One of the 10-member armed robbery gang that shook Lagos three Sundays ago has told why they were ruthless. During the attack, three policemen and three civilians were killed. Members of the gang were paraded yesterday at the state police headquarters, Ikeja by the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko. The suspects are Uche Okeagbu, Emmanuel Ezeani and Chinonso Nwaugwu, all aged 23. Recovered from the suspects were two buses which had specially fitted compartment for arms and ammunition storage. Found on the buses were two rocket propellers, grenade launchers, five dynamites with a detonator, two general purpose machine guns, nine AK 47 riffles, 225 AK 47 magazines fully loaded, 260 rounds of GPMG live ammunition and 10,000 rounds of live AK 47 ammunition. Okeagbu who confessed that he fully participated in the bloody Sunday robbery said; “We usually target 10 robbery operations at a stretch. We don’t just strike but after our operations, we normally travel out of the country for sometime until the dust settles. He said “on that fateful Sunday, we had the people we targeted for the operation but we misfired.” Continuing, he said those killed had tried to disturb their operations. “We became ruthless when some people tried to block our ways but the policemen we killed were on their own. But we hate seeing the police because they are our enemies.” He advised members of the public to always run away when they sight armed robbers during operations.” “Whenever people see armed robbers, they should not try to stop them because anything can happen. Learn lesson from those that we killed that Sunday. They tried to stop us but we stopped them first. You know our business is between life and death, so we don’t joke with those who want to stop us.” Okeagbu revealed that after the Lagos robbery, they ran to Kwara State. “We robbed some banks, that was four days after the Lagos attack. We also attacked a police station. We took over the police station before we robbed the banks.” “When we got to the police station, we fired sporadically into the station and all the policemen on duty took to their heels and we moved to the Divisional Police Officer’s (DPO) office, we met him in the office, and he was confused on what was going on, so we told him that we were armed robbers and that our members were robbing in the bank. We warned him to cooperate with us and he said no problem. He offered us seats and we stayed with him until one of our members came and told us that they were through. We left him panting.” He refuted the report making round that one of their members was a woman. “No, no, no, he is a man but he has big breasts like that of a woman. He is very fat. He is a man.” The Commissioner of Police (CP) Umar Manko who paraded the suspects said on September 23, operatives of the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), led by its commander, Mr. Abba Kyari, acting on a tip-off, stormed Kemba-Hausa area of Ajangbadi where the suspects were arrested. Manko said during interrogation, Okeagbu led the police to their armoury, two buses where the arms and ammunition were concealed. He noted that whenever the gang was operating, they would drive the buses to the location, park in front of their target places and after operations, they would buy bags of garri or any other goods and use them to cover the mask where their evil weapons were hidden. He revealed that one of the gang’s operational vehicles also has a sensor, which the robbers used in monitoring their back while escaping from the robbery scene. Manko who was elated by the big catch said, “When the robbers struck, I vowed to fish them out. Efforts are still high to making sure that we arrest other members of the gang who are on the run.” One of the suspects Nwua Ugwu who was shouting on top of his voice said, “I did not follow them that Sunday. I am not denying being a member but that Sunday, I swear, I did not go with them. They only sent me money for recharge card.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/national/rambo-style-robbery-why-we-shook-lagos-suspect/ |

The Anambra State Police command yesterday discovered another private armoury this time at Umuihefula, Umuaku village in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area. This is barely two weeks after a combined team of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives in state and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP’s) Special Task Force on heinous crimes recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnappers and armed robbers. Yesterday’s operation which was carried out by the same SARS under the leadership James Nwafor (SP), saw the policemen arresting one of the kingpins, Emeka Ezekude in whose custody was the arms and ammunition. However, another suspect whose name was given as Sunday Nwachukwu from Ezumeri Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area was said to be on the run. A combined team of SARS on a tip-off was said to have cordoned off the home of the suspect, Emeka Ezekude, where two AK47 rifles, one type 06 rifle, one rocket grenade, 27 AK47 magazines, three rocket propellers, 770 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition and nine chains used to lock up kidnap victims were recovered. Daily Sun gathered that Ezekude’s arrest was made possible due to information supplied by his relations. The rifles allegedly owned by Sunday Nwachukwu were kept in the custody of Emeka, who allegedly escaped when the police arrived but was later arrested as he went to one of the new generation banks to withdraw money possibly to enable him to escape. The arms and ammunition, according to the police, were like the Oraifite incident, recovered from two giant plastic drums buried in the hideout of the suspect at Uli. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ralphael Uzoigwe, confirmed the arrest. He said effort was being made to track down Sunday from Ezumeri-Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. Also commenting, a senior Police officer who spoke in confidence told newsmen that God has indeed come to the rescue of the command and taken control of affairs. On September 3, 2012 when Ifedike (Ofeakwu) was arrested at his home in Ifite Oraifite, the Police recovered from his underground armoury 27 AK47 riffles, one K2 rifle, two type-06 rifles, one GPMG, one rocket launcher, 17 rockets, six pump action guns, three Dane guns, one Berretta pistol and 13 rocket grenades. They also recovered from Ifedike who allegedly confessed having introduced kidnapping in the South-East 12,800 rounds of Ak47 live ammunition, 530 rounds of LAR ammunition, 95 rounds of GPMG live ammunition, 1, 000 rounds of K2 live ammunition and 143 magazines, totaling 14, 425 rounds of live ammunition, just as they recovered nine chains they used to lock victims. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/national/police-discover-another-arms-cache-in-anambra/#!prettyPhoto |

A Greek-operated oil tanker seized off Togo was tracked down on Wednesday off the coast of Nigeria under the control of pirates, the ship’s operator and Togolese authorities said. The seizure early on Tuesday of the ship, which is operated by Golden Energy Management, underscored the growing risks to ships in the Gulf of Guinea, where piracy is rising but still not as common as off the coast of Somalia. “The vessel is presently sailing off the coast of Nigeria under the control of pirates who have the intention to steal the cargo,” Golden Energy Management said in a statement. The firm said they were in touch with a French naval ship that was nearby. The crew are believed to be in good health and unharmed, the statement added. The Greek coastguard said there were 24 people on board, none of whom were Greek. Colonel Inoussa Djibril, spokesman for the Togolese army chief of staff, confirmed the ship had been located on Wednesday morning in Nigerian waters with pirates on board. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2012/08/29/stolen-greek-ship-found-on-nigerias-water-ways/ |

A Port Harcourt Magistrate Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man, James Okosun, to six months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a Nokia phone valued at N2,500 and some other amount of money belonging to one Saqir Sabiu. Also, the court ordered that the convict should be given 10 strokes of cane before he was taken to the prison. Okosun was arraigned on August 16 on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. He was said to have committed the offence with one Ali, male (now at large), whose surname was unknown, on August 10, at 51 Freetown Street, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The charges read: “That you James Okosun (M) and one Ali (M) surname unknown now at large, on August 10, at 51 Freetown Street, Port Harcourt in the Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516(A) of the criminal code laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999. “That you James Okosun (M) on the same date and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal one Nokia phone valued N2, 500 and some amount of money belonging to Saqir Sabiu (M) and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390(9) of the criminal code, laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.” During the trial, the magistrate discharged Okosun on count one, which was conspiracy, but found him guilty on count two, stealing. tunes2k10: i don't think the team that planned the layout of Abuja were that dull to have made such a mistake, cos when planning for one rich man, you have to attach 6+ common man to him(that could come in form of driver, cook, cleaner, gardener, market woman, gate man and the likes) who as well will have their own family members.I share the same opinion with you. A rich man cannot stay without the middle class and the common man They are even increasing the population by selling the nass residential building back to nass members who are suppose to go back to their constituency at the end of their tenure. |
