Let us reiterate once again that neither ESN nor IPOB kills people since its formation by our indomitable leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We also do not have any native doctors as we do not believe in fetish acts. Our trust has always been in the Almighty God, Chukwu Okike Abiama.
"It is ridiculous for the Nigerian Government to associate IPOB or ESN with their moon tale narrative of a native doctor and charms. Assuming but not conceding to the laughable tale by the Nigeria police, does it make any sense that we will turn around to kill the same native doctor allegedly preparing charms for us?
"The security agents should stop blackmailing themselves thinking they are doing so against IPOB and ESN. They should stop killing and burning the houses of people and blaming their wickedness on IPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN). We do not kill the same people we are sacrificing so much to liberate. Spilling of blood is not part of our mandate."
In the statement entitled, "We don't Patronise Native Doctors, Stop Linking us with your Sponsored Murders in Biafra Land - IPOB tells Police", the group said it knew nothing about the killing of the purported native doctor.
The secessionist group also stated that its camps cannot be penetrated by the security operatives while mocking them for being unable to locate the hideouts of bandits and terrorists in the North.
"We equally want to put it on record that the purported camps destroyed by security agents are not ESN camps. The false claims were to create the wrong impression that they are working hard and probably collect more money from their stupid Government.
"The fact remains that ESN camps cannot be infiltrated or combed by the Nigeria security agents. They are only out for propaganda to deceive the gullible into thinking that ESN is vulnerable, they are not. The wicked Nigeria security agents attacked the home of a Sabbatarian in Imo sometime ago and tagged him the commander of ESN and his compound as ESN camp.
"Those they claimed a native doctor preparing charms for ESN are not IPOB or ESN security operatives. Unfortunately, it's only in Biafra land that the weak and hypocritical Nigerian security agents zealously destroy the houses of native doctors but they are unable to locate native doctors preparing charms for terrorists, bandits, and Fulani herdsmen," the statement partly read.
IPOB reiterated that it does not kill people but the blackmail keeps coming from the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, and the security forces.
It accused DCP Abba Kyari of hunting innocent residents in the South East while Yobe and Borno states where he hails from are the most terrorised places in the country.
"The public must disregard this junk news being dished out by the Nigeria police and Imo Supreme Court Administrator, Hope Uzodinma about the beheading of a native doctor from Imo state by IPOB and ESN. We know nothing about the purported incident. This is another lie concocted to further tarnish our image and set us against our people.
"It is unfortunate that super con cop DCP Abba Kyari and his team are killing Igbo youths and labelling them ESN and unknown gunmen. While, the Igbo efulefu elders and politicians have remained mute over the issue of killings, abductions, and bribery practices for the release of their innocent victims. Super con cop DCP Abba Kyari’s home town, Gujba in Yobe State, and his place of birth Maiduguri in Borno State are among the worst hit in terms of insecurity.
"If truly DCP Abba Kyari is a super cop, he should have used his widely claimed tactics in intelligence field to help dislodge Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Bandits having a field day in Northeast of Nigeria which is the region he came from (both Yobe and Borno are in the northeast of Nigeria). After all, they say 'charity begins at home'.
"Time has proven that Nigerian soldiers and police, including DCP Abba Kyari and his IRT team, cannot withstand Boko Haram, ISWAP, and bandits operating in the North-East where insurgency and insecurity are at large, why be zealous in killing innocent Biafrans, mainly of Igbo extraction?
"Nigerians must note that the zoo is seriously on the losing side of the game and they have resorted to using media propaganda to demoralise people and support what they are doing. But IPOB must not allow them we must always be at alert to counter every lies from them," the statement added.

kahal29: The Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, will complete his switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, his aide said.
The governor’s Director-General, Media, Yusuf Idris, disclosed this to journalists in Gusau on Sunday.
He said: “All is now set for our governor to move from the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) to the APC.
“All the committees that are charged with responsibility for a smooth transition of the governor have reported from their various committees that things have taken shape for the event which is scheduled to hold at a grand reception in Gusau on Tuesday, June 29.”
Idris said the governor’s defection to APC would further strengthen the party in the state.
The aide added: “Let me emphasise to you that Zamfara politicians have always been a single family and even as a PDP governor, my principal, Governor Bello Matawalle has always related very well with those in the opposition parties.
“Many people from high and low have followed the governor into the PDP in order to offer their positive advice for the growth and development of the state. Some of such persons were given top government positions and responsibilities which they held very well too. “Under this new development which will be witnessed by 18 APC governors, the governor will come along with all the National and State Assembly members as well as the PDP executives from all levels of the state.”
According to him, Governor Matawalle will be received by the Chairman of the APC National Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni.

Benin Republic is partly Yorubaland. Chad Republic is partly Kanuriland. Niger Republic is partly Hausaland. Cameroon Republic is partly Ibibio and Kanuriland.
Buhari, a Fulani, has appointed five former military leaders as ambassadors to the Nigeria's neighbouring countries. These appointments have been made deliberately to frustrate Tinubu's prospects towards the 2023 presidential election.
This is what happened.
Buhari knew that the Republic of Chad is partially Kanuriland and appointed Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar, a Fulani from the Kanuri area of Bauchi, as ambassador to the Republic of Chad.
Buhari is aware that Niger Republic is partly Hausaland and appointed Air Vice Marshal Sani Usman, a Fulani from the Hausa area of Kano, as an Ambassador to Niger Republic.
Buhari knew that the Republic of Benin is partly Yorubaland and rather than named General Abayomi Olonisakin, a Yoruba citizen, as Ambassador of the Republic of Benin, he had instead named Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai, a Fulani, as the Ambassador to the Republic of Benin and sent General Abayomi Olonisakin to Cameroon as the Ambassador to the Republic of Cameroon.
Buhari deliberately posted a Fulani from the Kanuri area of Bauchi to Chad Republic because Chad Republic is partly Kanuriland; and also deliberately posted a Fulani from the Hausa area of Kano to Niger Republic because Niger Republic is partly Hausaland. But did not post General Abayomi Olonisakin, a Yoruba citizen to the Republic of Benin, knowing fully well that the Republic of Benin is also partly Yorubaland.
Why did Buhari refuse to make General Abayomi Olonisakin an ambassador to the Republic of Benin?
Buhari plans a battle with Tinubu by 2023. He knows that if Tinubu is not granted the APC Presidential ticket as agreed, he may fight back with the military support from the Benin Republic being an extension of Yorubaland. So Buhari named Lieutenant Gen. Tukur Buratai, a Fulani, as Ambassador to the Republic of Benin to counter any military support for the Yoruba by the people of the Republic of Benin.
Buhari also posted Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas, an Ibibio, to Ghana as the Ambassador, knowing that Cameroon is partly an Ibibioland and he should have posted Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas to Cameroon and not Ghana.
Buhari should be emulated by the young Yoruba for thinking Fulani first and for practicing self-preservation.
Self-preservation is one concept the Yoruba nation lacks and hopefully if we get the support of America and Tinubu becomes the President of Nigeria from 2023, he will continue to Think Yoruba First.

That even the vaguest pretense to traditional watchdog journ toalism is in throes of death in Nigeria’s institutional news media was instantiated by the interview Arise TV’s crew had with Muhammadu Buhari last week. It was out and away a PR job that masqueraded as journalism.
The questions were feeble, obvious follow-up prompts were ignored, the questioners were diffident, and the viewer was left scratching their head about what they had just watched. It was the journalistic equivalent of a bad circus.
I am glad famous Punch columnist Sonala Olumhense clinically dissected the interview in his Sunday column and showed what a tragic professional theater the interview was. Even though I was initially inclined to comment on the poor quality of the conduct of the interview, I chose to cut the interviewers some slack because I thought managing to get reclusive and tight-lipped Buhari to talk after nearly six years of ignoring the domestic news media was praiseworthy.
But Reuben Abati’s cloying, self-aggrandizing, and mind-bendingly eulogistic post-interview column removed all doubts that Arise TV was merely conscripted as an instrument of presidential propaganda and mind management in the aftermath of the growing global reprobation that Buhari’s ill-thought Twitter ban has activated. Who better to recruit for the job than two previous presidential propagandists and mind managers?
So, in retrospect, it makes sense that the “interview” did not have the haziest resemblance to a professional journalistic interview. It was a predetermined, duplicitous public relations performance that stole and wore the garbs of journalism to give it undeserved professional legitimacy.
Now let’s look at the print version of Abati’s presidential propaganda project that he called a column. Although the interview was clearly pre-recorded and edited, which gave Buhari more verbal clarity than we have become accustomed to lately, he was still repetitive, cracked the same humorless jokes, avoided questions that required him to demonstrate familiarity with the nitty-gritty of contemporary events like the Twitter ban, and gave and got away with puzzlingly off-center responses to questions he was asked.
Yet Abati wants Nigerians to disbelieve what they saw, transport themselves to an alternate universe, and persuade themselves that Buhari was “alert, alive, informed, confident, relaxed, witty and capable of disarming humour” during the interview. This is classic gaslighting. Many people who read Abati’s column were compelled to re-watch the interview to see what they’d missed. They found that they were being psychologically manipulated by a professional mind manager.
The presidential propaganda project won’t be worth its while if it wasn’t deployed to impugn the growing evidence that Buhari is held hostage by dementia, which I have called attention to since 2018.
Abati wrote: “Commentators like Farooq Kperogi, claiming insider knowledge of Aso Villa and its actors, in seductive prose, told Nigerians many tales about how their President had succumbed to a combination of dementia and senility and government had been taken over by unscrupulous persons who call the shots in the President’s name.”
I know Abati is earning his pay, which is fine by me, but he should not promote ignorance in the process of doing so. A choreographed one-hour interaction isn’t what you need to disprove that someone has dementia. The doctor who met Buhari and alerted me to his dementia years ago also has a father with dementia. He reached out to me because he read my June 20, 2015 column titled “Criticizing Buhari Over ‘President Michelle of West Germany’ Gaffe is Ignorant.”
He said contrary to what I wrote, Buhari’s gaffes during his trip to Germany (or, as he called it, “West Germany”) wasn’t age-induced memory lapse, which everyone over the age of 40 is apt to suffer occasionally, but dementia. He listed signs to look out for, which I did and chronicled in many columns (see, for instance, my January 19, 2019 column titled “Buhari’s Physical and Mental Health is Now a National Emergency”). So, it wasn’t based on “tales” but on verifiable observations.
If Abati has no idea what dementia means, he should look it up on the web. He might learn a thing or two. Dementia doesn't mean people who suffer it can't grant an interview. But it means even when they grant one, they can't answer the questions they're asked if the questions are very current, as Buhari often does.
The short-term memory of people with dementia is often weak and unreliable, so they rely on old memories, which makes them boringly repetitive. That's why Buhari keeps saying the same things since 2016.
In 2020, when a journalist asked him in an impromptu interview about the probes of the EFCC and the NDDC, he started talking about Single Treasury Account. Garba Shehu was caught on camera frantically telling the journalist who interviewed Buhari to cut the interview. It wasn’t a “tale.” It did happen. And the evidence exists on the Internet. There were many such examples even in his Arise TV interview.
Having dementia also means that while the sufferers may have occasional moments of clarity, they are usually mostly lost. And that describes Buhari. Why do you think he failed to show up at Government Science Secondary School in Kankara in the aftermath of the kidnap of schoolboys there even though he was in Katsina at the time?
Why do you think he failed to show up at the funeral of the Chief of Army Staff even though he had no other engagement that day and was only a few minutes away from the venue of the funeral?
When COVID-19 became a pandemic in March 2020 and there was public pressure for Buhari to address the nation, he was absent. When his minders couldn’t resist the pressure any longer, they pre-recorded a speech that lasted only a couple of seconds in which Buhari mispronounced COVID-19 as "Kovik one nine"! As I pointed out at the time, there was no sentient, living being on this earth— and certainly no world leader—who didn’t know that there was a global pandemic tipping over the world that was called the new coronavirus or COVID-19.
Again, during the #EndSARS revolt, which convulsed the foundations of Nigeria, Buhari was absent. Then on October 13, 2020, a video surfaced on the Internet of Lagos State governor Jide Sanwo-Olu briefing Buhari on what the Inspector General of Police was doing about the EndSARS protests. Buhari stood like a breathing, insentient mannequin and intermittently laughed vacuously.
More disturbingly, when Sanwo-Olu said the IGP recommended that governors set up commissions of inquiry into SARS brutality, Buhari interrupted him. “I said that,” he said and looked at Ibrahim Gambari, his Chief of Staff, for assurance. “I said that in my speech.” He hadn’t given any speech at the time.
Recall, too, that when Buhari visited the family house of the late President Shehu Shagari to commiserate with them over the death of their patriarch, he didn’t have the presence of mind to write anything on the condolence register; he just signed his name and couldn’t even get the date right.
And he also appended his signature to a memo to then Senate President Bukola Saraki appointing two justices to the Supreme Court in which his first name was spelled as “Muhammdu.” People who are close to Buhari know he has (or used to have) an obsessive-compulsive urge to spell his name as “Muhammadu.” That he missed the misspelling of his name and appended his signature to it pointed to diminished sentience.
Plus, dementia also sometimes comes with a degeneration of the muscles, which explains why Buhari falls without explanation, as we saw during the 2019 campaigns in Lokoja and in Kaduna. His close aides who caught him when he fell in Lokoja didn’t seem shocked, which indicated that they were already habituated to it.
A 45-minute propaganda interview can’t erase all the evidence of dementia we see in Buhari.
Anyone who wants to believe that Buhari has no dementia and that he is the picture of perfect mental and cognitive health because he didn’t drool during a choreographed PR show called an interview is free to do so. But it takes nothing from the truth of his progressive mental degeneration and his unfitness to be president of a complex, developing country like Nigeria with no solid institutions to withstand a dementia-plagued president.

Q: What role did you play in the presidential election of MKO Abiola? A: We worked hard for Yar’Adua. The SDP platform and the Yar’Adua machine were a phenomenon at that particular time. We had won the majority in the National Assembly. I wanted to become the Senate President because we secured all the seats in the West and we had 15 senators and Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim, a brilliant politician, mobilised some of the senators in the North; Chuba Okadigbo in the East and Albert Legogie in the so-called South-South. Iyorchia Ayu of the Middle-Belt was very active at that particular time. We had good leaders. Olu Falae was in contention, Biyi Durojaiye also.
We had Olusegun Osoba and the rest of them as governors then. We didn’t pay attention to Lagos and didn’t miss anything. We were not looking at any governor to be politically involved. I was just running my vision. I put my talents into being a strategist and I had got the endorsement of 38 out of the 56 senators belonging to the SDP to become the Senate President. So when the leadership caucus of the party met, the problem of the late Yar’Adua and others had crystallised.
It was then believed that Falae or anyone else among the presidential contenders would be the party’s flag bearer after the disqualification of Yar’Adua. They banned the old politicians and asked that the new breed should come forward. Falae, Olabiyi Durojaiye and others were clamouring that the opportunity should be given to the West. Yar’Adua was very consistent about the South-West and the North-West working together. I was confronted in Abuja, because I was already prepared to be the Senate President. I had 15 senators with me and had gotten the endorsement of the majority of other senators. Senators Kanti Bello (he was my partner in the struggle), Kazaure, Kashim Ibrahim, Lawan Buba, Mogaji Abdullahi and a host of others had already formed a caucus that would work for my emergence as the Senate President.
When we met at the leadership level, the late M.S Buhari asked us if we could honestly say that we must take the senate presidency? Okadigbo might be interested and would rather have the East produce the Senate President; the North, the Vice-President; and the presidency in the South-West because they had blocked Yar’Adua.
My position was that a bird in hand cannot fly away; you have to tie it properly. As if it was a prediction that I had seen, that thing was a banner headline on The Punch’s front page at that time. I was adamant. Falae, Durojaiye and the rest of them came to me and said that the leadership of South-West would want the presidency and we could not take the two positions.
We had to make a sacrifice. My position was then that if your child would go to the class and come first among 30 students, to whom do you give the best prize in the house?
At the stage, I said I wanted to become Senate President, they said I should review my ambition. I made them realise that out of our 15 senators, the North-Central contributed 12 senators, so I said there must be a reward system for the support and loyalty. I told them that if I were to give up the ambition, the position must go to the zone that contributed the highest number of senators to my support base.
Ayu was among the 38. Meanwhile, A.T Ahmed was on the other side. We had internal caucuses and out of 56, 38 of us bonded together. A.T Ahmed and Okadigbo wanted to be senate president. But it was being rumoured in the newspapers that Babangida wanted to remain in power and that Bola Tinubu – because of IBB’s closeness to our family – would be one of those that would be used for IBB to stay. They didn’t know what I stood for. I was laughing.
We were saying the military must exit and we were angry because Yar’Adua had been disqualified. We didn’t even want IBB to stay.
While that was on, Abiola came onto the scene and showed interest in the presidency. Suddenly, I found him in my hotel room with Jubril Martins-Kuye. I realised he was an accountant like myself and I told him he had been severally abused for being anti-Awolowo. He said no, and that he would go to Ikenne.
I told him that he should forget it if he was anti-Awolowo. When you talked to MKO about the country, you saw his vision and everything. If you were well educated and serious about the country, you would be convinced that he meant well. If you were to do an analysis about who was likely to be less corrupt and whose vision would be consistent for the nation, then you would agree with MKO.
We made Ayu the Senate President. Yar’Adua and Atiku got along with us on the choice of Ayu, while Kingibe was very flexible on it. We warned them that we would concede it to the NRC if they refused to let us choose our candidate since they would not be there with us. That was how Ayu won and I became one of the most powerful and influential senators. I was the chairman of the Appropriation, Finance, Banking and two other committees in the Senate.
We started working for MKO to emerge the candidate and we worked hard for him. My corporate experience and the strategic planning I had was brought to bear on what I was doing at the time.
Q: Babangida wanted to use the Senate to stay. How did the Senate respond to that? A: Ayu, myself and some others knew what the military was up to. The military is politically smart. Don’t underestimate any military officer when it comes to gathering information on any activity. We got wind of their plan and we took a very strong position that the military had to hand over. Equally, the pressure from the media against the continued stay of the military in power was strong. The wind of change was blowing in the direction of a civilian government.
Bagangida made several promises and even declared in a broadcast that the military would disengage from politics in August 1993 and would hand over to a democratically elected president.
So, we strategised and organised a successful joint session of the National Assembly to reach a resolution against military stay. It was very auspicious at the time, because no president had emerged. The NRC and the SDP agreed that they wanted the military to go and, with no apparent successor, the political situation was fluid. In a motion moved by a House of Representatives member and supported by a senator, at the joint session of the National Assembly, it was resolved that the military must hand over to a democratically elected civilian president by August.
The Senate President allowed robust contributions from members at the session, which was devoid of party sentiments and affiliations, and we all jointly agreed to the resolution. That was in 1992, before the presidential election in 1993. Both SDP and NRC were expecting victory. We just wanted a civilian government in place. The resolution was seriously binding because the Babangida administration would have no moral authority to stay, though there were talks about diarchy. It just had to go. So when eventually they brought no-go areas and restricted legislators from discussing certain issues, we went to court.
We were determined that democracy must be instituted in the country and that it could not be headed by any military man.
To be honest with you, Ayu was a good leader. I believe I was the only person with computer literacy and I had a big Toshiba laptop and I was churning out all sort of media releases against the continuation of military administration. It was a challenging period for this country and the international community held on to that resolution.

Nigerians React To First-Class Graduate's Claim Buhari Rejected List Of Scholarship Beneficiaries Because There Was No Northerner First-class graduates of institutions across Nigeria were shortlisted to take the Presidential Special Scholarship (PRESSID) designed by former President Goodluck Jonathan. Buhari kicked against the list because he considered it as an agenda of the South.
Nigerians on social media have continued to react to claims by a first-class graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and current doctoral student of the University of Toronto, Chidozie Ojobor, that President Muhammadu Buhari sacrificed merit for federal character upon his election.
Ojobor had revealed how he and several other first-class graduates of institutions across Nigeria were shortlisted to take the Presidential Special Scholarship (PRESSID) designed by former President Goodluck Jonathan, exclusively for first-class Nigerian graduates who wanted to further their studies in any university across the world.
Presidency According to him, he had taken the examination with 16 of his colleagues who were also Graduate-Assistants at the UNN and being a computer-based test, each of them got to know their scores immediately.
He said in February 2015, the list of 101 successful candidates shortlisted for the scholarship programme was published in the national dailies.
Ojobor said he had already applied to Princeton University, Imperial College London and University of Toronto and had high hopes of clinching the $250, 000 (about N50,000,000 at the time at the rate of $1/N200) worth of scholarship.
He said there was, however, a twist in fate when Jonathan lost the presidential election to Buhari. Ojobor said shortly after Buhari was sworn in, he complained that there was no single northerner on it.
He alleged that Buhari kicked against the list because he considered it as an agenda of the South, which made him and others to lose such a huge opportunity.

Social media user, Adeyeye Olabode, claimed he knows about the scholarship scheme and the role President Buhari played. He stated further that nepotism will stunt the growth of the country.
He wrote, “The truth is that the North is still backward with education, and they must not drag the south backwards too. I know about the scholarship, and I knew so many beneficiaries of it until Buhari came and stopped everything.
“Things like this will not make Nigeria develop because we are talking about academic excellence, and they are still thinking about the quota system. In foreign countries, we have seen how so many Nigerians are excelling academically. How many are from the North? Anything that requires merit, let's forget about dominance again.”
For Kelvin Igwe, merit has always been sacrificed not only in the academic world but even in other aspects of the economy.
He wrote: “Any nation that short-changes merit for quota system will fail. For instance, the federal high court judge nominated for ICC that doesn't have basic knowledge of court proceedings, in the midst of eminently qualified judges.”
Adegbola Oluwatoyin said, “How can a people who have no regard for excellence and education produce first-class? It's obvious in the way Nigeria is being governed. Can't you see mediocrity everywhere? They can never give what they do not have. Religion does not produce excellence, they should embrace education unto transformation and abandon fanaticism and extremism.”
David Ologun opined that the Northern region is causing underdevelopment for the country.
He wrote, “Do you now expect a country that is run by nepotism and mediocrity to develop and advance... Anyone saying that north and south should be governed under one system of government should consider himself or herself as a terrorist... The north is dragging every region back.”
Emeka Okoye sympathetically wrote: “My brother, I'm personally sorry about what you people went through. It's most unfortunate that we found ourselves in this mess. As you can see, the man who robbed you people of that opportunity, is a man who never had any certificate. He never went to school and as such, he doesn't know the value of education. He didn't know the meaning of losing a country's best to another country. We are already suffering from the effect of capital flight caused by a bunch of mediocres in the position of power.”
Chris Chukwuchebe said, “Simply because his own Northern brothers didn't pass the exam. So the position of a successful candidate was eventually given to a failure. Nigeria will never move forward.”
Bamituni Abamu explained, “What people have to understand was that this scholarship was different. It was based on merit for first-class students who were required to take an exam. No different cut off mark.
This means even first-class graduates from the North also took the exam but unfortunately failed. There was no nepotism in this. It was based on merit and not the quota system or federal character. The only nepotism came from Buhari. Those students were supposed to come back and help build Nigeria but Buhari has set us back once again with his nepotistic and bigoted views.”
