Hello everyone I'm happy to be back on this thread. I left after my 2019 refusal. It was raining refusals back then and I left and also got engaged with other stuffs. I want to resume my pursuit and I'm wondering if there are now changes. Like are people getting approvals now? Is there hope. A little insight will be well appreciated. This thread was so helpful back then.

Hi everyone, been away from here for sometime now. The thread was depressing me...lol... with refusals upandan. I'm hoping things may have changed by now.

Well done to all the gurus who have been holding the fort

@Sashaa

Just to add to the rich contribution that has already been made regarding a strong GTE, I want to add that if your offer is different from your previous studies and/or work experience, but you have done some non-credit courses online or some credible certifications in your intended course, add those documents to your visa application to strengthen your case and demonstrate that you have always had the desire for a career/course change.

Secondly, read your SOP like an examiner and not a student, juxtapose your documents and SOP, then ask yourself: Is there a gap, a contradiction, omission, etc? This would help you create a near perfect GTE (in the absence of a second opinion).

best of luck.
Thank you so much

Certainly there are factors you must consider so as to be at an advantageous point. Are you looking at courses related to your work experience considering the number of years or you still want to continue with computer science? You will have to put up a good SOP in whatever part you are taking. I will advise you look into AL 1 schools though their fees are much but it helps a lot. Another factor is your home tie. You said you are a matured applicant and same time a single though I don't know the age bracket you fall into. All the same,you will still have to put up a good GTE statement to convince the visa officer that you are genuine and not looking for means to exit this great country. On the issue of sponsorship,your best bet will be parents or siblings. Don't forget that when you get admission to AL 1 school, it is optional for the visa officer to request for bank statement though its important you have it handy cos they might request for it. Did you have any English test result? My little contribution and I believe others here can drop their input. I wish you all the best.
Thank you so much for your response.

Hello Everyone, please what are the key things one needs to note in this student visa journey? I'm in the process of seeking admission. I'm a matured student with a B.sc in computer science and about 8 years work experience (customer service and sales/marketing. 6 of which is banking experience)
Can I use a third party sponsor? I also have my own funds of around 8m. I'm female and single.
Your kind inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Hope u have all your school fees available cos MBA in the sch is research based on all the courses and class attendance is compulsory (any student that misses 8 hrs lectures during the 2 yrs program will be reported to immigration) thereby making work and study difficult. But u can still work for 20 hrs per week but the pay can only cater for living expenses and not sch fees
Wow!
Do you anyone currently studying there?

Let me add to what qudkom said. Long post alert.

(1) Getting a part time job depends on city and province. If you search on Indeed and physically go and hand in your resume in companies, you will get a job. Please don't be choosy, any job that comes first, do it.

(2) Canada education is not hard (my opinion) but it is super stressful and demanding. Make sure you have the right team. Ensure you move with people who share same goals with you. There will be days you will feel like giving up or no motivation to continue, it is your friends/team that will boost your morale in those low moments. There will be days you will have multiple assignments, reports or quizzes due and you need mental support, suggestions and so forth. This is where having the right support comes in.

The Chinese girl that had the best result in my program worked 3 days a week and she had 4.1 out of a possible 4.2.
For a whole session , I had at least 98% attendance in all my modules, I worked part time and I had11A's and 1B. Another Nigerian lady in my program, had same result, she worked night shifts and combined it with school. Nigerians are strong and built for anything

(3) Taking care of living expenses with part time work is dependent on if you are working for full 20 hours. Most jobs are structured for 8 hours per shift, so some companies will give you just 2 days in a week because of the 20 hours work restriction students have, while some companies will give you 21/2 days (your exact 20 hours). Some students work 3 days, 22.5 or 24 hours. I do not recommend working above 20 hours though.

If you work for exact 20 hours in London, Ontario and its environs (Sarnia, Windsor), you will get at least 1000CAD monthly. Minimum wage in Ontario is 14 Cad. so lets do the maths;
Accommodation = 450 - 550 Cad
Feeding = about 150 Cad monthly
Data = 50 Cad monthly

Total equals about 750 Cad. You can end up saving at least 200 Cad every month. Even if you do not get the exact 20 hours, 16 hours weekly can take care of feeding, accommodation and data if the student knows how to spend wisely.

P.s The major reason why International students (Nigerians) struggle in Canada is finance. Once you have money, tuition fully paid, you will do well in Canada.

Wow...this is very insightful. Thanks!

Canadian Study Permit Approval. Yhhh!. May 21st Applicant
Paper Route.
Upfront Medicals- Passed 21st May 2019
Eligibility review and background check started almost immediately.
Received a Correspondence Letter 7th August 2019
Status Changed to Application Approved 9th August.

Submitted all documents, Secondary School, University, and other documents.
School- Grande Prairie College Alberta, Diploma Business Admin 2 years

Statement of account of sponsor, my dad
However on the 5th of July the embassy requested for a bank ticket and password saying the bank statement I submitted is fraudulent, closing account 6 million Naira. I was a bit scared, but man remained strong.

My take on this, just submit the required documents and make sure no fraudulent documents, if you'll be given the visa, you will be given.
Congrats!
