His movies were always boring and unrealistic, always finding a way to squeeze Baba Suwe into the script. And the sound of his voice always annoyed me back then. I just never liked anything from his stable.

Only Fuji Gyration by Pasuma and Malaika et al gave him good image, eventho Cossy's bouncing melons kinda wanted to put the elderly audience off. He rode on the luck of dat album for decades!

This sounds like a fabricated story, but if its TRUE, then i can tell you that as much as 95percent of our spiritual battles occur between 12-4am. Most of our battles are fought spiritually at midnight-and according to your testimony, your problem started with bad dreams at midnight.

If you can dominate these hours spiritually with praises, worship, fasting and aggressive prayers, bible reading, for like 3 weeks, your situation will greatly improve.

Ignore this hours at your own spiritual peril, try it and you will thank me later...cheers smiley please note, i am not a deliverance minister, i am just sharing things i have exprienced.

Please note: midnight prayers can only work if you are born again, are you?

Education / Re: Adebola Olubamiji: First Black To Get PhD In Biomedical Engineering In Canada by sunnyeinstein(m): 10:35pm On Jun 09, 2017
slurryeye2:

You touched so many points in your post and I respect your intelligence. I agree with you that hers is a success story especially when one considers where she came from. Her story would have been more appealing if the topic has been a former street hawker in Ibadan bagged PhD in Canada. Just like you observed, I saw some flaws in her write up. Claiming to be the first black to graduate in a program from a particular university not only show some complexity, it also show someone yearning for recognition. Also, the fact that she mentioned getting her PhD as something she did for Mama Africa shows how much self proclaiming and attention yearning she is. Mama Africa surely deserve more than taking one of her daughters getting PhD in a field where tens of thousands have already gotten PhD as an achievement. Mama Africa deserves her children building citadel of knowledge that can compete with anywhere in the world, she deserves her children pioneering new technologies and ideas, she deserves her children leading the front in advancement and civilization.
I go to website like kickstarter and indiegogo, I see people of other races crowdfunding for innovative ideas and I come to Nairaland, I see people celebrating Efe and BBN, people celebrating someone that printed based on logistics on a t-shirt, people celebrating politicians etc. And I ask myself why do we celebrate mediocrity so much in Nigeria.

HAHAHA, almost all Nigeria's social media forums are filled with tribal wars or slay queens showing big butts/b00bs these days but none with the brains. Even news companies have joined them.

Honestly, we celebrate mediocrity because generally we have made ourselves comfortable with mediocre conditions. Case in point: No basic amenities from the govt so we provide them ourselves, but govt brings bills for those amenities they refused to provide but provided yourself, we still pay. We are toothless, we are gifted but act like d brainless ones. We have so many erudite people with great and innovative minds (in all fieldss from sciences to socials to arts) but all they are after is comfort and the opportunity to be able to 'eat the fruit of their labour'... an inexistent, waka-pass labour that trickled down from the hubris of our looting system of govt. The ones that manage to leave this country of ours for the good life out there forget entirely their roots of existence, another set come back to flaunt the coins, while a new batch is bent on recruiting for slavery purpose.
This is not to say we do not have the courageous ones, however, most of them bow to societal pressure just like our dear Biomed Engineering blackwoman has done right from the start of her journey.
A nation that does not invest in research will always be a piggy bank: save for years, spend it in a couple of days, borrow some more and hope conditions can allow to start saving again and d cycle continues. The industrial boom in Asia (Japan, China and Korea Rep., and presently India to some extent) was made possible by taking ideas from the developed countries like America, Germany and Europe generally. They learn their methods, go back to their countries and use these method while also continuing to improve it regardless of what the west says. This was made possible by both human effort AND govt support. But here in Nigeria, a prof gets grant for a research he uses 60-80% for personal things and publishes on rubbish that is not applicable as his findings but they'll always shout govt doesnt support them (and yes, the govt is not doing much in that regard). A scientist in a research institute doesnt even know how to write a research proposal! An economist is always concerned about how he'd break even and squeeze more out without thinking of the society at large. The banker is eyeing black market sales to increase his income while some of them are the middlemen for yahooboys n other economic fraudsters. An artist makes paintings/plays and other works for food on the table, not something to inspire the nation.
To pause my epistle here for another day, the summary here is that we should hold patriotic nationalist views and not the "finally i made it" material way of life. As Nigerian citizens with opportunity to learn modern methods, it should be our patriotic duty/obligation/thinking to understand such methods, bring the ideas home to solve a problem our country, present the opportunity to the govt and/or organisations and watch what'll happen. Truth is the government cant ignore forever as long as more and more possible solution to our problems using worldwide accepted methods are being drawn to the attention of the govt. One of such will finally break the barrier and our dear country will start its recovery journey. WE NEED THAT CHANGE!

First of all, I'm a black person, I'm a Nigerian and I'm from Yoruba tribe.

Now to the topic. What's so special about having a phd in a program that it has to make a frontpage in the most popular forum in Nigeria?

We need to stop all these celebration of mediocrity. She is the first black to have phd in biomedical engineering from Canada (which I'm very sure is not true) and so freaking what.

I can bet with anyone that there are many blacks that would have had phd in biomedical engineering before June 2017
University of Toronto
McGill
University of BC
Queens University
University of Montreal
University of Alberta
Waterloo etc.
All offer doctorate in biomedical engineering. Are you now telling me none of those schools have ever had black graduate before now?

This is not something worth celebrating abeg and very ridiculous to see people jubilating on this undecided

I like your submission about this, the only place i have an issue is the celebration. She deserves to be celebrated as a success story not as a pioneer Dr., 'cos i definitely bliv there'd be many black biomed Eng doctors in McGill especially; maybe she's claiming pioneer in that school only but trust OPs and NL mods.
Moving on however, i dislike the fact that she saw herself as black! That's inferiority complex, its bigotry to thyself which is worse than racism which she's just spewed out in opposite direction, hitting herself in the process! We should identify ourselves as Nigerians, promote patriotic and nationalist views. She even wrote that she got 2-1 from OAU without which shoe couldnt have gotten the opportunity to become this Dr. today. Now, where is her show of gratitude to the country in all of this? We we may not have the expertise and machinery the western and some eastern worlds have but we'd get there and the only way its possible is if we get training from them and use their machinery to solve our own problems. People would shout government left right and centre but what have you given the government to celebrate you about? Now you'll wonder why they'll celebrate Efe for winning bbnaija. Its because of the need for success stories to portray the country in good light but they only get that from sports and entertainment industries. School graduates, especially academic researchers (our glorified doctors) do not think of making the country proud. All they look for is a job and thereafter collect stipends to live a good life, but what is your contribution to that life? They look to publish whatever anywhere in time to get promotion and get to become a professor of nothing! Its not that they're entirely responsible for this as the government angle is there, but.........
......this epistle is for another day. lets just keep this like this for now, i apologize

He's mid-west, stay in ibadan, and their houses got searched for igbos but they, in conjunction with their yoruba neighbours, ensured that the soldiers didnt leave with one single ibo man. At a point the soldiers nearly went violent against them because they couldn't get any ibo to take along n molest/kill.
