The EU wants to safeguard a steady supply of oil and gas from Nigeria. It does not give a hoot about corruption or peace. Russia which is their major supplier is becoming more of an irritant. It recently threatened to shut down gas supply to the EU. So Nigeria comes as a welcome alternative. It recently signed a multibillion dollr contract to construct a pipe from the Nigeri delta to Europe. |
@ poster Thanks for the info. I sure am interested in building a house in Lagos area. I am looking for info on land purchase to start with, or buying a two storey four flat. I will email you. Cheers. |

This is not a matter ofv being unique to Nigeria or not. That statement would not be the first to come to your mind Paroh_frey if you, your monther, sister or 7 year old duaghter were raped. This is a question of barbarity in human race. The sooner these people are killed, exterminated, beheaded, dissolved, executed, gas chambered and "boko-haramed" The better for this country. Enough said. |

Revealed: The £75,000-a-week footballer who was still overdrawn by the end of the week Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1229291/Revealed-The-75-000-week-footballer-overdrawn-end-week.html#ixzz0XLGcwH2b former Premiership footballer routinely blew his £75,000 a week wages in a matter of days and was constantly overdrawn, a court was told yesterday. Ex-Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins, 25, was paid the handsome salary after he joined the club for a £10million fee in August 2006. But despite his extraordinary earnings, his former management team yesterday claimed they repeatedly bailed him out after his bank account continually slipped into the red. The High Court heard that the Nigerian international player would withdraw £40,000 in cash from his bank account at the end of the week. But that would only last him two days, the court heard, as he topped up with a further £25,000 on the Monday morning. He was always overdrawn and repeatedly relied upon NVA Management Limited to 'manage his life', the High Court was told. Martins, who owned several fast cars including a top of the range Porsche 4X4, spent the money funding an extravagant lifestyle of luxurious penthouse homes and fine dining. He is now being sued by his former management company who claim that he still owes them 300,000 for sorting out his finances. Robert Tennink, for NVA, said: 'Day to day life with superstars is demanding and superstars are demanding.' More, * Hollywood's favourite hardman Vinnie Jones's firm goes bust owing over £100,000 * Wayne Rooney treats Coleen to another night out after son's birth, to see Beyonce for THIRD time this year He told the court that Martins would withdraw £40,000 for the weekend, followed by another £25,000 on the Monday. 'Despite earning these vast sums of money he was constantly overdrawn,' added Mr Tennink. He said the firm, which looks after the affairs of several footballers, film and music stars, said that Martins had agreed to pay them for simply managing his life. It was under their stewardship that Martins agreed a £2million image rights deal 'simply for being Mr Martins'. It's claimed Martins was constantly overdrawn despite earning £75,000-a-week It's claimed Martins was constantly overdrawn despite earning £75,000-a-week He also had lucrative sponsorship deals with various companies including Pepsi and Nike but had not been paid. When the company stepped in to run his affairs they sorted the unpaid contracts, bringing in thousands of pounds. They also organised visas when he travelled to Italy, where he once played for Inter Milan, and sorted out his passport, his mortgage and property valuations. They even arranged critical illness cover and were constantly running up and down the motorway from their London offices to Newcastle in a bid to do all that he required. 'But surely these were things a secretary could do?' asked Judge Richard Seymour QC, referring to the size of fees charged. 'It was a Jeeves-type of role that they performed.' Mr Tennink protested that managing every aspect of his life was just part of what they did, and asked the judge to bear in mind the sort of figures these players earned. He said Martins had come to them in July 2007 and agreed a fee of around £300,000 plus 20 per cent of any sponsorship monies they managed to acquire on his behalf. 'He asked for these services to be carried out,' Mr Tennink told the court. Before they managed his affairs Martins had not been paid a penny for his image rights for the use of his name on Newcastle shirts and mugs and had received nothing from his sponsorship deals. He could not even find the contracts he had originally signed, Mr Tennink added. Martins paid the company £67,500 in January last year and another £25,000 in April last year. But the question for the court to decide, said Mr Tennink, was whether there was a 'binding obligation' for him to pay the outstanding bill of over £300,000. After Newcastle were relegated from the Premiership last summer Martins was sold for £9million to German Bundesliga Champions Wolfsburg. Martins, who once owned a penthouse apartment overlooking Newcastle's exclusive Quayside, is fighting the claim. The hearing is scheduled to last for three days. Useless thread |
What a bigoted fool Oshimhole is. He threatens to close NTA for "allowing the opposition" to voice their opinion on air. Yet he turns a blind eye when the state owned media give loop sided news and lavish praises on him day in day out, denying the opposition airtime ie, Edo state broadcasting service, The Nigerian Observer [Edo state government owned] and the tv/radio station owned by his political godfather Lucky Igbenedion which is ITV Benin. This is the same person who claims to have fought tyrany all his life when that is all he now stands for. Shame on him and his sponsored supporters on Nairaland ie ohisng and jas o. |
HA HA HA Rubbish upon rubbish. Dying days of a confused ad desperate governor @ poster[ohisng] when will you get tired of making a fool of yourself |
Ohisng You obviously went to Benin to receive your share of the national cake, probably from the 13 Billion Naira in the bank. God save Edo state, and NL from people like you. You should know that as an AC member which you had said you are, if you steal a dime from the Edo state treasury, you take a curse upon yourself. So far, Oshiomhole has given rains as excuse for doing virtually nothing. The 31 roads he claims to have done were all patched and not constructed from scratch. The ring road was done at an astounishing cost of 900 million naira!!! Osunbor for all his failures achieved more at one yr in office. I am sure come the end of the dry season another excuse will be drummed up for lack of or no progress. |
@ poster You don finally come naija? |
This is no news. Nigeria is a corrupt country; FACT!! It becomes news when Nigeria is ranked amongst the least corrupt countries in the world. |
Good on him. He wants a better life for his family. |
Simple death penalty is too lenient. They should be executed publicly by firing squad. More dare devil kidnappers like the ones who kidnapped and murdered the 9 month old baby above should be made to suffocate and die in a gas chamer. |
And you think this is a joke. People are passing through and have passed through dire and terrible experiences at the hands of these awful people and you have the guts to make light of it. ![]() |
@ poster how dumb can you get ![]() |
Ohisng, where are you. Probably crawled back into your cave in Abuja ![]() Take these message back to your leaders in Edo AC. The people are not fooled. They need to sit up or get kicked out come next election probably before. Hopefully we will get a credible replacement to the current lots of AC and PDP. |
I respect you for one thing Bluetooth, which your honesty, which some of us here especially ohisng lacks. You rightly said you are not from Edo state which makes a whole lot of diference. Edo state politics is not what you read in newspapers or on internet chatrooms. It needs to be experienced before you can make valid comments. I therefore implore that you listen and let those of us that are genuine indigenes of the state educate you and correct any misinformation that you may have had abinitio. So trust me on this. Lucky Igbinedion is the godfather of Edo state AC. Most ex-PDP members in AC are loyalists of Igbinedion. He has done his calculation, he is an enemy of the state, and thats why he has obviously been keeping a low profile, as any contrary action will mean the immediate collapse of his party. |
" but one thing i know is that Peckham is the place, you have indians shop owners who could speak yoruba" ![]() |
To stop paying ransome removes incentives for the kidnappers however the full weight of the law must be made to bear on them to act as a deterrant. |
They remain good for wrapping "akara" and "moi moi". Also useful for tidying up after visiting the yellow house. |
We were here saying the same things as we want the best person for our state. The same Igbinedion is Oshiomholes political Godfather. Oshiomhole has not put an end to Godfatherism in the state, he has simply replaced one for another albeit Lucky operates differently to Anenih. Why do you think Oshimhole never criticiizes Lucky directly. |
However according to a BBC report today Worgu denied ever drinking. More info on their website. Besides Sudan remains a radical country. They have an international arrest warrant for their president. |
and your point is?, |
Ohisng It will help you to reboot your brain before you make your next post. I thought thats what you have been doing as i see it takes you ages to respond to my questions. However you deceitfully tried to evade the most fundamental one which is you statement made in another thread that you are a card carrying member of the AC and you sole purpose on NL is to defend the position of your party. Allowing Chief Osamede Adun and Goddy Edosa into your party from the PDP though an outrage to many is not surprising to a few who know that C[T]hief Lucky Igbinedion is the sole finicier of the AC in Edo state. Osamede Adun is a CONVICTED murderer, convicted in a court of law, you numpty. Thats not my own interpretation. If thats not enough to ban him from the AC or any political party for that matter then heaven help Edo state and i should not be holding this arguement with you. |
Tony Anenih is quiet but by no means timid |
BENIN— EDO STATE ,yesterday, witnessed yet another kidnapping case as a Deputy Director in the Federal Department of Livestock and Pest Control Services of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, along with his driver, were kidnapped by gunmen between Auchi and Ekpoma. The director, simply identified as Dr. Abubakar, a vetinarian, Vanguard learnt, was said to be on his way to Benin to represent the Minister of Agriculture at the Annual Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria holding in the Edo State capital, Benin City, when he was abducted. The director, who was riding in a Hilux Jeep, was said to have had lunch with his driver at Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, where he spoke with his Field Office in Benin informing them that he was on his way. He later informed the Benin Office that he was being held somewhere in Benin. He, thereafter, handed over the phone to the kidnappers who told the officers in Benin to contact the minister and come with the sum of N20 million for their release. The kidnappers were also said to have contacted the family of Abubakar in Abuja, threatening to kill him and his driver should they fail to deposit the N20 million at a designated location in Benin within 24 hours. Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edo State Police Command, Peter Ogboi, said he was yet to be informed of the incident. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/11/11/gunmen-kidnap-agric-ministrys-director/ |
ENIN CITY — THE Ekpoma branch chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Nath A. Inegbedion and three of his children were kidnapped at Ekpoma, yesterday. The latest kidnap in Edo State is coming barely forty-eight hours after the kidnap of Dr. Ganiyu Abubakar, the Deputy Director in the Department of Livestock and Water Resources in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in the State. However, against the backdrop of recent high-profile cases of kidnapping in the country, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ogbonna Onovo, has directed the massive deployment of policemen, particularly those in the Mobile unit, in major cities across the country, to curtail the activities of robbers, kidnappers and other perpetrators of violent crimes during the Eid-el-Kabir and Christmas festivities. Inegbedion’s kidnap was reported by the Benin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, which at the end of its enlarged executive committee meeting in Benin City yesterday condemned the spate of kidnappings in the state. A statement signed by the Benin branch chairman of the association, Mr. Bamidele Abina and Ogiso Elenbalulu (Secretary) respectively, also endorsed the decision of the NBA Ekpoma branch not to offer its services as legal practitioners in cases of kidnap and armed robbery at whatever level until further notice. According to the statement, “We also condemn the state of insecurity to lives and properties of citizens and other residents in the state with respect to kidnap cases, which has attained an epidemic proportion and hereby call on the Edo State Government and the Federal Government, the Nigerian Police, and other security outfits to rise up to this challenge to further guarantee the security of lives and properties in Edo State in particular and the country in general”. The NBA however, demanded the immediate release of Mr. Inegbedion and his children from wherever they were being held by their abductors. IG orders massive deployment of cops The I-G, at a meeting of all Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police in Abuja, warned that he would no longer tolerate a situation whereby somebody is kidnapped in Kaduna but found in Warri said, “I want to assure Nigerians that this last quarter of the year, we will give armed robbers and kidnappers a run for their money. I am hereby directing all CPs to go back and embark on very high visibility patrols to ensure deterrence. “Mobile policemen, who were withdrawn from illegal duties and unauthorised posting should be immediately deployed in cities to carry out patrols and ensure peace and safety of goods and persons. But Policemen should also be cautious and civil in their approach of people who will be traveling for celebrations. I don’t want to hear anything about extortion, corruption or any form of harassment from our men on the road.” Speaking more on kidnapping, he said, “Nigerians should stop paying ransom money to kidnappers because they see it as a commercial venture. Kidnapping is still thriving because our people go and pay the ransom. We are trying to work out an arrangement with the banks so that in a situation that ransom should be paid, it should be with marked money so that we can go after the culprits”. Meanwhile the IG said yesterday that the Police in Anambra state have arrested the culprits who abducted Pa. Simeon Soludo, father of the former CBN governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, who was kidnapped in his home about three weeks ago. Though he refused to give details as he said investigation is still on to tie some loose ends, Vanguard gathered that Police authorities were still trying to unravel the brains behind the abduction and find out if it had any political coloration. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/11/12/nba-boss-3-kids-kidnapped/ |
