Data structure is one of the building blocks behind computation.
Data structure as the name sound help to structure data in a way to aid communication, protocol, policy and efficient computation.
Algorithms are set of steps use to manipulate(analyze, modify, store, retrieve) data to meet a requirement.

So it is the bed rock behind computational science. meanwhile are you currently doing anything related to computation? like help a business model it's logic into a computer? if yes, learning data structure and algorithms will give a better approach.

Stop using google as a down vote on people dexterity. cramming irrelevant stuff which has been well documented and can be searched through at any time into ones memory is not a prove of good ability because when times comes it does not necessarily become the important ingredient for productivity or excellence.
instead focus on what the person understands.
Ability to google the right thing is a skill on it own and only possessed by someone who knows what he is looking for.

That being said, Data Analytics is a discipline way bigger than just learning excel, it has its theoretical angle and I agree with you on that ground.

Well, I've been coding and developing projects for quite some time, I'm at "regular" level now. I'm quite so familiar with Django, Python, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Panda, Requests, BeautifulSoup etc at the moment. My online portfolio is 60% ready. Hopefully I will launch it early next year.

But...

I've been surfing the internet at my casual time hoping for a job I could fit in when I'm done launching my portfolio. The thing is, I do see most job opportunities with this prerequisite of having a degree. It's always tormenting because I have none. I hope to further my education(I'm currently an ND student, will finish by end of next year) with the little I earn from being a software developer. I always find myself wanting whenever I see that.

I really wish to know my chances of being employed remotely or full-time if I eventually launch my portfolio without any Degree.

Will my portfolio (the projects on it) determine if I can be gainfully employed? If Yes, what are those python/Django projects that can boost my chances so good.

Between frontend and backend, which should one go for and why do you feel so. Advise please

none is better, both are hard as hell based on the kind of project you're building. in some project one could get easy you don't break a sweat and the other could get complex with a blink of an eye. so it's a matter of personal preference. Take for example, the frontend developer is asked to build nairaland UI, he/she would be having a hell lot of fun as he can finish his/her task within few days. now assume the ui is facebook/instagram ui which has different mould on different screens, he/she would be awake all night thinking. same for backend devs too. No easy way out (all the time)
Try out the two at fundamental level and pick one for a professional level
