European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Breaking News! Manu Buy Micheal Owen by Tatase(f): 5:15pm On Jul 05, 2009
When I heard, I too as a United fan was horrified and outraged, but then I found out he's a free transfer and we're barely paying him any money (he'll be one of the lowest paid at the club but with the opportunity for scoring bonuses) and I suppose its not that bad. Worst case he can keep Hargreaves company in the sick bay or make up the numbers in training. Maybe he'll even score one or two. At least he's cheap and the expectations are not high. Not like with <clears throat> Berbatov.
SportsRe: Serena Vs Venus Who Is Better by Tatase(f): 5:08pm On Jul 05, 2009
I don't think it's age o. . . Serena is only like 1.5 years younger. I think she just has a wilder personality than Venus and its not in her nature to use finesse or restraint. Her game is her game and it's mostly about like her power and she's plays a (for want of a better word) wilder (and more raw?) game.

Venus is like a gun with a silencer. Serena is like a bazooka.

Fifth and final set. Here goes nothing,
Abi o, come on Federer!!!!!!!!!!!!

(As an aside, this whole A-Rod thing. I thought there was already an American sports A-Rod who used to go out with Madonna. Na wa o.)
SportsRe: Serena Vs Venus Who Is Better by Tatase(f): 4:58pm On Jul 05, 2009
I personally prefer Venus. I think she's a little calmer and a more mature player. She has Serena's power but she's a little more in control of it. I think she could be a potentially wayyyyy better player than Serena because sometimes her (Venus's) game seems a little restrained. I think this might be why Serena wins more than Venus because she puts everything on the court.

I can see why Roddick is always injured. . .

He's playing, but Roddick has a very heavy/strong serve and Federer has made a few mistakes. The game is interesting!
Foreign AffairsRe: Nigaz! Someone Has To Sack Their Marketing Team by Tatase(f): 4:46pm On Jul 05, 2009
@ topic:

I think the name is funny, if nothing else. . . Not to be insensitive (which means I'm about to be very insensitive) but I'm not surprise the name slipped through. . . The word is not as bad in naij because we were not slaves or do not have the American slave history like that to make us give the word such a weight. It's not a word I use but basically to me o it's a word that black Americans don't like white American's to call them.

Now I would be suspicious of the Russians because of my negative perception of them (rightly or wrongly) as having a high neo-nazi (racist) population (again maybe I'm stereotyping), however I'm fairly certain that the meaning of "Nig(g)az" in english is not the same as it is in Russian. It's basically an unfortunate contraction of the names just like when Serbia and Montenegro was S&M. I don't know but I'm not offended, I'm amused.

there is no Nadal this year BORINGGGGGGGGGGGG
I can't say I'm disappointed since I'm not a fan of his at all. This final is fine. It's really interesting. They're matching each other.
SportsRe: ~Wimbledon 2009~ by Tatase(f): 4:17pm On Jul 05, 2009
Federer has really come back from his "meh" 1st set. The game is quite tight, not at all predictable. I'm supporting him but I feel bad for Roddick, he has tried. He shouldn't worry next time he's not playing Federer I will support him!  tongue smiley

P.S. Am I the only one noticing how delicate both players' games can be (ok in spite of Roddick's iyan-eater's serve?) Like compare to the Williams' sisters yesterday. See the finesse. It's like watching old-school tennis. Those girls just slam every ball like gbosa!!!
RomanceRe: Would You Marry Someone Not The Same Religion As Yourself? by Tatase(f): 4:08pm On Jul 05, 2009
TheSeeker:
If the man is imposing his religion on the wife, refusal of which is leading to chaotic existence in the home then the relationship/marriage isn't worth it after all. If he loves her, working on the relationship is important than bitching on religion. What has religion got to do with marriage anyway? If your religion clearly states that you should not get married to a woman unless she converts why don't you easily get married to someone already in your religion instead of fomenting cold and unmannerly domestic war? Leaving behind your religion on the basis of marriage isn't love, it's simply loss of self esteem. If I was smoking from when I was born, I dare not not leave it because of any woman no matter how much I love her, if she can't deal with that she'd hit the cave!
Chill out, I think we're saying the same thing!!! It's not that I'm an extremist nor have I ever been, I think everyone has the right to worship God in the way they feel is best and will lead them to a good end. I think my religion is true but everyone has choice and everyone also thinks their religion is right. My faith doesn't make me superior to anyone else and I've been to many Eid celebrations, Shabbat dinners, Diwali parties etc  to support friends but its a little hollow because they are really feeling the occasion and to me it feels empty, and I can imagine that's how someone of a different faith is at Easter or Christmas etc. But the thing is those are just friends and so we can afford to hold certain parts of ourselves back from each other. I think a husband situation is a little different.

Maybe it's just the bad luck of my acquaintances, but in all the interfaith relationships I've observed (at least those in Naij; since it doesn't usually seem to matter so much abroad because everyone seems to lose their religion a little when they get out of Nigeria), unless one or both parties is not really that religious, someone always ends up converting or it causes tension in the relationship. I just think if faith is intrinsic in your life then it may be best to go with someone of your own faith.

I want Federer to win because that's always been my person but my heart can't help but support Roddick because he's the underdog! <hmmm> This match is giving me Premiership-esque palpitations!!!
TV/MoviesRe: What Series Are You Watching Now? by Tatase(f): 6:44pm On Jul 04, 2009
mohawkchic:
~A new series is about to premiere next week "K-Ville". . .anyone heard or watched it? Wanna know if its worth watching!

~Any review on it will be appreciated. . Ta.
K-Ville was cancelled pretty quickly as far as I remember, I don't think it even had a full season (partly because everything was cut because of the writers strike and also partly because no one really cared too much about it  when it was on). I only watched the 1st 2 episodes because I had just moved to New Orleans at the time and it's about law enforcement in N.O. and everyone was excited because they were shooting it here.

It's really nothing special, I mean it's not offensively bad, it's just there. There are many far superior detective shows out already and setting the show in New Orleans as shady and interesting a city as it is, cannot salvage what is basically mediocre.

Aren't they usually so? grin And it happens alot in the western setting especially if it deals with native indians.  Hmmm guess i'll try the regency ones and see.

Ever read Elizabeth Lowell?
Abi o. . . it's like we all know you're going to end up with the dude just cut the B.S. and stop acting stupid.

Oh and about Elizabeth Lowell, yes I have read quite a few her romantic thrillers. I don't remember them all but two that stick out in memory are: Always Time To Die and Whirlpool and the one I read most recently like last month was The Secret Sister. Lowell is ok but personally I prefer Sandra Brown and Catherine Coulter (esp. her FBI series) for romantic suspense.
