No one is calling her an amateur, but the fact is that like many talented singers before her, she would be barely remembered. Ask how many 8 to 15 year olds remember Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin (Before the Obama inauguration), Marvin Gaye, Billie Holliday, Judy Garland, Nat "King" Cole, Bing Crosby etc. Some of them are still alive and many of them were bigger in their day than Beyonce is today. Obviously they all have their places in history, but do not think that Beyonce would take on some "Elvis" status, because even now at the height of her fame, she does not dwarf all the competition. The Jacksons (especially Michael) would always occupy a more prominent place in history due to their strategic positioning and relevance to bringing "black" music into the main stream.

For many black people (and I guess other races too), race does not become an issue worthy of major discussion until you live/visit/interact in societies which predominantly consist of races that are different from yours.
