Nairalanders, this is about one of my brothers. He met his fiancee at his place of work couple of months ago. In about a month's time, they are gonna get hooked as man and wife. Now, the policy of the accounting firm where they both work as staff is, two employees from the same company can't work at the firm at the same time as married couple, so one of them needs to step down. Another problem is, the lady earns about #50,000 more than the my brother(from what he told me) and they are both at loggerheads on who to step down between both of them. My brother says he doesn't see himself heading back to the labour market after their wedding. His fiancee says, since she earns more than him, he should resign while they will set up a business together after their wedding, which the hubby would run. Nairalanders, please, your advice is really needed here. What should they do? Intelligent opinions and contributions are highly needed as I'll forward it to them. |

Wow, what an interesting thread! My post will be kind of lengthy, though. When I was in junior high school, I had passion for English and Social studies, but my dad, as an academia, forced me into science department, in my senior high school. I was woeful in Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, I barely managed to pass Physics, though. My fellow classmates, who were underperforming like me, knew that science wasn't their calling, and with immediate alacrity, changed to Arts department. At the end of the session in Ss1, one of them who changed, became the best student. When I told my dad I wanted to change, he went on a tirade of words, which forced me to remain in science class, amidst poor results. Fast forward to when I was seeking for admission, my dad forced me to study Architecture, just because his colleague's son was studying the course and doing well. I got admission into a polytechnic, and at the end of my first year, I had had three carry overs, considering the fact I had no prior knowledge of T.D and my F.maths was poor. With the help of my older cousins and some church members, I was able to convince my dad that Arcitecture wasn't my line, and that was after two years of academic fruitlessness in the polytechnic. At age 24, after I had wasted like 6 years of my life, I realized I would be better in the social sciences, I sat for another Wassce and JME, blasted my result at a sitting, and got admission to study Sociology. Though, I'm presently studying History and Diplomacy in one of the second generation Federal University, 200level, and that was due to wrong subject combination in UTME. I don't have any regret, though, I'm relishing the course with every breath of me, and blazing the trail in my department as well. |

chuckdee4: Typical ignorant Nairalander who resorts to insults when they have no points to make. You are a foooooool! Go and create another thread, if you wanna look beyond these intelligent guys, who strove hard to attain academic excellence! A blind hater like you will never see beyond your nose to praise excellence! In this time and age where Nigerian youths are jostling to pick up forms for Project fame, Glo Naija sings, Nigeria idol, Nigeria got talent and other wack and uninteresting shows, attaining and rewarding academic excellence is a step in the right direction. It shows, despite all the distractions and stress in our Universities, people are still striving hard to prove their academic mettle, which will go a long way in motivating other first class and second class upper aspiring students. |

chuckdee4: Plank, u don't know me from anywhere, what makes you think i'm a product of 3rd class.STFU! Just because you graduated with a third class or pass doesn't give you the justification to castigate those who strove hard to graduate with first class, and the Governor who rewarded academic excellence. Like seriously, what the fuccck is wrong with some Nigerians? |
Eko Ile: Whatever happened to everybody's governor. And what about competency, attitude and other qualities and attributes needed to do the jobs in question.Just because the governor in question is not Acn's Tinubu or Fashola, huh? Sycophancy is a big disease! Smh! |
