The path of honour

Exactly what Siasia should have done when the Super Eagles failed to qualify for AFCON 2012 instead of lobbying and fighting tooth & nail to remain on the job.

Too bad the Falcons recorded their worst ever performance in the AWC under Kadiri Ikhanna who has some impressive achievements under his belt.

Education › 2,000 Fake Teachers Uncovered In Kaduna Public Schools by semid4lyfe(op): 8:08am On Nov 11, 2012
Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State said on Saturday that the recent verification exercise by the state government has revealed no fewer than 2,000 teachers with fake certificates employed in public schools.

Mr. Yakowa disclosed this at the second National Joint Graduation ceremony of the National Teachers’ Institute in Kaduna.

He noted that nearly 50 per cent of the fake teachers lacked the required teaching qualification.

He said that in the effort to improve the education sector, the state government had designed a road map that would assist in achieving the desired change.

“The road map is aimed at addressing teacher quality through capacity building, infrastructural development, increasing access and provision of facilities, new quality assurance system and the development of tertiary institutions owned by the state government.”

He stressed the need to enhance teachers’ education, quality and professional development in order to transform the education sector, adding that such measure would help transform other sectors.

“Teacher quality dictates the success of any educational pursuits and that is why we agree totally with the national policy on education which says: No nation rises above the quality of its teachers.”

According to him, the state government has also enacted a law on quality control in the pursuit of quality teaching that can deliver the required development of children.

“We have not spared any effort in ensuring that our teachers are exposed to best practice through continuous training.

“We have also established benchmarks for literacy and numeracy at the primary school level to ensure that only the best and the most qualified teacher remains in the classroom.”

Mr. Yakowa said the state government had also revised the procedure for the appointment of educational secretaries at the local government level.

He said this would de-politicise the appointment process and ensure that only the most qualified professionals were recruited.

The governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to the ‘Almajiri’ school system being championed by the Federal Government.

“The significance of the establishment of the Almajiri School is to cater for the large number of `Almajiris’ in the state and to prepare them for integration into the larger society.”

He, therefore, called on the people to assist the government to sustain peace, unity and meaningful development in the state.

“We are deeply worried by the spate of security challenges that pervades our society today.

“Kaduna State, and indeed, Nigeria need peace and harmony for purposeful growth and development.

“We are calling on all concerned parties to come forward for dialogue and to stop all forms of bickering and violence. ”

The Kano State government in collaboration with Niger Republic has concluded arrangements to build a mega secondary school in Niamey, Niger Republic as part of the bi-lateral agreement signed by both parties some months ago.

In a statement by the Director of Press to the governor, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, under the arrangement, Kano State will build hostels, dining hall and other facilities, while the Nigerien government will construct classrooms and administration block.

The statement added that the state government has already contacted the French government for qualified teaching staff and facilities for the school, while money for the project has been set aside by the state government.

It stated that when completed, the school is expected to accommodate at least 1,000 Nigerien and Kano students, who will study French in an effort to improve multi cultural relations.

Earlier, the head of the Nigerien delegation, Alhaji Muhammadou Saidou, said the visit was to finalize arrangements on the proposed school project, which he said will go a long way in consolidating Nigeria-Niger relations.

Foreign Affairs › Mitt Romney President-Elect Transition Website Leaks Online by semid4lyfe(op):
https://resources2.news.com.au/images/2012/11/09/1226513/401642-mitt-romney-president-elect-website.jpg
Screenshot of Mitt Romney's transitional website, calling him the "President-elect" which was briefly online for a day after he lost to President Barack Obama.

REPUBLICAN presidential nominee Mitt Romney had a "transition" website that apparently went online briefly after Tuesday's election loss.

The Political Wire website published screenshots from what appeared to be "the office of the President-elect" and a photo of the losing candidate against an American flag backdrop.

"I'm excited about our prospects as a nation," said a quote on the site next to Mr Romney's photo. "My priority is putting people back to work."

Under Mr Romney's picture was a slogan: "Smaller, Simpler, Smarter: Believe in America."

The website run by author and former political advisor Taegan Goddard said the site "was quickly taken down but I saved screenshots."

The screenshots were dated Wednesday at 8:40 pm local time or nearly a full day after US President Barack Obama was declared the winner and Mr Romney conceded.

The site invited people to the inauguration in Washington on January 21, and included links to a newsroom and applications for jobs in the Romney administration.

"Please check back here in the coming weeks for more information and details about President-elect Romney's inauguration," the website said.

The screenshots showed three pages, including one with pictures of both Romney and his running mate, Representative Paul Ryan, described as "the vice president-elect."

The Romney campaign did not immediately respond to an AFP inquiry

There are no area boys or ‘omo onile’s’ to settle before shooting your stuff, and for the sexy multi-racial female models? South African women are more liberal and fun loving, most of them love appearing on music videos just for fun. With the popularity Nigerian music now enjoys in South Africa, these ladies sometimes struggle to feature on popular Naija artistes’ music videos.
The highlighted may be true.

I recall P-Square saying they put an ad out for models for the shoot of their "Do Me" video and they were overwhelmed by the no of gals that showed up and at the end, they decided to use of all 'em.

The SA made videos are aesthetically more pleasing but their gals no sabi groove to our jams like the Naija babes.

Politics › Re: Why Nigerians ‘ll Ask Jonathan To Run In 2015 – Okupe by semid4lyfe(m): 7:39am On Nov 08, 2012
By Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North

ABUJA — Indications that President Goodluck Jonathan will seek re-election in 2015 emerged last night with a declaration by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs that the President’s transparent leadership and concrete performance would make Nigerians to ask him to run for a second term.

Okupe, who spoke exclusively with Vanguard, said although Jonathan had not declared his interest in the poll, he was confident that the successful implementation of the various development projects and programmes already put in place by the administration would endear him to the people.

Okupe said: “As an insider I know what he has been doing since he took over as President of Nigeria. I am very certain in my mind that Nigerians are going to applaud him and even if he does not want to run for election in 2015, Nigerians are going to force him to run again because of the level of his performance.”

The public affairs helmsman made it clear that Jonathan had set a 2014 deadline for himself to deliver uninterrupted power supply, tackle unemployment, insecurity and provide infrastructure to enable the economy to blossom.

Okupe said the President was quietly working to deliver on his mandate of bringing fresh air to Nigerians, explaining that it was in a bid to achieve the set goals that he recently committed ministers to endorse performance contract to show deliverable timelines.

According to him, the performance contract is geared at keeping top government officials on their toes and to enable the President to measure their performance and decide on how the best hands to continue to man the ship of state.

He said: “President Jonathan is not a theatrical or show man. He is not a man given to too much speech but action. I am very sure Nigerians will soon come to know more about his level of sincerity and commitment to the transformation of this country.

Okupe also said that it was wrong for Nigerians to continue to chastise the administration for not fighting graft when it was the same government that started the probe and eventual prosecution of those implicated in the subsidy fraud.

He however noted that cynicism of Nigerians towards leadership was borne out of many years of past failures by previous government, promising that the Jonathan administration was out to change things for the better.

“Nigerians have become use very cynical and skeptical about government because of past failures. But they should not judge Jonathan by the failures of the past. Mr. President is an innocent politician who is untainted by the politics of the past and not deeply entrenched in the principalities that have ruled us,” he pleaded.

On the issue of Boko Haram, Okupe noted that the government was dialoguing with the sect and was studying the conditions put down by the sect.

He announced that the government would make its position known on the matter at the appropriate time.
