If Barca eventually get to sign a striker like Lewandowski in January to complement our attack, the formation should go thus, especially in big matches:
Valdes
Alves- Pique- Mascherano- Alba/Adriano
Busquets- Xavi/Iniesta

Messi

Alexis- Lewandowski- Neymar jr

Messi should be able to play the playmaking role like he does in the albiceleste national team behind Higuian/Aguero.

Since Xavi isn't getting any younger and becoming prone to sluggishness, he should be able to assist Busquets in the double pivot role. Iniesta may even start in a case where fluidity is needed in the final third.
This formation would make Messi less susceptible to the overcrowding he always undergoes in the final third against ultra-defensive sides like Chelsea. He would be able to release quick passes to Neymar jr and Lewandowski on the break to wreck havoc, since Barca is evolving from the traditional tiki-taka to a more direct and counter attacking approach under Tata.

His citing of mental tiredness as a reason for not continuing after 4th season was expected. It was obvious he was struggling to impose his tactical changes. None of them seemed to work anymore. He eventually left a good, competitive team but short, tactically when compared to his other seasons. The team ultimately collasped last season , a collapse which was not helped by Tito's unstable health issues. Guardiola is a shrewd man. He knew his end was near as far as the team is concern and he didn't hesitate.

But without loss of generality, i think Barca is moving up again as a tactically sound team they once were, which made them the most feared and a team least desired by opposition coaches. It was not only because of great players they possess, but the difficulty in deciphering which possible way to respond to their varied tactical switches before & during matches. However, with some evidences like Madrid's match the other day, Tata can help the team even more. All he seem to lack now is a striker who 'll redeem Cesc from the misery of playing in the centre of attack. It's obvious Tata prefers to play Messi at the right wing in big matches and Neymar in the left wing. And it makes alotta sense. Big teams have learnt how to handle Messi playing in the centre but it'll be a whole new challenge when he becomes a winger, as he once were. I think it's only an outsider coach & an Argentine that can easily do that without hurting Messi's feelings because everyone knows he like to play but only in centre. It remains to be seen how everything pans out for everyone, but there is a reason to be optimistic.

If Barca can sign a Suarez-esque type of striker next season, I doubt if our attack would not be the most potent and most feared in Europe.

Messi can be drafted to the right flank in top games to accommodate the striker, while Neymar will concoct his magic from the left flank.

It would be more like the holy trinity combination of Henry-Eto'o-Messi, in Pep's first season in charge at Barca. The deadliest trio!

Like seriously, I wish Barca can sign a Luiz Suarez. That dude is the hottest striker in Europe. Better still, a Fernando Torres, who will come relatively cheaper.

Truth is, we can't throw caution to the wind by starting Alves at right back against a very swift and pacy Madrid attack, especially if Pique operates at the heart of the defence.

Pique will be massively exposed because Alves would always be straying forward with reckless abandon! Therefore, Alves should be the deployed at the right side of attack; he is more of an attacking player than a defensive one. Best formation in my opinion.

^^ Bro, I bet you, if Tata can just tweak the regular formation and succumb to the clarion call of most Barca fans by deploying Puyol at right back, we would beat Madrid with relative ease.

This is my preferred formation for tomorrow. Carles Puyol should be drafted to the right back to cover sluggish Pique's back. Since Alves would always stray forward, he should be deployed in the right side of attack.
