TheBigUrban2: You ignored all the other points to defend blueband butter? Are you that local?

You also forget that your kitchen can reach the same temperature if you lock all the windows and doors on a sunny day in Nigeria. Its even worse if you have a sun roof/skylight in your kitchen.

#Say no to blueband.
#refrigerate your butter
I totally agree with fact that butter should be refrigerated. Nigerian butters don't do well without being kept in the fridge.

Naturally, I hate fats and oily foods, which means it's mayonnaise for me.

By the way, are you an anti-blueband fan?
Romance › Re: Do Love Happen Outright Or We Tend To Grow In Love ? by Sanchez01(m): 9:56pm On Sep 02, 2014
I take my cue from Andrew Marvell's poem, "To His Coy Mistress", where he described his love for the mystery lady as 'vegetable love'... The expression 'Fall in Love' is totally wrong! We don't fall in love, rather, we grow in love. We appreciate beauty, personality, similarities and the differences in others with each passing day. Love takes time, it is not arrived at. One beautiful reason why love is considered ultimate is because it is infinte; we appreciate it more with each day.

Those who fall in love fall out right back, while those who grow in it remain in it. Enough with my fantasies...

Lomaxx I sincerely doubt it. It is mission Impossible. And for those abusing the word 'friendzone', you need to understand that you cannot zone someone you've once shared some special kind of bond with. Keeping exes as besties are somewhat impossible. Such most end with some 'friends with benefits, getting jealous as if something true is happening between you two, desiring sickly attention all over again and bonded to the person emotionally. It is a time bomb waiting to explode if one ventures it. It is however normal if both stay as friends, just friends and not besties. It's a complicated mess if you ask me.

marieolae: when you guys say that all girls love money too much, now u understand abi?
Dearie, you honestly need to understand, I find it difficult to make collective assumptions. It is normal for us to use words like 'some' or 'most'. Some girls, or most girls love money excessively is not the same as ALL girls. Of course, there must be some exceptions to it. Similarly with what the OP complained of, I find it rather funny that she mentioned that GUYS, which means ALL, are rude. I'm not and so are most guys.

Alleluia: m nt generalizin cry
Alright. To answer your question, typically a guy would never describe a lady as one, and just in case it happens, it could mean two things:

1. The guy in question is the abusive type.
2. The lady must have done some that must have pained the guy to the marrow, hence, his response would be better.

I just don't see any sense in a guy describing a lady as one for no reason. We think too, you know?

I knew she fell for it seriously because when i was about to go back to school she started acting strange. This seems irrelevant we are from two diffrent backgrounds., she is scared what if after waiting.for me my parents refuses to allow us walk the walk. She also scared of what if i change my mind after she has waited fir so long am graduating next year tjo i intend taking another degree in Newcastle the following year. So i told her she could date another boy, i usually send her money from time to time and we quarrel because of this offurtunate situation weve found ourselves, i dnt want to be selfish by telling her to wait when am not entirely sure of myself
I honestly don't understand your write-up. You're graduating with this kind of Englishhuh You need to work on this. With that being said, you want your girlfriend, a lady you met on a social network to hate other guys? It does not only sound ridiculous, it is ridiculous. You may be the possessive type, but still, it doesn't work that way. You told her to date some other guy and you are here complaining? You seriously need to get your onions right. For me, both of you are young and cannot manage a relationship, particularly a long distance one, judging by what you asked her to do. You are indeed confused.
Sports › Man Utd Lead Record Premier League Summer Spend Of Over €1 Billion by Sanchez01(op): 12:25pm On Sep 02, 2014
https://static.goal.com/451400/451467_heroa.jpg
Deadline day saw the Premier League reach a record €1 billion spend on transfers this summer.

The huge numbers were led by Manchester United, whose huge outlay of €200 million on seven players was the highest single-window spend yet by a British club.

It included a €75m deal to recruit winger Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, the highest fee ever spent by any British team, and a late loan deal for Monaco's Radamel Falcao.

The Colombia international sealed a sensational switch to Old Trafford after a long summer of intense interest from the likes of Carlo Ancelotti's Champions League winners and Premier League holders Manchester City.

According to analysis from Deloitte’s Sports Business Group, summer spending is up by almost €250m on 2013's total of €796m, which was at the time €164m higher than ever before.

"This summer transfer window is one of records," said Dan Jones, a partner in the Sports Business Group.

"There are a number of factors contributing to this summer's spend, including the showcase for global talent a World Cup provides. However, one of the main drivers of Premier League spending continues to be the increased resources clubs now have as a result of improved broadcast deals.

"Last season the average Premier League club received around €31.6m more in central broadcast distributions than they did in 2012-13, which helped fuel a record transfer window last summer. We are again seeing Premier League clubs use these resources to contribute to what is a new record this summer."

Durst: Hello, I'm a regular nairalander but I had to use this my dormant account to make this post for some personal reasons.

I met this girl in school and we've been very close friends for months. I never actually had plans to date her or suchlikes. I just wanted us to be friends, Nothing more. Nevertheless, the unexpected happened! We started catching feelings for each other. I didn't see that coming until now.
We got very close that we share and discuss everything bothering each other, we are always seen together, notwithstanding we're in different departments. She makes it so obvious that she likes me and some of her other male friends have wrongly assumed we're already in a relationship. We spend so much time together that it's rarely difficult to see me when there is free period without her with me or nearby.
I haven't been in a relationship for a long time cos I don't just date any girl. There used to be a lot of female folks in my life until I got quite close with her. She's blinded me from noticing other girls and I'm kinda glad about it - I'm now more focused and I don't look out to impress other girls now, we're free with each other so no need for such.
The heartbreaker is that, while we were conversing, I talked about her she makes me feel and she said she feels the same "but" we can't date. She said she's afraid it would destroy our friendship! That her attitude would drastically change and we wouldn't enjoy the relationship. I never actually asked her out but I guess she felt that would come sooner, not later.
How do I convince her? How do I make her understand that nothing would change when we become exclusive? I'm dispirited cos I don't feel this way with any other girl I've met. She stands out, She's the embodiment of the kind of woman I would wanna be with.

Thanks for reading, it's quite long but I need all the help I can get, hence, the explicit narration.
Unfortunately, you might not be able to change her mind. As it is, she values your friendship beyond every other thing and as it stands, it might truly destroy a lot. Some will come here and claim you have been friendzoned, this is not true. She sees you only as a friend and not beyond that. You might be zoned eventually if you insist. I suggest you respect her wish, stay as a friend and if you believe you cannot cope, keep an arm length from her. Que sera sera. I totally understand what you're going through.

sholay2011: I agree with most of your points. Your writeup is quite organised. Thumbs up.

We're getting there sha, I believe. But my own problem with our storylines or stories is not just that they are predictable (many hollywood movies are, especially book adaptations and biopics), but the way they are told matters more. You can give the same log lines to two scriptwriters and the scripts they would produce would be VERY different, in many aspects, and one script could be quite good and the other...trash.

That's what I'm still trying to unravel and learn as a scriptwriter. 'Silver Linings Playbook' could have been the usual romcom, but the way it was told made us connect deeply with the characters, laugh and cry with them, and even feel their pain. We need to sharpen how we relate our stories in aspects such as dialogue, symbolism, artistic descriptions, interweaving of characters, arrangement etc.

And please sir, we get genres for nollywood.
I'd gladly become a fan for doing something different from what we have. And about genres, we have:

Action

Comedy

Adventure

Biography

Animation

Family

Fantasy

Crime

Mystery

Sport

Horror

Romance

Drama

Mystery

Documentary

Film-Noir

Musical

War

Thriller

History

Sci-Fi

(Western)

Of all the genres I mentioned above, excluding Western, which I consider irrelevant in Nigeria, which of those genres do we have?

tonyayo1: O.P, nice write up...

But my question is, why do Nigerians judge NW using our bad products. You're not the first to say it and you can never be the last, I've retired from criticising the old NW because me and you can't change it or will I say change them the producers, 'cause they know that they suck but refuses to change 'cause they're making their money and we the Nigerians are the ones patronising them, the producers that understand what making good movies is all about diverts to new NW, the examples you gave about storytelling, character wise etc are all 100% visible in old NW movies, but can hardly be seen in new NW, you can't see aki and paw paw playing those roles you made mentioned in new NW, the people that doesn't know what is happening in the industry are the ones criticising them 'cause they're still watching crappy movies. If you really want to know the people that criticises NW thinking they know something about the industry, just ask them whether they know O.C Ukeje, Anthony Monjero etc the Actor that were made via new NW. The only way to stop these mediocrity in the industry are 1., we should stop watching any direct to video movies tagged old NW, which is impossible or 2., building upto a thousand cinemas in Nigeria, then you'll see how the crappy movie will die off instead of having 99% crappy movies, it'll be the other way round.
I quite agree with you mentioned but is O.C. Ukeje the only one in the industry? If you read through my post carefully, you'd discover that I made mention of Kunle Afolayan; so far, he has been the most promising producer around. The reason for this is very simple, he has moved from the conventional way of a stereotyped industry to doing the industry proud. Still, Kunle Afolayan cannot do it alone, other producers must repent. And about the cinemas, let's talk about the movies first? How many of our movies are cinema worthy? How many of our movies are worth watching more than ones? Let's talk about this first before thinking of creating more cinemas.

mumumugu: stop complaining, be the change

try venturing into movie industry to effect a change.
You expect me to carry enter into the Entertainment industry because I want a change? Well, this is how it works, that I highlighted these flaws are because I want a change. This is why critiques exist. I'm not saying my points are perfect and totally complete, though I believe that we must, and by we I mean those directly involved, make a change. I pay to see these movies. You expect me to suffer for what I pay for? No! The answer is simple, the industry needs total reformation and as an audience, what I have done is called FEEDBACK. I need not venture into one to make a change. Bollywood and Hollywood do not need me to tell them how to blow our minds with their movies. Our producers need to be sensitive. And just in case you know any of them, please, help tell them to help us make our eyes better.

THE FEMALE PERSPECTIVE
https://i.imgur.com/mFqhw.jpg

When a female meets a male in the wild she automatically puts the male on one of two ladders (fig.1). While this choice is a subconscious decision one must be aware that this process does occur. Before this point the male does not reside on either of the two ladders because he is not important enough to even consider. The property of these two ladder classifications that should be clear is the fact that they are two separate classifications with little to no overlap. The main factor that determines what ladder a male is classified into is attraction(2).

FRIENDSHIP LADDER

Once a male has been put onto the friend ladder his chances of transferring over to the lover ladder become very unlikely. It is possible for him to become better friends with the female therefore advancing towards the top of the friend ladder, but as the male advances towards the top of the friend ladder the gap between the friend ladder and the lover ladder grows larger. Because of this, as friendship builds the shock a female will feel when a male eventually confesses his love for her grows in proportion to time.

While it is still possible for a guy to transfer from the friend ladder to the lover ladder it is as close to impossible as one could get. Rare cases where a friendship developed into an intimate relationship(3) include factors such as a gut level attraction between both parties before the friendship began (therefore really being classified as a long-term secret crush, which is put on the bottom rungs of the lover ladder as opposed to being a part of the friend ladder), or a guy completely reinventing himself into a completely different person (see the film Just Friends). Other outside factors such as a relationship between friends being developed into a friendship merely because of the fact that the female was already involved in a physical/intimate relationship with another male at the time the friendship had begun.

With that said I must re-state something. TRANSFER FROM THE FRIEND LADDER TO THE LOVER LADDER IS AS CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE AS ONE COULD GET.

LOVER LADDER

I use “Lover ladder” as a blanket term to describe relationships ranging from crushes to “going steady,” and every “complicated” relationship in between. This is because the lover ladder is much more complex than the friend ladder. Similar to the friend ladder, if a guy has been put on the lover ladder the likelihood of him being put on the friend ladder is very unlikely. The closer the guy is to the bottom of the ladder the greater the possibility of him being able to transfer over to the friend ladder (though it is usually the female’s choice to put him on the friend ladder or the “Just Friends” zone).

Romance › The Relationship Ladder Theory by Sanchez01(op): 5:12pm On Sep 01, 2014
Here’s an interesting concept in the dating world, The Ladder Theory. The ladder theory is ultimately quite simple: men have one ladder, women have two ladders. The ladder represents our willingness to “date” someone. For instance, the higher someone is on the ladder, the more likely we are to date them. The lower they are, unfortunately, the less likely we would ever consider pursuing a relationship with them.

If both male and female had one ladder, it would make things infinitely easier! However, girls have both a friend’s ladder and a “potential” ladder, whereas guys put all their cross gender relationships on the same ladder.

The Ladder Theory, though, somewhat similar to the 'Frienzone' theory, is different.

Basically, when a girl meets Guy X and Guy Y, she quickly evaluates both and then determines that Guy X is a guy she sees as someone she could “hook up” with while Guy Y is a guy she would never hook up with. As a result of these conclusions, each guy finds a spot on their respective ladders. Guy X is on the “potential ladder”, and Guy Y is on the “friends ladder”.

A Guy trying to get off a lady's 'Frienship' Ladder

NB: Being 'Friendzoned' comes in when a guy expects to get off a lady's friendship ladder onto her her relationship ladder.
