French is an international language and is spoken in many countries in the world. African language ends in Africa while French, English and other global language are used for trade and business. It is rare to trade in African language
Abeg French is not a True international language. Do not be deceived.
If the basis of your rebuttal on the non-viability of African languages is based on that fact that they are spoken just within Africa, then how many real countries of any significant global weight outside Africa speak French apart from France and adjoining regions?

It is rare to see trade being conducted in African languages because Africans have refused to elevate the status of their national languages, but keep blaming colonialism, even now that they have the freedom - LASG is still passing some stupid law about one moribund french language.

Of what use is French language in today's world outside Sub-Saharan Africa countries who ideally should all switch to English plus African languages as lingua Francas?

The Benin Obas can never be Ogisos, they still pay the symbolic customary rent to the aboriginal Benins during their coronation by re-enacting the Ekiokpagha treaty. cheesy

Don’t circumvent Ekiokpagha Treaty, family warns Benin Traditional Council

BENIN—THE Ogiamien family of Utantan, Benin, Edo State has warned the Benin Traditional Council, BTC, that any attempt to circumvent the Ekiokpagha treaty between the family and the Oba during the coronation rites of a new monarch, will bring an end to the reign of the current dynasty in the kingdom.

Meanwhile, the family has given a 14-day ultimatum to one of the Bini palace chiefs, Chief Osamede Adun, to withdraw the falsehood levelled against it that members of the Ogiamien family, who are the actual Bini aborigines, in which the chief said were slaves/strangers in the kingdom, or face legal action.

omonnakoda:
In gegraphy North is determined by latitude FULL STOP

Point A is more or less northern than point B based on latitude. That has ALWAYs been the case

So "can be considered" is NONSENSE. it is a matter of geographical fact what is more northern or more southern. It is not subject to debate or "consideration" rather a simple matter of geographical coordinates

It is a technical matter of factuality with regard to what is more northern geographically

The point about Kogi Kwara or benue is simple if you take time to comprehend.

It is that along with Oyo they are geographically in the south

It is a simple calculation

Mark the Northenmost point and southernmost points by way of latitude and divide by two with the latitude that runs through the middle .
There is no basis for your distance to sea mularkey in Geography
You are just getting your briefs up in a tight bunch over nothing, mind you, I won't hv even known about this thread but for the fact that you quoted me first. That being said, yes N or S is geography in the strictest, but unless you think everything in the world is painted in Black and White then you should probably give your previous ideas about "what should be considered what" a good rethink.

Greece is Considered a part of the "Western World", however it is geographically on the same longitude as Serbia which is considered nothing Western. Humans are the ones who define what is considered what, not some arbitrary point on a compass, because guess what..... Even the definition of what is North differs in Geography and the Magnetic North is different from the geodetic North. You seem to think North and South can simply be defined by dividing the geographical map of Nigeria by a ruler and labelling what falls where as such, forgetting other factors. Nigeria is not a plain shaped polygon or some 3D shaped multilateral. Look at the map, the borders are irregular. The Southernmost point of France is more southern than that of Croatia. Yet Croatia is considered Southern Europe, while France is not.

Once again, your bringing of Geography of North and South into a thread about voters' population per state is still puzzling. More puzzling is the fact that you get quoted on it (since you brought it up), and you then act like you have no idea what is being talked about.Besides, strictly speaking Oyo is in the SW and not just plain South, so what was your point exactly? ?

Better parameter of what exactly? What has distance to sea got to do with population in Oyo?
Sorry you are not making sense

The concept of North and south applies t countries in the geographical centre of AFrica like central African republic and Zambia
What has the location of Kogi, Kwara or Benue in relation to Oyo got to do with the population in each of them?
It was you who brought up locations in a thread talking about population figures.

I was just following up on your earlier post as per what could be considered northern or Southern in the Nigerian context.

The North may be SPARSELY populated but it is more than 4 times the size of the south

One thing a lot of people miss when they say "North" is that Kogi Benue Taraba kwara are all in the "North" but Oyo is in the "SOuth"

From a geographical perspective. Oyo is more in the North than Benue. The most Northern point of Oyo is at a higher latitude than than of Kogi.
Well, distance from the sea should be a better parameter in this instance, than altitude.
Benue may be at a similar latitude to oyo, but Oyo is closer to the coast. The length of land from Nigeria's coastline in the south towards the northern tip of al the southern states are relatively similar.

Oshigun:
Don't mind them. Like I will always insist, the biggest weakness of the Igbo man is the belief he has nothing to learn from others because he has been indoctrinated to believe himself superior to all others even from the womb. This is why Igbos stubbornly fail to acknowledge stone-cold fact that show others to be more successful.

An example is Tinubu. Like or hate him, the man's achievement in Lagos governance and Nigerian politics has been nothing but phenomenal in the past 2 decades. Because he is Yorubas the Igbo, with the lack of humility they operate with and their false sense of superiority over others, dont think they have anythjng to learn from Jagaban even as they are yet to produce anyone with his political sagacity in the modern era.

If Igbos are into bettering themselves , and not closing their eyes to the word and action of others , because they feel they know it all, they too may develop a Tinubu who can grow political cohesion and focus in the SE. Instead 20,000 Igbo leaders are shouting 20,000 different things at the same time and backstabbing themselves with no unity of purpose or thinking.
I get your point, but honestly, Igbos are not taught they are better than anybody or to be proud of whom they are. What they are taught is to hate everything they can't match instead of appreciating and learning from, including other Igbos.
There is a difference.

I jst had to say it since you keep repeating that same point.

...if we take that on the face value..You will recall the life of the Igbos started in 1970 after all they had was destroyed in the 3 years civil war..so those who made their comments...who are not Igbos are correct in their judgment...How many of those industries do you have outside the SW?...Igbos made sure they contribute in every community they live...Imagine Nigeria without the Igbos...all cities including Lagos, Ibadan, PH and Abuja will have had a different landscape...
So which major Nigerian city won't have a different outlook without any of the major Nigerian ethnic groups in it?
If you truly care for your people and their future, then you should know charity begins at home. If everything igbos say abt themselves were to be taken at face value, one would expect the SE by now to be competing with Hong Kong, or even Gauteng province in South Africa within the continent heere. And please the life of igbos did not begin in 1970, there was an entire Eastern region economy in 1970.
PoliticsRe: Why Igbos Can’t Be Tamed by scholes0(m): 3:51pm On Jan 05, 2019
lol the writer of that article is definitely an Igbo sock puppet.

No self conscious omoluabi will be caught quoting being completely "Westernized" as a positive attribute. Only an Igbo will write such.

He even claims that Yorubas were easily infiltrated and dominated by the Brits, yet the average Yoruba of today is 80% more in touch with his culture, language, and roots than the average Igbo.

If his above assertion is true, then how ironic is that....

I'm well aware that there exist 3 main dialectal variants of the sibilant fricative in Yoruba with the exception of "Z" in Olukumi. While Oyo and SY make the distinction between "S" and "Sh", this distinction isn't prominent in the speeches of much of Northern Osun.
I don't get what the bolded means? oyo and Standard Yoruba makes a distinction between S and SH or not?

One key difference is the use of "s" vs "sh" sound in Oyo.
Yoruba has got three variants of that fricative.

"S", "Sh", and "Ch"

When the linguists met to decide the orthography of the yoruba language, they decided to adopt the Sh sound for written Yoruba since it was in the middle.
