Christianity EtcRe: Who is your Favorite Popular Pastor or Preacher in Nigeria? by segoye2(m): 8:40pm On Jan 21, 2007
@ Topic,
Well for me, I will vote for non of them. 94% of the listed pastors are pocket scrappers.

If their teaching are bible based, then they worth calling men of God. But if , ,
the other way round.

I will rather vote Mr. Seun (nairaland site admin) as the best man to the subject matter

@ Bobbyaf,

Well, your comment was well understood and the points well driven home.

I think start naming or discribing movie , TV, paper miracles are something I shouldn't start with on this thread because is a story known to all of us.

We have seen and read about cases where someone was blind from the womb and at the time of his sight recieving, he was asked what colour of shirt the ministers in front of him wore and was able to Identify it. He could even Identify AC garget? Isn't that strange?

Another case is that of a 15 yrs child that couldn't walk right from birth, but when he was prayed upon, he was able to walk by himself, I mean noone taught him how to. Not even a mere support from people around.

Well, to me, God gave me a gift of life which I still enjoy even up to the point of my replying this post. So is worth celebrating. But addressing the issue of Miracles from the other way round, am not blind or something, so it makes me feel, the type of miracles we are talking about is not applicable in my case.

Were you blind or something before? How did you recieve you healing?

@ All,
More Comments please
Christianity EtcRe: Do Miracles Happen Today? by segoye2(op): 7:01pm On Jan 21, 2007
@ All,

Thanks for all the wonderful comments and talks. Though sometimes we over reacted to situations and can't help but voice out our spritual stand.

I will like to note some comments here that our being alive today is a miracle; yes it is a miracle but were they the miracles we read about on the papers? watch in TV / video tapes? With the scripture quoted eealier on the thread, And with the scriptural knowledge we got, how do we interpret or understanding the passage?

I will in miracles, but not in Movies, or Well written journals, I don't know if you do.

Meanwhile, do you have any miracle you want to share on this thread? apart from the gift of live given us by God? Tell us something more real.

@ Bobbyaf, Shashan, Ndipe, Ruesco, Danieecool, YemmyDavid and the rest,
Your comment are real great.

Christianity EtcDo Miracles Happen Today? by segoye2(op): 9:29pm On Jan 19, 2007
We all know that for a healthy walk with God and a balanced attitude toward miracles, we should avoid setting our expectations below what God opens up to us, and we should also avoid presuming that God has to do miracles on demand if we feel strongly enough about it. True faith is confidence that God can do anything he chooses, and willingness to accept whatever he chooses.

But with the Miracles shown on every TV stations, Magazines and the rest, with lots of them happening so fast, one will not help but ask if Miracle really happen today!
Christianity EtcCrying After Christmas by segoye2(op): 9:17pm On Jan 19, 2007
Bethlehem would have been happier if Jesus had been born elsewhere. Christmas cards picture Bethlehem as a lovely village, and you might wish you had been there when baby Jesus was born. But if you could go back in time and talk with people who lived in Bethlehem back then, they would probably tell you that they wish Jesus had been born somewhere else. For them, Christmas was a calamity. Jesus’ birth brought bloodshed.

If you could go back in time and ask Bethlehem's people to tell about their experiences connected with Christmas, they would not smile and share fond memories. Their eyes would brim with tears. Their voices would crack with anguish and anger. They would speak not of festivities and feasting but of funerals. Sure, you might find a few shepherds with joyful memories of the night they heard angels and saw that remarkable baby in the manger, but even some of the shepherds might express mixed feelings about Jesus being born in their town. Any shepherds near Bethlehem who had babies at that time would have seen their little ones murdered along with all the other babies of Bethlehem. Why were the babies killed? Because Jesus had been born there. That one baby's birth meant the death of every other baby in Bethlehem and the surrounding area. There was terrible crying after Christmas.

Some of us enjoy Christmas as a time for family celebrations: moms and dads, brothers and sisters, grandpas and grandmas, aunts and uncles and cousins having a great time together. But for others Christmas is a time of tears, a time when grief and loneliness are worse than usual, when our tragedies and troubles hurt the worst. We think back on our losses, and we weep.

And even if many of us haven’t suffered personally, we mourn with those in others parts of the world whose children were massacred by terrorists. We mourn for lives that have been shattered by wars, hurricanes, and other events. We may still love Christmas and enjoy the season, but what about all the tears and broken hearts? If Jesus came into the world to save people and to bring joy and peace, why do awful things still happen?

The people of Bethlehem would understand such sorrow. They would have terrifying memories. After the first Christmas, these people saw soldiers barging into their homes. Moms and dads saw their own babies clubbed or stabbed or strangled. Boys and girls saw their own little sisters and brothers murdered. Grandpas and grandmas who had tenderly cradled those precious little ones would never hold them again. Uncles and aunts and cousins and neighbors shared in the shock and horror. Nobody in Bethlehem could forget that awful

Perhaps it doesn't take much imagining for you to identify with Bethlehem’s tears. Perhaps you've been through something awful in your own life. Your heart is breaking. Evil and death seem everywhere. The Christmas question is this: Despite it all, can you believe you'll be okay in the end because Jesus got away and holds your future in his hands?

Remember: When the lying, murdering Butcher of Bethlehem has done his worst, Jesus still lives. When the ultimate liar and murderer, Satan himself, has done his worst, Jesus still lives. No matter what happens, no matter how vicious the powers of evil become, no matter how horribly you suffer, Jesus still lives! And because Jesus lives, hope lives. On this Christmas, as at the first Christmas, there is much darkness in the world—there's no denying it. But "the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5). Is the light of Jesus shining in your heart?

Huummm, sensible comment, u mean the clothing allowance is more than the salary of Nigerian Police Constable? I guess if you are to address allowances, we should start from the presidency, + the rest, rest.
PoliticsNo More 20 Naira: New Pay 4 Federal Workers, Military & Police ! by segoye2(op): 12:47pm On Jan 18, 2007
THE Federal Government approved a new salary regime for its workers yesterday.

The consolidated salary structure endorsed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its sitting yesterday covers the armed forces, police and the para-military services.

Under the first category, the least paid public office holder appointed by the President but not reflected in the RAFMC salary scale will receive a total of N1.7 million yearly while the highest paid in this category - Chief of Staff to the President, CDS and service chiefs, and others - will receive a total of N4.8 million yearly.

Under the Armed Forces Salary Structure, the least paid - a private, will earn a total of N260,000 (as accommodation and furnishing will be provided by government); while the highest paid officer - Brigadier-General or their equivalents - will earn a total of N2.687 million yearly.

For the Police and the para-military services who are in one category, the least paid - a recruit - will receive a total of N63,000; a constable or their equivalent will receive a total of N293,000 while the highest paid - Assistant Inspector-General of Police or their equivalents will earn a total of N2.464 million. Their pay looks high because the bulk of officers and other ranks under this category - about 80 per cent - don't live in the barracks.

For the non-academic staff of Federal Government universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, teaching hospitals and research institutes, the least paid - Grade Level (GL) 01 one will receive a total of N152,544 yearly while the highest paid will receive a total of N2.875 million.

For their academic counterparts, the least paid GL 01 Step 01 are to earn a total of N694,000 while the highest paid - next to the Vice Chancellor in rank, will collect a total of N3.209 million.

For the personnel in the federal public service, though nobody is in level GL 01 Step 01, beneficiaries are billed to earn N133,000. The new lowest level position - GL 04 Step 01 will earn a total of N144,000 while the highest paid GL 17 Step 09 (for directors) will earn N2.271 million.

Also approved is an additional allowance of a total of N1.2 million yearly payment to personnel recruited under the Scarce Skills programme.

For the foreign missions, allowances hitherto paid in 10 categories were reduced to a single allowance and increased by 25 per cent. Nigeria has a total of 90 missions abroad.

El-Rufai noted that the allowances were not pro-rata but were determined by the location, adding that "now, our foreign service officers are comfortable."

The Council also approved a total of $3,000 for the ambassadors as clothing allowances. Their spouses will also earn clothing allowances.

For the members of the board of federal parastatals, the Council reduced their sittings to four a year. However, a chairman of the board will collect N458,000 per sitting. They hitherto earned N100,000 per sitting, approved in March 1999.

For members of the boards who earned a total of N87,000 per sitting before now, they will now earn a total of N398,000; civil servants who had attended the meetings without payments since 1999, will now earn allowances put at 298 per cent.

With this kind of money, do you think legalizing 20 20 naira collection will come up?

I read through this piece of rubbish from tribune online and all I could say to Adams is; Thank you for selling us for your filty vision of being a governor and thank you for wasting all our trust in you.

http://www.tribune.com.ng/18012007/news/news10.html
President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has given reasons why the NLC did not embark on any form of protest against the Federal Government throughout 2006 or go on strike during the year.

Oshiomhole, who spoke during a get-together with labour correspondents, also commended the media for the part they played in all the struggles by the NLC.

Oshiomhole said the congress did not go on strike because the Federal Government, after its collaboration with the labour movement, “saw the futility of subjecting the Nigerian market and the Nigerian people to free market and some other key issues around which led to organising previous protests.”

According to Oshiomhole, “many people have asked why the NLC was very quiet in 2006. The year was the first time in eight years that NLC neither issued ultimatum to the Federal Government nor did it have course to go on strike.

“But the truth of the matter is that as a result of our collaboration, the Federal Government accepted the futility of subjecting the Nigerian market and the Nigerian people on what they called free market and some of those key issues around which we had organised previous protests.

“Government finally agreed that it will not subject the domestic prices of petroleum products to market forces and that subsidy is not injurious to the Nigerian economy.”

Besides, he pointed out that the government appropriated some amount of money to subsidise the prices of fuel, adding: “It (government) proceeded to appropriate some couple of billions of naira to guarantee price stability of locally consumed petroleum products.

“With that policy, there was no need for us to re-enact the annual festival arising from increases in petroleum product. I think it is important to mention this because many people have asked me why nothing happened in 2006.”

Don't you think he sold us out?

A reliable source confirmed it that the lowest rank in the police force earn 8,500 + housing allowance and some small small allowances which is about 10,000 or less.

Is too painful. They asked to protect us at the expense of their lifes but all along, if they lose their life in process, no compensation, nothing from the government, The problem is not the force is the power behind the force "Federal Government".

A new Nigeria Police Force will emerge if each state is allowed to operate its state police.

Threads are meant to be informative, educative and should be something one could make use of in his / her day to day activities, but this very one, is really trash. Work on your thoughts, bring out something that will yield positive impact, and not distruction.

Are you asking to know or asking the Author of the Holy Scripture? If I may ask you, are you a follower of Christ? if yet? Who is the Author of the Bible?

My opinion on this is you should change your topic to God encourages the Raping of Virgin Girls,

People say his bad because of the killing of about 200 + ?, But that is happening everywhere, even in Nigeria. The Odi village, in the bible, the David, Elijah and the baal prophets, to mention few.

Foreign AffairsRe: Saddam Hussein Is Dead by segoye2(m): 7:32pm On Jan 10, 2007
This is our celebration of the death of Saddam,'' said Almost everyone, while following reports that Saddam had been hanged. ``The gift of our New Year is the murder of Saddam Hussein.

``If you want to share the Iraqi people's happiness for the death of Saddam, raise your voice and your hands.''

The crowd responded with resounding cheers.

Dave Alwatan was among those who gathered at the Karbalaa center. He wore an Iraqi flag around his shoulders and grinned. He flashed a peace sign at everyone he passed.

``Peace,'' he said, smiling and laughing. ``Now there will be peace for my family.''

Others expressed a similar sense of relief.

``I feel like I lost something all my life and today it is found,'' said Moshtaq al-Bazaz, of Windsor, Ontario, who used to live in Dearborn and still prays at the mosque.

But the execution might bring some amusement and accomplishment to the Bush administration, but it will not help the Iraqi people.

It will take one to two generations to eradicate the garbage left over from Saddam Hussein and to re-establish a healthy generation,'' said Odisho, a linguistics professor at Northeastern Illinois University.

Naqishbendi said he was pleased that Saddam was being executed, but lamented that it will not bring back family members who he said were gassed by the dictator's henchman in 1988.

``Psychologically the execution is good news, and people will feel that justice has been served,'' he said. ``But the reality is that it's not going to bring back my family members who he killed.''

@ Topic,
Will his execution bring peace in any form?

@ Big B1 / Afam,
Lets get on with the topic please.

Well, I don't think the 'problem' in Iraq can be solved! Bush opened a can of worms that even he does not know how to deal with. Apart from the sectarian violence - democracy is going to be hard because of the ancient animosities that exist between the sunni's and shi'ites. The army has done nothing to endear itself to the people at all - Abu Ghraib is a fine example (makes you wonder what they do at Guantanamo if that's the way the military behave in someone else's country), with over 30,000 civilians killed. It's Vietnam all over again without a communist country to come in and fix it all up. This will go down as the sorriest story in American history. With or without the oil it was all a farce. Remember it wasn't Hussein that blew the world trade towers - and one never hears anything anymore about Usama Bin Laden!

PDP expels Atiku, Kalu, declares their seats vacant
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at an emergency meeting in Abuja on Friday expelled Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu and declared their seats vacant. The Vice President had on Wednesday in Lagos declared for another political party, the Action Congress and was elected as the party?s presidential candidate, while Kalu was on Thursday declared as the presidential candidate of the Progressive People?s Alliance (PPA). The National Working Committee of the party met on Wednesday night immediately after the Vice President's declaration in Lagos and resolved that the PDP's relationship with him be determined once and for all. It was also learnt that the meeting resolved that the Vice President, who was suspended for three months over alleged anti-party activities, should be expelled having declared officially for another party.
PDP has a junk of bad records now,  They are real "share the money",  and you can see now that we have no option but to say a big thank you to IBB for opting out of that corrupt party.  cheesy

Switzerland uncovers another $7m Abacha loot
The Swiss government on Friday in Abuja disclosed that it has discovered another lodged loot of late General Sani Abacha to the tune of $7 million. Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Pierre Helge said there were no evidence yet to ascertain that the sources of the funds were criminal. The envoy also declared that the Swiss government was yet to receive any request from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the Nigerian government to expose any other Nigerian former leader or politically exposed personalities whose wealth were stashed in his country and begin the repatriation exercise. Helge stated that there were several Nigerians among African leaders with accounts held in his country, but could not say exactly the quantum of lodgements. He spoke at the presentation of the report on Friday by the World Bank in Abuja on the management of the repatriated $500 million Abacha?s looted funds by the Nigeria government in key areas in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The fun is set. IBB is still in shape and as you can see, has no opposition. The only opposition his having are unknown fellows crying for stolen bread.  cheesy

Big B1, you know the governorship primary election by PDP across the country is total Zero, I believe hummm same will like to take shape in 2007 general presidential election.  With the look of things on ground, Interim government might be called upon to take over from OBJ. and later arrange a good poll where the main man will come out with glory (IBB).

From every indications, IBB is in good shape.

Big B1, do you think OBJ, EFCC and the rest could involve themselves in the PTDF issue ?  What a shame.

The Senate was yesterday confronted with the picture of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) as a vast slush fund when its probe into the handling of $125 million belonging to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) heard from Vice President Atiku Abubakar making wide-ranging allegations of financial malfeasance against President Olusegun Obasanjo including the alleged diversion of N20 billion meant for the Fund to finance the botched third term project. He spoke of serial corruption and diversions of money from the Fund after he ceased to oversee its activities.

Insisting that the present administration was after him to stop his bid for the presidency in 2007, Atiku who appeared before the Senate panel to debunk the allegations of embezzlement of PTDF funds leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) however made fresh allegations of his own about irregularities amounting to billions of naira after he was dropped as the overseer of the Fund in December 2005. He urged the panel to investigate the records of the Fund since the beginning of this year.

?Distinguished Senators, on the 10th of May 2006, at the height of the evil tenure elongation plot, the PTDF requested, under circumstances that were at best cloudy, for N 20 billion for its projects as well as the immediate release of N10 billion. The request was made by the PTDF management and approved by the President the same day. There is no evidence that the N20 billion was released to the PTDF and there is nothing to indicate that the approval of the Federal Executive Council was sought and obtained for both amounts. You may wish to investigate into what happened to the N20 billion. Where was it placed and what was it used for.?? Atiku queried

The Vice President also indicated an unhealthy connection between the Presidency and the United Bank of Africa (UBA) which he said was lent ?billions of naira? of PTDF money from which ?strangely the Federal Government then borrowed to buy vehicles.? He further alleged that ?the President went on to draw a personal loan of 200 million naira from the UBA which according to his spokespersons, was used to purchase the 200 million shares he owns in Transcorp.? The Vice President then commented: ?we hope that this 200 million naira ?loaned? to the President is not a trade ?off for the deposit which he approved for the bank.?

This appeared a pointed allusion to the allegation by the EFCC against the Vice President that PTDF money placed in two banks were the basis of the loans to two of his friends? companies.

Atiku who told the panel that he acted in line with the provisions of approved regulations guiding the activities of the PTDF in approving the placement of the $125 million as investments in Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB) and Trans International Bank (TIB) (now part of Spring Bank ) however alleged that the N20 billion and $150 million he left in the PTDF fixed deposit as well as the $533 million and $6.3 million in the current account have disappeared and urged the Senate to look into the issue.

He also alleged other irregularities in the management of the Fund since he left including alleged awards of contracts to presidential aides, to even unregistered companies belonging to members of the PDP National Working Committee in order to support the president, inflation of contracts and other financial improprieties.

Stating that he was never involved in the withdrawal and management of PTDF funds since its inception, Atiku urged the panel to request the statement of lodgments and withdrawals from the PTDF consolidated account from the Central Bank (CBN) and the Department of Petroleum Resources to ascertain who has been authorizing such. On the allegation by the EFCC that he had illegally authorized the placement of the $125 million meant for PTDF ?specific project? as investments in the said banks, Atiku explained that ?special project? in PTDF parlance referred to open ended projects which the Fund would continue to implement as long as it remained in existence. He said that investing the statutory allocation was in line with the Financial (Control and Management) Act 33 of 1958 which allows PTDF to invest its funds the proceeds of which it utilizes to run its affairs and projects.

?Because the PTDF is a fund in perpetuity it must preserve its capital by all means. To do this it is under obligation to invest its funds as well as adopt flexible financing options to help boost the Funds capital and meet its operational capital commitments. ?In other words the PTDF must invest its funds in a way and manner as to not only preserve the Fund?s capital but to increase it.? Atiku said.

He said that the investment of the funds in the ETB and TIB followed a memo raised by the PTDF Technical Implementation Committee Chairman Riwanu Lukman adding that the investment earned N 1.235 billion for the PTDF.

Atiku also state that contrary to allegations by the EFCC no funds belonging to the PTDF were lost as the placements in the banks were recovered and directed to the CBN after the president ordered the return of all government monies from commercial banks. He wondered where he had erred in his commitment to ensure that the PTDF achieved the purpose for which it was set up.

Atiku also debunked allegations that his son was one of the directors of MOFAS. The company operated by estranged presidential confidente Otunba Johnson Fasawe was alleged to have somehow benefited from the PTDF. He said that it was a family policy that none of his family members would get involved with government activity.

On the allegation that the TIB had given PTDF funds to Otunba Johnson Fasawe for his Moffas Shipping company and a proposed cable tv company, NDTV ?immediately the fund was placed in the bank,? Atiku said the loan was advanced in October 2003 six months after the fund was placed in April 2003.

Insisting that the allegations were baseless and must be discarded, Atiku urged the panel to look into all the records of the PTDF to unravel several irregularities committed by the presidency.

Speaking at the close of the hearing, Chairman of the panel Senator Victor Ndoma Egba commended the Vice President for his courage in subjecting himself willingly to the probe adding that the country would be a better place if all government officials would take the cue and subject themselves to public scrutiny in issues of such nature.
Nigeria, is too good to be distroyed by groups of greedy fellows, We need IBB in this cause.

God bless Nigeria
