Obama is not a black afurakan. In fact he is white/pink because his mom whom begat him and raised him is white/pink. Race is traced through the maternal side, the mitochondria DNA is passed only through females. Obama is just a cracker with a deep tan. lol.
that is absolutely completely wrong. If you got that from some school i'd get a refund for my tuition if i were you. lol

PoliticsRe: Obama In Nigeria, Oh Sorry, Ghana! by shesi(m): 3:44am On Jul 14, 2009
OK, me i'm a ghanaian so i will not delve into the why Obama did not visit Nigeria. Lest i be accused of Xenophobia

But let me correct a few misconceptions i am seeing here;

Our welcoming Obama has nothing to do with any inferiority complex left over from colonial times as it is being implied here by some. That is absolutely bullocks. Obama is not just an American President. If you are a colored person, he is more to you than just another american president. Even to whites he represents something more. We were delighted to welcome him to Ghana because his personal story inspires pride in every black person. It was not that we were receiving the american president, it was that we were receiving the first black american president.

When Bush visited Ghana last year, and when Clinton visited in 1998, there was no excessive fanfare. Just a curteous enthusiatic welcome. We Ghanaians pride ourselves in our hospitality.

Everybody loves it when Obama visits them. And to call us colomental because of our response to his visit is just rubbish. What about Turkey? When Obama visited Turkey earlier this year, the whole country came to a standstill. THis is Turkey, an islamic country described as racist by almost every black person that has been there. Ask anybody you know who's been to turkey. Yet they were trampling over themselves to catch a glimpse of Obama. They were extremely proud that he chose them for his first visit to the muslim world. Was that colomental too?

Obama is not just a US president. He represents a lot more than just the US presidency, and everyone, EVERYONE is happy to receive a visit from him.

@ FL Gators

ya, i know what u're talking about, i think the name makes the person. some names elicit interest and fascnination, and if you know how to play your cards right, you can keep ur audience captivated for a long time, lol.

i like my name. it's undeniably african but only two syllables so not difficult to learn to pronounce. it always starts a conversation. lol.

either half of that name OluwaToyin is nice and ppl should be able to pronounce it.  I mean, if someone claims not to be able to pronounce Toyin, they're just being racist, lol.

lol, u can't be serious. someone actually calls u by your student ID number? hahaha, thats hilarious.  Toyin is not that difficult to pronounce though. it's a lovely name. actually with a name like that i would insist on them pronouncing it cus it's not that hard.

FamilyRe: Do You Like Your Full Name Why Do Nigerians Have So Many Wierd Names by shesi(m): 12:57am On Jul 12, 2009
ya, parents have to think carefully about the bullying factor though. its real. and its serious. kids will pick on any small things that's different about someone to tease and bully them. how much more a name that no one can pronounce. rest assured there will be about 2 new songs every week on the school bus making fun of your kid. lol. can your kid handle that?  most of them will adopt a nickname whether u like it or not.

some kids are mentally tough and wouldn't mind or bully right back. but for other kids, such taunting could scar them for life.

besides, if you only give them the name and don't bother to teach them their language, or culture, which will make them proud of those names, then you are wasting ur time. are you going to force them to also give their own kids african names?  if the kids don't identify with the name, you're wasting ur time cus it will dissappear in less than 2 generations.

this thread is still cracking me up o. I just keep running the OP's scenario in my head. Imagine this, one day you're sititng with your girl just chilling, next minute your parents call ur phone and she overhears them saying 'omo sanjo', lol, you finish talking with ur parents and she's packed her things on her way out, LOL,

first of all, is dominic even a cool name to begin with? lol, i'd understand if the guy went from something sophisticated like wenthworth to omo sanjo, but dominic?

africans take ourselves too seriously though. we are not the only ones who adopt easier to pronounce names. the chinese for example do it too. and they are even worse cus they pick the names straight from pop culture. i can't tell you how many middle aged chinese men i've met with names like justin and spencer, lol, like really? spencer? lol, no seriously my ex boss went by spencer Xi, lol, hilarious.

@abga123

ok, fair point about the accents but i still don't see it as an attempt to deny one's identity. no more so than living in the white man's country in the first place, lol,  when i speak french, i will try to modify my intonation to mimick a native french speaker. doesn't mean i'm trying to come off as french, no, i'm just trying to make ppl understand me better and quicker.

lol, abt the contacts, i quite like those colors. i think its just a fashion statement. like people getting colored braces. but it's a fair point you raise.

@agba123

i agree with what you were saying up until the part about copying accents.

my brother, there is nothing wrong with copying the englishman's accents o. it's their language not ours. so if we want to speak it, we should try to speak it the way they speak it. besides, the purpose of language is to communicate. so if you live in the UK and you insist on talking like you would in lagos, and nobody can understand you, then it's just a waste of time.

lol, also, what's ur beef with contact lenses? do you have something against medical technology advancement?

FoodRe: What Can I Use To Replace Palm Oil In Soups? by shesi(m): 1:03pm On Jul 10, 2009
hmm   , interesting. i'm quite suprised. it seems you make soups differently in nigeria. i didn't know that. well in ghana, no recipe for making soup involves any type of oil.

the way we make palm oil soup is cook the palm nuts, pound it to seperate the red stuff from the nut, and then add water to the red stuff and pass it through a sieve. you take the resulting solution and use it to make your soup. to actually make the soup, they cook the meats and fishes and whatever else first, and then add the palm solution last and let it boil.

this is kinda how they make palm oil itself too except they just boil the palm solution nothing else is added.

anyway, so you let the soup boil and boil and after a while, the palm oil rises to the surface. in your case, when the oil rises to the surface, fetch it off. and continue to boil. It is the extremely high bad cholestrol in this oil that rises to the surface his doctor is worried about. continue fetching the oil off from the surface like that until there is not much left.

What you are left with is pure palm residue at the bottom. paste-like kinda. complete with the taste and everything of palm oil soup but not much of the dangerous cholestrol level in the palm oil (certainly no more than any other type of oil out there) plus this is not oil, it mainly the palm fruit itself at this point. you can dilute this further with water until you get the consistency you want. basically he'll be eating palm soup. not palm oil soup.

btw, how do you guys make soup? i'm curious now.

PoliticsRe: Yar’adua Leaves For G8 Summit On Wednesday by shesi(m): 9:47pm On Jul 08, 2009
@ OP

the columnist you are quoting is wrong on several counts. First of all, this is not the first time Nigeria has been invited to a G8 summit as the columnist seems to be alluding. Obasanjo was present at several G8. Secondly, Sub Saharan Africa is always repesented at these meetings. Senegal's President was present in the last few meetings. Ghana's former President was always present at G8 meetings. They always say Africa is going to be priority at these meetings but at the end of the day it turns out to be mere photo ops.

It's time Nigerians rally behind their leaders or get them the hell out. Everyone complains complains complains but no one seems ready to really do anything about it. If a clear majority of the population feel the leadership is not doing a good enough job, trust me, you dont need to wait for elections to bring about change.

BusinessRe: Ghananian Government Woos Nigerian Investors by shesi(m): 10:44pm On Jun 29, 2009
londener, ok, fair point, my mistake, the way you capitalized 'actively' seemed to suggest to that you were saying nigeria is superior because ghana is wooing nigerian investors.

Ghanaians have no problem with our government wooing  nigerian investors. Is it a ghanaian that started this thread? I'm waiting for a nigerian to explain to me why this thread was put on the homepage. You and i both know it's because some nigerians love to take any opportunity to push ghana down and say they are better than us. or call us xenophobes (i still don' t understand why)

once upon a time, nigeria's star shone brighter than ghana's. this is no longer the case. Instead of nigerians to congratulate us and accept the challenge, it seems to me that most nigerians rather seem to be interested in rubbishing our achievements and taking any chance to say 'ah, see, we're still better than them" "they are just an insignificant small country", "they are the size of a local government' "they hate us", "they are xenophobes" 'what's all the fuss about (btw u are the ones making the fuss o) bla bla bla,

Everytime there is a thread that mentions ghana, all i see if constant hate from all directions. It's a mystery to me seriously. What exactly are the bad things we are supposed to have done to your brothers in our country as i keep hearing on here?

i'll admit. some ghanaians love to rub it in the faces of nigerians by saying stuff like 'where is your so called giant now',

the interesting thing is most nigerians seem prepared to attribute the behavior of this minority to ghanaians as a whole. However, when ghanaians (and other ppl in the world for that matter) attribute the actions of a minority nigerians (yahoo boys) to the whole nigeria, then you all see the wrong in that.  double standards much?

i have seen some nasty nasty statements about ghanaians on this nairaland. I frequently see similarly nasty statements from nigerians on ghanaian websites like ghanaweb. once i read on here how us ghanaians are supposedly dark skinned ugly ppl (since when is being dark a crime in africa?) and are nigerians light skinned? lol, i was simply amazed.

for what it's worth, it would be nice seeing the two countries develop side by side. Wouldn't it be great if both countries became african economic miracles a la the malaysias and south koreas?

But if all we are getting is hate from nigerians, then we can't reply with love. we are not jesus christ.
BusinessRe: Ghananian Government Woos Nigerian Investors by shesi(m): 7:42pm On Jun 29, 2009
londener and akwasi, you two get a room why don't you. this thread is for serious business, not moopie smchoopie nonsense, lol,

allow me to educate a misinformed 19 yrl old. that ifygurl is outta her mind. If you notice, my entire argument has been why the Bleep is this thread even up in the first place? how is this news?

ghana government wooing nigerian investors is not in any way an admission of nigerian superiority as you seem to suggest londoner. are you kidding me? Heck even developed countries seek investment. Angela Merkel of Germany was recently telling investors in Bahrain why they should consider investing in the german economy. Is Bahrain superior to Germany?  That is what any serious government does.

We in Ghana are not interested in comparisons with Nigeria. like i said you don't reach the moon by aiming for Everest, let alone a supposed ant-hill in the middle of a desert.

and its time nigerians stop blaming ghanaians for an image problem they have all over the world. Are we the ones who started calling you 419? the whole world has that perception. let's not even go into the why now.

and as for the claim that ghanaians are xenophobic, as i said before, nigeria is the only country in west africa with a history of state sponsored xenophobia, supported by a vast majority of the populace. Now this same nigeria is crying xenophobia at the least opportunity.

How quickly we forget.

why can't we all just get along? lol, answer is cus there are fools like ifygurl in the system, lol.

Remeber what i said about ignorance and non-existence? Let me repeat it again for you. IGNORANCE DOES NOT IMPLY NON-EXISTENCE. the fact you don't know something doesn't mean it does not exist. think carefully about this before you write any further.

Do you know how many coup d'etats we've had in Ghana?

Your points are just not coherent. they make no sense. And your poor english doesn't help either. Too dificult to read. You're just wasting my time.

seriously, i don't have time to teach history or economics to a silly 19 yr old. did you even make it into college? i'll stop here cus you're obviously not smart enough to  engage in any serious debate.

wonder why the intelligent and smart nigerians on nairaland are not talking on this thread? It's just you and two riff-raff dropouts on here arguing from ur behinds.

@ifygurl

where in the world do you come up with these statements that you make? seriously, you have made so many ridiculous statements i don't even know where to start.

nigeria started from scratch, ghana didn't? usa started from scratch, canada didn't? what are you talking about? So your point is Britain helped Ghana and not nigeria? Again, A BIG HOW? pls educate me. And btw, my point was not that a small population helps is better. My point was that a big population is no blessing. and can infact be a liability, especially when majority of them are uneducated or unproductive.

If you want an example closer to home, i can give you Libya. Libya has a population of about 6 million. In what way is Nigeria better than Libya? there are many other countries right here in africa i could use as examples, Egypt, South Africa.

But ofcourse i know what your next excuse will be. "they have better leaders", Nigerians always have this ready made excuse to explain every failure they have. "our leaders are bad". Who are your leaders? Are they not nigerians too? Do they not come from the same nigerian society?

You have made a host of other funny claims i don't even know where to start from. YOur whole argument is premissed ghana being better than nigeria. But again, i ask you, when did we say that? you mention one or two kids (in your own words) here on nairaland.

so let me get this, its ok for you to attribute the words of 2 kids to a whole nation but when ppl call nigerians criminals because of 419 boys (more than 2) you are all up in arms? LOL, surely you see the hilarity in this.

Look, you guys can go on calling yourselves giant of africa, god's gift to africa, the greatest country in africa, or whatever other self praising names your leaders throw on you to keep you quiet while they steal your resources.

Keep hating while we keep developing our 'local government'. We are moving forward. Ghana's star is on the rise.  We are not interested in comparing ourselves to anybody. you ppl are the ones doing that. WE don't care at all.  All we care about is our own country, and we prefer to compare ourselves with more advanced countries not fellow 3rd world  strugglers like nigeria.

@ifygurl, i knew you were a kid even before you said you were 19. And for your information, 19 IS a kid. at 19 you are by all means still a child. So i hope you are not doing anything thinking you are an adult now cus you're not. Take that from me as a humble advice. You are still a kid at 19. You have a lot to learn still. But i like your fire. You're misinformed but at least you're persistent. nothing wrong in loving your country.

Oh btw, why are you ppl still doubting the Nigerian CEO who deposited fake currency. couldn't you have done a simple google search? anyway, he's a link

http://ghanabusinessnews.com/2009/04/04/how-amalbank%E2%80%99s-lawlessness-causes-diplomatic-row/

the name of the bank is AmalBank. maybe they have a branch in nigeria, i don't know.

For the rest of you, papeijima and rhymz or whatever, you two fools are really not worth my time at all. it's obvious you fell through the cracks in the education system and now we all have to suffer your stupidity.

papaejima, i for one didn't have the energy to read your post. i started but it was too dificult. you don't seem too smart. certainly not worth my time. but i did see the part highlighted in CAPS. For ur information, that criminal consistently mixed fake dollars in proper dollars when he deposited them at the central bank. he didn't do it once, he did it several times. that's why they finally decided to arrest him.

@Abz, where have you seen any ghanaian say Ghana is better than nigeria? Seriously, show me. We are simply not interested in that comparison. What we know for fact is that nigeria is certainly not better than Ghana as many uneducated nigerians seem to think. All you have to say is we're big, we're big, Ghana is just a tiny country bla bla bla

listen, ur population means nowt. 100 million uneducated ppl is just a liabilty. Ask India. Canada has 35 million ppl. Can nigeria compare itself to canada is any way at all?

We are trying to develop our country and all of a sudden there is constant hate coming from nigerians in all directions everywhere we look. They say we are xenophobic. lol, what have we done to make us xenophobic? did we start a nigeria must go campaign? pls educate me.

Isn't it funny how the only country in west africa with a history of state sponsored xenophobia now turns around to accuse others of xenophobia at every opportunity?

Just allow us to do our thing. We are not interested in comparisons with Nigeria. You don't reach the moon by aiming for mount everest.

Think about it, What is the motive of the person who wrote this thread? And the person who put it on the frontage? What is the motive? "Ghana government woos nigerian investors" IS THIS ANY NEWS?? Would it be news if it was the Kenyan government? cameroonian government? egyptian government?

You talk about obsession? who wrote this article? which btw is no news, is it a ghanaian? who put it on the frontpage of nairaland? is it also a ghanaian? so who is obsessed with who?

you say no ghanaian has contributed towards the intellectual development of the world? and then you go ahead to mention some 3 names, who the Bleep are those 3? am i supposed to know them? is anybody that is not nigerian supposed to know them?
you see the point i'm trying to make? don't confuse ignorance with non-existence. it's a classic mistake of fools. but you're not a fool. or are you?

why are you working yourself up for nothing. you are here arguing why ghana is a not a better country than nigeria. meanwhile, no ghanaian has said that. it is you guys saying it yourself. you see the sillyness?

if you've travelled, you know both countries have a long way to go anyway. the difference is one country is working towards that goal, the other is singing its own praises. delusions of grandeur much? me thinks so.

another ghana bashing topic on nairaland frontpage?

folks, patriotism is not about insulting and looking down on another country. especially when you really have no position from which to look down.

i said this on another thread before, all this our leaders, our leaders,, let me ask you this? are your leaders plucked from another society? NO, those leaders are products of nigerian society. so maybe it's time to look at the root of the problem. not the topical symptoms.

"pride comes before a fall", poignant words. and perfectly descriptive of the nigerian situtation i think. when nigeria was on top, the leaders started teaching school kids slogans like "we're the giant of africa", bla bla bla, all designed to pacify the population into silence, those are the same slogans many of you continuosly regurgitate at every oportunity. Those your leaders were smart though, cus while the population was memorizing those meaningless slogans, they were busy lining their pockets with state cash.

how did this topic turn get here anyway? the topic is ghana government woos nigerian investors. what is news in that? why should there even be a thread about this? this is standard business practise. our president was visiting nigeria, and like all presidents do, travel with a business minded entourage to look into business opportunities where they are going. WHAT IS THE NEWS IN THIS? When your president travels, doesn't he market nigeria to the investors in the country he is visiting? is that news?
SportsRe: Nigeria(0) Vs Tunisia(0) on Saturday June 20th by shesi(m): 3:02am On Jun 21, 2009
i hope nigeria can get its act together quickly cus we need Africa s strongest contingent in South Africa. and maybe at the same time we can make it a west african party too.

a draw in tunis is not a terrible result but i watched the nigerian game and i have to say i was a little dissapointed.

do these boys know whats at stake? we re talking abt the world cups for faks sake. wheres the hunger? its time for nigeria to drop some of these so called big boys and get in hungry kids who want to play.

thats what we re doing in ghana now. some of these african kids, once they buy that range rover and that mansion in europe they think they{re all set. they now want to be begged to play for the same country that made them who they are. its time to bench them. take muntari for example. a few months ago he was threatening to quit playing for black stars because some security men allegedly got into a scuffle with his girlfriend cus she wanted to enter the locker room after a game and the security guys said no. imagine that.

look at those brazilians and other south americans. kaka still shows up for friendlies with japan. robinho and co would walk across the atlantic to play for brazil. but not these our boys. some of them think they are too big all of a sudden.

bench them. get local lads in. you{ll be amazed at the results.

@OP

dude you have to sue ASAP. don't let anybody talk you out of it. cus this is shyte. if you can prove even half of what you've just written, i say you have a very solid case.

sue them. if not for you personally, for the sake of future students. this is exactly why the legal system was invented. people should not be allowed to get away with stuff like this.

if the university is smart, they will settle before this even gets to court.

they've really wasted your time. meanwhile, they are probably still going about their business the same way and probably don't even remember your name.

as to what you do next, keep your head up mehn. someone tripped you at the start point but the race is not over by any means. some stumble in the beggining, others in the middle, and some at the end. that you stumbled in the beginning doesn't mean much. it does if you don't get up and continue. but i see you got up. good luck.

An MBA is a Professional Degree. So how could it have qualified you for a Doctorate Degree programme?

One of those fictional Nairaland Posters I guess.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a better question is how he got into the MBA in the first place without a bachelors or work experience (unless i miunderstood his post)

you don't necessarily need a masters to get into  a PhD. I got into a PhD program directly after my bachelors. But maybe the system in nigeria is different idk.

@ poster, sure you can sue. forget about the 3rd class sef, you can sue them purely for misplacing your records and thereby delaying your degree for 5 years. If you can prove that, you have a case. everything else is secondary. your grades don't matter here, and i would be quite amazed to see a counsel for a university arguing that people get jobs all the time without university degrees, that would be quite stupid for a university to argue that.

i don't know about 1bn N though, what's that, like 10mil US? lol, dude, anyway, only you know your value and what exactly you were planning to do with the degree so nobody can tell you it's too much. ppl make 10mil in 5 years all the time. why not you? lol.
