Shoneye Idowu, an undergraduate from Ogitech Polytechnic has been sentenced to jail by the federal high court, in Ibadan the Oyo state capital, for impersonation, Siggy discloses.

Shoneye who said he is a student of marketing from the said institution pleaded ‘guilty’ to one-count charge bordering on impersonation.

The charge read: “That you Shoneye Idowu Segun sometimes in 2020 at Ilaro within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonated the name – Anna Balogun from Texas, United States of America with intent to gain advantage for yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 22 (2) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) of the same Act”.

The prosecution counsel, Sanusi Galadanchi urged the court to convict and sentence Shoneye since he (Shoneye) had pleaded guilty to the charge.

Justice Agomoh convicted and sentenced Shoneye to twelve months jail term and ordered him to refund Four Hundred and Seventy Five United States Dollars ($475).

Shoneye was also ordered to forfeit an iPhone 11Pro Max and one iPhone wrist watch to the federal government of Nigeria.

Education / Solomon Uche : Graduate Who Rides Keke Napep Shares Experience by Sigggy: 4:03pm On Oct 11, 2021
Update from

A Nigerian graduate named Solomon Uche shares his experience with how he went from being an ordinary keke rider to the owner of a big store in Lagos State after running into a young lady he helped many years ago in school.

According to him, the lady identified as Chinelo approached him in the university and asked for assistance after she missed some classes and tests.

Solomon then decided to assist her with nothing attached to it. Many years later, they met again at a fuel station and Solomon, who is now a Keke rider was recognized by Chinelo.

She introduced him to her husband, and they jointly offered to pay Solomon’s house rent for five years.

Chinelo’s husband also gave him a cheque to start a business for his wife.

Read his story as shared on ;

”Sometime, it pays to be good because nobody knows what will happen in the coming days.

There is this young lady, Chinelo, whom i met many years ago in the university, she newly got admission into the higher institution.

Before her first semester examination she approached me and asked for assistance in some courses, although, then i was one of the student departmental presidents.

Due to my influence and probably a final year student, i had a good relationship with almost all the lecturers in the school. With my position then, i used to assist some newly admitted students, mostly those who got admission late and had missed some quizzes, due to my closeness with the lecturers.

This particular girl, Chinelo, approached me one afternoon and was seeking for assistance, she explained to me that she missed some assignments and tests and wanted me to assist her, teach her some difficult courses and also to explain to lecturers about her situation so she could get good grades.

I was touched after explaining how she went to others and they made demands she could not fulfil, in exchange helping her talk to these lecturers. I helped her not because she missed some tests or assignments but because she was a very intelligent and decent girl.

Finally few months i graduated and left the campus for my National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) where i spent one year and later returned to my state in search of work.

After many years of hustling to get a good paying job, so i can provide for my family, there was no good job so i decided to ride a ‘balance and take’ tricycle popularly called Keke Napep.

One day i stopped by a near fuel station to fill my Keke Napep on evening, when i rode inside the station, i filled my Keke tank and also filled a rubber gallon with fuel, which i used for my generator at home.

Surprisedly, when i alighted from the Keke, an SUV who also came to the fuel station to buy patrol, drove off after buying, but reversed back and called me, behold when i approached the car, i couldn’t recognise her, i only saw a man and his wife inside the car but couldn’t remember them.

Then she explained to me that she was the young lady whom i helped out with some difficulty courses and also helped to talk to lecturers in the university many years ago.

I was in short of words, what a small world, she then introduced me to her husband who appeared very wealthy and they both invited me to their house.

When i got to their home, it was massive, i couldn’t hold myself, to cut it short after spending time with Chinelo and her husband, they offered to take responsibility of my house rent for a period of 5 years and gave me a cheque to start up a business for my wife since she had nothing doing.

Chinelo and her husband are indeed a blessing to my family. I’m now a shop owner and we’re making huge sales from it everyday. I’m no longer a Keke rider simply because of the good, i did for a young girl many years ago.

Special thanks to Chinelo and her husband. My advice to young people out there, it pays to be good to others, you must not attach something before doing anything for people because the person, you’re trying to take advantage of simply because he or she is seriously in need of that particular thing may be your helper tomorrow. Do good with free mind, one day your reward will come.”

Education / "Insurgency In Nigeria Is A Plan To Islamise The Nation" - Former ABU VC by Sigggy: 1:34pm On Oct 11, 2021
Update from

A former Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Daniel Saror has claimed that the rampant cases of insurgency in Nigeria is as a drawn-out plan of some individuals aimed at islamising the Nation.

Also according to him, Boko Haram does not consist of miscreants.

He stressed that Boko Haram terrorists are intelligent people who are highly connected to stakeholders in Nigeria and other countries in the world.

The professor made the revelation on Sunday at the thanksgiving service organised to celebrate his 80th birthday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, Siggy reveals.

Professor Saror explained that the insecurity in Benue and other parts of the country was brought by deliberate actions, describing it as a well-coordinated agenda to spread Islam across the country.

He said, “The insecurity we are experiencing in Benue and Nigeria today is not an accident. It is a planned programme. Boko Haram does not consist of miscreants. They are intelligent people; they are highly connected in Nigeria and other countries in the world.

“Their mission is simple: they want to conquer and Islamise the nation. The Jihadists that you hear about in the North West are also not miscreants. They are highly connected, highly motivated, and highly experienced in their own ideas and what they want. They want to spread the caliphate throughout Nigeria.

"The armed Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram insurgents have contacts that extend to the Middle East, Asia, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia among others."

He alleged that they are funded with billions of naira to execute the conquest agenda of the caliphate in the country.

The Kwara Government has begun a probe into the brutalisation of some students of an Arabic school by teachers in the Ganmo area of the state, Siggy reports.

The government set up an investigative committee, comprising Muslim scholars, leaders and government officials, to look into the issue while the head of the Arabic school, who admitted to directing the punishment, has been asked to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation.

A statement on Sunday by Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, explained the government has also taken the affected students to a public hospital for proper medical examination and treatment.

The statement reads: “A Kwara Government’s delegation has visited the Arabic school whose students were seen in a video footage being punished for alleged conducts conceived to be contrary to the rules of the school.

“The team comprised the Hon. Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu; Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion (Islam) Alhaji Danmaigoro; Dr Saudat AbduBaqi of the University of Ilorin; Mallam Lawal Olohungbebe of Kwara State University; and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye.

“The team was joined by the Divisional Police Officer Ganmo SP Oko Nkama; and a representative of the NSCDC DSC Parati AbdulHameed.

“The government’s team carefully listened to the authorities of the Arabic school, the father of the sole girl in the video, and four other students involved in the unsavoury development.

“Regardless of the explanations of the authorities on the development, the self-confessed consent of the parents and regret of the affected students, the government seriously frowns at the harsh beating seen in the footage.

“This is to ensure that none of them suffers any physical or psychological damage.

“The government appeals for calm while the committee does it works and submits a report for further action.”

Update from

Manchester United FC forward and England international footballer Marcus Rashford has received a honorary doctorate from The University of Manchester, UK, Siggy reports.

The initial award announcement was made in July last year, but due to the pandemic, an official in-person ceremony and celebration has been unable to take place until now.

The prestigious award is for his ongoing charity work and well-publicised campaign against child poverty off the field, as well as his outstanding sporting achievements on the pitch.

The accolade is the highest honour the University can bestow and, at just 23 years old, Marcus is the youngest recipient of an honorary degree in the history of The University of Manchester, Siggy reports.

He joins fellow Manchester United club legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have also been honoured by the University in the past. Sir Alex Ferguson joined Marcus’s friends and family in attendance to see the England international receive his award from The University of Manchester’s President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell.

Marcus said: “To be here in the presence of a great such as Sir Alex, and those who have played a huge role in my journey to be where I am today is special.

“I’m here to receive my Honorary Doctorate for my work around child poverty. Yesterday, millions of families across the UK lost a lifeline and a means of staying afloat. A move that could see child poverty rise to 1 in 3 children. For that reason, today is bittersweet.

“It’s time that representatives got out into communities like mine. It’s time they saw first-hand the true measure of struggle. COVID-19 can no longer be used as an excuse.”

Education / UNIBEN Graduate Elected 1st Female President Of Ondo State Students Association by Sigggy: 3:47pm On Oct 10, 2021
Update from

Mary Ogunga has been elected as the President of The National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS). She is not only the President of the highest student body in the Sunshine State, she is its first female elected president, Siggy reports.

Mary, a graduate of English Language from the University Of Benin, Edo State is currently studying law at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

She got 87 votes to defeat her rivals, Olu Ololajulo and Grace Atoyebi, who had 2 votes each.

On her plan for the association, she said her decision to run for Presidency was based on a desire to not only contribute but maintain, develop and rejuvenate the interest of all Ondo State students.

“As part of my plans for vying for this office, it is expedient that I must mention that the education of our student shall be of utmost importance to us. It is important to state that the political objective of the association is education for liberation,” she said.

“Our plans cut across a well-defined system to ensure smooth running and effective participation in competitions, career advancement programmes and seminars, amongst others.

“It is said that 'welfarism' of the members of any association is its main purpose for existence, and this is rightly provided for Section 8(1)(b) of the NAOSS Constitution. We shall continue to ensure the betterment and 'welfarism' of all NAOSSITES via the prompt payment of bursaries when due amongst others.

“While we recognise that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, we have carefully mapped out a social activity plan for NAOSS which is not limited to the NAOSS.

“We are equally working on the provision of a better sporting facility system and igniting the spirit of sportsmanship amongst our students. As a lover of sport and one who was an active member of the Chess Club at the University of Benin, I am not oblivious of the great role sport plays in every association.

“I will ensure a smooth and cordial relationship with the government of Ondo State to provide a ground for better understanding between (the government and) our students.”
