na2day & route66 don't sound so confident. are you a PhD in human reproduction? if you are a scientist as you claim then you know that in science, different views and questioning each other is the mechanism of advancement in knowledge. |
I have a question for whoever cares to answer me. It's something i've wondered for a while but never bothered to ask. OK, since i've been coming to this site, i've noticed there is quite a lot of agitation from some factions in nigeria who don't want to belong to the federation. my question is this; Nigeria has military coups in the past; my understanding of military coups is that the first order of business is to annul the existing constitution. so my question is; at the time of the latest transition from military to democratic rule in nigeria, when that new constitution was being drawn, who signed on behalf of the igbos and the niger delta people to become part of the federation? or what was the process like? i'm asking because for example, if the US had a coup, and later the country was being returned to democratic rule, all the states would have to re-enter the federation all over again. So it would seem to me that in the case of Nigeria, 1999 for example would have been the best time for the seperatists to have refused to sign to the new constitution. |
are you sure you're a guy? seems like the kind of thread a woman would start. men don't bother ourselves with such thoughts. the heart wants what the heart wants. |
Ikeyman, you AGAIN. I see the times have caused no improvement on your thinking abilities. Good luck to you. I'm gonna go ahead and ignore you on this thread from here on out. I know you're not wise enough to engage in any thought provoking discourse. |
@Sherry Lo. Ok, i'm challenging you. Bring out your so called facts and lets see. @Gbawe, for what its worth, let me tell you that i have never heard any ghanaian refer to ghana as the 'giant of africa'. that would be ridiculous. it is not a term you would hear ghanaians describe themselves with. if you ask any ghanaian what the best country in africa was, they would say SA. so that's that. I agree with Bennyboy though. We Ghanaians have come a long way. a long long way. and we are confident that if we continue on this path, we are heading for better things. Now instead of Nigerians to accept this situation as a challenge in good faith and rise to that challenge, all i see coming from our nigerian brothers is constant hate with talk like "who is ghana", "ghana is common local government", "ghana is nobody", you know, typical market women thinking. much like sherry lo here is exhibiting' |
@Gbawe, my apologies. i am not a man who is ashamed of retracting his footsteps when i see i'm walking in the wrong directions. correction duly noted. |
Forget abt how Nigerians see Rawlings, We are not ignorant of Ghanaian History from Independence, Any man who see the 8years of kuffours better than 20 years of Rawlings must be deluded in mind, There is no how you can compare some one who moved a country from 0 - 10 with the person who jst continue from 10- 20, Rawlling spent all those year rebuilding Ghana from nothing, You need to understand the situation of Ghana before he took over power and wht it was when he handed over to Kuffour, probably you will also understand why Ghana should not underestimate someone who achieved that much for them, Infact Ghana still enjoy most of the infrastructures he Fixed, The presence of these good Infrastructures gave kuffour the opportunity to focused on stabilizing the country's economy, Which we might see as his only achievement for 8years in power.oboy i'm a ghanaian so don't try to educate me on ghanaian history. you said rawlings took ghana from 0 to 10? are you joking? who told you ghana was nothing? at independence, the econonomy of ghana was better than that of south korea. neither was it zero when rawlings stepped in. if you are talking about 1979, that coup was no conducted by rawlings. he was just a ceremonial head. when he returned solo in 1981, ghana was a fully functioning democracy. everybody knows kufuor's 8 years were more eventful than rawling' 20. that's a fact. look, rawlings did relatively well. he did well compared to some of the other miltary leaders we had. the best thing rawlings did for ghana, which he himself prides in the most, was return ghana to democratic rule. But i am against glorifying that because how do you thank a thief for returning something he stole from you in the first place. and get this. there is no mutual hatred between rawlings and kufuor. the hate is unidirectional. either that or kufuor does a good job of hiding his. either way, it has nothing to do with tribe. you speak of tribal dislike between the two biggest tribes which can be traced to independence. which two tribes might that be? first of all, there are no two tribes competing in ghana. tribalism in ghana is usually everybody hating the ashantis because they are quite cocky. but that's it. |
behold the antichrist has been conceived. in egypt no less. fitting. btw, it's hightly highly highly improbable but not exactly impossible. the beauty of science is there is no absolute truth. for example, depending on the porosity of the swimsuit she was wearing, the distance between her and the person who ejaculated, and her position in the water, you can't completely rule out the possibility that of millions of sperm that would be released into the pool if someone did ejactulate in the pool, that one of them would beat the odds and survive in the harsh conditions of the pool. now if she was within three seconds of the ejaculating male,,,,,lol, so ya, the odds are astronically low but not impossible. |
@londoner, manuel, and co. on what are you basing that statement that "ghanaians allow foreigners to do what they want on our soil"?? pls educate me. some nigerians seem to have a false sense of bravado and delusions of grandeur. do we ghanaians allow westerners to do whatever they like on our soil any more than nigerians? let's talk figures. @Sherry Lo, you assertion that ghanaians are not literate because they don't speak english on the streets is just plain stupid. Do nigerians speak english on the streets of lagos? mind you, pedgin is not english. that's even beside the point. do a simple google search of the literacy rate in both countries and see what you come up with. Why did this thread make it to the frontpage anyway. It seems any thread that mentions Ghana in it makes it to the frontage. Seun or whatever you have failed. |
Here's is where most of you are wrong. ELECTIONS CANNOT BE RIGGED IN GHANA. The people have simply woken up too much. If Kufuor wanted to rig elections wouldn't the first thing to do be to change the Electoral commisioner that Rawlings Appointed? who btw is the same Commisioner who called the elections rightly for Kufuor's NPP in 2000. The only elections that have been rigged in Ghana was the 1992 election that transtioned Rawlings PNDC military Junta into a so-called democratically elected NDC government. That election even Rawlings himself would admit was rigged. Nobody complained because once the west pressured rawlings to return ghana to democratic rule, it was only a matter of time before he has to leave. they figured four years at most. Rawlings did however win the 1996 elections fairly though. He did beat Kufuor fairly in the election. The man Rawlings, like the State of Nigeria, is a big enigma. he was the chairman of the military regime that conducted the cleanest polls in Ghana's history, the 1979 elections, only to turn around and in less than a year overthrow the elected leader. |
This thread has to be a joke. I notice Nigerians seem to respect Rawlings so much. I'm not too suprised. You can never tell what's going on in someone's house when you're looking in from outside. Like Most ghanaians think of Obasanjo as the best nigerian leader ever. What you have to understand before you try to interpret any Rawlings comment on Kufuor is the intense hate Rawlings has for Kufuor. He blames Kufuor for his irrelevance on the world stage. After Kufuor's government initiated corruption charges against his wife and other members of his family, he has considered Kufuor his personal antichrist. First of all, Rawlings is a deluded man. Constantly trying so hard to remain relevant in ghanaian politics. His own party in power now, have pressed the iggy button on him. WHo is YarAdua to tell Kufuor anything. that's ridiculous. What would yarAdua have done otherwise? Don't read too much into anything Rawlings says. The man smokes weed among other things. You can never really tell whether he's high or not. He said in the past Tony Blair and George Bush were trying to assasinate him. On Kufuor's recent appointement into many world positions, he said the reason Kufuor was being called and not him was because Kufuor was carrying coccaine. Kufuor's good work on the ghanaian economy and the foreign plaudits ghana has been receiving in the last 8 or so years makes Rawlings' ineffeciencies even more glaring. His main goal now is to dampen Kufuor's achievements any chance he gets. So his own 20 years doens't seem like such a waste. |
@ Topic Ofcourse you were ready. To argue anything else would be to argue that there was anarchy before the europeans came. Infact the question itself it rubbish. How were you governing yourselves before the europeans came. Don't attribute the failure of a few individuals to a failure of the entire population. If there has been any failure, it has been the failure of self appointed leaders you have had who can't do the job and refuse to hand over capable hands. I say self appointed because it is obvious these are not leaders chose by nigerians themselves. |
"we need jerry rawlings, we need jerry rawlings" Just who do you people think Jerry Rawlings is? Becareful what you wish for. The grass always seems greener on the other side. For example, Do you know most Ghanaians think of Obasanjo as the greatest Nigerian leader ever? true. It was not until i came here that i found out he is reviled by majority of nigerians. Rawlings was pressured by both the UN and the West to return Ghana to democratic rule. Otherwise he would never have done so. He has said several times he does not believe in democracy. His government introduced Tribalism into Ghanaian politics. And has the worst human rights record in Ghana's history. Is that the kind of person you need? Men like him think they are the only ones capable of running the country. I once heard an interview by Obasanjo where he said something like "if i didn't take up the mantle, who would have run the country", He was talking about in the aftermath of Abacha's death. You see, they think they are the only capable ones. LIke Obama said "Africa needs strong institutions, NOT strong men" |
Becareful what you ask for People. Jerry Rawlings is no saint. the situation in Ghana was quite different from what you have in nigeria today. First of all, there was not as much distrust among the tribes as you have in Nigeria. Infact, as far as tribalism goes, its everybody against the Ashantis. In terms of the two biggest groupings (loosely related tribes), they are the Akans(of which the Ashantis belong) and the Northerners (Hausas, Fulanis, etc) The Ewes are not a dominant group in Ghana. Infact they only became part of Ghana in the 50s. They used to be part of Togoland, which was german territory until germany lost the second world war. It was Rawlings who introduced Tribalism into Ghanaian politics. The Ewes realised that if they came together and voted for one person, they could have a big say. Prior to 1981 tribalism was never a big theme in Ghana politics. Nobody really cared what tribe those Army Rulers who were executed were from. Besides, the coup that resulted in their execution was not conducted by Rawlings. Rawlings was just the face of that coup. The coup was actually conducted by one Boakye Djan, an ashanti. Rawlings was in Prison during the coup. He was rescued after the coup to be the face of the coup because they were all young and didn't know how the people would react to their coup and since rawlings was already popular with the masses, they decided to use him. I agree with you on one thing though. You can't have too many of those coup plotters and military rulers running around in the country. They are always destabilizing the system somehow. Those men are thiefs and worst, think they are the only ones capable of running the country in question. In ghana we only have one such person still running around, that's rawlings. One is ok. If we had more than one like you do in nigeria, the country would be up in flames. You need to flush out all those former military rulers and their ilk. and there is a way to do it without arousing too much tribal sentiment. Ofcourse one tribe may bear the brunt of the action but that alone should not start a war. Afterall, they are all suffering. It's not like life for the ordinary northerner in nigeria is roses. they are suffering too. The problem nigeria has is i don't see how any agitation to upset the status quo can settle without the country splitting up. Any attempt at forcing the issue will ultimately result in the country splitting up, the way i see it. There is too much bad blood. The next alternative is vigilante justice. It will not be pretty but it might work. Basically the youth start killing any official if it becomes clear they are engaged in corruption. bombings, snipers, you name it. ofcourse you give the accused person time to clear their name through the press. But if they are unable to do so or continue walking around like they couldn't be bothered, then you eliminate them. Trust me, in no time, all those governors and senators will sit up. Maybe Mend and similar groups should start changing their modus operandi. lol. |
Is that so?that's your idea of dating? blowjobs? says a lot about you really. can't say i'm suprised. |
having delusions of grandiosity is a bigger sign of unintelligence, wouldnt you say.who says? i've never heard that saying anywhere. it doesn't even make sense. and what part of what i wrote suggests delusions of grandeur? |
stop derailing the thread.possibly the strongest case against online dating i have ever heard. |
tbh, i dont really know what 'yeye' means but i'm guessing it's an insult cus that seems to the theme with girls here on NL. most of the people i've had run-ins with here don't appreciate a subtle joke. it's a sign of unintelligence. case in point, tpia. |
did they run away?no. they remembered the age old saying "you don't quarrel with a mad man. a passer-by might not know the difference" |
You think it will be that easy, when you were giving her all the protein via sperm, what do you expect, kijiji manwow. you swallow? that's hot! lol |
waiting.sorry. you'd have to find some other guy to get yourself off on his insults. not me. you're deranged. you have daddy issues. clearly. |
Ha ha ha that is such a typical male thing to sayadvice noted. i'll try to remember that when i get married ![]() |
@tpia wtf is ur problem girl? like really, wtf? i come to NL to chill. not to engage borderline psychotic bitches in a dissing match. trust me ,you dont wanna start anything with me. i'll have you calling for an emergency appointment with your shrink in no time. be warned. |
i don wear mine anymore and if i do, i wear it on a different finger whhich is thinner cos i grew slightly fatter after wedlock but i am demanding for a bigger and better one from him and hope to get it soon cos i love my ring on no matter what.ciaodemanding for a bigger one? why don't you loose the weight instead? lol. just saying |
bitch please! you turned what could have been a perfectly enjoyable thread into an ad nauseum discussion about polygamy or whatever and then proceed to attack someone when they try to tell you to stick to the topic. PMS much? just go get yourself some medication? whatever your issues are, guess what? we dont care! |
to each his own i guess. but as for me, i get irritated at even the slightest hint that a girl expects me to give her any money or anything like that. money for hair? to maintain her look? how much is she paying me to look good? what is she doing for me that i'm not doing for her to warrant my being expected to take care of her. what really? i can't think of anything. now ofcourse is she needs money in an emergency, i'll be more than willing to help, but i'd do that for my friends too. i get soo irritated when i see those stupid girls lazying about following football stars happy to be referred to as 'wags' like it's a profession. WTF? how did that become fashionable in the UK? you dont see that rubbish so much here in the US. lol, obviously this is a topic that hits close to home. lol, i once dated a nigerian girl who would tell me how much she regrets dating a ghana boy cus i'm too stingy and that a nigerian guy would be buying her gifts every week. i get angry just remembering her name. lol, incidentally i found out about nairaland when she made it my homepage, lol, and i'm sure she's still here, i think i've already spotted a post that sounds like something she would say lol ' |
the whole thing is kosovo is thought to be one of the main suppliers of weapons and other tactical support to niger delta militants. they have been doing this for a long time in return for black market crude sales and promises of future crude sales when the niger delta militants get their way. this was when they were still plotting their own independence moves. So Serbia and the Nigerian government are sort of allies against sort of a common enemy. |
my god you must be old. who the f are some of these ppl you're naming? lol |
who's seun? a mod? |
It's not y accident, I am specifically refering to you. You can't compare Ghana to Nigeria. If you want to compare it should be next state with higher GDP after Lagos State!I'm not really interested in these comparisons, they are pointless. but i just want to point out that our Optimism as a nation is not due to the size of our GDP. It's more about the rate at which our GDP has grown. which is something like 800% in the last decade. Comparing GDP is like hiring employees by looking at their pictures only. Nigeria has a higher GDP than both Singapore and Malaysia. Fact. But ghanaians are very good at hiding our problems from the outside though. Just look at how Rawlings and Kufuor were standing there like they're best of buddies when infact they are sworn enemies. Kufuor prosecuted Rawlings' wife for corruption and causing financial loss to the state, lol, Rawlings is advocating for Kufuor to be sent to the Hague for human rights abuses. All this is funny because Kufuor himself presided over an equally corrupt government and Rawlings talking about human rights abuse is like Hitler giving a lecture on Anti-semetism.lol |
Don't know why i like repeating myself.oh i dunno, maybe because the british don't have a president? listen, Obama did not come to Ghana for oil. Are you kidding me? It's not like we've discovered the world's largest oil reserves. Besides, Americans don't need to send their president to Ghana for that. A simple phone call from washington would suffice. We get a lot of help from them each year. The Russians have just bought one of our oil fields and they didn't need to send their President over. How much more Americans. While we're on it, it's nothing to do with Africom either. When Bush visited last year, Kufuor told him to his face at a public press conference that Ghana will never allow an american base on its soil. Sure maybe the americans sought to convince our new president, but again, they wouldn't need to send Obama to Ghana for that. This was just a goodwill visit to Africa in general. He needed a backdrop against which to deliver his main point, that "there is no development without accountability of leadership (which occurs through free and fair elections). Ghana served as the perfect backdrop. We are proud of that. |
