kuzee: that was my thought though i wanna cross her with a causasian dog. hope the market price will be high though
Why must every dog owner be a breeder? Your dog is still learning where to poop and you're making plans about what to cross her with.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: The Over-hyping Of First Class Honours In Nigeria by Seun(mod):
Gorimakpa: I intentionally did not make 1st Class
That's either the most foolish thing I've ever heard or a lie. Graduating with a first class is a strong advantage that employers value. You say you have not been able to get a quality job, but has it not occurred to you that you may have gotten one if you finished with a 1st class?

HealthRe: Does Dettol Kill Ebola Virus? by Seun(mod): 3:37pm On Sep 01, 2014
Ebola is "susceptible" to dettol but more information is required. See https://www.nairaland.com/1882643/how-kill-ebola-virus-objects
HealthRe: How To Kill The Ebola Virus On Objects by Seun(mod): 3:31pm On Sep 01, 2014
Found this from another Canadian site (God bless Canada):

SUSCEPTIBILITY TO DISINFECTANTS
Ebola virus is susceptible to sodium hypochlorite, lipid solvents, phenolic disinfectants, peracetic acid, methyl alcohol, ether, sodium deoxycholate, 2% glutaraldehyde, 0.25% Triton X-100, β-propiolactone, 3% acetic acid (pH 2.5), formaldehyde and paraformaldehyde, and detergents such as SDS
https://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/lab-bio/res/psds-ftss/ebola-eng.php

According to this page, Dettol is a Phenolic disinfectant: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9177891

So it seems the Ebola virus is "susceptible" to Dettol, but there is no information about the required concentration and how it should be used to maximize its effectiveness. I would prefer to use bleach for objects due to the clear instructions on how to use it effectively. For washing hands and body I think I'll use Dettol soap. For hand sanitization without water, I'll use methylated spirit or undiluted NCP (also phenolic).

MissMeiya: Is Dettol ok?
As far as I can tell, no, but I'm still searching for more info on this.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Boko Haram Invades Bama, Meets Resistance From Nigerian Troops by Seun(mod): 2:29pm On Sep 01, 2014
martyns303: Hm. A few years ago, these guys where just a handful of herdsmen, they moved on to suicide bombing and we denied the fact that Nigerians are not capable of suicide, it was a serious issue then, today we see it as a common thing, we have come to accept it as part of our society, it doesn't shock anybody anymore. Rather we make jokes and politicize it. They bombed people in their hundreds, kidnapped a whopping 200 girls, we cried fowl for a bit, but within months cased closed. Now they are taking over villages, cities and towns still we sit and watch, laughing, making jokes. They have an objective and they are working tirelessly to achieve it, while we sit and lick lollipop. The monster is growing and soon before we know it, it will be on our own door steps, then we won't have anywhere to go but to fight. And we will die in our hundreds, cos we have failed to take measures, we are leaving behind a terrible country for our children and our children's children. I met an Iraqi who was leaving Iraq for the first time in the UK and he didn't realize how messed up his country has been because what's going on has been the norm he knows. I don't see a difference between Nigeria and Iraq today, we can deny it, and try to compare, and say we haven't reached their level yet. But we are, we are on that path and we doing perfectly fine towards it. Wake up my brethren, I beg you in the name of God, Allah, Buddha or whatever you hold sacred. This is our home, our land, I was born here, on these soil, my grand father and his father before him were buried on these soils, you and I have the same right as any President, Governor, Senator or chairman. Stand up for ur home, stand up for ur children, for ur mother, ur father, ur siblings. Stand up NOW, OR ELSE u will be bending them soon. My name is Martyns S.H ad am Nigerian, not a sourtherner or Northener but a Nigerian and this is my HOME.
So you're going to join the Army, yes? Or going to the north to convince people not to join Boko Haram? Or protesting through your laptop?

SUSCEPTIBILITY TO DISINFECTANTS

Ebola virus is susceptible to 3% acetic acid (vinegar), 1% glutaraldehyde, alcohol-based products (e.g. methylated spirit), and dilutions (1:10-1:100 for ≥10 minutes) of 5.25% household bleach (sodium hypochlorite), and calcium hypochlorite (bleach powder) Footnote 48 Footnote 49 Footnote 50 Footnote 62 Footnote 63.

The WHO recommendations for cleaning up spills of blood or body fluids suggest flooding the area with a 1:10 dilutions of 5.25% household bleach for 10 minutes for surfaces that can tolerate stronger bleach solutions (e.g., cement, metal) Footnote 62. For surfaces that may corrode or discolour, they recommend careful cleaning to remove visible stains followed by contact with a 1:100 dilution of 5.25% household bleach for more than 10 minutes.

PHYSICAL INACTIVATION

Ebola are moderately thermolabile and can be inactivated by heating for 30 minutes to 60 minutes at 60°C, boiling for 5 minutes, or gamma irradiation (1.2 x106 rads to 1.27 x106 rads) combined with 1% glutaraldehyde Footnote 10 Footnote 48 Footnote 50. Ebola virus has also been determined to be moderately sensitive to UVC radiation Footnote 51.

SURVIVAL OUTSIDE HOST

Filoviruses have been reported capable to survive for weeks in blood and can also survive on contaminated surfaces, particularly at low temperatures (4°C)

Source: http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/lab-bio/res/psds-ftss/ebola-eng.php (Published by the public health agency of Canada)

These methods are for killing the virus on objects that Ebola victims' body fluids may have touched. Do not drink or bathe in bleach, please! It seems that chlorinated water is what the Lagos Ebola containment center uses to bath people who have had contact with the Ebola virus.

I've looked through your profile. The antispam bot made a mistake. It has been corrected. Pls contact a moderator next time it happens!

Knownpal: Mr Seun, if you look at facebook, we can access the website with a short url like fb.com, what's nairaland's view on this? Can there be such url e.g nl.com
These days the length of a url doesn't matter. When i type "n" in my browser, the url www.nairaland.com comes up immediately. However, you can get pretty short URLs by dropping optional parts of normal Nairaland urls. For this page: nairaland.com/1876302 works.

spanzed: Mr Seun are you married??or Engaged..
No. Do you want to link me up?

onuwaje: Is nairaland the only project you have?
Practically, yes. Once you have something that's really successful, you get far more value for your time if you focus on it.

shaboti: d'u carve your eye brow?
No, but I remember being told I have nice eyebrows as a kid. I didn't understand until Nairaland members started asking me this question.

sholay2011: Mr Seun...what is your philosophy of life? 'Would like to know.
I don't have any all-encompassing philosophy of life. I believe in things like fairness, freedom, science, & code, but that's not a philosophy!

PastorAji: 1. Seun, why is it that RULE 17 was removed?
Nairaland members didn't like it, so we made it disappear.

mikkyphp: Please why was Nairalist (www.nairalist.com) discontinued?
Nairalist needed some extensive restructuring but I needed to focus on Nairaland, so I froze it hoping to return to it later.

It was quite effective while it lasted, and i miss it so much. Is there any hope for its resurgence?
I'm not sure. If I get good ideas about how to give users more value than what the established classifieds sites can offer, then yea.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Interactive Thread With Nairaland Owner. Come In With Your Questions! by Seun(mod):
dont8: 1. If you were not running Nairaland, what will you be best known for?
If lucky, I would be running some other web business, though it wouldn't be popular like Nairaland. If not, I'd be a complete failure in life.

2. Which part of Nigeria is Seun from?
I've lived in Ota, Ogun State for most of my life. It would be fair to say that's where I'm from, though that's not the answer you want!

iceberylin: SEUN : my question is How Much is Nairaland Worth huh
How much is your baby worth? The value of some things can't be expressed in monetary terms. Nairaland, to me, is one of those things.

Cutekemitola: Seun which football club do you support and why?
I support any club that my favourite player plays for. My favourite player is whoever is the best player in the world at the moment! Messi?

montestic: seun, how come nairaland was mentioned in the film "blackberry babes'?
The person who wrote the script must have been a fan of Nairaland. @everyone: If you know the person, please thank him/her on my behalf.

We have fixed the issue that prevents those people from updating their pics... but we have not announced it yet.

shabbey09: Samoyed right? Was considering that too. Thanx alot
Actually, I mean American Eskimo and not Samoyed. They look alike, but they behave very differently:
- American Eskimos can be good watchdogs (they bark at strangers) while Samoyeds are best friends to everyone.
- American Eskimos can be trained to obey commands reliably, while most Samoyeds have minds of their own.

Physical differences: American Eskimo dogs have a greater tendency to have tearstains and live longer. Samoyeds are significantly bigger.

American Eskimos:

Samoyeds:

This video shows the difference between a Samoyed and an American Eskimo dog trained by the same person:

shabbey09: Oh I see!! Thanks a lot Oga seun. What breed will you recommend for me then? I want a Hairy, friendly(coz I've got kids), big and fine, I want more of a pet dog and not really for security.
American Eskimo! They are good watchdogs but also friendly and trainable: they were popularly used as circus dogs in the US.
PetsRe: Why Do Dog Buyers Always Ask To See Pictures Of Puppy Parents Before Buying? by Seun(mod): 2:09pm On Aug 31, 2014
People need to know what their puppies will be like when they grow up. The best way to do that is to look at what the parents are like.
A hairy puppy may grow up to look different from what you were expecting. It could be uglier or smaller or higher maintenance than expected.
