metoo, your story shows that you are a great ambassador of Nigeria. Keep it up! |
If you can get used copies of bestselling books, they will sell, because Nigerians can't afford new ones. Ayn Rand novels, Marvel and DC comics, John Grisham novels, textbooks for university students, et cetera. |
Thanks. It's funny how one can achieve a lot of good by simply setting out to make clean money. |
nico, I'm sorry about what happened to you. |
I'm probably not going to make it in time to show my photocomic there. Too bad. ![]() |
When I read "sad story" I thought it was a failed romance story. |

MOVIE: EWE OJU OMI Produced by: Laide Bakare Directed by: Niji Akanni Starring: Olumide Bakare, Clarion Chukwurah, Femi Brainard, Laide Bakare Interesting film about the dirty game of Nigerian Politics. Chief Kuti and Tunde Adeniyi are bitter political opponents both contesting for the same public position. Chief Kuti sends thugs to beat up Tunde Adeniyi and the thugs report back to Chief Kuti that Tunde Adeniyi is dead. Chief Kuti rebukes the thugs stating that he did not tell them to kill him, that he only asked them to beat him. In the wake of the death of Tunde Adeniyi, his political party members persuades his younger brother, Sanda to step in his place and contest so that people who supported Tunde would still vote for him. Sanda, angered by the killing of his brother, agrees to step in and carry on the fight to defeat Chief Kuti in the election. Unfortunately, Sanda's girlfriend, Iyabo happens to be Chief Kuti's daughter. On stepping into his brother's shoes, he immediately jilts Iyabo calling her a murderer's daughter and leaving the poor heart-broken girl, who is obviously in love, to weep all night. Iyabo tells her mother that she regrets being Chief Kuti's daughter and after discovering that she is pregnant, goes on to angrily challenge her father for being a murderer and affirms her support for Sanda in the election, despite the fact that he has jilted her. Chief Kuti gets seriously taunted for being a murderer by the people. His political party drops him as the candidate after realising that he'd never win because he has been branded a murderer by the masses. Even his wife parks out of the house after being publicly derided many times as the wife of a murderer. The whole frustration makes Chief Kuti to commit suicide. In the wake of this, Iyabo's mother disguises and visits Sanda in the middle of the night to inform him of his neglected girlfriend Iyabo's pregnancy and her own husband's death. Sanda becomes sober on hearing this and goes to visit Iyabo where the truth is revealed that his brother Tunde Adeniyi is not dead. He merely capitalized on Chief Kuti's act of thuggery, pretended to be dead and absconded the town to draw sympathy from the masses and bring victory to their party. Turns out it was a political tactic. Sanda apologises to Iyabo for his part in the plot and promises to confess this to the press, disengage from the scheming political party and come back to start a new life with Iyabo and his unborn child. He never got this because as soon as he finishes confessing to the press and tries to escape, his brother and other political party members get on his heels and kill him. No sexually graphic/voodoo scenec but there are violent scenes. Best Actor in this film - Laide Bakare (Iyabo), playing the role of a heart-broken girl who loved and lost. |
MOVIE: PASSION AND PAIN Directed by: Tarila Thompson Produced by: Elochukwu Anigbogu Starring: Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Emeka Ike Featuring: Desmond Elliot, Uche Iwuji If you have zero tolerance for what we call "Mumu"(fool) then don't watch this film or you might break your TV screen while trying to reach for someone's head. Passion & Pain is the story of two young and hopeful lovers - Damian(Emeka Ike) and Maureen(Genevieve Nnaji) who are both freshers in the University. Damian is from a lowly poor family but Maureen doesn't care about that as they are both truly in love. Francis is the spoilt, rich love-vendor friend of Ola's boyfriend. MOVIE: ARK OF GOD Produced by: Mike Bamiloye Directed by: Mike Bamiloye, Sunday Ogunyemi Starring: Mike Bamiloye, Stephen Bamiloye, Israel Ore-Adewole, Gloria Bamiloye. This is about a courageous Christian whose kidnap and boldness in the face of adversity became instrumental to the reunion between his father and grandfather. The king of Iremoje village laid critically ill and about to die. The most powerful herbalist in Iremoje village sent out some boys to the city to kidnap a young boy to kill for some rituals to heal the dying king. A young schoolboy, Deola was kidnapped and he used the Bible verses he learnt from his Mum to scare the herbalist, King and their cohorts. The herbalists believed his Bible citations to be fetish incantations and thought him to be a powerful child. Well he is, but not the kind of power they thought. Meanwhile, his parents had been seriously fasting and praying for his return and going round all police stations looking for him. They became afraid to kill him for the rituals and decided to return him to where he was kidnapped, but the King refuses saying his heart does not want him to go yet. He asked the boy to be called to his presence and told him about his illness hoping that he would help since all else had failed. The boys asked if the King had offended anyone or placed a curse on anyone. Turned out the King had indeed offended and placed a curse on his only son, Prince Obadepo. The boy advised the King that he should look for the Prince to pray for him and he'd be healed. This annoyed the King who had sworn never to forgive the Prince and he angrily asked the boy to be taken away from his presence. Prince Obadepo, on the other side, had also been warned by his Pastor to forgive his father & reconcile with him to have his prayer answered about his lost son. He reluctantly did this after so much persuasion only to find his lost son there with his father. There are two versions of this film. The English and the Yoruba version titled 'Apoti Eri'. No sexually graphic scenes. There are some voodoo scenes and one other which might be considered a bit violent. Best Actor in this film: Stephen Bamiloye, I loved that boy in the movie! He was brilliant. |
MOVIE: BLOOD ON THE ALTAR Produced by: Mike Bamiloye Directed by: Mike Bamiloye, Elvon Jarrett Starring: Abel Martins, Gloria Bamiloye, Elvon Jarrett, Elizabeth-Ore Adewole This is a Christian film from Mount Zion Ministries. It's the story of a powerful and widely-known minister of God, Rev. Atilade Hosea who fell into sin by having a secret extra-marital affair with his secretary, Tumi - a divorced woman. This marked the beginning of chaos for him because the lady became pregnant leaving them with no choice but to agree to abort the baby. Reverend gave Tumi money for the abortion and she headed off for another town (probably to avoid being recognised as the popular Reverend's secretary?) to have the abortion, staying the night with her friend, Yetunde. The abortion however did not go right as she was rushed back to the hospital not long after she got home. Clement,Tumi's divorced husband, meanwhile set out to look for his wife in a bid to reconcile with her after he became born-again. He located the Pastor's office and coincidentally, Clement was with the Pastor and his wife when her friend came to call them to rush to the hospital about Tumi's critical condition. The poor man never got the chance to reconcile with his wife as she was already dead by the time they got to the hospital. Tumi, however, left behind a letter and her diary in her friend's house. Yetunde read through and discovered the truth about the affair, the pregnancy and abortion. She began to use the evidence to blackmail and constantly haunt the Pastor for money. A minister of God in another town received direction from God about the evil acts of the Pastor and went on an investigative assignment where he met Yetunde, preached to her and converted her from her bad ways of blackmailing and made her return all the money she collected. The duo of the Pastor and Yetunde collaborated to expose the Pastor's acts leading the story to an unexpected and tragic end. This movie is in 4 Parts! But well worth the length. No violent, sexually graphic, voodoo or ritual scenes. Best Actor in this film: I have to give it to Gloria Bamiloye who acted as Mrs Hosea, the beautiful wife of the Reverend who faced distress throughout the story. |
MOVIE: BUTTERFLY Reviewer's Rating: 7/10 Starring: Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Clem Ohameze Another romance flick with its first few scenes reminiscent of Ramsey Nouah's usual 'Valentino' playboy style - using and dumping girls. Felix, as Ramsey Nouah is called in this movie, gets the help of his cousin, Florence who arranges girls for him. But meeting Chelsea (Genevieve Nnaji) changes all that as Ramsey falls head-over-heels in love with her and decides to change his ways to dedicate himself to and marry Chelsea, thinking he has found his wife! Felix does everything possible to get Chelsea but she keeps turning him down rudely. The ultimate love-vendor Felix now becomes humiliated. It turns out Chelsea is interested in another man, Ray (Clem Ohameze) who is more engrossed in his work and has no time for her. So Felix wants Chelsea but Chelsea wants Ray. Well, someone ends up getting h** heart's desire. The twist in this story is that it doesn't end in the way other cassanova-style flicks end. Best Actor in this film: is definitely Ramsey Nouah. Watch the very last scene and see how he turns to a jellyfish dundee while Chelsea introduces him to Ray, her lover. Apart from the fact that the 'Mr Lover Lover' role always suits him well in movies, he also did a good job in interpreting this role the more. No violent scenes, No sexually graphic scenes and no voodoo/rituals scene. Just your average romantic movie. People who enjoyed this movie may also enjoy Valentino, Playboy and Power of Love. |

If women come together to fight against it, they'll prevail. But if each woman feels it's ok for other women to be raped except for herself, and joins stupid men in victimizing them, women will continue to suffer needlessly. |
