A heavy fine and hours of community service would have been more appropriate for this offense. At least the fine wil be revenue to FGN. Now the Govt. will incur expenses to accommodate an extra prisoner in an already congested prison system.

Business / Re: ‘How CBN Can Track $26bn Binance Transactions’ - Obinna Iwuno by streetfabulous: 11:14pm On Mar 06
ivolt:
The writer has been fooled. He thinks he can help CBN on a goose chase.

The $26 billion is a figment of Cardoso's imagination.
They needed a scapegoat for the falling Naira and they found
Binance a good spot because some group of idiots kept posting Binance's USDT
rates as the true exchange rate even though we know that USDT is not
dollar and you don't need dollar to buy USDT.

With the fact that Binance has been banned in several western and anti-Chinese
countries, the CBN latched on to it and label the platform the face of evil.

If the CBN believes that Binance determines Naira exchange rate, all it need do is
to push its own agents or make deal with some BDC to register on the platform and
manipulatively sell at the lower "true" rate so those quoting the rate will be forced to adapt or leave.
It could alsoe have secretly pressured Binance to remove or limit the activities of the "manipulators".
Binance did about a million dollar-Naira transactions per day. Imagine if the CBN opened its
own kiosk to generate $1 million USDT at the true rate, the "manipulators", would run out of business
or be forced to sell at the "true" rate.

But the government needed the theatrics, an external scapegoat that people can curse and attack for the bad economy.
It is all showmanship.

In few months, the whole Binance issue will not be mentioned anymore and it will be quietly retired.
We won't get any update about the $26 billion or the owners again after that.
It warms my heart to know that we still have intelligent people like this who can see through the whole chicanery. Binance was just a scapegoat for the real culprits to pass the blame. How most people don't get it is what I don't understand.

Nothing to be excited about. I&E closed at =N=793.70 today. The market is still very volatile. It peaked at over =N=800 last week Friday. Until the supply side liquidity is addressed, any appreciation in NGN will be short lived and not worthy of news.

Illiterates everywhere, Spanish warship ESPS Vadaz also arrived at Lagos port last month for military ties.
Relax. The concerns so far on this forum are valid. That a Spanish warship was in Nigeria last month does not explain anything. If you are knowledgeable in such matters then help the concerned folks to understand how this is normal because using the terms "Warship and diplomacy" in one sentence is somehow. If the reason for the warship is to explore areas for military cooperation or for knowledge transfer, then that's fine. There should be a more specific reason for a Chinese warship showing up on our seaport than just saying for "diplomatic visit".

..NNPC should not be the sole importer. License should be open to other willing players.
..Government must still maintain regulation in quality control to ensure that adulterated fuel is not brought in by importers in the bid to beat competition by cutting cost and increase margins.
..For a level playing field, CBN MUST NOT INTERVENE FOR ANY IMPORTER INCLUDING NNPC. Importers should source for FX wherever they can find and at whatever rate that will sustain their margins.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: "What Has A Leg Chain Got To Do With Acquiring A Job" by streetfabulous: 2:27pm On Mar 21, 2023
In life it is not always about good or bad but about wise or foolish. It may not be bad to you and many others but under that circumstance it may not be a wise thing to do.
Most people are first emotional before rational. In other words, it is how they feel about you first before they consider how smart you are. Even if you are very qualified for the job, you should realise that there are other candidates just as qualified and smart as you are. So among several equally qualified candidates, one major consideration is the employers impression or perception about you. Well in this part of the world, it may be difficult to create a decent perception wearing a leg chain even if you may turnout to be a very decent person.

Politics / Re: New Naira Notes: We Have No Information On The Supreme Court Ruling - CBN by streetfabulous: 10:14pm On Mar 04, 2023
FreedomArmy:
So supreme court is now overseeing monetary policies in Nigeria? Wonders shall never end.
The daily limit on withdrawal is actually a good idea. This has drastically reduced kidnapping and other forms of criminal activities in the country.
The Supreme court is not challenging the powers of CBN to create and drive monetary policies.
Please understand that even with the powers CBN has, there are certain monetary policies that the Apex bank cannot take unilaterally without proper consultation with key stakeholders and economic decision makers in the country.
The Supreme court is faulting the recklessness of implementation in that the CBN did not even consult the Council of state, Federal executive Council, National Economic Council e.t.c.

The CBN governor went straight to the President who demonstrated ignorance by signing the policy without demanding that the CBN carry out the necessary consultations.

Hence, the court rebuked Buhari for acting ultra vires and as a DICTATOR. This recklessness on the part of CBN and Buhari created aggrieved parties and represents a breach of fundamental human rights.
That is why the Supreme court insisted that they have a right to hear the case because if the powers you have infringes on human rights and creates aggrieved parties then the court can hear the matter. After all, every power, even the powers of CBN and the President is derived from the Law.

Politics / Re: Old Naira Notes To Continue To Be Legal Tender Till December - Supreme Court by streetfabulous: 12:46pm On Mar 03, 2023
President Buhari has told aggrieved parties in the election to go to court. He must therefore obey the ruling of the Supreme court and compel CBN to do so. He must show that the supreme court can assert itself and must be respected otherwise he has no moral right to tell anyone to seek legal redress. If he fails to obey this order, then nobody will have confidence in the ability of the court to deal with electoral fraud which may lead to extra-judicial alternatives like violent protests. The President must please obey the ruling and compel CBN to do so.

Yes, they should seek legal redress BUT President Buhari is not in a moral position to give this advice since he himself in collusion with the CBN totally disregarded the SUPREME COURT order on the naira redesign. What moral right does he have to advice anyone to go to court when he so brazenly undermined the Highest Court of the land ? Anyway, l hope he obeys the next ruling. Be that as it may, let all aggrieved parties eschew violence, gather irrefutable evidence and head to court.
Politics / Re: Your Policies Hurting Ordinary Nigerians, Atiku Tells CBN by streetfabulous: 11:13pm On Feb 19, 2023
Some who are not even supporters of Tinubu and APC knew at some point that this policy may end up in Tinubu's favour.
1. Tinubu needed an opportunity to dissociate from Buhari's governance failures. This was the biggest factor that could affect his chances at the polls. The naira redesign policy and fuel scarcity gave him that perfect opportunity and he is using it very well. You can insult Tinubu all you want but you can't call him a Fool when it comes to Politics. Underestimate him at your own risk.
2. Money is a very emotional subject. Whether you like it or not, majority will vote based on emotions rather than logic/common sense. People will now vote on who will give them value for their old notes that they are unable to return to CBN. People will now vote for who will make it easy for them to withdraw their money. In summary, because most people are emotional and think in the short run, they will vote for anyone who can solve their immediate and current problem right now. You may chose to live in denial but this policy will end up giving Tinubu SYMPATHY votes.
3. I believe Atiku and maybe Obi must have realised this. I will urge them not to be very quick in supporting CBN because CBN's motive is still not as clear as we may have been lead to believe . They should only issue statements that takes side with majority of the masses at this point.
Whatever the political motive behind this CBN redesign policy, it can NEVER be because they want Atiku or Obi to win. They have something else in mind which is still not clear at the moment. Atiku or Obi must NEVER take sides for or against CBN. They should only echo what majority of the masses want right now. The time is very short.

Politics / Re: 2023: Naira Redesign Policy Has Minimised Influence Of Money In Politics- Buhari by streetfabulous: 10:52am On Feb 16, 2023
Most people are talking about billions stashed away by politicians but your President just said that 2.7 trillion of the old notes representing about 80% has been retrieved by CBN. This means that much of the so called stashed away billions have been returned by these politicians. In fact, these politicians have also collected a large share of the new notes which is partly the reason for the scarcity among ordinary folks like you. Please let's stop fooling ourselves into thinking that it will affect politicians because IT WILL NOT!
See, I am not a Tinubu or APC fan, but this policy summersalt will not affect his chances. In fact, he may still win the election. He can even turn it into a strong campaign point that he will amend the policy if elected and because a lot of people are suffering from this policy they will side with him. Those of us sitting in the comfort of our homes and offices thinking everybody is in support of the policy because it will curb vote buying are in deception. Go out to the streets and find out. The politicians you think may lose out will still win convincingly and at the end this policy misadventure will accomplish nothing but suffering and misery for the ordinary folks.

Honestly the CBN gov. is not providing leadership in this situation and more people are beginning to feel that it is a deliberate ploy to create confusion and chaos. Why can't the CBN release a simple statement stating whether or not it will comply with the supreme court ruling. The Supreme court ruling whether controversial or not is an important turn of events to which the CBN should have responded so that banks and the masses can know what to expect.
