Jodera2: But Is this not his style of play even right from Man city or am I mistaken something?
Is these attributes not one of the chief reasons he was bought?
At least, I remember correctly that when we were linked with him, I explicitly (joyfully) said here that at least we are linked with a striker who's a good all-rounder. During preseason and his early season form, why didn't you raise alarm that what he's doing should be limited. Instead I remember one of your quotes where you're praising his energy.
So why are you now attributing those energy you praised as what is affecting him? At Man City he was either a left winger or a centre forward and he got a lot of goals. But he did not spend time in build up or in deep position as he does for Arsenal. In fact the only attribute he brought with him is his pressing. I praise his energy and still do. Do get it twisted, I am not complaining about his lack of goals, as long as we keep winning. But if he feels he has to score then he knows what to do. It totally depends on him. |

Jodera2: I'm not maligning him. You're making it seem as if I'm critical of him when what I've been doing all these while is to show you that he's not sacrificing his goals for his the team. I brought you proofs(ie stats) that showed that he's doing all what other strikers are doing (and even better than them) but the only thing missing is just him putting the chances away and you twist it to me saying I'm maligning him. Na wa ooo
There's a big reason why you can't back up your claims since last year with stats or examples to show that his efforts outside of the box is what is making him not having goalscoring opportunities when on the contrary his the one mostly at the receiving end of goalscoring opportunities.
As for the 2nd bolded... I've told you the reason why so many times but if you've never countered it.
What I just understood from you is that you're using what you perceive of a player to judge the player and not what is really happening at the moment.
Jesus is making runs behind the defence, always available for goalscoring opportunities and always at the ends of our chances.... But because he's always involved in buildups you now believed he doesn't run behind defences, not always available for goalscoring opportunities/chances and not always involved in the box like strikers
It's same way you perceived Tierney as playing stretched width and having more crosses because of how he's been playing in previous seasons when in actual fact, he's been playing the inverted role and has less crosses.
Anyone who notices Nketiah's game recently knows that he drops deep too and try to involve in buildups (just like Jesus) but the difference In quality between both players is stark. But of course he's scoring, so you still feel he's still that poacher who doesn't do buildups or involves in midfield play. But this is another talk for another day!! You misunderstood all my points. Let me clarify for the last time. GJ may get scoring chances, my point is he will find it difficult to finish them off due to lack of composure as he is always coming from deep. It is a difficult task to demand for a striker. No need to say more. My point on Tierney is that if Arteta needs width, he will rely more on Tierney as opposed to if he needs invertion he will rely more on Zinchenko. Please note the bolded. That does not mean that any of them can't play the roles but that we know who is better at what. If a non football fan reads your comparison between GJ and Nketiah, it will be assumed that Nketiah is a better player than GJ. But like you said, let's leave it for another day. |

Jodera2: Lol... You're conflating issues and that's the reason why we're going round and round in circles.
You claim Jesus sacrifices himself for his fellow attackers which makes his fellow attackers benefit from his sacrifices. If to say na Lacazette you dey talk about, I would have agreed (at least that's what I agreed on last year)
Look at this below stats before his injury.. 1... Jesus have the most Shots on target amongst all our forwards (in fact two time more than the next person)
2... Jesus have the most passes received in the opposition box(more than any player in pl)
3... Jesus have the most big chances received and most big chances missed in EPL (more than two times the next arsenal player)
4... None of Jesus shot have been taken outside the box 18
Looking at these 4 stats, does this look like someone who is "sacrificing" his goals and attack for his fellow attackers to benefits?
Darwin Nunez is someone who is trolled cos of the amount of chances he misses too(with respect to what his been provided). I guess Darwin Nunez is involved in much buildups like G.Jesus too.
Darwin Nunez is someone that scored 32 goals last season, I guess me calling him "not clinical" this season is an insult on him too.
It's simple to see that you're very wrong in saying Jesus being involved in buildups means he's sacrificing his goals for his fellow attackers.
And I'll keep on saying it...
The difference between Newcastle game and Wolves game Is just Gabriel Jesus. There are many things Jesus did in that Wolves game that opened their defences that Nketiah just didn't have that quality in him. All those things you said he should stop is one of the key reasons why we're at the top of the table.
I rest my case I agree that Jesus could have made a difference in the game against Newcastle because of his ability and willingness to create overloads in every area of the pitch thus giving the team a man advantage every time we have the ball. That's a testimony of how hardworking the player is. That's the job of the playmaker. I have noticed that Odegaard positions himself on one area of the middle while Jesus does the play making on the other side- like having two playmakers and no strikers. If probably that's what Arteta demands from him. It's OK. But if not then it is not OK especially for him as a forward player. Playing forward means his primary goal is to score goals. So if he isn't focused on that it means he is deliberately sacrificing self glory for the good of the team. I hope the sacrifices would be seen when stats (like the ones you have posted- maligning him) are read out.Yes he does receive the ball in the box, but that's after running all the way from the middle line where he himself have contributed to the buildup. What happens next is that he is no longer in the right composure for a neat finish. This is one area you have not gotten yet. Everyone including himself may feel he should be able to deal with it. May be you feel that good finishing does not require mind and body to be correctly sync, but that's what it is. This is why most strikers like Nketiah, Haaland etc who are focused on goals try to avoid getting too much involved in the buildup. I have used heat maps to clarify this fact. So if scoring goals really is a desire for GJ, then it is either he focuses more on making goalscoring runs, and positioning or he finds a way to work on himself to be able to compose himself so as to finish off chances. This is a tall order My grouse with you is concluding that GJ is not clinical without finding out the reason. Strikers who are good goal scorers don't just become less clinical, something usually is responsible. Either it is psychological or mental pressure. None of this can be said to be affecting GJ. |

Jodera2: You're mistaking me for Spy cos this your message needs to be directed to Spy not me
It's Spy who believes that if a striker doesn't score then he's not doing work for the team.
I even used that bolded as example for Spy too. I don't know why you're thinking this message needs to be directed to me and not Spy tbh The bolded is not correct. My stand is that Jesus suffers or sacrifices his goals for the team by working up himself. It is this sacrifice that makes him not to score goals and allows others to score. It's obvious when you know all our front men have been huge beneficiaries. Yours has been that Jesus is profligate and not clinical. Which I said it's not true, that if he can focus more on goals just as Nketiah he will even do better as he is a better player than Nketiah by all standards include scoring goals. Go and verify. |

Jodera2: That I'm concerned about Jesus not scoring is because he misses chances he ordinarily should have scored as a player (forward). I was once vocal here about Saka not being clinical enough prior to last season (where I sometimes criticize him too). Maybe you didn't observe but Roland did and when Saka started scoring consistently last season, Roland reminded me that hope I've now seen that Saka have started scoring. So no, it's not because he's a striker I'm being concerned... It's because he's a forward. It doesn't matter if you're Jesus or Martinelli or Saka, as long as you're part of my attacker, once you've opportunity to score please do.
And while I understand your point but my point is this. That Jesus becomes involved in other things doesn't in any way prevent him from scoring or affects his chances of scoring. Nunez misses chances, nobody talks about him involved. Werner misses chances too, maybe he too is involved like Jesus.
And yes, they can teach. You think club will just hire attacking coach just for phases. Even Rashford said Ole taught him to always put ball in-between the GK legs when through on goal. Saka acknowledged how Arteta taught him to put the ball high up to score in a tight angle (his goal against Leeds this season). Report talked about how Arteta was working with Martinelli last season when fans where crying about why he doesn't want to unleash him. So many examples.
Lastly I don't know what you mean by the bolded. Jesus isn't clinical this season (misses chances frequently), I say it as it is and you said I'm insulting him? What concerns sacrifice and efforts with me talking about our player missing quality chances biko? You accept that as a forward he should score goals but you are still comfortable having him overwork himself outside his forward role. I mean, you see him as a forward but want him to spend all his time outside the forward role, and yet expect that he should score goals since he is a forward. How can a forward not be in the forward position and is still expected to do his duties as a forward. Let me assume you have not played the position before or felt the impact. I was a forward player and I know that for you to have the right frame of mind and composure to finish off chances as a forward you have to get less involved with the build up. Unless the coach does not place a demand on you for goals, and he is comfortable having you drop deep (Firmino). But if he demands goals output as your KPI in every game, then it is only wise to keep to your primary duties and aim for goals (Haaland). As for Jesus, we all know that Arteta is comfortable having him roam the entire pitch creating chances knowing that Martinelli, Odegaard and Saka will finish them off. Something I regard as a sacrifice from Jesus. However anytime Arteta begins to feel uncomfortable with his goals output, then it will be wise for Jesus to stick to forward play majorly just as Nketiah has done so far. This is because, sooner than later fans will begin to demand for Nketiah to start when goals are needed. |

Jodera2: Lol... It's simple. Wrong decision making when through on goal
I remember last year when I brought pictures of all the wrong decision making he's made and how he's making it hard for himself when he could have simply kept it simple to score (something Saka Martinelli and Nketiah are doing) but you dismissed it as me spamming here with pictures.
Now you're asking me again why is he not clinical?
This is something I believe Arteta will work on tho. If he can work on Sterling profligacy and improve Saka goalscoring too, then I don't think I'll complain of Jesus's profligacy for far too long So one can rightly and boldly say that Nketiah is a better striker right now than Jesus? As Jesus has been profligate (wasteful) and Nketiah is prolific? If you say he brings other things apart from scoring (a lazy way to defend your point) why then are we concerned about his poor goals output? Let me remind you that my stand is for Jesus to get less involved on those "other things" and focus a little more on scoring. This is the only thing Arteta will work on. He is not going to teach Jesus how to score goals like he is a feeder player. I have mentioned other top scoring strikers and how they get less involved in buildup compared to Jesus. Nketiah who is now playing his role in exactly the same set up is scoring goals. Check his heat map and compare with Jesus's and see why Jesus isn't scoring. I hope he gets back soon and learn a thing from Nketiah and you will note the difference. Saying Jesus is not a clinical striker is an insult to the sacrifice, effort and talent he displays. |

Jodera: Our front 3 scored against Westham. Our front 4 scored against Brighton.
So whether Nketiah scores or not doesn't stops our other attackers from scoring too (as it's designed they'll always get into goalscoring position).
The question is: Does Jesus and Nketiah gets at the end of chances?
Your point of Jesus sacrificing would have been valid if Jesus doesn't see quality chances as a striker but on the contrary he does.
So what separates Jesus from Nketiah (and the rest).... being Clinical
It's so simple!! It's simple. But if I ask you why he isn't clinical you will turn eba. Ok, why is Jesus not clinical? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 10:54am On Jan 11, 2023 |
Jodera: Lol, I meant both are not mutually exclusive.
Jesus brings more to the table that can't be denied. It's simple. Nketiah doesn't offer much like him(even though his game now Is developing)
The game against Newcastle needed Jesus more as Nketiah was man-marked.
Like I always say, Nketiah is a good back up striker for us and as he keeps on developing his game the better I have already modified my post to state that you alluded to Martinelli, Odegaard and Saka being the beneficiaries of the other things Jesus brings. So in essence he is sacrificing for the other players. Like I said, it's not about not being clinical. If Jesus plays like Nketiah he will score even more goals. But as long as he 'brings the other things' his goalscoring will suffer. Nketiah has confirmed my assertions. I prefer a Jesus that scores goals than one that brings the 'other things'. |

Jodera: The reason why Jesus is benching him is
1.... He's a new signing specifically ordered by Arteta and Edu. So it's normal for any striker coming in (in such circumstance) to bench the 2nd choice striker of last season.
2... He's more experienced in all ramifications than Nketiah. This needs no explanation
3... The most important of all is that he brings more to the team than just Goals. Yes, striker primary duty is to score goals generally, but it's a fact nowadays that coaches prefer strikers who brings that something extra than just scoring goals(since most Coaches are system manager btw). So when a striker is not scoring, what else does he brings to this team? How else is he making the system click for the betterment of the team? If you think because you're a striker and you're just scoring goals without bringing other facets of the game, I'm sorry you won't last long (except if you're extraordinarily good like Haaland).
There's a reason why Auba will be subbed (even as him came In as a sub) in Chelsea games and coaches will prefer Havertz as a 9 to either Auba or Lukaku (even though say Havertz na another scrap on him own).
There's a reason almost everybody (prior to this season) are all "strikers" in Guardiola team and why he benched Aguero in his prime even went as far as buying young Gabriel Jesus.
There's a reason we hardly had tremendous success in league with Auba as striker (even last season) but we clicked almost immediately when Lacazette started leading the line last season(which was the platform for us going all out and identifying G.Jesus)
There's a reason a Liverpool penchant goalscorer (in Origi) was a perennial benchwarmer while Firmino was their striker for over 4yrs.
There's a reason the "Chicaritos" of the world are going into extinction.
There's a reason Benzema(before Ronaldo exit) who wasn't a frequent goalscorer was their main striker always while Goalscorer Higuain was sold
It's also one of the Big reasons why I was against us Signing Tammy Abraham when he was linked with us last season before his move to Roma even though he had a good goalscoring record.
Until you realize that most Coaches nowadays look at the bigger picture of the team and not just the surface level of "my striker isn't scoring", then you'll stop being crazy about our striker not scoring and look at the bigger picture of how the team fare with his presence.
Now, please, don't misconstrue me by thinking I meant Jesus shouldn't score. No!!. What I meant Is that in this system, Jesus as well as all the front 5 are "strikers"(as the responsibility is now shared for unpredictability), so anyone who have the opportunity to score should please do so.
Jesus should rightly be given the stick for not being clinical(unlike his fellow forwards like Saka and Martinelli) not you wrongly criticizing him for doing the things that's making our system effective. It's not as if both aren't mutually exclusive!! You write long epistles so tey you confuse yourself. I asked a simple question mind you. We complained that Jesus is not getting on the score sheet. I said it's because of his style of play- he gets too much involved in the biuld-up. That Nketiah if given the opportunity will score goals because we already have creators on the wings and centre. That those benefitting from Jesus's style are other players like Martinelli, Odegaard and Saka (something you have now alluded to howbeit unknowingly) You said it's not, but that Jesus is just not clinical. You claimed that Jesus as a striker is not as clinical as Nketiah but that he brings other things which Nketiah does not. Then you compared goalscorering strikers and non-goalscoring strikers and then you ended up in the bolded, that both attributes are mutually exclusive. I think this case is done. |

Izurejoice: Between Gabriel and Nketiah , nketiah is a poacher and a better goal scorer and given equal minutes ,will outscore gabriel , even now their goal ratios are similar , but Gabriel bring so many other things to the game that nketiah hasn't developed. So who is more preferable? A poacher or one that brings other things? As a matter of fact, I prefer Jesus and he is a better player than Nketiah by all standards. I have stated that his poor goals output is due to his over involvement in the build up. Note the qualifier 'over'. He should spend more time in the box and making goal scoring runs and focusing a bit more on scoring than in build up. His goals output will surely improve. So though he is better than Nketiah, but Nketiah is wise to focus more on goals scoring. |

Jodera: I never denied Nketiah won't get more goals than him nor did I ever counter the claim.
The issue is not about Jesus not staying in the box, it's about Jesus not being clinical like Nketiah. I wonder how someone who has the most touches in the box and most shots in the box in EPL and most big chances missed in EPL (before his injury) Is accused of not staying in the box. I've debunked this farce that last year.
Unless he learns how to be clinical (which I believe Arteta is working on him on that aspect as he was already showing signs in the wolves match), Nketiah will still be getting more goals than him and not because of any "staying in the box" claim. Take a careful look at your words in the emboldened. You are implying that Nketiah is a better striker than Jesus. Because for a striker the primary duty is to score goals. Nketiah scores more than Jesus. And you have claimed that Jesus is not clinical- misses big chances etc. If it is true, then why is Jesus benching him? |

Now as regard Nigeria, we Nigerians need to get our head out of our asses. We need to stop believing the system is there for us to abuse it, and use it for our benefit and that of our families.
Laws need to be enforced, penalties need to be put in place, Nigerians need to see that the system works and whoever is found wanting, will listen to the music, no matter who you are. Our religion needs to take a billion step backward and out of maters of state. Our tribal affiliation needs to be tune down, in short, tribalism and nepotism should be a capital offense, and whoever is found guilty, should be sent to 30 years in prison.
Best of all, that aberration we call the 1999 constitution, needs a complete overhaul. Nigeria should come first, not our tribe or religion. I agree totally with you. Every single word you mentioned there. But it creates another problem of who will bell the cat. Because, Nigerians I know and Africans in general will not abandon religion or tribalism. It will take a selfless military junta to reset our heads. |

ShaqFu: bro he will fail. His failure will be monumental. There's absolutely nothing Peter Obi, Atiku or Tinubu can do. The salvation of Nigeria rest on the hands of Nigerians. The same Nigerians who see it as their God given right to misbehave and disobey rules and regulations with reckless abandon.
Did you notice how not just the economy, but our values, ethics and morals always take a nose dive anytime a new president is sworn in?
Things will only get worse because the mind of the average Nigerian is corrupt beyond redemption and the system that is suppose to prevent that corruption has been corrupted by Nigerians. So what's your solution because there has to be one. |

Donjazet2: I thoroughly distaste the constant need to engage in a doom-fest. Ohh, Nigeria is dead and buried no matter what happens.
For fvcks sake, that's a terrible bloody lie, it's a lie you tell yourself as a cheap excuse not to do something about it. In that lie, you want to tell yourself that labor party winning will have the same effect as APC or PDP winning. Like you really believe, that labor party winning the presidency next month will not be a statement alone that ignites massive changes across the entire leadership structure.
Aa it stands today, Obi doesn't have a governor giving him corrupt state funds and expecting favors in return, God knows I would certainly prefer a president without strings attached to him by unknown forces selecting the cabinet than either an atiku or a tinubu cabinet. An executive (LP) separate from the legislature which itself would be divided into two (APC and PDP) is the win for Nigerians. |
