Mintek: I'm not surprised at your veiled jibe at this vastly-experienced woman, given your political leaning.
You expected her to fully diversify our economy within 5years?
Every economic index during her time as FM/CME portrayed a progression towards economic liberation- increased FDI, Nigeria featuring in the MINT-class economies, highly-rated on JP Morgan's list, a consistent GDP growth, etc but the inordinate quest to return power to the North at all cost fueled by religious/ethnic sentiment eroded everything.
Here we are now all "enjoying" Buhari together.
Sad!
Symbolic jesters that don't mean anything.
MINT means nothing and the so-called FDI was by speculating investors on the Nigeria stock markets. I am more interested in the numbers of investment in factories, power infrastructures, rails, roads, technologies in fact Nigeria started to deindustrialised under GEJ and Iweala government, many multinational like Dunlop Cadbury, Michelin relocated their operational capacity to Ghana under GEJ government.
She got one thing right she took foreign debt in local currency.
The Iweala of 2003- 2006 is not the same Iweala of 2011-2015. She was brilliant under OBJ and set the foundation for a great country.
9japrof: She warned she begged, but she's just a staff, who could only recommend...
The onions was on Jonathan and the governors
She could have resigned. If she had any credibility she should have resigned...period.
She was the minister of Economic Planning (Strategy) and Minister of Finance virtually the virtual prime minister of Nigeria. Had she resigned, the GEJ government would have lost all international credibility. Instead stayed in government and was part of the excess of GEJ government including depleting the reserves and excess crude funds, transferring $2.1 billion to Dasuki
She should have resigned 2012, when GEJ went against the advice of the Finance Minister, Governor of the CBN and Minister of Petroleum, three of the most critical arm of government, that oil subsidies must be removed.
festacman: Congratulations ma, but I would have been happier if in your times as Finance minister, you initiated diversification of Nigerian economy.
Having studied the terrain in your first stint under Pres. Obasanjo, one had expected concrete action on diversification in your second stint as coordinating minister of cabinet/Finance Minister of Finance under Pres. Jonathan. Things could have been a lot better if you did that but all is now history. You are certainly world famous but you have few legacies at home.
Wishing you all the best, still.
She was a disaster under GEJ government despite holding two critical ministerial portfolios she failed to set the strategy to move the country away from oil dependency. She had high oil price funds at her disposal to fund the rehabilitation of the Ajaokuta Steel plants, the national rails and the four refineries but did nothing.
Instead of diversifying the economy away from oil exports, the country increase importation of luxurious items, the debt profile increased and foreign reserves were depleted. She met reserves of over $60 billion and left the country with less than $25 billion despite high oil price.
I will like Igbo's that are chanting Igbo Amaka to advise how she managed to deplete the reserves and excess crude funds despite high oil price.
EdiskyHarry: When will my region, "Niger delta" have sense? The whole vegetation of Niger delta has been destroyed as a result of oil activities everyday. What has Niger delta benefited from this crude oil, is this oil money only meant for enriching the northern part of Nigeria on the pretext of fighting Boko Haram?
Your benefits are the corrupt politicians and collaborators such as Rotimi, GEJ, Akpabio and many more.
ddippset: Go to India, USA, Germany, Britain, Russia and see proper health care systems which have been developed and continue to be improved over the past 50 years.
But we are surley going to have some useful National idiots who are going to ask why the National health care system has not become world class since 2015.
Very useful National idiots!
No one is disputing that the previous governments have been poor and incompetent, the problem is that this government was supposed to end the rot, instead, they are continuing where the previous government stopped. You don't require 50 years to build world-class health systems, within two years, the fabric of world-class health systems can be put in place, Nigeria already has hospitals, medical schools & universities and health workers, what the country lack are the leaders that will prioritise the operation of a national health services for all Nigerian.
On the 5th July 1948 an historic moment occurred in British history, a culmination of a bold and pioneering plan to make healthcare no longer exclusive to those who could afford it but to make it accessible to everyone. The NHS was born.
The National Health Service, abbreviated to NHS, was launched by the then Minister of Health in Attlee’s post-war government, Aneurin Bevan, at the Park Hospital in Manchester. The motivation to provide a good, strong and reliable healthcare to all was finally taking its first tentative steps.
Babatunde40: The Ijaws are fighting akpabio because he is from a minority tribe in the region. Replace akpabio now with their person, they will calm down. Rubbish
Here lies the root of Nigeria problem, primitive tribalism.
The fact that Akpabio has a questionable relationship with the contractors Rodnab Construction Ltd or that the projected has been inflated by a whooping N10 billion, has been missed by Babatunde40. All he can see is the conflict of between two tribes.
xperiencelove: We know if crude oil rise to the normal $60 per barrel, cost of PMS(petrol) may rise up to #200 per liter. My headache is some people may sit down at one corner and embezzle the funds and we will have nothing to show for it and if at all, they will use part of it to develop northern state infrastructure alone. NNPC bigwigs are the ones that doesn't want refineries to work because they are feeding large from refining our crude oil elsewhere. Also please how many Kyaris do we have in political appointed offices in this Buhari govt.?
Nigerian are major shareholders in refineries in South Africa, Ivory Coast and Spain
seunmsg: You’ve not even seen the details of the amended budget and you’ve started wailing. What exactly are you wailing about? What is wrong with slashing the budget in the face of the current economic reality?
The 2020 budget was based on oil price selling at $57 per barrel.
Considering that the average price of oil was $57.00, with low at $46 and high at $66 the logical approach would have been to base the budget at $30 per barrel to manage any oil price shock. In fact, Nigeria budget should be based on tax revenues and duties.
We have an accountant acting as the current Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning three critical ministerial portfolios within one person that has been part of the corrupt Nigerian civil services since 1982 and she is completely out of her depth intellectually and leading Nigeria to complete disaster with her rubber stamp budgets.
asapeola: Its not about defending Buhari's govt. There's a precedence and personally i just cant get over it! I still ask one question: how come we couldn't pay salaries n had to borrow during a period when we had the highest ever oil prices?
Maturity is understanding the plight and appreciating the current situation. Have u watched election debates in other "saner climes" many people always quick to compare Nigeria with? U dont hear c etc cos they've risen above such basic stuffs. This is because previous leaders alrdy tackled such tins. But here in 2020, we still on that in our country. The next set of elections in 2023 will also be based on these things!
Its really worrisome! Previous leaders didn't do well and the current ones aren't any better
Chief,
2023 election will not be about stuff like bridges, roads, water and electricity, but high debt and low oil price.
Iweala failed as the 2011-2015 finance minister, but the current bunch APC clowns, have been a complete disaster, in less than four years they have increased the country's debt profile to $100 billion on a potential annual income of less than $15 billion per annum.
Ibbrroo88: How did the she manage, share and distribute our money when she was in charge......birds of the same feathers......
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has her flaws, but she is much better than the rubber stamp accountants ( Kemi Adeosun and Zainab Ahmed) that can't stand up to the cabal self-interest budget and loans.
JAMO84: Rwanda has the same population with Kano, they can afford to feed everyone in that country for ten years. That's not to say we cannot do better, it's corruption that's killing us in this Country!!!
I AM DONE TALKING
Incompetence is the first stage of corruption.
Look at the cultures of people that constitute Nigeria, they have always been wicked and brutal to each other, I pray that Nigeria will be recolonised because Nigerian are incapable of managing a modern country. If we are not careful Nigerian will soon return to selling slaves to the highest bidder.
Modern Nigeria started at Windsor Castle, on 23 November 1851, when Ajayi Crowther, the first of Nigeria’s founding fathers, surveyed West Africa with Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert and said Lagos must be bombed.
On 7 April 1822, when the 13-year-old Samuel Ajayi Crowther was rescued from the belly of a slave ship heading for America, he thought all was finished. A year before, around breakfast, together with his mother and sister he was captured by Fulani slave raiders when they attacked his village of Osogun, 140km inland of Lagos coast.
The Ijebu man who bought him took him south-eastward to Lagos and sold him to the Portuguese slave ship Esperenza Feliz, meaning Free Spirit. As he lay chained from the neck to the deck, he thought of his father killed during the Fulani invasion of their village, he thought of his mother and sisters whom he would never see again. He thought of how he was exchanged for a horse, wine and tobacco leaves. He despaired and awaited death as the ship sailed towards America.
Even America with the while Military hardware's will not take it's president for a raid.
Una Sha go won talk!
What else can one say when responding to a useless ex-minister.
“Chadian army is a well-trained army in guerilla warfare. Nigeria has more than 8 military colleges and many training facilities across the country, I guess they spend majority of their time training Nigerian soldiers on how to steal funds and play politics.
1.Air Force Institute of Technology 2.National War College 3.Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) 4.Nigerian Naval Engineering College 5.Nigerian Military School Zaria 6.NASPRI: Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information is the foremost military public relations training institute 7.Nigerian Army School Of Military Engineers 8. Nigerian Army University, Bui located in Borno State.
They have been fighting an insurgency for years. Well Nigeria has been fighting Boko Haram for more the 10 years by now they should have learnt something
“So, the Chadian army is a very hardened army, well-groomed in desert and guerilla warfare. Well, we all know that the Nigerian army is more interested in roadblocks and Dubai apartments.
Chad also spent more money on arms and ammunition than any other challenges they have”, he said. Chad national budget is $1.9 billion. Nigeria allocated $2.2 billion to the Nigeria Armed forces plus an additional $1 billion with limited results.
It fair to say either Boko Haram are Military Genius of Napoleon dimension or Nigerian army is useless and hopelessly corrupt.
Shattuck: for the past 60 years what has Nigeria been doing crude oil sales yet poor infrastructure with little or nothing to show for our collective existence, yet they are still borrowing to fund their greed and corruption, its funny when I see Nigerian govt presenting budget, budget for what does our educational, health ,infrastructural sector etc looks like anything that money is been spent on after borrowing that much what difference will it make would Nigeria get quality healthcare no,its still gonna be the same old dilapidated structures.
The quote below is from Abba Kyari, from the book by Karl Maier: "This House Fallen: Nigeria in Crisis.
¨With thirty-six states, we have thirsty six governors, thirty-six deputy governors, an infinite number of permanent secretaries, political advisers, members of state assembles to the point that 90 per cent of the stat´s entire income goes to service these people, who all live in the state capital and constitute an insignificant part of the population.¨
The state structure is literally taking all the money for itself and (that) which that there is no education, no health services, and an abundance of illiteracy and poverty. as long as you keep the structure going, you are going to have problems in Nigeria. It translate into social and political instability and it is thrown into ethnic and religious fault times.
¨If we do not solve the educational problem in the next fifteen years, we are just going to be slaves and nothing else, perhaps not to chains and nothing else, perhaps not with chains but it´s as good as good as slaves.
Nigeria has allocated all the national debts on paying salaries and imports or in another word consumption.
idealogical: Dangote donated this isolation center, besides there's nothing to criticize here. When they do, you complain and when they don't, you still find something to complain about.
You just can never be satisfied no matter what..
Common man, they have beds close to each other and no ventilation, the aim of isolation centre is to isolate the patient from the general public and to isolate the patients from each other by maintaining social distance.
If the government is wrong they must be called out, even if they are trying.
Tpave: Corruption is the greatest challenge Nigeria is facing today
Primitive cultures are Nigeria greatest challenge, corruption is a symptom of Nigeria primitive culture that is designed for surviving and not self-actualisation.
dazzlingd: The bullet from a 14 year old is as effective as that from a 40 year old. Child soldiers have been known to be the most deadliest, they have nothing to lose and see war as a movie. Pls respect the men that faced these guys bullet for bullet while u are here typing behind your keyboards...
Meanwhile , many of those soldiers are even below 25...where was your dad, brothers, and uncles when these man risked their lives for your nation. Some of them suffer permanent disabilities.
You cowards should respect the army, they are not the cause of your frustrations , they suffer more from the incapacity of your government....please they deserve one thing, respect them or rather keep shut
Behind every bullet is a brain that pulls the trigger and the brain of a 40 years old is supposed to be more matured than the brain of a 14-year-old kid.
I have no respect for the Nigerian army that has proven that it lacks discipline and leadership.
Xisnin: Lagos state government needs to make examples of the organizers. There is no way these people could have come out together unless someone organized them.
The so-called Nigerian middle class or educated class are idiots. Stay inside means stay in your home.
Humanoid01: Lol. All of a sudden, China's confirmed cases and death rate started decreasing significantly. That didn't happen by chance. There's gotta be something they did to control the situation. Maybe they brought them over for that purpose. I think that's a fair guess.
The Chinese enforce compliance, people were forced to stay at home, while their government provided PPE to the doctors and palliative to the people.
All this government does is beg, steal or take loans that Nigeria can't afford,
JAMO84: Nigerian army had conducted thousands of military operations against boko haram and they are still there doing their best to keep our Country safe.
If Buhari had to turn up for every single operations to boost morale, would he have time to do any other thing?
You people are not willing to give the Nigerian army all the praise they deserve, but I appreciate their commitments and dedications.
Boko haram hasn't been able to successfully attack any major Nigerian city since Buhari became President. They can only attack villages with less than 500 inhabitants and also lay ambush for soldiers traveling through some highways.
Whether anyone is willing to agree or not, Buhari's government has decimated BH to a large extent and the people of the North East recognized that fact, reason why they turned out in large numbers to re elect him for a second term.
I AM DONE TALKING
Fulani militants are attacking Nigerians across Nigeria towns and villages.
Dino Melaye has called for the demobilization of 5G network which he claimed has been mounted in some parts of Nigeria.
The former Senator who described 5G network as evil, stated that it kills the immune system, affects the respiratory system, causes cancer and hypertension and indirectly causing the deaths of Coronavirus patients.
He back his statement by sharing videos in which plants growing near a 5G network were affected by the fifth generation of wireless communications technologies.
Dino Melaye stated that some deaths can be avoided by stoping the deployment of 5G network in the country.
Ishakam: Hi guy's good day and just want you to know I'm not proud doing this as it's insensitive of me during this time but I no get choice sincerely as Hungry wan finish me and there is no how to go out to hustle for even na daily bread. Please appeal to your state LGA and state government, they are your elected officials and responsible for your well being during these testing times, if that doesn't work then you can appeal to your colleague or friends.
justnock: This country is a disgrace. Wrong people are ALWAYS at the top. Those that can solve problems are always ignored. BEGERIA should be our new name and not NIGERIA.
The right people are on top, if we don't like them we must fight for our country and remove them.
