What part of Nairaland is not satisfying you at the moment? |
damogul:No one takes your endless braying about supposed logical "fallacies" seriously. It's one of the things you do when you don't know what to say. |
KingEbukasBlog:If your motivation for questioning evolution is to prove that God made man with soil and woman with his rib, then that won't get you anywhere. However, I'm not opposed to questioning evolution. I believe in questioning everything questionable, and I practice this constantly. For example, I feel evolutionists go a bit too far sometimes when they indulge in detailed speculations based on very little evidence and then teach those speculations to children as facts. For example, they might discover a single bone fragment and construct a very detailed profile of the species that it came from with coloured illustrations of what it looked like, and then teach all that to children as scientific facts. That's wrong. |
DeepSight:No, I was clearly talking about creationism. I think theistic evolution makes some sense for now. At least, until we figure out abiogenesis. DeepSight:You're basically putting your God in the current gaps of the theory of evolution. What will happen to your God when those gaps are filled? I hope you know that evolution is a cruel process? Uncountable animals including our ancestors had to die painfully of starvation, disease, and being torn apart and eaten by predators for the fittest to emerge. Your intelligent designer would have to be cruel or indifferent to suffering. |
DeepSight:Creationists are not scientists. They start with an unreasonable conclusion and try to bend reality to fit that conclusion. That's not science! |
KingEbukasBlog:People become atheists because they stop making excuses for the lack of any objective evidence for the existence of God. It takes many people to get you to that point. It takes months to years of study in many cases; countless YouTube videos, books, debates, & unanswered prayers. |
Thanks for taking the time to write this out for us. |
chiefoluigwe:You're right. We featured a thread about it in 2013, but we didn't get any answers about the reason for it. Hope we'll get answers this time. |
That's unfortunate. I wonder why they did that. Was it imposed on them by govt, or are they just overreacting to some complaint or lawsuit? |
Drienzia:There are thing we can do to improve it but that will come at a cost. |
I just want to make sure that people are aware of the utter lack of evidence for the alternative to evolution; the "made from dust" theory. |
opeano:Can they test the liver because of the jaundice someone mentioned? |
You're wrong. Evolution is the best explanation for the diversity and complexity of life based on the evidence. You don't have a better theory. |
We use it for admin stuff, I guess, because it's a comprehensive search. I'm sorry that it isn't working for most people. |
Niflheim:I believe, and many scientists would agree, that the common ancestor of humans and other great apes must have been an ape. I'd call it an ancient ape. But it was not a chimpanzee or any other modern ape. I think that's what the anti-evolutionists are missing. The ancient ape we descended from had 24 chromosome pairs, which modern apes except us inherited, but they've accumulated lots of DNA changes too. |
DoctorAlien:This is like saying that we could not have evolved from mammals because the DNA of rats, which are mammals like us, is somehow different. |
One one hand, there's the DNA evidence for chromosome fusion, which is strong. On the other hand, a talking snake. Which shall we choose? ![]() |
DoctorAlien:Apparently you missed the part about the evidence being strong, which is what matters. It's stronger than the made of dust hypothesis for sure. |
DoctorAlien:It's not even relevant. It's like saying that you don't believe Cheetah claws aren't retractable because no other cat has non-retractable claws. But yeah, horses. "The most prominent example is the domestic horse, whose chromosome 5 is the result of the fusion of chromosomes 23 and 24 in Przewalski's horse, its immediate ancestor." The author of that comment has a P Hd in Evolutionary Biology, by the way. |
4everGod:False. But for some reason every little thing I say about evolution bothers creationists deeply and they must complain. ![]() |
The way creationists constantly complain about my evolution comments makes me feel I'm doing something right that they're afraid of. DoctorAlien:The explanation is chromosome fusion. The evidence for chromosome fusion is strong; can't imagine how you missed it. Here's it again. But there is not one example of "chromosome fusion" in mammals.False. We're mammals, so our chromosome fusion is one example. There other examples of fusion in mammals, for example, horses. I don't understand why you can't accept two chromosomes fusing together in spite of the evidence, yet you can accept a talking snake story. |
Perfectdanny:Have you been watching the Lucifer TV series? |
DoctorAlien:This is not true, but we have 23 chromosome pairs while the other apes have 24. That's because one of our ancestors' chromosome pairs got combined at some point. There is clear evidence that this fusion occurred. One of our chromosome pairs matches two ape chromosomes pairs |
DoctorAlien:Really? You believe God had to rest for a day after creating the world in 6 days, despite being all-powerful? That days existed before the sun? However, you should think twice because angels possess the physical attributes of man like eyes, mouth, ears, legs, hands, thighs, etc. Even lower animals possess these attributes. Yet, the Bible says that only man was created in the image of GOD.No, it makes me realise that the bible is full of contradictions. The mental gymnastics you must do to avoid this obvious conclusion is amazing! |
KingEbukasBlog:It makes sense to accept evolution on the basis of the fact that it's the best explanation of how complex and diverse life forms came to be. Best in the sense that it fits the evidence that we have far better than anything else that has ever been proposed. If you have a better one, share it. |
4everGod:Is this your way of admitting that you don't have a superior alternative to the theory of evolution, which means we are 'stuck' with evolution? |
4everGod:Let's temporarily assume that the OP is right and evolution is bullshit (LOL). What is 4everGod's superior alternative to evolution? Please tell us! |
KingEbukasBlog:That's an unnecessarily cruel way to check population, isn't it? Is that the kind of God you believe in? Also judging by the rate at which animals are going extinct because of us, it's not even working. So your designer is both cruel and incompetent. It would have been far more sensible to check the human population by simply limiting the number of kids a woman can have. Why didn't your intelligent designer think about that? |
DoctorAlien:Is this your way of saying that you don't believe in the straightforward interpretation of the biblical creation story? If so, it's disingenuous to say you believe in the biblical creation story. It's like someone saying he accepts the theory of evolution but his definition of evolution is different. |
KingEbukasBlog:What is your alternative to evolution? If the scientific theory of evolution is false, then surely you have a more correct theory to share with us? |
