your point is exactly??

Firstly you make reference to Nigerians born in this country look down' . For the benefit of myself and others could you provide us your relevant and accurate source of information backing this.?

Also This post is about Nigerians or Africans adapting the mentioned accents and mannerisms

From reading through the views and comments written by others YOU yourself can see this evedent amongst the society.

If I have to put in any thing personal about my self my dear when i schooled over there for the relevant short time I had the micky taken out of my accent all the time why because i was 'born over here and spoke differently to my other school mateshuh However I didnt feel the NEED to copy an accent I was comfortable in myself and who I was brought up to be!!!!

I'm sorry to say its true what the topic reads just a shame you have decided to come up with your response.

Guys lets keep to the topic and not bring in cultural issues and em barresing statements to cause disruption amongst our own : huh For the purpose to cause what??
Dont see what you are getting touchy about! No seriously if you think i was refering to you in my post i wasnt. (Dont know you and dont know how you sound!)
I am posting from my own experiences. I am Nigerian. I sound Nigerian. A lot of the people who make fun of the way i sound are nigerians. Mostly those who sound american or British. If i was fickle and bothered by their jesting i would have started aping the way they talk trying to put on an american accent just to 'belong'. isnt that why you started this thread? To find out if it was necessary to adapt a foreign accent? huh huh

i lost my virginity at the age of 15. though he was 18 then. i'm still in love with him. it all depends on love. follow your heart big brother

A fifteen year old has no business having sex. The repercussions and responsibilities that come with it is beyond what they can manage. You did it at 15. Good for you ma'am!  It doesnt mean you should encourage every pervert and pedophile to go indulging his desires.

CultureRe: My Boyfriend Wants To 'Take An Oath' In Nigeria by spoilt(f): 2:41pm On Nov 11, 2007
Taking a blood oath is not really a nigerian tradition. It is a spiritual thing. Dont do it. I think your word is enough. You dont have to make any promise backed by blood. If at any time you change your mind about being with him, a lady is allowed to change her mind. grin
CultureRe: Is It Necessary To 'try' And Adapt An American, west Indian Or British Accent ? by spoilt(f): 2:35pm On Nov 11, 2007
I agree with davidylan.
Nigerians born or raised in the u.s or the Uk tend to 'look down' on the accents of other nigerians. I find it really amusing because they actually think they are better than you. angry

When i first moved here i lived with my cousins who sound american. They teased me no end about sounding nigerian. They tried to get me to sound more american (whatever that means!) My english is very sound and will put Enid Blyton (Rest her soul) to shame tongue. Davidylan was right when he said that the real americans or British dont care about your accent. They actually like it. Its only the Nigerians who 'know too much' that make an issue about it.
My clients like my accent. They try to guess where im from. Ive had them guess Jamaica, france, south africa and even Britain. They are fascinated and i must confess that i use it to my advantage everytime!

Even though my cousins sound american their spoken grammar leaves a lot to be desired and the written one will just make you cringe in horror. All the gonnas and wannas and y'alls interjected with aints will leave you dizzy and erupting in shame pox. shocked shocked

i just told them "If i woke up tomorrow sounding like you, i would kill myself" grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
They got the message!!!!

lots of nigerians overseas will try to sound american or british. Its amusing to listen to them. I guess they do it for acceptance or something. They insist that's the only way they can be understood when they speak. They just sound demented. I just think it would be really absurd if every single person on earth sounded american or british or western. Diversity is beauty.

FamilyRe: Should I Introduce My Son To His Father? by spoilt(f): 5:58pm On Nov 07, 2007
The question should be "what is the father's motive for coming back after so many years"? huh
Its not always with good intentions you know. All the people yelling a child needs his father! A child needs his father! should realize that if a father abandons a child and doesnt contribute to his upkeep for reasons best known to him then maybe he doesnt have any virtues to impart to the child. What is he going to teach his son when his son finally gets to sit at his feet?

I am not in nigeria but in the UK.What baffles me is that
the GPs here seem not to know enough about the management.
Sickle cell is a black man's disease. for some reason it doesnt plague white people thats why they may not know a lot about it. But i wish you the best and you may not even have a sickle cell child. My husband's brother defied his family and married his sweetheart. They are both AS. They have 2 sons. none sicklers! much to the relief of his whole family. grin

Ive sacrificed much and worked up a lot of sweat to get my marriage to where it is. The day loverboy 'mr spoilt'
decides that it will take two women to make him happy is the day i take my bow. I am self sufficient with my whole life ahead of me. I seriously cant have another heifer grazing on my turf.

Why is it that men get women pregnant, disappear from the surface of the earth when the child needs them the most only to resurface when the kids are grown up teenagers or older trying to claim them and trying to manufacture a relationship out of thin air? angry

There's something she can do. She can leave! Not everyone wants to be part of a circus.
