Sincere 9gerian: I know that you guys will latch onto any and everything to score cheap political points but we should show some rationality at times. The Nigerian railway is just coming out from coma and even from the report above you'll see clearly that the management is battling to overcome the problem of congestion it currently faces and the complaints about poor services
Duh! So you are just realising that we all should be rational and non partisan in our approach? Hoping to see you do same when the tide turns! Government should address the lack of maintenance on infrastructure and rolling stock, and improve on service delivery. Anything worth doing, is worth doing right!

Sincere 9gerian: What is there to laugh about? That the trains are having technical hithes?

The trains move tens of thousands of people on a daily basis in Nigeria. If a few percentage of this numbers complains of poor services, it shouldn't take away the good services others have enjoyed.

Definitely, if you interview all those that traveled by air or road today, you'll still find a certain percentage that are not satisfied with the services they received.

However, the good news is that the NRC are bringing in more coaches and locomotives to tackle the concerns raised
Forget it, there is nothing for you to spin here. You must assume we all are lean-witted and don't know how the modes of transportation operate efficiently elsewhere. This isn't the first time we are reading of passengers complaint and poor service delivery within the three months it took off. There is a thread on a Nairalander's experience from Ilorin to Lagos, and what he complained over is similar to this.
See also www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/poor-service-delivery-threatens-railway-rehabilitation/

Agreed we are to experience some teething problems, but it shouldn't be on "old engines, faulty systems and recurring technical hitches." Is this how to justify the billions of naira spent on its rehabilitation? The minister of transportation and others involved in the rail project needs to be probed! How can a train recently refurbished with taxpayers' money, break down in four different locations between Lagos to Kano? I suppose all na Fresh Putrified Air!

mikeansy: I think ACN can start by listing Boko-Harram's demands and tell Nigerians which of the known Boko Harram demands they wish to concede to. That is what responsible opposition parties do!!!!

ACN should tell Nigerians which of the following demands by Boko Harram they are will to concede to:

1. Suspension of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
2. Practicing Full Blown Sharia in all parts of Nigeria
3. Rejection of Western Education / Civilization
4. Prevention of Girls from going to School

Which of these demands are ACN willing to accept? that should form the basis of any dialogue on amnesty.
Incisive post!

I wasn't expecting a schmuck to understand my post. Yes, the president referred to them as ghosts because none was willing to come out openly to dialogue with the government! If you had put your brain to work, you would have realised that I only questioned why those arrested were yet to be prosecuted! Just may be, because they are "Ghosts"! Politics › Re: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by takedat(m):
PapaBrowne: Sorry Sir. It is not political desperation but Strategic Decimation!!
If the coalition is not smart enough to get something as simple as registering a name right, is it the task of dislodging a multi billion dollar party that would be easy?? This simply shows that while the coalition is shouting on the newspapers, other parties are strategising!

Whining is for girls. Strategy is for kings! Obama says this constantly: Power never lets!! You go after it. It would not come to you because you want it.
I pity the opposition. It's ranks are completely lacking in strategic thinkers but swelling with pathetic whinners! The only strategic one they have is the lion of Bourdillion. Fortunately or unfortunately, he has his own personal cards and would discard the coalition when it doesn't align with his own mathematics!
Well, the allegation that PDP is behind the other party isn't farfatched based on their antecedent. Accepted that it is all a strategy to weaken the other party, since politics aint a fair game. What some of us find amusing is PDP's earlier stance that they are not jittery only for them to resort to crude tactics.

The coalition did not err by picking a party name way before its registration. For those who are aware of the provisions in the electoral act for the merger of parties, he or she would know that it will take a long period of time before they can satisfy all the requirement for approval. The little progress the party have made is because they have a name attached to it, no one would have taken them seriously especially the naysayers and armschair critics if they hadn't come up with a name.

The other party is also yet to be registered, and there is nothing to convince one that they have nearly fulfilled all the conditions. There is still an opening for the coalition APC, and if not, they will always have a plan B.

And do you think they are a bunch of noise-makers like your own APC for them to come out in the media to be joining issues with anybody? tongue[/quote]Slow your roll! If the FACELESS APC had long submitted their application to INEC before the merger came to be, why didn't INEC as a neutral umpire immediately informed the coalition party when they came out with the communique of forming APC, that there is an existing application for the same acronym as picked by the merger? INEC cannot claim it wasn't notified by the respective parties in the coalition of their intention to go into a merger, so why wait for weeks before making it known to them? Since 7th of February, INEC just saw the need to call their attention to it on the 10th of March after all the publicity! What a Mockery of institutional incompetence!
Politics › Re: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by takedat(m): 11:57am On Mar 11, 2013
PointB: Party are not registered on pages of newspapers or online forum. Anyone who wishes to register a party know exactly what to do. I don't think there is any law requiring them to publish their intention. For all we know, they might have been planning the registration before the merger even thought of a name. And their prudence neccessiated that they act now or lose their name.

The merging party can either approach them, or choose a different name. Party names don't win election anyway, so game on!
The parties involved in the coalition had earlier notified INEC of their intention to go into a merger. There are certain procedures/requirements to be fulfilled by the parties, before approaching INEC for a name change. During the course of fulfilling those requirements, they came up with a name so as to prove their seriousness and convince cynics of their readiness and true intention. Agreed that meeting the requirements requested by INEC would take time, there is nothing wrong if INEC called their attention to the other association requesting the same acronym as chosen by the coalition. The only thing wrong with it was the hush-hush manner the other party rushed to INEC. That was why I asked for the time and when the party approached INEC, and who the major movers of the party are. The desperation involved in packaging the other party, is the reason why some of us are crying foul!

There is nothing sacrosanct about APC, and like you said, party names don't win elections. I am sure the political actors involved in the coalition are savvy enough to have a Plan B and C. They are well aware that PDP will make moves to stymie the merger!

Maxymilliano: It will be tomfoolery for anyone to blame INEC.
My questions to you are, when did the FACELESS APC approach INEC? Why was it shrouded in secrecy for this long, knowing fully well that the coalition party had also chosen the same acronym? Why haven't we seen the movers of the other APC come out to lay claim to the acronym, since they were the first to approach INEC? Bro, all na Abracadabra of INEC and their puppeteer!

Only in Nigeria will the electoral umpire be an integral part of the ruling party. Obviously, the progress being made by the coalition party is rattling and unnerving PDP. Paul John: I think it's the weaker party that should be so desperate in using any trick available to challenge the bigger party. It seems it's the other way round, shameless PDP must so scared to have gone to this far if true. While some Laptop crew members wanted us to believe PDP is at ease with the emergence of the merger cheesy
It's obvious PDP has only survived due to poor democracy being practiced in Nigeria before now. All in all, I wish the right person is eleccted irrespective of the party he or she is with.
Bro, even this trickery and treachery of theirs won't work. The other "Faceless" party is yet to be registered, the threat coming from the opposition is just to put INEC on its toes. Apart from PDP members getting jittery, those other folks who are against the merger are blinded and motivated by clannish sentiments/resentment and animosity, they are not bothered if we truly run a true democracy or not. To them PDP's do or die and wuruwuru politics is fair!
Politics › Re: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by takedat(m): 8:54am On Mar 11, 2013
Who are the sponsors of the other APC? PDP ghosts! This is nothing but an act of political desperation from a party that mouths platitude about being the biggest political party in Africa, yet its panicky over the rising profile of the coalition party and has resorted to aggressive underhand measure to stymie it. There is nothing sacrosanct about the name/acronym APC, what matters the most are the political participants in the merger and what they have to offer to Nigerians. The movers of the party are savvy enough politically to have a plan B,C and even D. GMB who said earlier that PDP is in cahoots with INEC was right on point!

Though, I am 100% sure that INEC won't have a choice but to register APC(the coalition party) since the other "abracadabra" APC is yet to meet the requirement for registration, and going by the threat of the coalition parties! PDP's politics of intimidation, wuruwuru and harassment won't stop the emergence of a suitable opposition to it!

Maxymilliano: And what fascism is Lai Muhammed talking about? How can INEC refuses to register APC after it would have met all legal requirements?

The question that should be asked is if truly there was a registered party with similar acronym as the APC.

A precedence was set a while back when Chekwas Okorie, founder of APGA, tried floating a new party 'United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA)'.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) came out with a claim of UPGA sounding like APGA and with the rising sun, allegedly the Biafran symbol, as logo, hence the turning down of the application.

The dude had to make do with the United Progressive Party (UPP) which was successfully registered by INEC.

How can Lai Muhammed, a lawyer, in a quick attempt at shifting the blame of lack of due diligence on the part of proponents of the new party he represented on the FG, claims ignorance of the extant provisionary laws that guides discretionary powers of INEC in registration of new party huh

There's no need to over heat the polity with spurious claims, it is with same vein General Buhari claimed INEC is extremely corrupt and a PDP siamese twins. But was it not the same General that went to court with INEC figures to argue his case?

His party won some States declared by same INEC, His party man displaced PDP in Nassarawa and many of his party men are legislators at State and Federal levels courtesy INEC certificate of return. Yet, he didn't reject results where the guys won but only calling INEC a rogue in the areas he and his men lost...

There's need for a level of political maturity and sophistication rather than opposition parties crying wolves where there's none...
From the record available on INEC's website, there is no party with the acronym of APC!
www.inecnigeria.org/political-parties/

Now, INEC claims there is an existing party with the same acronym, yet we have no knowledge of when it was registered and the movers of the party. There is also nothing on ground to suggest its existence, and at a time INEC is said to be de-registering parties that failed to meet certain electoral requirements, how come the supposed party(APC) without structures on ground or known membership is yet to be de-registered? Was the party registered recently? Why is the party not listed on INEC's website?

It is outright ridiculous and ludicrous to assume that members of the coalition party did not take due diligence before coming up with the acronym of APC. Even if we assume they erred in that regard, why didn't INEC call their attention to it immediately the merger came up with the acronym but INEC had to wait for the coalition party to present its logo before INEC awakened to its responsibility? Isn't these enough grounds to suspect foul play on the part of INEC? Institutional incompetence on the part of INEC!

GMB has a right to his opinion, just because we have seen selective honesty on the part of INEC does not make it less corrupt and impartial. This sudden abracadabra of an already existing APC has made his fears justified!

Lastly, if truly there is an existing APC, why haven't the members of the party come out to accuse the coalition party? When did calling for a peaceful protest become a call for an imminent lawless action? Isn't PDP heating up the polity with all the shenanigans of 2015 election and a purported single term agreement which is unconstitutional? Don't tell me you are among those who want an impotent opposition!
