At home I'm reading: The Red Scarf by Kate Furnivall In my bag when I'm out, I'm still reading Comanche Heart by Catherine Anderson |
iice:She's okay. . . I've heard good things about her regency romances though I haven't read any myself and this is my first book of hers and its more a late 18th century Western. It's interesting enough but its one of those where you just want to slap some sense into the heroine because she's so annoying. |
Owu gal:I love the English classics (at least from the 18th century onwards), though the American ones not so much because they tend to be less romance and more anger and revolution. And I totally agree that Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights is overrated. I love all her sisters' (Charlotte and Anne Bronte) books (Jane Eyre, Villette, Shirley, The Professor, Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall), mostly because I thought that their characters were more likeable and their romances more acceptable. I found the book so depressing and uninteresting because frankly there was nobody to root for since everyone was equally detestable. Seriously because of that book I never want to go to Leeds or Yorkshire or wherever it was because the book made it soooo unappealing. iice:Betty Neels rocks!!! ![]() |
~Sissy~:I agree. Aphogee Reconstuctor is magic for hair breakage. It completely eliminates the hair coming off on the comb especially with relaxer and heat damage. You shouldn't use it more than once every 6 weeks so in between if I have problems with breakage I use Nexxus Emergencee which is a pricier but much lighter protein treatment and can be used a little more often. However for both Aphogee and Nexxus, you need a really good deep conditioner afterwards like Cholesterol or Hair Mayonnaise or those ORS Replenishing Pak or Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Mask . I like to add Honey and Olive or Coconut oil to these for deep conditioning and do a final rinse with diluted Apple Cider Vinegar. Shampoo-wise, I like the Body Shop Honey Shampoo because it doesn't dry out hair as much as regular shampoo or when the buget is type I think Creme of Nature Detangling Shampoo for Dry Brittle Hair is really good too. I wash my hair with shampoo probably about every 10 days when its not in braids but every 3-4 days I do a wash using only conditioner and I use Garnier Fructis Long & Strong Conditioner. The best hair gel that I've ever used which I think is the kindest to hair in terms of not flaking or breaking your hair off or freezing your hair in a solid block is Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Water-Based Shine Wax. I like it because its not sticky, you can apply it everyday and it combs through hair very easily and is also really good for braids. I use Profectiv Mega Growth Anti-Breakage Strengthener as a a hair moisturizer followed by a little coconut oil or olive oil. Relaxer-wise: In American hair salons I use Affirm Fibreguard at home/in naij I use Optimum Care Anti-Breakage Relaxer or if I can't find that I use the ORS Olive Oil Relaxer. |
@ topic I admit I find Charles Dickens incredibly boring even though I know its a travesty to say so. His stories are so interesting but the writing, so wordy and the descriptions, too much! |
tpia@:LOL. I think I know the one you're talking about. What's with the Betty Neels haters?? I love her!!! I collect her 1st editions!! Her books are sooooooooooo peaceful. Ok so there are no high highs or low lows, but they're really easy and brief and idyllic and innocent and make you think of a more naive era. Nothing like some Betty Neels to clear your mind after a rough day. She makes me happy!! @ topic: Swan by Naomi Campbell (soooooooooo stupid!!!) Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry (unfinishable) Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (so overrated!!) |
It could be several things. It could just be your personal preference. Or it could be that you're thinking of settling down in the near future (or something) and older guys are more likely to be ready to settle down than guys your age. Or it could be that you're finding some sort of security emotional or financial with older guys that you're not finding with guys your age who are still figuring out their own lives. Personally, I don't think maturity necessarily has to do with age and I think its always good to think properly before dating someone considerably older than you because as mature as you think you are, that person has lived 17 or 18 or however many more years than you and usually has that much more life experience and the differences eventually come out and may cause problems down the line. But good luck sha. |
Gabry:Which did you adopt? I say it's complicated because I've seen it happen and the children either end up one or the other (so one parents religion loses out) or ambivalent to both religions/thinking that faith is not really important. Faith is important to me and I don't want there to be a situation where my children are confused about what's right. |
I think respect is treating him the way you'd like to be treated i.e. not abusing him and listening to him and trying to understand his point of view and all that good stuff. Being a doormat is always doing what he wants irrespective of how you feel about it and not being able speak up for yourself to him. Because respect is a two way street and if you're the only one doing the respecting and you yourself are never being respected then you're a doormat. |
No I wouldn't. Because the kinds of problems from the original post always arise down the line and it always causes friction especially when there are children involved and the children always end up confused and one person always loses and has to give up their faith in the end. Too complex! |
I don't really see why it makes a difference. If you're both otherwise content with your relationship then I don't really see what has changed since it's not like you would have been having sex with her either way for religious reasons. You should be happy she's trusted you enough to tell you. |
@ topic NO!!! Just imagine! Even if YOU KNOW you're not goodlooking, it's so rude for him to say that. If he's attracted to you (whether for mind or looks), then why does he need to tell you you're not physically attractive to him, if not to break your self-esteem and make you feel like he's doing you a favour by dating him. I smell an emotional abuser from the get-go. |
At home I'm reading: A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary For Lovers by Xiaolu Guo (its a really interesting romantic comedy). In my bag when I'm out is: Comanche Heart by Catherine Anderson |
"Dont Trust Me"- 3OH!3 |
The Proposal (with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds)- It was predictable, but cute and funny. Easy Virtue (with Jessica Biel and Colin Firth)- It was funny and sort of dark and unusual but ultimately really good in the end. Transformers 2 (with Shia LaBoef and Megan Fox)- It really wasn't my thing (I was dragged to it) and the storyline was so so weak and Megan Fox was so annoying with her constant IndecentStar-esque pouting and bad acting. But I doubt anyone is really watching for the storyline. There was a lot of destruction and explosion. |
Moyola:By Second Chance, do you mean the JSCE novel where the girl gets pregnant at university and has twins? And someone is called Mina and one of the twins is called Miatta (sp?) or something? |
It was ok, but there are some things you need to fix: 1.) Your tenses. You're mixing present and past tense in an awkward way. Most writers use some form of past tense but you can use present tense if you like but you have to decide one way or the other because the mix of present and past you're doing is a little off and it's distracting. 2.) You have typos and grammatical errors like "am" instead of "I'm" and also things like "Where is mum and dad?" so you'll definitely need to read over and correct that. 3.) See if you can improve your word/phrase choices a little like instead of "she ran down the street with all her strength," describe what running with all her strength might be like: e.g. "she ran down the street, her shoes/ bare feet/ whatever slapping/slamming against the pavement" or "she raced down the steer" or something. I don't know. Just think of being a little more descriptive or using more standard phrases like "she screamed at the top of her lungs" is more standard than "at the top of her voice." 4.) This seemed more like a prologue than a 1st chapter but it wasn't bad. Just needs to be edited. And maybe it will be good to sit down and decide what you want your prologue/1st chapter to tell us. Like think about what you want the reader to know about the main character/victim/whoever by the end of the chapter. |
Someone Like Me- Atomic Kitten |
Personally, no. But I'm sure some girls do. |
Bleaching is obviously a bad idea. And to be honest it's only Nigerians and other Africans that I've heard using the word "toning" or "toner" to euphemize bleaching or skin bleaching creams. Toner as I know it, is like a moisturizing face cleanser thing that you apply with cotton wool (after washing your face) that is supposed to clean your face, get rid of excess oil and dirt and make the skin on your face appear smoother (i.e. less-visible pores, less prone to acne etc). I'm assuming this is the kind of toner the article you posted was referring to. |
tollu:I luv 3 doors down @ topic: Second Chance- Shinedown |
Low- Flo Rida |
@ topic: Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 BBC one with Colin Firth) The Thomas Crown Affair |
"My Life in Ruins" with Nia Vardalos (the chick from My Big Fat Greek Wedding). It was really cute. |
binhozie:Na wa o! |
First of all, intelligence is definitely not a criterion at least not in practice for being a world leader. Second, men are world leaders because society has always left them free to pursue outside-of-the-home work interests. As for gender and intelligence. I don't think men are necessarily more intelligent than women overall or vice-versa. It's really juvenile for people to be making all these one-gender-is-better-than-the-other generalizations. Some people are in certain ways more intelligent or ambitious or scheming than others but I don't think it has anything to do with gender. |
Is anyone watching?? There's a Nigerian guy in it: Ade. He was actually really really good tonight doing a contemporary piece (and I judge us harder because I want us to be the best. This guy is really good). It's really good this season so watch if you can and let's talk about it! |
I like Kris but I felt that Adam should have won. The song was soooo stupid though. Poor Adam looked like he was dying a little inside as he sang that song. Frankly neither of them sang it well. It was good to see everyone post-Idol on Larry King Friday and Monday. I sincerely think the everyone-getting-along thing is as fake as can be but it was still nice to get to know everyone a little better. Danny Gokey came off as much of an ass as ever. He's soooooooooooooo annoying, I know his type. |
The 2nd pair is doable because there's actually a flat sole so it would be like wearing a wedge. The 1st pair and the one VB is wearing look stupid and extremely uncomfortable. Heaven forbid you forget and attempt to rest on your heels !! |
