[s] Kobojunkie:[/s] And I thought I was engaging someone who will respond with Scripture back ups? Humour me a minute? Is there a God Head? If yes, does the statement of Christ invalidate the authority or role of the God Head when he is only the Son? The Old Testament was not exclusively for the Children of Israel but I doubt I would want waste my time. JESUS SAID HE WAS SENT ONLY SENT TO THE LOST SHEEP OF ISRAEL IN Matthew 15:24. Question is, if this is the case, why then do you worship Him when He isn't sent to you since you are not an Israelite? ![]() Truth is, I meet the "New Covenant-only" people like you periodically and I see the same glaring pattern of selective amnesia and what-suits-me mindset. |
Kobojunkie:Isaiah 33:22 I take it this is coming from a drunk? One obvious and loud teaching of the Scripture is moderation. If it is in excess, then it is bad, no matter how good it might come off as. Galatians 5:21: envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Isaiah 5:11: Woe to those who rise early in the morning that they may pursue strong drink, Who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them! Proverbs 20:1: Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise Habakkuk 2:15: “Woe to you who make your neighbors drink, Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk So as to look on their unclothedness! Titus 1:7: For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain,The Scripture has never hidden the fact that alcohol causes one to lose or lowers one's inhibitions as in the case of Lot (Gen 19:32) and several others. Drinking isn't the issue but getting drunk is. There is a reason some SPECIAL PEOPLE WERE MANDATED TO STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL. Nazarites were barred from drinking alcohol just as Levites. These set of people were special to God and they didn't choose to stay away from alcohol on their own. It was God's very own instruction to them. That should mean something to anyone who chooses to not just worship God from a distance. By default, most Churches today are referred to as 'Nazarite Churches' and its workforces as Levites. And guess what? Jesus Himself was a Nazarite, and so was Samson and John the Baptist and I choose to believe they weren't born as one by chance. That said, the word "Nazarite" comes from the Hebrew word 'nazir' meaning "consecrated" or "separated" and its origin is found in Numbers 6:1–21. You can't say you are God's chosen people, a royal priesthood and all of those without being separated or consecrated. This was why the Apostles advocated staying away from it, which many sects latch on to today. The why is because it is almost difficult to apply moderation to alcohol and the best way of staying out of trouble with it is to 'FLEE' its appearance. And by extension, to today's Christians - Nazarite Churches with Levites priests and worshippers. And no, JESUS WAS NOT THE LAWGIVER, GOD IS. Jesus never came to abolish the law as He was never the one who handed it in the Torah, even though He was much around. He said it Himself He had only come to fulfill it. So where you got your own Lawgiver-Jesus from is beyond me. Anyways, This is the Nazarite vow where THE LAWGIVER HANDED THE NAZARITE LAW TO MOSES in Numbers 6:1–21: https://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0406.htm#1 Happy reading. |
sonofnos:Not you. I was responding to the person who claimed a defective device as a laptop can pass unnoticed for over a month. |
sonofnos:This, right here, is the cause. Try draining extra powers on the laptop by removing the battery and holding down the power button for over 1 minute. For now, ignore the videos and exercises you've tried. |
stanliwise:A bad laptop will show its true colour within a month. Look at it this way, mishandling got the OP here. I got my back up laptop (a Lenovo T420) from a Nairalander I had never seen his handle until someone mentioned him. Chatted with him and sent him the money for the laptop. We met without introduction, got my laptop and walked away. The laptop in itself is a UK used laptop and I got it for N32,000. My point? Vendors are not necessarily demons or demonic just because what one bought from them went bad. OP's laptop overheated and went off, shikena. It is not because the vendor who sold it to him sold him a defective laptop. Bad devices can't be managed no matter how you view it. And a month is too much to manage one. |
sonofnos:Overheating happened. The fact that it got so hot before going off indicates overheating. Unfortunately, I can't tell the extent of the damage it has done to your laptop. One thing I have come to know over the years is that laptops shut down when they overheat so as to save them from taking further damage. Your processor might be fried, or maybe not. Your cooling fan might have been bad, or maybe not, or you must have placed your laptop on a bed/mattress, which is most likely the culprit. Typically, removing the battery for a while then press then hold the power button down often does the trick but it might not in the event that something as your processor is damaged. Anyways, you might need to take it to computer village to have those guys look at it. You might not necessarily need to get another MB if the impact isn't so severe. Also, everyone who owns a laptop should at least have thermal paste. It is too cheap not to have one. PS: Before you take your laptop out for repairs, try to clean the fan. I mean the dismantle-it-type-of-cleaning. How you didn't know your laptop was getting hot is what I don't understand. |
Liberate Nigeria from the misrule and inefficiency of Buhari? |
CSTRR:If Tinubu runs, he won't lose. |
An Asiwaju/El Rufai ticket will spark a religious debate. It looks feasible but can't fly, not with the perceived bias in this government. This is a dead-on-arrival ticket. |
Righteousness2:This does not in any way address Reno's statement. Indeed, alcohol isn't a sin as the Scripture never condemned it. You could have made your argument more reasonable but this...this is way off. Alcohol isn't evil. Excessive alcohol is, as with most things. And no, I don't drink. |
Cheating is that one line you must not cross with me. It is almost over the day suspicion sets in. |
owobokiri:Go and watch the recently released "The Dissident" and you will realize Shekau is a saint compared to the demon in the guise of a crown prince. |

samsard:Not sure I heard them say they make such profit. Making sales of about N20k-N30k is a bit different from making profits. I believe they are two different things. If they buy a bag for 50k, chances are that they might make much, or not, depending on how the bag is stuffed. I don't doubt their daily sales figure at all, considering the prices of the cups or bowls they sell with. Strangely, true money is in the least of things we expect. |
yusluvad:I don't doubt it. If you watched the video and saw how much those guys sell per bowl or cup, then you'll see the figure is realistic. The buy the grasshopper for N50k per bag and sell the biggest bowl for N2,100 while there is another for N300. Not sure it is exaggerated. |
One minute, grasshopper, then next, 'grasscutter'. |
Hello, StarFire08. I promised I was going to get back with the analysis last night but I couldn't, no thanks to overworking. For that, I am sorry. Anyways, I studied the poem already and it is not what it looks, going by the title (typical of metaphysical poets). So here is my analysis. Analysis of John Donne's "The Ecstasy" The word ‘ecstasy’: from the Greek ekstasis, ex stasis, literally ‘outside standing’ – i.e. standing outside of oneself, or apart from oneself. A truly ‘ecstatic’ experience is always, to some extent, an out-of-body experience (OBE). Thus, Donne's "The Ecstasy" is about the separation of the body and soul, which seems odd at first, since elsewhere his poetry explores the idea that the soul and the body are, in fact, one. Typically, the idea of ecstasy with metaphysical poets will most likely suggest a provocative, sensual body of work but Donne's deviation from that 'norm' seems odd, different and surprising at first glance. Donne begins ‘The Ecstasy’ which runs into nineteen quatrains with a typically passionate scene as the backdrop for the lovers to embrace and experience the 'ecstasy'. The setting is natural, very calm and quiet. The scenery is described in erotic terms: the riverbank is "like a pillow on a bed"; it also is "pregnant". The reference to pillow, bed and pregnancy suggest sexuality, though the poet says that their love is 'asexual'. Indeed, the image of asexual reproduction of the violent plant is used to compare the lovers' only 'propagation'. It is springtime, and violets are in bloom. It is pastoral settings were lovers are sitting together, holding each other's hand and looking intently into each other's eyes. Their eyes meet and reflect the images of each other, and their sights are woven together. In the fourth and fifth stanzas, Donne tells us that, while their two bodies remain motionless there, like ‘statues’ as they sit holding hands on the bank, their two souls are in negotiations, like two, equal great armies. In the sixth and seventh stanzas, Donne says that if anyone had been nearby to hear their souls speaking to each other, he would have experienced an exchange of souls so pure and refined that he would have left richer than he was before. Donne then says that hearing their souls speak to each other has made plain the nature of their feelings for each other: they didn’t know before, but their souls have made it plain. But Donne doesn’t want their souls to do all the talking: he wants to be joined in physical union (‘But O alas, so long, so far / Our bodies why do we forbear?’). Their souls being joined is all well and good, but to propagate and have children, their bodies need to come together too. ‘The Ecstasy’ thus turns into a poem of seduction and even, on one level, a 'carpe diem' or ‘seize the day’ poem: 'And if some lover, such as we, Have heard this dialogue of one, Let him still mark us, he shall see Small change, when we’are to bodies gone.' Such a conclusion chimes with another of Donne’s poems, ‘The Flea’, more than we might at first expect. In making sense of the sexual connotations in the work, the suggestion of what happens when men and women join their bodies together (‘pregnant’) is transposed to the bank on which the lovers sit, while the word ‘breast’ lurks behind the lines without actually being spoken, thanks to the pressure of the ‘swell’d’ bank, the mention of the ‘head’ of the violet, and the rhyme of rest/best. It is almost as if Donne’s thoughts are already on the bodily and physical, even while he and his beloved sit there simply holding sweaty hands. Donne tries to convey to the readers that the foundation of spiritual love is the physical attachment; the eyes serve as a gateway to the soul. Moreover, the physical union has produced an even stronger spiritual bond that is far more powerful than each individual's soul. Donne refers the violet to tell us that the fusion of the lover's soul produces a new "abler soul" like the violet, which doubles its vigor when it is grafted together with another. Then the lovers are now able to seek spiritual pleasure rather than purely physical pleasure. In this union, the two souls find strength like a violet when it is transplanted. As such, the single united soul is able to grow with new energy. The united soul is perfect, unchanging and also with new energy. The united soul is perfect, unchanging and also transcends the "defects of loneliness", or the single soul. The two lovers now understand that true love is the result of their physical attachment provoking spiritual union. Souls are spiritual beings. They move with the help of the bodies. The body is the medium of contact of the two souls. Therefore, the lovers turn to their bodies and try to understand the mystery of love. The body is the medium to experience love. So spirits must act through bodies. If love is to be free, it requires physical as well as spiritual outlets. The persona proceeds to question why religious institutions have imposed blind thoughts diving the body and soul (most religion, particularly Christianity is of the opinion that man is a tripartite being, consisting of the body, soul and spirit). The poem is also a criticism of the conventional idea of love that supports the separation of the bodies, and hence the souls. He makes an appeal to his readers to nourish their souls through their bodies and reach towards the point of extreme joy, or 'ecstasy'. As a metaphysical poem, ‘The Ecstasy’ brings together (or juxtaposes) opposites; Donne has also reconciled such opposites as the medieval and the modern, the spiritual and physical, the scientific or secular and the religious, the abstract and the concrete, the remote and the familiar, the ordinary and the metaphysical. This is largely done through imagery and conceit in which widely opposite concepts are brought together. |
StarFire08:Please share. I am seeing 'The Ecstasy' online and it is a bit confusing. Please confirm if it is the same with this: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44099/the-ecstasy Modified: Just confirmed they are the same. |
StarFire08:Will look out for this. |
I am a huge fan of John Donne. As a matter of fact, metaphysical poets are about the only poets that exist in my world. Strangely, I have never read or studied 'Extasie' but the idea of the title, which is most likely to be from the original word 'ecstacy'. If you have a link to the poem online, kindly share a theme and I could assist before today runs out, if that's fine. |
Onelove508:Please tell me you are kidding. ![]() |
mgbadakaenyi:GROIN SMELL. 1. Avoid wearing other fabric types save cotton boxers. You might be sweating a lot down there and you need a moisture-wicking fabric to handle the pressure. Go cotton. 2. Shave often, particularly during hot seasons. Avoid using shaving sticks or blades. Preferably, use Veets or any other hair removal cream with a good smell. If you can't afford that, combine shaving stick with a good soap. 3. Use deodorant-soaps. A cheap one around is Irish Spring which is about N250 or N300 4. Pee remnants or drips can make the area smell. So best shake well and don't tuck IT in in a hurry. 5. The nature of your job can be a factor. If you move around a lot, you are most likely to have a smelly area. The case is often different if you don't move around much. 6. Changing boxers twice a day won't save you. A boxer a day is okay, save you sweat and move around a lot. Fixing this, get cotton boxers but try to keep the area dry. 7. Pubic hairs can overheat the sac and the area during dry seasons. If it does, it is bound to give off unpleasant smells. 8. Embrace slightly loose boxers more rather than tight ones. PS: DO NOT USE POWDERS ON YOUR GROIN. |
chewwie:Seriously I thought not to respond to your claim because everyone tries to come off as smart during discourses. Anyways, we are here to help your ignorance. The mayor of DC DOES NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER THE NATIONAL GUARD. The mayor of DC is like the FCT minister. The FCT minister does not have the power over the military. At best, he can only REQUEST, which can be approved or disapproved. The Mayor of DC CAN ONLY WRITE TO PENTAGON TO REQUEST FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE NATIONAL GUARD. If Pentagon approves, the NG will be deployed. If otherwise, they won't. I strongly believe you DO NOT KNOW A THING ABOUT NATIONAL GUARDS. PS: The National Guard is THE RESERVE OF THE ARMY AND THE AIR FORCE. HOW A MAYOR HAS THE POWER TO CONTROL A COUNTRY'S MILITARY RESERVE IS BEYOND ME. The only people who can activate the National Guard are governors and the POTUS (US).
|
chewwie:There is common sense, sir and it should have told you DC isn't a state in the US. So guess who has control of it and who decides whether vandals or arsonists will be punished or prosecuted? And guess how long it took before the National Guard was activated? Humour me a minute; under whom was the Statues & Monuments Act reenacted? Please, scoot this fine morning. |
Dagger111:I did nau. Why I didn't reference them is because the government declared them dangerous, just as they declared IPOB a terrorist group. It is a different ball game withe those protesting against police brutality. |
Karleb:Not all. There certain videos I saw of people genuinely running after the pencil moved. A Nigerian lady had a nervous breakdown yesterday after playing the game. According to her, her pencil moved and she went outside to get her clothes off the line only to find her TV switched on. There are some many videos of those who ran after their pencil moved. From a horror movie perspective, I believe there is more than meets the eye. |
flamingREED:What is? The fact that there are 2 systems of justice, similar to what we have in Nigeria or that Trump is being hypocritical? |
Emmamay10:Well, I felt that way but you still don't get the memo. Trump called in the National Guard on BLM protesters in around June-July of last year and they were heavily armed. The difference here today is the skin colour. The Lekki kill zone formation and the killings would not have happened if the protest was staged by Northerners in the North. The prejudice and sentiments is so obvious. Right now, the United States is just another Nigeria in North American and Trump supporters are a reflection of Buhari had the senile old man lost his reelection bid. |
