@ All,
Well, I believe the Devil you know is better than the Angel you don't know at all. IBB is not even a devil in the first place. He cancelled June 12 for some reasons. Me and my family were in the Northern part of the state during that period. The cancelliation really saved so many lives then, are we not aware of some people that tried running from northern Nigeria to their villages because of the june 12 issue, well who no go no know, All I could say here is that
1. We need to pray for our dear country.
2. During IBB's regime, we don't have this kind of Mrs, Management.
Lets save our strenght for 2007. IBB which ever is your motive, pls don't betray the trust people still have in you.

PoliticsTheir Excellencies, Efcc And Looting: Comedy Of Errors by segoye2(op): 9:47am On Oct 21, 2006
By Prince C Dickson - October 19, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For quite sometime I have watched the unfolding drama of the EFCC and State Governors and their respective governments, the drama has been played out in various States from the harassment in Adamawa, the Benue treatment given to EFCC, Taraba and the Jolly Reverend, Zamfara and the big moustach to Bayelsa, Imo, the Ekiti soap has produced two Governors, two Chief Justices and illegality the Nigerian way, I could not have forgotten Plateau, a disaster waiting to happen. The list is plenty, there are very few States at one point or the other that has not been host to the new angels of the anti-corruption fight in Nigeria. Before anyone runs into conclusion I must quickly state that I do not have any problem with the philosophy behind the EFCC but its modus operandi has been where I have a disagreement.

A school of thought has however said that the way the EFCC has taken its fight is as a result of the Nigerian factor, which ordinarily would not allow for the impeachment of a Governor or the arraigning of a government official due to the loopholes in our judicial system. Everyone seems to have his point well marshaled out. Someone even reminded me that months back the Vice President was screaming for all to hear that he was willing to have his immunity waived to be investigated but what he did not see was the body blow coming his way and today he is holding on to that immunity strongly.
In those days of innocence when we were young men growing up, we were told a clear conscience fears no accusation but today the reverse is the case, I say this because amongst the almost 31 Governors mentioned one way or the other none has said "come and investigate me, I am ready to face any law court bring on the evidence I will prove the EFCC wrong" but everyone of them is claiming innocence. People have argued that Ribadu made a blanket statement in some cases but I join Ribadu in saying that there is hardly any Governor that has not stolen, What varies is the level and the type of stealing.
In Ribadu's words in Zamfara the Governor went for the jaw, he stole direct from source whatever that meant, I guess he was referring to the crudity of the stealing, and this is the case in many States. From my own investigations I know Governors that did it the other way round, they awarded contracts to their companies at inflated prices but did the company deliver is another question of morality. Other Governors turned their State treasury to a me and my family affair, in cases like that it was either the Governor's mother as charge de affair or brothers or in-laws as principal accomplice. Others were just cases of cronyism.
There were those who took their loot to neighbouring Ghana, some as far as Russia, one to Angola, another one I know that masquerades as a pious Christian took his loot to Jerusalem, others bought up choice properties in their States, another set were buying even fellow executives wives, in social circle each of these men had their nicknames. One is funnily called Bobby N1000 because he never parts with more that 1000 after affairs with daughters of eve, he reasoned that it was a privilege to be with him a Governor. Yet one was called resource control, as he was generous to a fault with money that was not his, another prided himself as the annex of Nigerian Breweries and to imagine this particular Governor is supposedly Sharia compliant
Among this lot of human beings who is clean, is there anyone that can bail these cats of the night that not only kill rats but also get into our soup pot as benefits of the job. In a state that the Governor was impeached his replacement recently was in the news as the wife was dipping her fingers into the State oil. Instantly the woman denied, naturally none of then has agreed to any form of guilt. One of these men opened an account in the son's name had his own brother's photo card for the account and the Governor was the signatory to the same account.
We have seen the revelation of the Ecological funds, but we forget that it was not only in Plateau that Ecological fund was provided, today we have disaster zones due to erosion, desertification problems, nobody has offered any satisfactory explanation. At a forum I defined the Ecological fund as the 'Eko lo ji' of PDP an abused Yoruba interpretation means the pap that PDP stole while we were looking the other way. I am sure we never would know anything of the fund if Governor Dariye was not targeted and today the breeze that blew has opened the fowl's buttocks on that fund. I wonder why other State Governors that contributed money into PDP's slush accounts have not been caught.
Earlier in the year I had spoken with Mallam Ribadu and he said that what appalled him was the blatant crude way some of these Governors went about their looting. However, he confirmed my fear about the intelligent ones amongst the Governors, when he said that some had stolen so much but he and his men just could not trace it, Naija for show. Very few of these Governors have been able to prove their innocence beyond the regular Public Relations stunt and in some cases some of them have dragged their own god into, so statements such as "my God will vindicate me, my God will shame my enemies” and my god this, my god that. I have asked what kind of god facilitates rigging, arson, stealing of public funds and still protect one. I need to know that god.
From multi-billion Naira poultry to fish farms, roads constructed at outrageous amounts, to those who achievements are the building of gates to the only University in the State at millions while others simply have kept their State legislators happy through foreign trips, this fiscal year a particular Governor gave State Legislators N690m travel budget ($5.4m with $2.8m earmarked for foreign travel) with another $2.8M for entertainment. Others have in the guise of religion, sharia, and building mosque to siphon money. This is a sad commentary of our democracy.
While we complain, and while we acknowledge that these men called Governors have torn the system, is it not time we review our monetary system, how is that these men have access to such huge amount of monies, is it not the lucrative nature of the business of a Governor that will make a distinguished Senator want to be Governor. What manner of people are we, Atiku said Obasanjo should allow Nigerians to decide who would be President but not long ago he swore that he either become President, or he goes to jail, or he dies. I am waiting to see which unfolds.
Governors, whose parents cannot vouch for, rent crowds of hungry youths, jobless elders to endorse them for second term and organize all sorts of awards. I know a Governor who’s State has been torn into pieces by all forms of crisis winning the Best Crisis Manager and Peace Awards. Take this as a sample, in one of the resource control State, the Governor's office budget was N10.7billion and to imagine that in that same State Health got N2.8billion. For that Governor his transport allocation was set at N3b this year that is at an approximate of $60,000 a day, this even exceeds the President's travel allocation.
We know of a Governor whose personal budget provides for gifts, grants at a rate of $100,000 every working day, while N500m is for souvenirs for Visitors to Government House.
The other part of these comedies of error is the EFCC and the government, I often ask has the EFCC been able to rise above board, the blanket clearance given Mr. President is one I know too well is faulty, the coincidence that known friends of the President have escaped the hammer, while those who fall out with the President are quickly accused. Also I quickly must add that two wrongs do not make a right.
The EFCC can do better than the disregard they accord the law courts and orders emanating from them. It is easy to prove that a public official is corrupt without going the jungle way, for example these Governors are no ghosts, we know them, we know who they are, where they are coming from, despite all the latest song of they were not all poor before they became Governors, we know better, Alams said he bought a house in South Africa in anticipation of accommodation boom during the World Cup by 2010, yet that business sense could not be used in transforming Bayelsa.
Going by the monetization programme, a Governor earns N889,482,000 annually, he has all kinds of allowances, from Housing, to Leave, from Constituency allowance and one funny one called Hardship allowance all ranging from 10%-100% of his annual salary. This should be ordinarily plenty money but it is peanuts for our Excellencies. And you think you and I do not deserve to be Governors. With all these monies our Governors still live above their earnings and we know, we do not need EFCC, we need a mechanism, a community based review system that works instantum.
I challenge these excellencies to drive in a small Honda car without escorts, without a convoy of the ten to twenty car as the case may be, let them feel the pulse of their States, let them feel the heart beat of posterity in a prophetic manner. Very few of them would escape being lynched, very few would say that I am clean, in fact the same law that is being breached in getting them out, is also the same law they had also breached at one time or the other, it certainly and sadly goes round. Our Excellencies, EFCC, anyway, which way, Nigerians deserve better, this comedy must stop, it is no longer funny.
PoliticsRe: State Of Emergency In Ekiti? by segoye2(m): 9:26am On Oct 21, 2006
Well, all I could say here is that this country is becoming so lawless. If OBJ could steal or hide government money as the nation is made to understand by Atiku, why is Mr. Nigeria 2 telling us now that they have just some political difference?,  Well on Ekiti State, is just a reminder to us how bad our country is, and how bad and bad it will continue to be. Meanwhile, Everyone in the government today needed to be audited, I mean even the EFCC.
I just hope this madness will not move from one state to another like that of Ladoja --- Platue --- Ekiti,  I pray it doesnt come down to Delta State oooo because huuuuummmmmmmmmmm,  CNN will show all the Lapses in our in our Demo - CRAZY.
A nation where lions are killed like mosquitoes,  Landers lets,  PRAY OOOO.

A Nation That Disrespects Her National Anthem (II)

By Prince C Dickson - pcdbooks@yahoo.com - October 19, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arise O Compatriots, Nigeria call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labour of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

O God of creation, direct our noble cause
Guide thou our leaders right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

This is the concluding part of my two part take on the National Anthem, the first part I had dwelt on the National Pledge which is an integral part of the National Anthem, in this concluding part I will crave the indulgence of us all as Nigerians to ask questions, some of which include can this project called Nigeria work, is it working, are we willing to make it work? I personally have an irrevocable belief in this nation but then collectively as a people and as a nation are we respecting the symbol of our nationhood.

I will start from a very unlikely end, in the United States , Congressman Mark Foley was forced to resign over sexual suggestive e-mails he sent to young interns on his staff, when announcing his resignation he apologized, through his lawyer he equally said he as receiving treatment for alcoholism. Away from all other factors of the entire episode, I bring out the following questions, would any Nigerian Senator resign, ? Would anyone of them in the National Assembly accept that he had a problem that required treatment? Are we ready to accept that we need to take a break and reflect, reappraise and, address issues that are mundane like the National Anthem yet unavoidably the instrument of nationhood?

Is it not a fact that between our leaders and the led, there is an abnormal level of greed, vengeance and unattainable ambition, and a psycho quest for power that requires medical attention? The problems of this nation is not because citizenry has refused to arise to obey the Nigeria call, we have allowed politicians to obey their insatiable lust for money and power, greed and gluttonous living?

Question is, are we really out to serve Nigeria, lets ask, in the last one week, what one thing have we done for the benefit of Nigeria, despite the fact that the nation has not done much for us? In our experimental democracy, is it not true that leadership has only served themselves? It is safe to conclude from the actions of our leaders and we that are led that the driving force is hate for ourselves, weakness at taking the right decision, weakness at moving towards the opposite direction and it cannot be really argued that we have lost faith.

Our heroes past, yes, our heroes, is it not true that we today have very few if any heroes to look up to, let me continue, would Nigeria any time soon replace Wole Soyinka, who is the new and young Chike Obi? Politically the present breed of politicians who are better described as jobmen. The labours of our heroes are they not in vain now.

Nigeria today is one which no one serves with his/her heart for fear that when you need her most she would let you down, are we not bothered with the increasing number of Nigerian Ibo-Americans, Yoruba-British, Ijaw/Urohbo-Italians and Germans, Arabian-Nigerians, do we really care about Nigerians that today serve Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Japan, Gabon, Ethiopia and Ghana with their heart and might only to send Western Union Money transfer to those they left behind and this is when they remember God of creation.

I shake my head sadly and hold my cheeks reflectively because our nation is not bound by freedom, hardly any state in the federation that has not witnessed a skirmish or two, all manner of freedom is alien, we fight for freedom of movement, freedom to know how we are led, freedom to life is deprived us, everything happens like magic, peace has eluded us, that is why we are shamelessly talking of passing a terrorist bill, who is terrorizing who, if need be it should be citizens passing that bill against leadership.

Unity is a far cry, so the nation is certainly not one, we have many nations, which by my own reckoning is not bad at all if they were bound together by the common values of freedom, peace and unity, rather our diversity is destroying us, we fill forms, rather than our capability and merit, it is our local government, our state of origin that counts most, so the partition is one aided and abetted consciously or otherwise by us and no one else.

The National Anthem that some of us recite, was written by five persons, I mean the words were a collation from the first five in a national competition, and those five persons then were picked as the best on merit, the National item is not a Muslim or Christian song, neither is an ethnic group chant of Egbe Omo Oduduwa or Igbo Kwenu, it was written as a bond of unity. Do we know that the Police so ridiculed and now messed up, the same Police that produced Tafa Balogun, the same Police whose ID card today is N20 gave the musical composition of the National Anthem through its Police Band.

The second stanza is of importance because of the mention of our youths, sadly we see what has become of our youths, the often touted leaders of tomorrow. They suffer unemployment, they see as government render their parents redundant, the government and leadership treats them in a lazaire faire manner, the only driving force for them is poverty and this is either positive or negative, in many cases negative. They grow up and are living witness that truth is bad investment, and negative capital in their nation.

They grow up in hate, lies and see injustice as a normal norm of their society, lofty heights can only be attained by theft, corruption, and so the y scheme their way to that top by all and any means necessary, a really sad future because leadership under the guise of elders and politics use them in destroying peace, and creating injustice blindly.

Is it surprising that people mock the National Anthem through the Pledge, I pledge to Nigeria my Country, to serve her is not by force, is it not true that if our flag is torn in our presence we would just walk on, Is it not shameful that most so-called big corporate players have dirty and torn flags of the Nation flying at dead mast in their headquarters? Will we be shocked that half the Police, a quarter of the National Assembly, a tenth of Ministers and 25% of literate Nigerians cannot recite the National Anthem?

Do we blame Obasanjo', is it PDP or PTDF’s fault, is it because of Fayose, Dariye or Alams, sure it cannot be Buhari, nor Atiku's fault; we cannot blame Wabara and Osuji for this flaw on our part. It is our collective failure and until we can go back to the point we lost these lines, in them a lot is embedded.

I leave us with the predecessor of the National Anthem written by a British expatriate, "Nigeria We Hail Thee". It is rich and often one has wondered why it was thrown away. the last paragraph is my summary: Almighty Allah Grant this our one request, help us to build a nation where no man is oppressed and so, with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed.

Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all, and proud to serve
our sovereign motherland.

Our flag shall be a symbol,
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honoured,
And this we count as gain
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain

O Lord of all creation,
Grant this our one request
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed
And so, with peace and plenty,
Nigeria may be blessed

Jobs/VacanciesRe: "I Need a Job" Threads & Resume Posting Welcome Here by segoye2(m): 7:26pm On Oct 20, 2006
@ Seun,
Thank you for giving Landers such opportunities to reach to one another. I must confess here that more than 6 persons that I know around here are working right now, one of them called me yesterday night to inform me that she is currently doing her Graduate Training with Glo Nigeria. Man is really a big dream you are executing here. HOw I wish we could have 20 more of your type, I know Nigerian (though those that are into internet browsing) will have to much reason to say they are jobless because here, all you have created is allowing us to share Ideas, Advert, and lots more.
@ All,
I will advice that we shouldn't upload our CV's to our post anymore because of some reasons I already wrote about in one of my post "Using your CV to buy Credit Cards". I must make it clear here that am not saying the Forum Admin, Seun will use it, but what am trying to point out is that, we have lots of 419ners around searching from forum to forum. To be on a save side, we don't need upload our CV's, we all know that if advert comes out, we will always see it abi?
Meanwhile, we don't need to worry if we are one of those that uploaded our CV, I believe Mr. Seun is reading this post, and I believe there is a way those post could be edited, but if no way to remove the post from it, we can still leave it that way but work against future mistakes. Though I read that is meant for the purpose of Uploading your Cv's, But I still think it shouldn't be done that way, I stand to be corrected.
When it comes to your turn, everything will begin to turn for you.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Immigration Form Number? by segoye2(m): 8:36pm On Oct 08, 2006
Hello Landers,

Well the immigration form cannot be sent via email address. I mean to the Immigration office. All you need do is try get the form from one of the links here on Nairaland. You can't access the form online again because I guess the download is slowing down the speed on their site.

After you fill in the form, though they are 2. one for B.Sc holders while the other for HND below. if you are applying for B.Sc (Supritendent) you need submit your form to The Director/Secretary, Civil Defence, Prisons and Immigration Service Board, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

While Applicant's for Inspectorate and Assistant Cadre (HND, OND, etc) are to send it to Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Abuja or all NIS state commands.

Bellow is a guideline for the form. Try Download it, though is on Acrobatic Reader. Meanwhile we have only tomorrow and maybe day after because the closing date is on 11th of October.

You can send your application to the state command in your state,

@ Seun
I read somewhere in the business forum about the e-gold scammer Vin, something. There I got to know the admin of this forum Nairaland (seun) Man you have done a great job. Is not easy to make this kind of big dream come to reality. Am proud of you and am sure landers do too.

@ firstgirl,
Where you asked of your form number? pls try explan more on your point form number.

I wish us all goodluck
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Tips On How To Know The Owner Of The Site You Are Currenly Viewing! by segoye2(op): 7:02pm On Oct 07, 2006
Why most a Consultant have yahoo address instead of their website mail address? Though it might be yahoo, but will take a shape of say info@thesite.com

If anyone says his an agent or sometime, Tell him to send you his company name / profile.

Ask for their mobile number. Meanwhile, a real agent will have a genuie email address not. You will know this folly email addresses when u see them.

Above all, Any online agency online is pay after service. That is if you are not rendered any service, I know you won't have to pay.

Someone offering a job should have done tha before. I mean have recruited some persons before. So if you are given such an offer of a job, watch out for the may's and maynot. because most of this job agents are just trying to make their living. They gat no Job.

I hope to post more info soonest. I just gat to catch up with something right away.

Christianity EtcRe: The Photo Of The Bleeding Statue Of Jesus Christ In Warri by segoye2(m): 2:52am On Oct 07, 2006
@ Charlisco,
Thanks for your information. The picture here though is not Jesus of Nazareth, Is Jesus of Warri. and maybe that of Delta State. Why does Christ has to cry because of Warri? Why not somewhere else? Ok! if our sins are much, What is it that has heppened in Warri or Nigeria that has not happened in somewhere else? Why no christ shed his blood again in Isreal seeing The Isreal Nation killing the innocent hesbolla? You see, faith is based on what you have seen. Any doctrine that is not bible based is not of God. That Image is an Image, and an Image is an Idol or god, While worshiping of any image representing any form is against Jehovahs will.
Even the scripture states that this blood shall be she only once. Not twice, or from city to city.
People say is a sign. You mean no more men of God that God will use as a medium rather than using a mere culpture which some sinners mold?
I just believe that it has some spiritual force. Devil is mocking Our Jehovah for allowing his son to die for us. we can help Devil out in his plans if we contribute to the mockery. That is a mere Image and not our Christ. Moreover, Christ was not crusified here in Nigeria so why shed tears in Warri. If it has happened before around you, my advice to you is don't believe it. Jehovah will appreciate just that.
And watch out, I bet he is going to bleed more in Aso Rock (ABUJA) if only we have the kind of his Image there.
Jobs/VacanciesIntroduction To Job Application / Selecting A Referee by segoye2(op): 10:14pm On Oct 06, 2006
A job application is a tool that allows employers to learn about a job applicant’s work experience, skills, and education. Employers use the job application to compare and contrast applicants and decide which one is best for the job.
For many employers, a completed job application is the first step in the hiring process. Some employers require job applicants to submit an application and a resume. Others may not require one at all. However, when an application is requested, it’s an important part of the employment process and should be taken seriously.
Fill it out completely.
You may be required to fill out a job application on site, so be prepared to respond to all questions. Make sure to use N/A (not applicable) when a section does not apply to you.
Be neat.
When finished, your application should be clearly written in blue or black ink, and most importantly, free of errors.
Answers to Common Job Application Questions
Use the following tips to answer commonly-asked job application questions.
Have you ever been convicted of a violation of law other than minor traffic violations? If yes, explain.
Here, indicate whether or not you have been convicted of a crime (other than minor traffic violations) in civil or military courts. If you have not been convicted, write, “no.”

If you have a conviction on your record, write, “yes, see attachment” and supply a typed explanation. Include the nature of the offense, the date of conviction, location where convicted, and disposition (sentence, probation, etc.).
What position do you desire?
Indicate the position for which you are applying. Don’t leave this section blank or write "Any" or "Open". If you do not know the job title, write the department name. If you are applying for more than one job, ask if you should fill out more than one job application. Be ready to supply first and second choices with positions and geographic location.
Why are you interested in working for us?
To stand out from the rest of the applicant pool, research to find out more about the position, the organization's philosophy, and work environment.
More Answers to Common Job Application Questions
Chronicle your employment history.
For each employer, include name of employer, mailing and street address, phone number, title and the type of work performed, dates of employment, supervisor’s name, title, and contact information. If you are currently employed, write “present.” Also, be ready to explain any gaps in employment history over 90 days.
What are your salary requirements?
Write your last wage, salary rate, or salary range. If you’re not sure, write “competitive,” “negotiable,” or “open.”
Drug-free workplace.
If you see this phrase on a job application, expect to take and pass a drug test in order to be hired.
Want to get an idea of what different employers may be asking on job applications? Visit some companies and ask for an application. Or, search online for different samples.

What is a Reference?
If an employer is considering hiring you, he or she may ask you to supply a list of references. A reference is a person who, if asked, is willing to discuss your skills, abilities, job performance, and general character. Potential employers contact these references and ask a few questions about your former job title, dates of employment, duties, dependability, or productivity.
To improve your chances of getting a job, choose references who:
Are educated.
Are well-spoken.
Are thoroughly familiar with your skills and abilities.
Have a mutually respectful, working relationship with you.
Will speak positively about your work performance.
Remember, potential employers want to hear more than, “She’s very nice.”
Who is a Candidate?
Reference candidates may tell you they are not comfortable being used as a reference. By asking them ahead of time, they have a choice in the matter, and you can be assured that your references will be positive ones.
Possible reference candidates:
Current or former boss, manager, or supervisor
Current or former coworkers
Teachers or professors
Landlord
Fellow volunteer
Not a reference candidate:
Spouse or significant other
Family members
As a general rule, don’t list your immediate family members. They aren’t familiar with your work performance and most employers expect they’ll give a positive opinion.

Include your personal information.
Include your information at the top of the page. Your list of references may become separated from your job application or resume.
Use quality paper stock.
Again, use the same paper stock you used for your resume. If you don’t have a resume, quality white or cream computer paper will do.
Providing References
"References available upon request" is a phrase commonly listed at the bottom of resumes. However, hiring managers expect that you have references, so you may omit this phrase if you wish.
Because your list contains a great deal of personal infomation, it's common practice not to give out your list of references to potential employers unless you are asked. Employers may ask job applicants for references when filling out a job application or during an interview.
Before You List Anyone As a Reference, Ask
Always ask potential candidates if they will be a reference for you. If you've chosen correctly, your references should be happy to talk about your work performance. Better yet, when contacted, they'll be prepared.
Be aware that some employers can only give out your job title and dates of employment to future employers. If this is the case, be prepared to secure other references who can talk about your work performance.
How to ask for a reference:
Explain the type of work you are looking for.
Ask, "Are you comfortable being a reference for me?"
If they say yes:
Ask them for the following information (don't forget spelling):
First and last name
Title
Employer
Employer's street and/or mailing address
Phone number(s)
Email address (optional)
Then:
Provide them with a copy of your resume.
Tell them you will not use them unless an offer has been extended.
Ask them to call you if they are contacted.
Send them a thank you note or thank them in person.
Make sure any information you list is current. Potential employers won't spend time tracking down your references.
Jobs/VacanciesIntroduction To Interviews by segoye2(op): 9:31pm On Oct 06, 2006
Introduction to Interviews
Generally speaking, an interview is a formal, face-to-face meeting between an employer and a job applicant, and is necessary to secure a professional-level position. The employer asks questions to assess the qualifications of a job applicant and determines if he or she is the best candidate. The applicant both answers and asks questions to learn more about the employer and the position itself.

Life cycle of an interview:
A job applicant learns of an open position and submits a resume and cover letter with the hope of being contacted for an interview.

Human resources department or hiring manager reviews resumes and cover letters. They determine a pool of potential candidates and call to schedule interviews.

An interview occurs between hiring personnel (interviewer) and the candidate (interviewee).

More than one interview may occur before a hiring decision is made.

Interview Formats
There are many ways to conduct an interview. Interview formats vary according to position, organization, and field, so it's difficult to know what to expect. And because multiple interviews are becoming more common, you may experience one or more interview format before a job offer is extended.

To best prepare for an interview, begin by familiarizing yourself with different interview formats:

Informational interview
Screening interview
Telephone interview
Behavioral interview
Situational interview
Informal interview
Panel interview
Peer group interview
Group interview

Informational, Screening, and Telephone Interviews
A part of the networking process, job seekers often set up informational interviews with people they know that may be able to help them in their job search. This type of interview is really more of a relaxed, friendly meeting.

Used to determine which candidates meet necessary qualifications, screening interviews can be conducted on the phone or face-to-face. These interviews are sometimes less formal than a traditional interview. For example, a member of the human resources department might conduct the interview rather than the person making the hiring decision. In either case, make your best impression to increase your chances of securing a second interview.

Telephone interviews are particularly useful when a candidate lives far from the site of the interview. After a successful telephone interview, a prospective candidate may be invited to a face-to-face, traditional interview.

Panel, Peer Group, and Group Interviews
During a panel interview, members of an organization interview candidates one-by-one. This way, each member can ask specific questions and form an opinion about the candidate. Candidates shouldn't worry about repeating information; always fully answer questions. Don't leave important information out.

Peer group interviews are similar to panel interviews, except several members of an organization interview candidates at once. Often, these people are members of a team with which the candidate would be working.

In a group interview, employers invite several candidates to a single meeting and present them with a problem situation. This way, they can gain a sense of candidates' teamwork and leadership abilities.

The Importance of Research
Once you've experienced the joy of having secured a job interview, you may feel anxious as the big day approaches. For example, you may wonder, "What do I do?" "What do I say?" "What should I wear?" "What if I make a mistake?" Don't worry; it's natural to feel this way, but don't let your fears take over. The best way to ease your mind is to prepare for the interview.
To sell your skills and experience to an employer, discover what their needs are. How do you do that? Research. Keep accurate notes to avoid quoting erroneous information to a potential employer.
When researching, consider the following:
What are the company's major products and services?

Who are the company's customers?

Who are the company's major competitors? How do they view the company?

How is the company viewed in the marketplace? Is it a profitable business or are they on the brink of bankruptcy?

Find out two of the company's recent success stories.

What are the company's potential problems?

Is the company publicly or privately owned? Is it independent or part of a larger organization?

What's the size of the company? Big? Small? Are they hiring? Have they recently laid people off?

What's the corporate culture (work environment) like? Is it traditional or more relaxed?

Where is the company located?

What is the employee turnover rate? Do people work in teams or alone?

Why is the position open? Was it newly created? Why did the last person leave?

What are the duties and expectations associated with the job?
Tell me about yourself.
Employers ask this question for a variety of reasons. Some may want to hear a brief summary of your work experience (including your current job), while others use it as an icebreaker to get a sense of your personality. Many human resources professionals recommend keeping it brief, stating two professional accomplishments and one personal fact. What you choose to say, and how you say it, says a great deal about you.
What is your greatest weakness?
Most of us would like to respond, " I don't have any," but that's not what the interviewer wants to hear. After all, who doesn't have a weakness? However, be cautious. Think about what you want to reveal. Pick a weakness that is not important in this job, or one that you have taken steps to strengthen. Always try to transform your weakness into a strength.
What attracted you to the company/position? Why do you want to work for us?
Interviewers ask this question to find out how much you know about the company. Having done your company research, talk about the needs of the company or business and how your skill set can contribute to their goals. Talk about your work experiences and how they have prepared you for this particular position. Also, point out your own career goals.
Describe a conflict with a manager or coworker. How was it resolved?
Everyone has experienced workplace conflict at some point. The interviewer is assessing your ability to solve problems and interact with others. Don't use this as an opportunity to say negative things about your former manager, state the problem and describe steps you took to resolve the issue. Do not state that you have never had a conflict: it is too unbelievable.
Why are you changing jobs/careers?
If you are in fact changing careers, be prepared for this question. Interviewers will want to know if you have thoroughly researched your new career, and are not switching jobs on a regular basis. Stress how your skills can transfer to your new career.
Are you interviewing with other companies?
Interviews might try to find out if they need to act quickly. Don't mention any specifics. Say that you are extremely interested in the company, but are keeping your options open.
What kind of compensation/salary are you seeking?
Usually, a first interview is not the time to discuss salary. An interviewer may just be testing you to see how you react. At this point, it's best to say that it's negotiable or that you're interested in a competitive salary.
How to Handle Difficult Interview Situations
Gaps in employment history.
Be prepared to explain any gaps in your employment history. While the gaps may be undeniable, it doesn't mean you lack necessary qualifications. Try to put the gap in a positive light. For example, explain that your leave from work provided the time to make some decisions about your life and career. Highlight any skills gained or used during that absence. Now is the time to talk about your return to school or volunteer work. If you continued your involvement with professional organizations, be sure to mention it.
Personal questions.
Under federal and state laws, it's illegal to discriminate against applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, citizenship, disability, and age. In twelve states, it's illegal to discriminate against sexual orientation. twenty-four states prohibit discrimination on the basis of marital status. Therefore, any questions regarding these topics are inappropriate, illegal, and have nothing to do with whether or not you can perform essential functions of a job.
Sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment is illegal, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. If you feel an interviewer is being improper, end the interview as quickly as possible and don't consider them as a potential employer. If you were hired, chances are the situation wouldn't improve. Consider reporting the incident to the company's senior management.
Your Questions
Once an employer finishes with their questions, they'll ask you if you have any questions. Don't make the mistake of saying no. Employers are usually happy to answer questions you may have. They want to be sure you would be happy and productive in your new position, and you can take this opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and interest in the company.
Here are some ideas:
When is the start date?
What do you enjoy most about working here?
What is the company policy on providing seminars, workshops, and training?
What are the day-to-day responsibilities of the job?
Why is the position open? Was it newly created? Why did the last person leave?
How are evaluations done? How would I get feedback on performance?
Is there opportunity for career advancement? Does the company believe in promoting competent individuals from within?
What is the management style?
Can you describe the perfect employee?
Questions that pertain to the position that haven't been answered yet.
Jobs/VacanciesBeware Of Dark Alleyways In Public Places by segoye2(op): 7:50pm On Oct 06, 2006
The Internet Is A Public Gathering Place
The Internet can be a wonderful place to find newsworthy topics, public service, online shopping, and the list goes on. You can pursue hobbies, plan vacations, and much more. But it can also be a frightening place where con artists, pornographers, racists, and others lurk in search for unsuspecting people to prey on.
Who is legitimate and who is not? Who is friendly to talk to and who is not? Many of us are not Web-savvy enough to know the dangers. And even more experienced, possibly overconfident users still get enticed into scams or other predicaments.
The Internet can be a dangerous place.
Web sites want to know more information about you. Some sites ask that you provide information on forms in order to display or get something you want. Other download a cookie to your computer and track where you go on the site, or which remember information that you have previously given the site. With this in mind, teach your children to never provide any information about yourself -- particularly your home address, telephone number, or a photograph of yourself -- without first checking with you, their parents.
The bottom line is that you can't be 100% sure the people that you contact on the Internet. It is best to visit only those sites that you know are legitimate. And never provide personal information at the expense of your privacy.

You Can't Teach Others Without Knowing the Subject Matter Yourself
Many adults are intimidated by the Internet -- steadfast in their refusal to provide a credit card to a well-known Web site. But if children are going to use the Internet, parents had better understand the issues and the safety steps to help keep their children safe.
The Internet brings the world -- good and bad -- into our living rooms. There are many ways to learn about the Internet, how to use it, and how to find information on it. Visit a library. Enroll in a GCF Global Learning® course. Then, practice firsthand. Don't know what a chat room is? Visit one and chat with somebody. Don't know what a message board is? Visit one and practice using it. You won't break your computer. You won't hurt any Web sites. You need to do your homework. And understand how your children are using the Internet.

Risks Facing Children When Browsing the Internet
Your children face many risks while browsing the Internet. Some of the more dangerous Web sites or exposures are listed below:
Unsuitable Web Site Content -- it is very easy to access pornographic, violence, and online gambling sites on the Internet.
Privacy Intrusion --- Some children may give out private information, such as credit card information, password, personal information about themselves or their family.
Stalking or Harassment -- People can hide their true identity on the Web. Your children can't know for sure if they are conversing with a 13 year-old or a 40 year-old. Some might even attempt to arrange a meeting with your child.
Hackers and Viruses -- You've probably heard stories of worms and viruses running wild and wreaking havoc on the Internet. Or the story where some hacker broke into a Web site and stole credit card numbers. Make sure you children know the dangers of downloading files from email or the Internet.

Guidelines for Parents
As parents, you need to take responsibility for your children's activities online and minimize their risks of getting involved with dangerous situations while on the Internet. Consider the following proactive steps:
Learn Everything You Can About the Internet -- Learn how your children are using the Internet. Sit with them and teach them how to use it. Teach them how to research their homework. Ask them to show you good places they have found. Make the Internet a family experience.
Set Standards For What Your Children Can and Cannot Do Online -- Set reasonable expectations. Don't be a tyrant. Understand their needs, interests, and curiosity. Come to consensus. Monitor their compliance with these rules, especially when it comes to the amount of time your children spend on the computer.
Keep Personal Information Private - Teach your children to never give out personal information -- home address, school name, or telephone number -- in public message areas such as chat or bulletin boards.
Encourage Your Children to Come to You if They Encounter a Problem Online -- Teach your children that it is OK for them to come to you if they meet somone online who is asking a lot of personal questions, trying to arrange a meeting, or threatening them. Don't be angry that something happened; your response will determine whether they come to you the next time and confide in you.
Consider Blocking, Filtering, and Rating Content -- Services are available that rate Web sites for content and either filter programs or block certain types of information. Remember that no software is 100% foolproof and no filtering program is a substitute for good judgment.

Key Rules for Internet Use at Home
Here are some simple rules you may want to consider before letting your children have unsupervised access to the Internet:
Keep the computer in a common room with lots of traffic, not in a child's bedroom or a secluded area of the house. Get to know their "online friends" just as you get to know all of their other friends.
Create a family "terms of use" agreement, clearly stating what children can or cannot do on the Internet, i.e. Tell them not to give out private information and what sites they cannot visit. Ask them to save emails and give you access to their files, etc.
Install a filtering, monitoring, or blocking feature to manage your family's Internet traffic.
Install anti-virus software to scan all downloaded files before opening. Teach your children how to be aware of viruses in emails. Warn your children of the inherent dangers present in downloads.

Email
Spam
When it comes to email, the biggest invasion of privacy is spam or unsolicited junk mail. Increasingly, people and companies send mass email mailings to thousands of people to try and get them to buy something, get them job(s) or to visit a Web site. Consider the following:
According to a recent MSNBC article (opens in a new browser window), MessageLabs Inc. is referenced as saying that 2/3 of all email traffic is spam.
McAfee reports (opens in a new browser window) that "49% of Americans spend more than 40 minutes per week deleting spam, with 14% reporting they spend as much as three and a half hours a week -- or 7.5 days per year -- on this task."
In general, it's best not to respond to spam or mail from someone you do not know. Certainly, don't follow any links or purchase products that were advertised in this mail. By responding, you tell the sender that your email is in fact valid. Frequently, you may find your email address on even more lists. And more lists mean more spam.
You don't know who sent the unsolicited email. The presence of a return address does not mean that it's a legitimate email address. So never send a photograph of yourself or any personal information -- including credit card information -- to someone you don't know. And never buy anything advertised via spam, even if it is a good offer.
Report any activity that appears to be illegal to EFCC (Though I don't know how reliable they are still)
File Attachments
If you receive an unsolicited commercial message, you should not open any attached file whose name ends in ".exe." Clicking on such files could activate a computer virus that might affect how your computer operates and/or damage the information stored on your computer. You can also protect yourself against viruses carried by e-mail or by computer files that you've received on a floppy disk, by purchasing and installing on your computer or network a virus-protection program.
Delete any email that contains suspicious file attachments.

Hackers
As we rely more and more on computers, and continue to put sensitive information onto them, the potential for hackers to break into them and steal or destroy personal and financial information grows. This is particularly true if you have a cable modem or DSL connection, where your IP address rarely changes. You are essentially always online, even though you may not be browsing on the Internet.
Hackers use automated tools like IP address searches to look for computers connected to the Internet. Once found, they attempt break in and then take control of the computer, allowing them to interrupt service and/or commit identity theft.
Am going to post more information about Hackers and Hacking soon!!!.
You can also protect your computer by using a firewall utility. We'll discuss this option in greater detail in Module 16 of this course.

Identity Theft
It's fairly easy for criminals to obtain personal data. Have you seen the commercial where the guy is looking through his neighbor's trash can to find a payroll receipt? How many of us simply throw this or credit card and bank statements in the garbage without thinking? It's probably more than anyone would care to admit. These records make it easy for criminals to get control over accounts in your name and assume your identity.
Identity theft occurs when someone obtains and then uses your personal information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. Such activities may include fraudulent use of credit cards, fraudulent withdrawals from bank accounts, or false applications for loans and credit cards.
The Internet has become a very attractive place for scammers or criminals to obtain such information as passwords and banking information. Unfortunately, home users frequently give out personal information if requested. Families broadcast their email on the Internet, respond to spam, or even become the target of hacking attacks.
What To Do If You Are A Target of Identity Theft Or Fraud
Act immediately if you think you've become a victim of identity theft! Quick action will minimize the extent of damage to your personal funds and financial accounts.
File a complaint on EFCC Official Website (www.efccnigeria.org)
If you send in your account Informations or Credit Card information, Contact all creditors and financial institutions of those accounts that have been tampered or opened fraudulently.
Monitor your mail and credit-card bills for evidence of new fraudulent activity (If you got any).
File a police report.
Top 10 Ways to Avoid Becoming a Victim Of Identity Theft
Don't give out personal information to others.
Check your financial information regularly.
Periodically request a copy of your credit report.
Maintain careful records of your banking and financial accounts.
Update your virus protection software regularly, or when a new virus alert is announced.
Do not download files sent to you by strangers or click on hyperlinks from people you don't know.
Use a firewall program, especially if you use a high-speed Internet connection like cable modem or DSL.
Use a secure browser -- software that encrypts or scrambles information you send over the Internet -- to guard the security of your online transactions.
Try not to store financial information on your computer unless absolutely necessary.
Look for Web site privacy policies.

Here are some tips.
If anyone tells you he/she has a job to offer or is a consultant or something, first ask him of his Location, Phone number, company profile and above all website address.
Meanwhile, You can know the owner of any website, when it was created, when it will expire, the admin information, and lots more if you follow this tips:-
type www.godaddy.com on a new browser or internet explorer.
as soon as it opens go daddy page, on the Domain Search Box,
type the name of the site excluding www. and from the front drop-down, select if is .com , .org, .net , .mil or dot whatever.
click Go.
----- It will open a window where you will be notified that the domain is already taken. Instead of typing another website address, click on (click here for info)
It will open a new browser and this new browser (Whois Privacy Statement), on the right conner of the middle page, you will be asked to fill in a given numbers usually 6  like (23878290) then click OK or enter.

AND TO ALL AOL EXPLORER USERS, is easy while on AOL. All you need do is click on the Security on your AOL Explorer and select who owns this site.

In despiration to get something doing, Nigerians search for jobs like tomorrow will never come.
And lately, what they do is forward their CV's to any advert. They don't even care if is a Yahoo Yahoo Advert.
But, I appreciate that here in Nairaland, Landers search properly before posting their CV's. Though some post even not minding what the consiquence will look like. But one thing I must say here is sending you CV is more deadly than death itself.
I want to ask Landers if they have heard about Identity Theft before?
Yah, someone might resume your Identity somewhere in the world while you are still here searching for Job in Nigeria. Is funny to some I know, while lots of Landers here are aware of online identity theft.
For instance, if you want to buy a credit card (getting a credit card), you don't even need be there. All you need do is supply them with you information. And when the case arises that you must be there, this Identity Theft Operators can claim they are buying the card for their brother or sister. With you CV, One can buy a credit card and incure 40-60 thousand credit or interest which even a white man can not pay in 20 years. Jobs/VacanciesTips On How To Know The Owner Of The Site You Are Currenly Viewing! by segoye2(op): 2:55pm On Oct 05, 2006
Brethren,
How are we all doing. I read through so many comments of job seekers on our naira land. And one thing is sure that almost all job seekers are afraid of Reapers. Yah, Yahoo boys are out there, some are even on the naira land. But we can cope and detect them.
Right in front of you, you have all the informations you need about all this their funny sites.
AND TO ALL AOL EXPLORER USERS, is easy while on AOL. All you need do is click on the Security on your AOL Explorer and select who owns this site.
Its worth trying and If it works for you, remember to teach others too.
