One thing you don’t understand. – when Satan gets behind you, it will be tragically ruinous. He will push you from behind and you cannot control the fall. It is better Satan remain in front of you, you will be positioned to know when he will attack or push you. So, leave Winners chapel now, they have failed to impress God. tongue
@Ebos, I have not been disappointed by God since I started worshiping in the Church. I have been highly favoured, even beyond my expectations. The bottomline is that I have located where God wants me to worship and I have never been happier and have no reason not to worship in Winners Chapel.

9ja4eva: How is the church expanding?Shey Ojeme na una snr pastor?
@9ja4eva, The church is expanding. I would estimate that over 2000 people attend the three services (7-9am, 9-11am and 11am to 1pm). The third service is usually the one with the most number of people as the time seems to be convenient.

Pastor Ojeme is not the resident senior Pastor here anymore, but he visits sometimes.
TravelRe: I Have Been Given 250k To Travel Should I Invest It Here Or Travel Out To Uk by Tats(m): 4:43pm On Sep 11, 2007
Vicjustice:
Hey! 250K!? That's a great deal of money, you can travel the world over with it and still have more than enough change for business. I envy you, man!
Its not £250K he is talking about. He is refering to N250K. That is just about enough for 2 return tickets to the UK.

@Poster, you have not told us any other information about your circumstances in Nigeria as regards work experience and qualifications. Also, the kind of residence rights you have in the UK or Ireland. All those are necessary to determine what you can do in the UK. However, with the money you have, you can invest it in Nigeria and make some decent profit.

@English1.

Your post is one of the best advisory posts I have seen. Happened to stumble on the thread.

If you don't have the work papers. Do not come here to work.

However, If you do have work papers and experience, there are good jobs you can do. You may have to start out at a lower level, but you could rise in good time if you prove yourself to be a good employee and not be like some of those employees mentioned by @English1.

kindly advise, if it is okay for me to submit my application 2 weeks before expiration of visa for hsmp extension

i need to include one more payslip in my application and i can only get this two weeks before my visa expires, do you think this is enough time to apply for hsmp flr or should i go ahead and submit using a letter from my employer as alternative for the last payslip

looking forward to your counsel
If you are already in the UK on HSMP and want to extend it, I would advise you to also post your question on the HSMP part of this forum http://www.immigrationboards.com/index.php?sid=1377300b73fe6f2a13c22965079e8914 . You may get additional information. I don't know much about the HSMP rules.

TravelRe: Uk Entry And Renewal Procedure by Tats(m): 12:16am On Sep 10, 2007
See my comments below in italics.

*What would happen if i do not go on the date specified in the application form or what is required of me in this kind of situation because i intend to reschedule the travelling to November?

There is no problem with it if you do not go on your specified date. But like Vicjustice mentioned, you should not visit too close to the expiration date of the visa

*What are the documents needed to be presented at the port of entry?

You need your passport, return ticket and a landing card you will fill in the aircraft before you touch down in the UK. Those are compulsory. Make sure your return ticket matches with the period you will be staying in the UK.

*I made an hotel reservation for the application but now intend to cancel it because a friend has agreed to accomodate me for that 2 weeks. Do you think that is possible?

If you will be staying with a friend, make sure you have the exact address details of your friend with you in the aircraft as you will fill the address on the landing card while in the aircraft. You should also be ready to answer basic questions regarding the status of your friend in the UK and what he is doing when the Immigration Officer asks you at the point of entry. Otherwise, rebook the hotel and have the details with you.

*Finally, i would really want to know those documents required for a visa renewal after expiration. Am i to present those same documents i used for my first application?

To renew, just present your documents like you did before, but some of the documents that are variable such as payslips and bank statements should be the most recent ones. Chances are that they will not be used by the high commission since you have travelled before.

Siena:
Hmm, still a bit confused, but point taken. undecided

So, when folk pass their driving test, how do they obtain their driving licence? Have you just passed your test? huh
Siena, the truth is that it is possible for folks to get a full driving licence without even holding a car steering for one minute or even knowing what one road traffic sign means. Not refering to a provisional driving licence (Learner's permit). Some folks even get the licence primarily to use for identification purposes in Banks and other places.

The process is unlike what obtains here in the UK where you get a provisional licence first, take driving lessons/sit for the theory and hazard perception tests and finally do a practical test before you qualify to get a full driving licence.
CelebritiesRe: Leona Helmsley Left $12 Million For Her Dog. by Tats(m): 2:40am On Sep 07, 2007
It seems there is more trouble for the dog called trouble.

1. Leona's brother is not interested in keeping the dog.
2. The dog cannot be buried close to the owner in a cemetary for humans when it dies.
3. Finally, now that the dog has money, the former housekeeper is planning to sue for part of the dog's inheritance for biting her in 2004.

chiogo:
well, i get your point but then if you don't understand the point a person is making at all, that only shows the person is incoherent and illiterate, which has nothing to do with pidgin english because like i said it's a way of being informal. There are lots of educated people who speak pidgin english even in the USA, why?? because here in America, you see haitians, spanish, Jamaican folks interacting in their languages, Knowing as diverse a nation Nigeria is, in the sense that each ethnic group speaks its own language unlike most countries, Pidgin is another way of communication, which is a bit clear to me. Trust me on the fact that if you write down pidgin english for a white person, am sure they might have a clue as to what you're saying because it is only broken-down english. I don't understand why you're so bothered about europeans understanding what you speak, do we understand what they speak always too?? This mental slavery has got to stop. Jamaica and Barbados and some other countries were also colonized by the europeans(UK precisely) but they still have their own accents which is definitely not the Queen's english accent. Even here in America, black people speak lots of incorrect grammar but to them, it's like a culture. they use words like "brung" which is no where in the dictionary rather than "brought" and so many other imported words. Even some black americans do not understand what other black americans speak due to d different accents in different states. The way a black person from boston will talk would be different from the way a black person from Atlanta would. so, the errors you're talking about only means the person who typed it is  illiterate. That's just my point. tongue
For me, it is a source of concern that we speak english clearly and correctly where necessary when we are overseas or anywhere. It must not exactly be with a foreign accent. Unclear and incorrect english is one of the various reasons why some of us don't get very good white collar jobs abroad when we do job interviews either through phone or in person. It has nothing to do with mental slavery or suppressing the speaking of your native language or pidgin.

Would you interview someone for a high profile job in the US who says "brung" rather than "brought" and hire the person? Definitely not! Even here in the UK, some native british people from certain parts of the country who do not speak clear, correct and understandable english find it difficult to get some types of job. Some of them say "me house" rather than "my house". They do receive some sort of comments based on their way of speaking in the professional circles here too.

PoliticsRe: Know The Documents Police Should Ask For At Checkpoints! by Tats(m): 12:06am On Sep 04, 2007
I think people should begin to follow the law regarding things in Nigeria.

However, In actual fact, before you begin to argue with the police concerning documents (especially when you are alone on the motorway), make sure you have called someone to inform them of your whereabout, before you get missing and they don't find you or your body again. You may even be framed and charged so be warned and be careful!

TravelRe: Nigerians English Abroad by Tats(m): 1:56pm On Sep 03, 2007
Vicjustice:
When you ask Europeans (who aren't from English speaking countries) whether they speak English, they usually answer saying "little" even if they speak well enough.
When you meet Nigerians in/on the streets of Europe, and you ask them if they speaks English (because you don't know if they're Nigerians), they'd answer "YES" or "of course" if they're in good moods, and if in bad moods, they'd get offended saying "what sort of question is that?".
But in some real cases, the people who say they speak a "little" actually speak the little in good commands, and it's easier for the English people to understand them than the Nigerians who claim English is their in-built talents.
Believe me, some of our English usages are really embarrassing. I know some guys who can't converse on phone with people who are not Nigerians, the accents are terrible and the English commands or usage are awful: it would be easier if the non Nigerians can read their lips, but that doesn't happen on phone.
There was this Edo girl who was repatriated at Dublin airport, she had a tourist/visiting visa, when asked by the immigration officer at the point of entry her purpose of visiting, she ignorantly answered "terrorist", and this led to further questions and interrogations. They knew that she was innocent and ignorant, but the immigration officers found enough reason to send her back to Nigeria on the ground that they were "not satisfied that she merited her visa"
Even here in Nairaland, sometimes, it is difficult to read and understand some articles in this forum, Though, wrong spellings could be pardon (none is above mistakes), and it's also understandable when people misuse words (for example they misuse BEING for BEEN) and also, many people try to use "short cuts" words like DATZ Y, 4RM, HOLZ, and WUD etc, as if they're sending sms from mobile phones where spaces are limited: this makes other useres sometimes read over and over and over again just to get the point that a poster is trying to make. Sometimes, i really try hard to get the points, and still i don't get the full meaning.
I blame the pidgin English for our poor English, this sort of English has deeply influenced our usage of the standard English, even our learned people sometimes find themselves in difficulties trying to express some points which they can easily expressed in pidgin English.
[i]How many of you now hate me?[/i] wink
Me  grin grin.

@Vicjustice, good one there. I would advise that if you are writing such a post, you need to thoroughly read through it to ensure that you do not make any mistakes, or else, end. Corrections are required in some of your texts.

Seriously, I think many people need to improve their command of English particularly in writing. Some get so used to writing in abbreviated or other kinds of words that I believe they would write same way in a school or exam essay without realising it, and resulting in poor grades. There is nothing wrong in abbreviating, but it should make sense. I know of a professional internet forum that you dont just write english anyhow, else you will feel miserable by the time they have responded to your post.

Apart from 'being vs been', do you notice the 'there vs their' error that keeps coming up everyday in posts. Sometimes, it takes ages to read and understand some posts. Some of the 'difficult to read' posts can be solved by simply writing in plain english. Needless to say that I don't want to go into too much details here.

Not against pigdin, as I speak it too and it has never had an impact on my level of spoken or written English. But I have clear boundaries between pidgin and English.

PoliticsRe: Where Philip Emeagwali Got It Wrong "Nigeria Owes Me" by Tats(m): 11:54pm On Sep 02, 2007
Afam:
The funny thing is that more and more people are more inclined to believe whatever he says or claims rather than taking time to substantiate such claims.

How someone will be contracted to investigate Nigeria's dwindling oil reserves beats my imagination.

We have reservoir engineers to do such calculations and I thought the foreign venture partners were the operators and not NNpc that just sit down to share or loot money.

Can anyone point to a school where Philips got his PhD from or do people now award themselves PhDs?

http://chippla..com/2005/12/is-philip-emeagwali-fake.html seems to have some interesting issues with claims made by this man.
I was wondering too. I know that reservoir engineers in the various joint venture companies calculate the volume of oil in their oil fields/reservoirs and these figures from the various oil companies are aggregated to give the country's oil reserves. With the volume of oil reserves and the rate of oil recovery from the reservoirs, the lifespan of the reserves can be estimated. So what services exactly did he render to the country in this area? Did he go round to all the oil companies and sit down with the engineers/geologists to vet their calculations/assumptions before coming up with the total amount of oil reserves that Nigeria has? I really need to know!

Lets not play the tribal or any other cards here. I do not see the comments of posters as being judgemental. We are all presumed to be educated in this forum and need to rely on our individual professionalism and/or judgement to come up with near conclusions or conclusions on issues we encounter. Otherwise, what do we have the brains for?
