lnk:Answering such questions has to be by real life experience that the individual had in missing a deadline while working. However, missed deadlines can be as a result of a number of factors. You can coin your answers around some suggestions which I have tried to enumerate some below. 1. The scope of the work was underestimated, hence, the time of completion of the work was not properly estimated. 2. Deadline can be missed if someone elses work feeds into yours and the person did not complete his part on time. 3. Can be due to additional responsibilities that were given to you which were not considered when you took on the first assignment to deliver. 4. Inadequate information required to complete the assignment, which you had to source for, as a result time was lost on the job. 5. Lack of adequate tools to perform the work, resulting in improvising or requesting for the tools before continuing the job. 6. Not performing work as efficiently as required (you can't say this in an interview I suppose). Repercussions that you can mention in an interview? Difficult to say. But here is what missing deadlines usually result in: 1. Financial loss on the part of the company. 2. Re-allocation of the work assignment to someone else, hence negative record on your part. 3. A company can loose a client or a job as a result of you missing deadline for a proposal (for instance). |
samix:London Met Uni would not release any data for ranking so it is not ranked. See link below http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/good_university_guide/article671847.ece http://www.timesonline.co.uk/displayPopup/0,,102571,00.html |
@Anusule. I am glad you finally humbled yourself after all the barrages from members. Its a good sign for a chap like you. Anyway, "technically" you are highly skilled (abi no be so?). Afterall, the son of a British citizen is also British, so the son of a HSMP holder is also highly skilled .Continue to post your pictures man, or how else will @mrpataki, @funkybaby and @simply_me keep on exchanging messages with you? ![]() |
simply_me:Yeah. You are right, as there is some job security with permanent. |
simply_me:I think Contracting is the way for me to go! It pays about twice more than permanent. @Anusule, Keep posting so that we will read more of such posts of encouragement from fellow Nairaland users. |
st1:It happens to almost everyone working in Nigeria. It is the economic situation in the country and also family circumstances. You should try to manage the situation and learn to say no in some cases, else you will be "giving out all your seeds" and not having anyone to plant and yield fruits (if you know what I mean). Sounds like you have a good government job (NNPC maybe ). |
Temin:Surprised you can fund your wife in a UK school for 4 years earning N1.6M. Do you have another source of income? Well, Undergraduates here spend three years in school and the 4th year would normally be the masters programme year, except of course her programme is Phd. I consider N1.6M to be the average pay for a fresh graduate working in any of the good companies in Naija. I think you will get a job in your area of specialisation if you've got the right to stay here, so the student visa idea for your wife may not be bad afterall. Have friends in Canada and the stories are mixed. Some still get very good jobs and getting it may come with challenges and things like sometimes having to accept a lower job level and later rising to the normal level or even a higher job level. Some also have to go to school again to get more qualifications or a canadian education. Those on ground there should give the actual situation report. |
simply_me:Is it wrong to give feedback to members on the outcome of a thread that one started? Why the "so" ? |
@ Poster, I don't see the correlation between the topic and the link you have posted. I am aware that the Uk High Commissioner to Nigeria said that 20,000 out of 28,000 Nigerians were denied students visa to the UK: http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=85458 . swiftycool:You can be as cautious as you like and also very genuine and still get refused a UK visa for some reasons that no one can understand. This does happen daily in Nigeria. Cases of fraud are very high, so results in many genuine people getting rejected for visas. This has made me to believe that when one applies for a visa, there is the tendecy to be deemed guilty of fraud unless you can prove otherwise and therefore be given a visa. I bet you know that every visa applicant to the US is considered an intending immigrant by the embassy, thus, you have to prove otherwise to be given a visa. |
This so called badmouth should be clearly defined. If it is talking negatively about your country to foreigners, then I have a problem with that. A large number of Nigerians overseas would surely come up to the defence of their country in front of foreign colleagues, mates or friends. What most people tend to forget is that many Nigerians overseas have lived a greater part of their lives in Nigeria and know exactly what is happening there. If it is criticising the government about the state of affairs, then as Nigerians we all have the right to do so irrespective of where we live. Why are those overseas singled out for cristising the government when in phone call conversations with people resident in Nigeria, most of what is said from the Nigerian end are negatives about the country? All those saying "time will come" when Nigeria will be good, do you think that we do not know that? the question is when will this time come? Check out a Nigerian newspaper from early nineties and compare with one of 2007 and you will see that the problems plaguing the nation are still largely the same. Accepted that there is currently progress, but it is not good enough. Here in the UK, the Prime Minister and his cabinet members are frequently openly criticised in parliament meetings by the opposition (even for things we Nigerians would consider very simple), but you never find that happening in Nigeria. Well, I can hear someone saying our democracy is not that matured, but do we have to go through the several hundred years they went through to get their democracy matured? It is high time we started saying the truth and stopped living in the past and hoping that things will change. Nigerians living in developed countries want the same kind of standard of living in these countries to be the norm in their country also! So don't expect me to wake up everyday and say my country is the greatest country on planet earth! We are blessed with all kinds of resources, YES, but the management of these resources is in question here. |
Auto anyday! Drove a manual in Lagos and my knees really ached especially in traffic. I changed car to auto and had the best time of my life driving in Lagos. Driving away from junctions and traffic lights were pretty fast and smooth. Traffic jams were no longer so much of an issue to me using the auto. |
@westsidema, I reckon that the term mixed breed is more commonly associated with dogs. I think a more appropriate term would be mixed race, mixed parentage or dual/multi heritage. See this interesting link about a mixed race twin: http://www.snopes.com/photos/people/mixedtwins.asp |
onatisi:Are there not enough tangible things about Britain already written in Nairaland for you to read? Because he posted pictures of where he lives then it has become an issue. I am certain that prospective students to University of Leeds will not mind seeing those pictures. |
globalaid:My sister was on a 6-month assignment in Mongolia and she did meet a few Nigerians/blacks over there. |
dejia:Rio is one hour or less by flight from Sao Paulo. Well, you may be right about the racism being more in SA, but the difference is that Blacks are currently being given a lot of control in SA, whereas in Brazil the blacks are still very much not featuring in the corporate world. I think the trend is for the embassy to get permission from their authorities in Brazil before giving visas. Not sure if it is a requirement just for Nigerians because they really like to protect their country and they love it too. Like you said, some boyz may have certainly done done their usual job. Be careful about the flight and return trip to SA, it is a gateway out of South America and security checks are very high especially if you are from a not too liked country. |
What are you guys still fighting about at this age? Are there not other things like work or business to occupy your minds rather than fighting. I expect siblings to fight but only at kiddies age or teenage years and not as adults. Anyway, like @Busi body said, life is just too short to be engaged in brawls and malice. I think you guys should learn to appreciate one another and treat each other with respect, recognise your shortcomings and avoid conflicts. |
dejia:If you want to have fun, then it would be better to visit Rio de Janeiro and not Sao Paulo. That is where the fun is. Lots of tourist attractions in Rio that you can visit. SAA flies from Jo'burg to Sao Paulo and connects to Rio. As for racism, it very much exists in the country and is very real, but in a subtle way! The darker the colour of your skin, the poorer you are expected to be ![]() |
Millionair:Qatar airways is not a Nigerian airline. It is an airline that partly belongs to the Government of Qatar in the middle east. It is no doubt one of the best airlines in the world. Just unfortunate that there was a flight delay in Nigeria resulting in a missed connecting flight in Doha,Qatar and the traveller was not allowed into Doha. It is not unexpected as it is immigrations that control entry into countries and not the airline. The solution is that when we improve our country, we will no longer need transit or entry visas into several countries. in December 2005, South African authorities introduced transit visas for nationals of Nigeria and some other countries passing through SA to another country and we did not need this prior to that time. I thought Nigerians should have gone from no transit visa required to also no entry visa required, instead transit visas were intrduced in SA. I think they eventually suspended transit visa requirements going by these links and they said the affected countries did not complain about the transit visa introduction. http://www.queensu.ca/samp/migrationnews/article.php?Mig_News_ID=4130&Mig_News_Issue=23&Mig_News_Cat=8 http://www.queensu.ca/samp/migrationnews/article.php?Mig_News_ID=2187&Mig_News_Issue=12&Mig_News_Cat=8 |
Thanks for the site. From the little I have gone through, I think it is very good. Hope to go through all. |
Dis Guy:It is BA that runs out of food and not Qatar Airways. |
It reminds me of the one I saw on NTA some years back where some people were making wine (A.K.A. grape juice) in a shop in one of the Army barracks mammy market in Lagos. They had a plastic tank (like the GP one) where they were mixing the ingredients and using the tap to fill the bottles with "wine" before packaging them in cartons! The things people do to make money ![]() |
folanusi:I had a similar experience last year march on a British Airways Lagos to london flight. The host gave me vegetarian dish when I had requested for chicken and when I complained about it, he told me they had run out of chicken. He behaved very annoyingly that day and incurred the wrath of a lot of people on the flight. Others and I did write to BA about his behaviour and actions and all I got was a mail telling me they were sorry and would look into the issue. How come they can't do simple analysis to know that they ought to provide more non-vegetarian food on their lagos flights since a large number of Nigerians seem to be non-vegetarian? |
@Poster, Where did you get your test results and employment figures statistics from? I think you just thought of a way to promote your school and decided to post this. If FUTO guys dominate in engineering and are everywhere like you said, then where are the graduates of all the other universities engineering faculties working or doing PG? Let me even ask you, how many engineering graduates does FUTO produce each year ![]() I know some FUTO graduates and they are no doubt good in engineering, but do not blow trumpets here. There are loads of other universities engineering graduates in Oil & Gas and Telecoms companies. ziziblue:You should realise that there are few universities that offer the petroleum engineering course and FUTO is one of them, so why would its students not feature in PG in UK schools? And whereas, most of the non petroleum engineering graduates from the school would also want to work in Oil & Gas hence may decide to do courses in petroleum. |
When I saw the topic, i thought that you meant with modern technology, one does not need to spend six years studying Architecture (because of design softwares). Only to see that you were refering to the pay earned. What of the peanuts earned by several Doctors, Pharmacists and Lawyers in Nigeria? It is a pity about it but that is what people face. Take heart, you will earn a lot after some time ![]() |
VOR:This could happen to you on any other airline and you will not be allowed into the country if you require a visa. Try missing you KLM flight in Amsterdam to any other country and see if the Immigrations there will allow you into Amsterdam. Same for most countries. Its just that I had noticed some time back that there is a short time interval between when the Lagos flight arrives Doha in Qatar and when the next flight to London leaves. So any delay in Lagos could cost you a long wait in Doha. VOR:Really, you should not base your flight plans on this single case. Have you heard what people go through with other airlines and at airports? Your choice of airline will be very limited if people told you their experiences. Transit visa is a good option but not sure how easy the process will be to get it. If the airline will get it for you, then that will be fine. |
Many places. Paris, the Carribeans, South of France (including Monaco), Capetown, Tokyo, |
VOR:True, but at the end the ECO said that the landing stamps could not be relied on to prove travel history. Inconsistencies could be with the visas, entry/exit stamps, or passport, all of which I can only guess. They will likely not tell her what the anomalies/inconsistencies are, so it is best she just proves to them that she actually travelled according to the dates in her passport. salsera:The documents are okay to apply. But I believe in general, it is better to give all relevant documents that can support your application rather than giving less documents. Anything that can prove your travel history will be good. Not really sure you should write a letter regarding the last refusals but you could write a letter detailing conscisely, your travel history and residences. |
VOR:I also believe it will be too late to appeal especially after such a long time. Re-applying will be best. With regards to the issues with the entry stamps, I suggest she puts in supporting documents such as airline ticket/boarding passes if she still has them or get the airline(s) to give her a letter confirming that she flew with them on the said dates into Nigeria. May be a tough one if it has been a long time, but that is an option. |
spikedcylinder:You should have realised that Koko777 was trying to quote jaja77 and didnt get it the right way. Its obvious they are different people. |
Siena:I know that too. Suprised no igbo person has written about @Darfur's post ![]() |
