Politics / Re: Churches, Mosques: Buhari, Governors Strike 5-Point Deal by streetfabulous: 2:37pm On May 23, 2020
I think the main issue is social/physical distancing. So rather than choosing numbers, churches/mosques can be mandated to ensure that worshippers maintain 6ft to the left, right, front and back or worshippers should not come within 36sqft of each other. With this arrangement, the no of congregants will depend on the capacity of the church/mosque. Also, there should be modalities for crowd control especially after worship. Govt can then go ahead to ensure compliance.
Investment / Re: Investors Rush To Nigeria - Bloomberg by streetfabulous: 10:57pm On May 21, 2020
I really don't know the fundamentals these investors are banking on but there is still a lot to be cautious about. I question the resolve to keep spending intact in the revised budget, asides the savings from subsidy cost, are these no other areas to reduces expenses for a budget that is often about 80% recurrent expenditure? I still believe Govt can tighten their belts in some areas so that we can further reduce the 5.4 trillion deficit they intend to finance by debt. I mean, the report projects a drop of 80% in oil revenue and given the increased borrowing, there is the potential of using up to 96% of govt revenue on interest payment. This is a red flag. The govt must review their spendings and priotize cost cutting over deficit financing. Yes, there may still be deficit to finance but I believe we can reduce that figure by first probing and managing to reduce recurrent expenditure. Anyway if foreign investors really believe Nigeria's sovereign debt is worth holding as indicated by the 520 basis point drop in cost credit default protection, then I guess there is a little to be positive about.

Well, I just have to admit sometimes that I don't know everything and I don't have all the information. So, rather than sit in my closet and assume that these protesters are dumb which is the same as thinking in silly pride that I am smarter than these thousands of people, I will prefer to ask if there is something they know that I don't know. Is there something they understand that I don't ? Is there anything they're seeing that I can't see ? Do I really know the TRUTH or do I just know what I have heard from people/the news?
Foreign Affairs / Re: Lockdown Lifted In Accra And Kumasi, Ghana. Ghanaians Rejoice by streetfabulous: 12:21pm On Apr 20, 2020
MainJoe:

You do not get it. They have done their statistical analysis and have come up with a containment plan. They are going to release sub centres and will monitor the growth of the spread. That was what the lockdown was for.

Ghana has spent the three-week lockdown to conduct more than 68,000 tests and draw-up plans to establish testing centers in all of its 16 regions, Akufo-Addo said. Local factories commenced the production of protective equipment while drone services are used to speed-up the transportation of tests, he said.
Exactly. A temporary lockdown is necessary but we must understand that one of the purpose is to come up with containment plans and policies to operate the economy in the midst of the plague. Ghana has come up with how they will operate, other countries are working out plans based on their unique environment and resources to do the same. Nigeria on its own will have to sit down, study, and come up with plans to safely operate inspite of the problem. For instance, aggressive testing, enforcement of masks and gloves, massive and continuous grassroot campaign on hand washing and use of sanitizer, increased capacity of NCDC and health institutions for continued responsiveness to cases, enforcement of quarantine for all persons coming into the country , and so on. If we like, lockdown Nigeria for 5 years, there will still be viruses, plagues, diseases, insecurity e.t.c. Lockdown is not an end in itself, it is only a means to an end.

BluntTheApostle:

Yes, death is death. But Abba Kyari was on national assignment when he contracted the disease.

Moreover, I don't like how we put all the blames at the feet of the government.

There was a story on Nairaland some years back. Someone was stabbed by thieves. He was taken to a general hospital. One of the personnel that should attend to him insisted that he must finish his amala before working. Sadly, the young man died.

Would you also blame the stupidity of the amala eater on Abba Kyari or Buhari or our politicians.

Immediately hand sanitizers became popular, fellow Nigerians like yourself began selling at high prices to make inordinate gains. Should we also blame government for that?

If we refuse to understand that we are all to blame for the mess we have found ourselves, then we may not make progress as a nation.
I share the same view with your last paragraph. While we continue to speak truth to POWER and not make excuses for govt, we all must realize that NIGERIANS are the problem of NIGERIA and our leaders are just a reflection of the majority of us in terms of motive. The difference is that the leaders are the ones in Power, the rest of us are not, and position/power has a way of exposing all our faults in public. Every one of us must begin to reflect on ourselves and begin to purify our motives about leading people, so that if by happenstance we find ourselves there, we will be able to do a better job. If we refuse to take collective responsibility, I tell u, Buhari will be a saint compared to the leaders this country will produce in future.

There should also be a sub-analysis of the figures for Lagos by local govt area where the affected persons reside. This may help spot a trend so that govt can aggressively pursue door-to-door search/testing in these LGAs.

Health / Re: US Explores Possibility That Coronavirus Started In Chinese Lab, Not A Market. by streetfabulous: 3:50pm On Apr 16, 2020
wman:
Very true. I knew that long ago. Though China did not create the virus. It is one of the numerous bat coronavirus that they were studying in their laboratories. But it got out of the lab by mistake. And the stupid Chinese government tried to cover it up instead of informing the WHO and taking the right measures on time. Wuhan has the largest virus bank in Asia.

Do you know that SARS could have ended in July 2003? But other cases broke out from Chinese labs that were studying the SARS virus, thus preventing SARS from being eradicated until 2004.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002%E2%80%932004_SARS_outbreak

The first case of SARS was recorded in Guangdong, China in November 2002. The stupid Chinese government did not inform the WHO till March 2003, after which cases had spread to Taiwan, Canada, Hong Kong and other countries.

WHO officials had been in Beijing China since February 2003 bases on suspicions. The Chinese government did not allow them to visit Guangdong till April 2003. That was when the US government withdrew their citizens from China and schools started to shut down in Asia.

Chinese officials later admitted to undereporting SARS cases by as much as 1300%. So, 4000 people could have SARS and the Chinese government will report 40. Some experts even suspect that the percentage was more than that.

China messed up the world with SARS and they are doing the same thing with Covid-19. Hundreds of thousands will die because of China. Jobs will be lost. Companies will crash. Economies will die down all because of the stupid Chinese secretive policies.

Do you know that there were at least 3 other virus outbreaks between 2004 and now? But, their governments acted fast, thus saving lives.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Middle_East_respiratory_syndrome_outbreak_in_South_Korea

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Middle_East_respiratory_syndrome_outbreak

China even lied to the WHO that the coronavirus couldn't spread from human to human. They are also lying that they had only 3700 deaths when the number of vessels used to collect ashes of death people in Wuhan within that period was far far more than that.

If China had reported the truth to the WHO on time, all these wouldn't have happened.

The virus isn't man-made but it escaped from a lab where they were studying various bat coronaviruses. Same way the SARS virus escaped from Chinese labs from 2002-2004.

Everything that happened back then is repeating itself now. Check the Wikipedia page and see for yourself.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002%E2%80%932004_SARS_outbreak
Wow!! shocked shocked Though I am a bit cautious on what to believe about this whole corona episode, I must say that I am really astonished at this information about China, SARS, and corona virus. No wonder USA argued that WHO should have displayed more scepticism in accepting China's initial account on Corona virus. My God !!, there were even safety concerns about the research on Bat corona virus long before now. How come WHO ignored all these historical these red flags.

For those of us who are comfortable and forming social distancing and isolation in our comfortable apartments, thinking it doesn't concern me, I tell you, if we don't begin to draw the govt's attention to this impending chaos and show more concern, then even our castles will not save us. Yes, if we have a greater number of people who cannot afford food, then the rest of us are outnumbered and will not move in safety. Please if you have folks around your area that need something as basic as food, pls go out and assist them. Let's do our bit while we mount pressure on govt to take responsibility. These people are not asking for much, they just want food to eat .

That it has not been scientifically proven could also mean that an attempt at concious research has not been made.it doesn't necessarily mean it is false .
Fact check is more than quoting sources and WHO experts who have not even taken the time to understand these herbs.
I was hoping to read about a specific case where it was tried and disproved in the fact check but I was left utterly unsatisfied.
Every nation is looking inwards for unique treatment solutions. Nigeria should not be left behind. We must be open to all ideas and step up our research game to prove/disprove claims.
Shouting down every claim as False is hardly what we need now.
Even the hydroxyl chloroquine that WHO and so called experts are still playing hide and seek about, have you ever thought of how Nigeria and other African countries are treating and discharging folks at a better rate than some of these western powers.
I mean, people are getting treated and coming out -ve, why can't we zero in on that and ask how ? Why the gross fixation on fear, panic and utter hopelessness on something that is obviously treatable? Yes we know what is happening in USA, Italy e.t.c. , but is it not possible that God through nature has graced us to defeat this nuisance and help other nations? Even our climate here is a blessing. We will rise above this virus.
Let's just be open to ideas and you will be amazed how many Nigerians have defeated this nonsense virus codedly.

hush15:

Corruption can be a end result of bad training but not all bad upbring can lead to a corrupt personality.

Let's not forget that there is also the influence of learning environment, peer pressure, social influence, religious influence, political influence. The first school of every child is the parent and most parents in recent times are failing in their responsibilities, nonetheless, like the old saying goes, if you don't learn at home, you will learn from outside
The discipline in child upbringing should help them make the right decision in the midst of all such influences you raised. If these influences can still pervert them to become corrupt inspite of all the discipline, then that discipline was ineffective and without purpose afore-thought.

That's a Big Lie!

Corruption and Lawlessness has a lot to do with how a child was raised.
I totally agree. Trying to divorce corruption and lawlessness from child upbringing doesn't hold water. If one claims to have disciplined his/her kid and the child ends up a corrupt leader, then I dare say that such form of discipline was ineffective, a failure and a waste of time.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Top 25 Highest Goalscorers In Premier League So Far by streetfabulous: 4:49pm On Dec 11, 2019
FemiMaduka:
.

You don't know Tammy! Tammy is the typical specimen of a Fox-in-the-box. He has scored 26 goals in a season TWICE, and 99% of his goals come within the 18 yard box. He is a striker and so his hunting range rightly lies within the opposition box.

I don't know why people choose to always discount his ability. Of the top goal-scorers, he is about the only one that has gotten his numbers purely without taking any penalty kick—Vardy has taken about five penalty kicks, same thing for Rashford.

Many people would say the 50+ goals he scored in two seasons came at an inferior level [Championship], but I wonder how they comfortably forget that this guy has already gotten 11 goals in 15 EPL games so far and that at this rate he would end up within his 25-30 goals region.

He has a very decent hold-up play; he is very good at aerial balls [his ability to bring high balls down and control with his chest is Drogba-esque]; his positional sense is top-notch; he is fast and surprisingly quick for a 190cm-man; he has GUTS [asking for the 'hoodoo-ed' #9 at Chelsea]; and he is fucking 22!

If a striker puts the ball at the back of the net a good number of times, then what exactly is the problem?
I love this. This is how people should present their point and argue their case/preference with convincing analytics and not bother us with shallow sentimental aspersions as arguments.
