Akolawole:Ever heard of environmental immigrant . |
With 8 years of experience and an MBA, you will get a very good paying job in Naija. If you have not visited recently, then spend some weeks in naija so that you have first hand current knowledge of the environment that you intend to live. |
Really cant say its a shame too. I can't speak my native language very well as I usually have to construct the words first before speaking it out, and I dont know so many words too. A combo of English and my langage was used at home, but english was used more often amongst my siblings. My parents tried to speak our language as often as they could to us, but it didn't stick and boarding house didnt make learning it any better. |
is it for real that you were doing 90mph on a 35 and they just gave you a warning? |
Toyota of course. |
olu-hak:@Olu-hak, There are jobs in Nigeria. If he is interested in working in Naija and has experience, he will get a good job with good pay. I hope he can cope with life there though. ![]() |
Really glad to see these pictures. Seeing some of the shots, its almost unbelievable that it is in Africa, but i believe they are real. Do you see some of the shots some foreign media show when running a story on Africa? They don't do us justice. An example are the recent shots of Accra Ghana that showed the place looking like a slum except for the airport. kenyanguy:@kenyanguy, its nice to know about Ade Adeyemi. Thanks for letting us know and seeing your nice city. ![]() |
Feel like eating Suya ![]() Found carribean bread in sainsburys and its the closest bread to naija bread. Very nice bread. |
koko777: debosky:Both of you are referring to fresh graduate salaries and not MBA salaries. The poster needs to know what salaries he can earn with his MBA degree. The earlier posters gave good salary ranges and I think they are okay. Just that it will depend on his post MBA experience too. |
First job offer was in technology systems. |
balarabe01:Pls go and post this in the business thread and not here. |
@Eiregirl, You really scare me You said you don't think you've met a Nigerian yet that hasn't done or isn't into fraud of one sort or another ![]() Let me ask you, who are your friends? How come you've only been meeting fraudulent Nigerians? You've never met me and I am Nigerian, so don't conclude ![]() |
@Poster, Na wah for you o! Wetin concern u with babes wearing trousers. And u say u be Wafi man. |
mekoyo:Good one guy! Don't do it over the phone. |
@Shobaby, Congrats on your success. Wish you a good time in the UK. Welcome in advance. |
I do not think that the individual still qualifies for the Visa. Take a look at this Q&A I found on the internet. Note that it is not a Government Body website. http://www.americanvisaprogramme.com/QandA.php 22. HOW LONG DO APPLICANTS WHO ARE SELECTED REMAIN ENTITLED TO APPLY FOR VISAS IN THE DV CATEGORY? Persons selected in the DV-2008 draw (which is scheduled to take place no later than March 2007) are entitled to apply for visa issuance only during fiscal year 2008, i.e., from October 2007 through September 2008. Applicants must obtain the Diversity Visa or adjust status by the end of the fiscal year (September 30, 2008). There is no carry-over of DV benefits into the next year for persons who are selected but who do not obtain visas during FY-2008. Also, spouses and children who derive status from a DV-2008 registration can only obtain visas in the DV category between October 2007 and September 2008. |
@Poster Maybe u should read this small piece of mine in the thread link below: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-21459.96.html#msg1271749 You need to provide more details of your current situation, such as your specific engineering specialisation/course, number of years of experience you've got, other skills you've got, your current country location, plans for Post graduate, e.t.c. Foreign language skills are generally a plus (particularly in this era of EU and globalisation) and it could get you some opportunities in Oil and Gas, Counsulting, Investment banking, e.t.c. When you give more details of your experience, then you can know what you could earn, otherwise, fresh out of school and getting a relatively good job can earn you somewhere between £22,000 and £33,000 Per annum depending on type of job. Not saying that it can't be less or more depending on the profession so I dont want UK guys/babes hitting me hard on this! |
@Elgy, U don spoil o That image when you put for ya post, e funny sha. At least u dey entertain us. |
@Elgaxton, Supposed mentality of the UK brethren you mean. Otherwise, na im be say u don conclude beyond all reasonable doubt say we stingy ![]() Anyway, I don't want the thread to end and so the controversial statements keep it going ![]() @Darfur, I love reading your posts as they are frank, keep it up .finally, I know for a fact that Nigerians here send money back home to people and make calls as we all meet in the various money agencies and call card shops. So, Elgaxton, its a pity your guys don't call u and so have made u express this opinion ![]() |
I seem to be reading posts from members wanting to know how they will get a job in the UK, so I am just making some points to note here in addition to what other posters have advised. Fresh out of a Nigerian Uni and trying to get a job in the UK is really difficult (especially without a British passport - not even a guarantee!). Get some very good experience in Naija and you just might get a good job in the UK if u have a right to work/or a company is willing to sponsor a work permit if you've got specialised skills and it is in shortage here. Otherwise, do your postgraduate in the UK and look for a job. Good luck on that. For those trying to get a job in the UK while resident in Nigeria, I must tell you that it is a very difficult thing. Companies and recruitment agencies will not deal with you as you are not in the UK. So, options are that u come on holiday and test the market yourself, take a bold step and quit your naija job and move to the UK or remain in your job in naija. |
Its definitely my most favourite thread ![]() |
casperc100:Don't say that people are not sincere with u. What we do here is to give our best advice based on experience. I earlier told you that your appeal can only be heard after 8th may and it is not compulsory that it must be heard within a specific time after the 8th. The date given to u was only an estimate and the actual date depends on the volume of paperwork they have. I know of an appeal that lasted 15 months to be heard and several months for the visa to be issued by the HC so dont think that 8 months is too long. The duration for appeals has just gotten better in recent periods. I guess u are anxious becos of time constraints. Why dont u call them? |
@nynlicious. Alright. UK Guys, treat our babes well and vice versa. Also, @Elgaxton said you should all maintain phone contacts with your people in Naija and he is dead serious! ![]() |
nynlicious:@ poster did not exonerate UK babes in his post so u are very much included in this whole matter. Lol. Anyway, wetin my guy(s) do u when u dey vex like this? Genuine ones still dey sha, search well well. No let dem go marry oyibo as u dey talk like this. |
PurestBoy:So u don request from your people to come UK? No make me continue to dey laugh for this thread as na here I dey spend all my Nairaland time Anyway, take am easy with UK peeps. U know say na so so tax and bill be second language here. Give me that your friend when dey flash u details and I go buy calling card for am to call you The land line when him go use the card with suppose get free call. |
VOR:Yes it never did his friend any harm cause he had a solid case overall. Its always better to quote what the ECO said if racism is implied and let the judge make the conclusion from it rather than allege it. |
funkybaby:I quite agree with you. Except one has compelling proof of racism, never dare go that angle. |
Caradona:I almost collapsed with laughter after reading your piece on a dog working! It was damn too funny. Nice one. |
@ Poster. I can understand when you say your calls are not returned by UK folks. When I was working in Naija, I used to make all the phone calls to my friends in the UK and hardly ever received a phone call from them. I did not mind this as I was very comfortable and wanted to maintain the relationships since they were my childhood friends. I bet its left for u to maintain the relationship if you think it is important. They will surely call you when they are about to land naija or are in naija and you can renew the relationship. Being in the UK now and looking at my phone contacts, in what priority should I call people in naija? With countless number of friends, family members, relatives, ex-schoolmates, ex-colleagues, ex-neighbours, ex-service providers, where is the time and resources to call everyone? When u don't call, its like we no dey hear from you, abi u don abandon us. Even call cards to Naija actually give you about half the stated minutes when u start calling, abi my UK people, una fit tell me which card better pass when I go dey buy? People are strictly on budget here, plan and account for every expense. Its a lot easier to plan becos things are pretty much stable and predictable. Imagine paying for things such as TV licence when u buy a TV. Lots of bills and if u default, u get a bad credit rating or go to jail. For those comparing the UK with US, we all have our preferences in live. What is important to you may not be to another person. I never initially liked the UK in the past but have come to very much love the place. I have visited the US several times and must say that it is very different in structure and lifestyle to the UK. I should say that it is beautiful though. Prices are higher in the UK than US and like other posters said, what is $10 in the US is £10 in the Uk, yet the pound is almost twice the dollar! Do I expect Nigerians in the US to do better than those in the UK? I cant say. UK is an Island and job opportunities are not vastly created like in the US. Food for thought: Those of you calmouring for people to return, una go get competition for the already limited jobs if people come back. u know how many them be? Where una wan accomodate them and their families? |
Igbo or not, all I care about is that they are Nigerians and wish that they achieve excellent results and make us proud! |
casperc100:There is no maximum time for a paper hearing appeal. They will definitely sit on your case anytime from the date they told you and communicate the decision to you. |
