I lost several friends to that road when I had my NYSC at CrossRiver State some years back, and the road was much better than this then. Cars used to do 140km per hour from the Obubra - Ugep - Akampa - Odukpani - Calabar axis of the road. It was the Obanliku - Obudu - Ikom section that was bad then.
Education / Re: University Offers Course On Michael Jackson by seunspice(m): 11:33pm On Sep 03, 2012
i am sure its a course under a discipline. and for those who do not know, David Beckham's approach to his branding is a studied course in one of UK's universities> whatever grievances anyone has against Michael Jackson wouldn't deter the fact that as the most commercially successful artiste of all time, his approach to his craft needs to be studied and imbibed by anyone who wants to be a star in the entertainment business.

Politics / Jonathan Group Spends N2bn On Subsidy Adverts ! by seunspice(m): 2:03pm On Feb 01, 2012
A group operated by President Goodluck Jonathan’s key ministers has spent about N2 billion to run newspaper and radio/television advertisements defending the Federal Government’s aborted petrol subsidy withdrawal, Daily Trust investigation has shown.
The Neighbor to Neighbor Initiative (N2N), a political group formed in the run up to the 2011 election to campaign for Jonathan, placed the advertisements and jingles starting immediately after the government announced ending fuel subsidies on New Year’s Day and went for about three weeks.

Most of the major national newspapers, public and private television networks as well as radio stations run the adverts, which mainly contained messages about the potential benefits of the deregulation policy.

Some of the advertisements also went starkly political, whipping up sectional sentiments.

The Neighbor to Neighbor Initiative was formed by Mrs. Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, now Aviation minister; Mr. Godsay Orubebe, now Minister of Niger Delta; and King Amalate Johnnic, according to records obtained from the Corporate Affairs Commission in Abuja.

It was registered as a non-governmental organisation on April 1, 2011, with Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, Orubebe and Johnnic as trustees.

But there was no evidence directly linking the three to payment of the N2 billion pro-subsidy removal adverts run in newspapers and broadcast stations in the first three weeks of last month.

Press secretary to Orubebe, Ms. Juliet Archibong, declined to comment when contacted. She instead referred our reporter to one Mr Donald, who she said was among people running the affairs of Neigbour to Neigbour.

Romance / Re: Most Romantic Honeymoon Destinations In Nigeria. by seunspice(m): 8:08pm On Nov 09, 2011
INFO70:

I NEED TO PONDER ABOUT  MOST ROMANTIC HONEYMOON DESTINATION IN NIGERIA. CHECK OUT TINAPA, OBUDU CATTLE RANCH ALL IN CALABAR. THE PLACE IS SECURE AND PEACEFUL . NO BOKO HARAM. NO MOSSOP, NO OPC ETC.
i would assume you meant all in Cross River state. Tinapa is on the outskirts of Calabar and can pass for Calabar. Even though you would get there faster from Odukpani junction that from within the city gates itself. The ranch however is in Obanliku local government area, some 5/6 hours from Calabar by road if you go via the Odukpani-Akampa-Ugep-Obubra-Ikom-Obudu-Obanliku route. the ranch is not even in Obudu local government. So except you go by the chopper service from the Calabar airport, you spend some long hours on the road.
I went there as a corps member with friends some 10 years back, the place was still sparkling and there was discount for corpers. it was great. I however heard from one of my friends who we went there together back then that the place is not as well maintained as should be. The Nigerian tragedy of no upkeep culture.

Let me share my personal experience and it might help you. I had a 1tb hard drive, with about 800gd of data on it. i let it fall off once and the disk became unreadable. Tried all sorts of data recovery softwares with no luck. Then i went for broke by installing Ubuntu 10.0 on my notebook and connected the hardrive to it. There were my files intact from ubuntu and all i had to do was buy another 1tb hard drive and transfer.
The best news of it though is Ubuntu is totally free like all unix platforms and downloadable online.

Politics / Re: Boko Haram Reveals UN House Bomber’s Name by seunspice(m): 11:48am On Sep 02, 2011
In August 2008, i was coming back to Lagos from Kaduna from an official assignment, I pointed out to my colleagues at the Kaduna airport a group of Hausa/Fulani youths the eldest of which could not be more than 15. They were in the company of 3 arab men. we jokingly wrote the group off as almajeris. On arrival at the MM1 in Lagos at the luggage terminal, these kids were all over the place trying to claim all bags that were thiers. They were very aggressive and ill mannered. we were very surprised when one of the Arab men started calling out their names and giving them Nigerian International passports. Apparently, these guys were being ferried outa Nija to the middle east for some kind of education. A colleague remarked that our  almajeris were actually terrorists in training and we would feel the effect of those boys in a few years.
When i heard of the Abdullmutalab bomb attempt, i called my colleague  and he said ', you know i told you , '. Nigerian youths have been exported out of this country since the late 90's for trainings in terror acts amongst other things. A country with borders as porous as ours would only experience such occurences because we have given the initiatives to the aliens. Service at my church this past sunday was a gloomy one, cause one of the most respected members, a 67 year old widow lost her only child in the bomb blast at the UN building. he had just secured the UN job less than 24 months ago.
Lord have mercy and save us from this new wave of terror.

I recommend you do Ewedu and Gbegiri with goat meat, no better complements for hot steamy Amala than those.

My pals, lets not forget something. This Barcelona is not just a team, it is an institution and time after time any player that does not fit into the institution is shipped out. There is a perceived Catalan way of life. These players are rich but don't flaunt it, they are talented but ain't proud, they are pilling accolades and results but they are not loud about it. it is just the catalan way. Players who have problems in this team if you check are players who are not ready to conform to the lifestyle. Ibra would never have been a perfect fit because his ego is second only to C Ronaldo. Eto started having issues after his 'Madrid bastards' rant (Barca might hate the Madrid team/setup but they wont insult a team that had Zidane, Figo, Beckham, Raul, Ramos, Carlos, Salgado and Ronald in public). Players like Kluivert, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho etc had been shipped out at one point or the other for non conformance.
So for a closely guarded unit as this with probably the highest level of unity in any soccer team you can only go up from there as a player.
Why will Barca be so insistent on bringing Fabregas back in? they know what has been invested in the player while in their youth ranks and probably believe he is the natural successor to xavi. No other team believes more in the home grown talent cliche in Europe, Lets not deviate too much though, Barca are the best team to ever kick the ball and thus their players are shoulder high above the rest. Messi might be a shade different out of the Barca shirt\team but he still is probably untouchable as we speak.
Any team that makes United look so ordinary and turns the likes of Park, Valencia, Giggs and Carrick to passengers in a game deserve all the accolades they get. it doesn't get better than that.

Sports / Re: Lionel Messi At Copa 2011 by seunspice(m): 10:40am On Jul 27, 2011
@Danraska,
It is a little known fact in football that the midfield is the engine room of any team. Thus a midfield with Xavi and Iniesta ( the 2 players with the highest ratio of completed passed over the past 3 years) would only dictate the play and make whoever plays in the attack look good. I am not saying Messi is not a good player. He is however not as good as people make him look to be. He's got skills, a very good balance and burst of space, his ability to go past players is second only to the peak of the Ronaldinho days but believe me, we have seen Messi without Xavi and Iniesta and he didnt look as good.
You mentioned the Man U and Real midfielders, Your footie mind should have made you realize that the Man U midfield would never be as good as this Barca midfield (and i am an ardent Man U fan) even with 11 versions of a youthfull Giggs and Scholes in there. Barca has taught us that crisp short definitive passes wreck more havoc than long passes which United's midfield uses to devastating effects in the EPL. The Real midfield in effect has great players in it, but how long have these guys played together for? You mentioned Lass Diara who is not a regular, Kaka who had an Injury blighted season, Khedira , a player in his first season, same with Ozil. Di maria who was so frightened at the first el classico he hardly put a foot right. You can't compare these players to a team that has players who have been together from their teens and only inject pros at positions that need outsourcing.
You have made your point and i agree with you to an extent. i made my point as well and listed what i feel Messi and Ronaldo need to do to be at the pinnacle of the game. They may both have won the champions league and domestic leagues, but neither has won a senior world cup or a continental trophy from their federations yet.

Sports / Re: Lionel Messi At Copa 2011 by seunspice(m): 1:16pm On Jul 26, 2011
Copa America 2011 is one to be quickly forgotten by the book makers. All the big teams fell and most of the big boys messed up. What happened to Dani Alves? Messi is no doubt a great player, possibly ranking with the best there ever was but , much of his greatness is embedded in the Barca factor. Swap Messi for Ronaldo today and see what wonders Ronaldo would perform in a Barca shirt. The only problem with Ronnie is his attitude (Oh! ain't that lad haughty?).
Messi has been over hyped because of his achievements at Barca, i even read on another thread here on NL where an ignoramus claimed that Messi was a regular at Barca before Xavi and Iniesta even made the team. Such stupidity! Both guys (Ronaldo and Messi) are just developing at their mid 20s and they are not yet at their peaks (mark my words). The best players in the world are Xavi and Iniesta. They were both in the world cup winning spanish team and have been the crux of the Barca team since Ronaldinho left.
Also CR7 has proved himself in at least 2 leagues (England and Spain) topping the goal scorers chart in both leagues and practically carrying his teams on his shoulders so far.

To be as good as they could be, Ronaldo and Messi need to sort out the following

Messi: The need to prove himself to outside of the Barca shirt. We could forgive the 2010 world cup flop but is this Copa performance a coincidence? A starling performance in 2014 would secure his place in folklore for life.
Ronaldo: Pride robs players of their full potentials as in the case of talents like Cantona etc. he needs to be more of a team player and subdue his ego. (with these two, he would be undoubtedly the best)

Politics / Re: It's A Disgrace That Countries Like Indonesia Produce More Palm Oil Than Nigeria by seunspice(m): 9:57am On Jul 04, 2011
As a student of agriculture at OAU back in the days, the lecturers used to tell us stories of how scientists came from Malaysia and Indonesia to the south west universities of Nigeria in the mid 70s and were given palm seeds for experimental purposes. Never did they know then that the seeds would become the livelihood of these countries today.
They were viewed as non entities back then but are now world movers from Palm produce, here we are in our big brother regallia, even the crude cannot be refined here. Shame!
Car Talk / Re: Why Is It That Women Are Mean When Driving? by seunspice(m): 9:19pm On Jun 11, 2011
i have personally made it a rule not to give any woman the right of way except she shows the right attitude, and as a matter of principle i dont struggle for the right of way either. Nigerian drivers are genrally aggressive, especially in lagos and the female driver mostly come from the point of view that men would normally want to 'chance' them on the road, so they are mean, ruthless and calous.
Just this evening on my way back from Surulere prior to the Kanu testimonial, a lady in a silver toyota first lady refused me passage in fron of the national stadium, i promptly overtook her before we could climb the yaba bridge. She tailed me hard and went past me at Palmgrove only to deny me access to go past whenever i attempted to. I promptly used the BRT lane to edge past when i had the chance and when she did not give up the chace, i made her hit an okada by my 'danfo' driving style. Left her to be slugging it out with the rider while i eased off into Maryland. Fellow male drivers who ran into me at the traffic stop at Maryland were all giggling and giving me thumbs up. She made a real mess of herself.
Howver, there are worse male drivers and very cool headed female drivers out there.-
Sports / Re: Kanu Nwankwo Tremendous Overrated by seunspice(m): 9:08pm On Jun 11, 2011
If there is anything more over rated in life its this thread. I was lucky to see Japan 93 matches where the likes of Anosike, Oruma and Kanu played with magic on their feet. Ditto Atlata 96. if Nigeira had played the Nations cup in South Africa in 98 maybe these generation of anti Kanu posters would have seen more of Kanu,
And dont lets forget that Kanu got diagnosed with the Heart condition when he was at his prime. Yet he rose from that situation to be what he is , A bit part player who still reads and changes games.
Pre 1997 Kanu was that silky deep lying forward assist striker with the killer touch
post 1997 he went from the above to playing footie with 25% perspiration and 75% inspiration and brains.
i have never heard any of his team mates at any team complain about him,
Maybe these complaining maggots should dig history well before making unfounded confused comments on Nairaland. God bless Kanu, God bless Nigeria, God bless you all.
